Chapter Two
Meredith was tired. She was on hour 26 of 48 and she wasn't sure how it was legal for hospitals to allow people to work for this long. She made her way down to the basement where she had been hanging out with her fellow interns earlier. She hopped up onto a gurney and laid down intending to rest her eyes for a few minutes. This plan was interrupted when she heard footsteps coming toward her. She tried to ignore them hoping whoever it was would just go away but instead, she felt the mattress dip with someone sitting on the edge. She opened her eyes to see Izzie staring at her. She didn't mind Izzie and she was glad she was also assigned as one of Bailey's interns. She was a little too chirpy but at least she was nice.
"What?" Meredith grumbled at her.
"Christina is pissed at you." Izzie replied.
Meredith panicked slightly and sat up. "What did she tell you?"
Izzie looked at her with narrowed eyes. "Just that you had stolen a surgery from right under her nose. Why? Did you do something else?"
"What no. And I didn't steal it. We both had a 50/50 chance of getting the surgery. She knew that when we started working on it." Meredith said, flopping back down.
"Yeah well, Christina doesn't seem like the kind of person who misses out on things often. She started going on about how you were receiving favoritism. Which by the way I totally don't think is true. I'm sure you worked just as hard to get here as everyone else." Izzie rambled.
Meredith's heart started racing slightly. Surely if Izzie had known about Derek, that's what she would have led with. "Did she mean favoritism because of my mother?"
Izzie scrunched up her face in confusion. "Obviously. Why else would you be getting it?"
Meredith just shrugged and avoided her eyes. She changed the subject and said "Want to go get something to eat? I'm starving, I haven't eaten this whole shift."
Izzie jumped off the gurney and shook her head. "Nah I already ate. I just came to find you to let you know Christina is on the warpath."
Meredith smiled at her. "Thanks. I'll go find her and deal with it."
Izzie looked relieved. "Oh thank god. I was hoping you would say that. I really don't like conflict and dealing with you two arguing for the next year wasn't high on my to-do list."
Meredith just laughed as she also hopped off the gurney and they started walking back towards the main area of the hospital. She wasn't expecting to make any friends during her residency. Her mother definitely would have disapproved. But at that moment she didn't care what her mother thought. Maybe having friends would help her get through this year. Besides, she certainly didn't think Izzie was going to take no for an answer.

Meredith was wandering the halls looking for Christina when for the second time that shift got pulled into a supply closet against her will. She wasn't surprised when she saw who it was.
"Dr. Shepherd! You really need to stop doing this!" Meredith exclaimed, pulling her arm back.
"Dr. Shepherd huh? I thought we were past the formalities Dr. Grey." Derek replied with his trademark smirk on his face.
Meredith glared at him. "I told you already. This can't happen. We had a one-night stand Derek. It's not like we're deep into this and it's too late to go back. I don't know anything about you."
"You know I'm a doctor and you know I'm good in bed. Not much else to tell really. I moved to Seattle a few years ago with my ex-wife, before that I lived in New York…" Derek stopped when he saw her eyes widen at the mention of his ex-wife. "Okay, bad start. Bringing up the fact that I'm divorced probably isn't the best way to convince you to date me. But at least I'm not still married. That's gotta count for something right?" Derek finished as he flashed her a grin.
Meredith just raised her eyebrows at him. Derek stepped closer realizing the best way to convince her probably wasn't with his words. He reached up to tuck a piece of hair behind her ear. He then dropped both hands around her waist and pulled her against him. She gave a little squeal but still wrapped her arms around his neck. She knew she shouldn't be engaging but he knew exactly what he did to her and God he was hard to say no to. Derek kissed her gently on her lips and when she tried to deepen the kiss he just pulled away and chuckled.
"Behave Meredith." He said his tone firm.
His words caused an immediate reaction between her thighs. She hated being told what to do but damn did that change in the bedroom. Derek drew close to her again and began placing soft kisses down her neck. He stopped when he reached her collarbone and began sucking softly. She moaned and wrapped her hands in his hair. When he knew he had sucked long enough to leave a mark he pulled back, satisfied with his work.
"Go to dinner with me." He whispered before flicking her earlobe with his tongue.
"I… I can't." She whispered which took every single piece of willpower she had left.
All of a sudden, he was gone. She groaned in protest, her body begging for more of his touch. She reached out for him again but he side-stepped her with another smirk on his face.
"No dinner, no sex." He said simply as he pulled the door open and left.
"That wasn't the case last night." Meredith muttered under her breath to herself. She took a deep breath and tried to regain her composure but after both encounters, she was very frustrated. Her brain was clouded with want and she knew she needed some kind of release very soon.

Meredith knew that Christina was avoiding her. She had looked everywhere for her with no luck. She was about to give up when she saw a flash of curly dark hair disappear around the corner. She jogged to catch up and grabbed Christina's arm.
"What?" Christina snapped.
"Look I know you're pissed and whatever but if I hear from one more person that you've been talking shit about how I only got into this program because of my mother I'll make your life a fucking misery." Meredith hissed at her knowing this was the best way to get the other girl's respect.
A look of surprise flashed across Christina's face, but Meredith continued before she got a chance to respond. "We both know that I'm the one who actually diagnosed her. I came up with the idea and I'm entitled to change my mind about taking a surgery that I earnt. We both know you would've done the exact same thing."
Christina looked at her blankly for a few seconds before replying. "Whatever. I hope you don't expect me to get all sappy and apologize."
Meredith laughed and it was only slightly out of relief. She definitely had taken a risk there and if she was being honest with herself, she was a little scared that Christina's reaction was going to go the other way. She fell into step next to her as they headed back to find what Bailey had lined up for them next.

Finally, after the longest two days of her life, Meredith had gone home and collapsed in bed. After sleeping for ten hours straight it was now early evening and she was cursing herself for not setting an alarm for earlier. Now her chances of getting a good night's sleep tonight was almost certainly ruined.
She sighed and rolled over to grab her phone off the nightstand and saw a text from Christina telling her to meet her at Joe's. She chuckled a bit at Christina's inability to ask and instead demand. She let her arm that was holding her phone flop on the bed beside her and stared up at the ceiling for a few seconds. Letting out a big sigh she hoisted herself up and reached for a pair of jeans and a shirt out of a nearby box. She still hadn't decided if she was going to sell her mother's house, but she was leaning towards keeping it for the sole reason that she couldn't be bothered moving her boxes again. But if she did stay here, she would need to get a couple of flatmates to help her cover costs and that was definitely not something that appealed to her.
Pulling on the clothes she had grabbed she decided to just bite the bullet and advertise for some flatmates. The worst that could happen would be that she hated them and then just kicked them out. Then she would know to just sell the house and move into a smaller place. She made a mental note to make a poster to bring to work tomorrow. She jogged down the stairs and grabbed her bag and keys and left to meet Christina.

Meredith walked into the bar and spotted Christina sitting at the bar. Pulling up the chair next to her she sat down and nodded and smiled at Joe when he picked up the tequila bottle. He already knew her so well.
"Straight to the hard stuff?" Christina asked in lieu of a greeting.
Meredith flicked her a superior look. "If you want to call tequila the hard stuff then sure."
Christina laughed and raised her drink in salute to Meredith. "I knew there was a reason I liked you."
"So, are you ready for our next shift then? Another 24 hours at the bottom of the surgical food chain." Meredith asked.
Christina scoffed. "We were born ready. And we're not the bottom, on our first day we were both the only interns that got to scrub into a surgery."
Meredith smiled and clinked her glass with Christina's in congratulations. "You and me baby. Straight to the top."
They settled into comfortable conversation while watching the other occupants of the bar. Both were taking guesses on whether they worked at the hospital and if so what department they worked in. Meredith saw the door fling open and watched a very attractive redhead walk in the door.
"What about her?" Meredith said, nudging Christina and nodding her head in the direction of the door.
"Hmm, I don't know. I think she's giving off lawyer vibes. She's hot though."
Meredith nodded but didn't give any input. Instead, her eyes tracked the women walking across the room and sitting at the other end of the bar. As if she could feel Meredith's eyes on her she glanced in her direction. Meredith held her gaze and the other woman slowly ran her eyes up and down her body. Meeting Meredith's eyes again she gave her a sultry smile. Meredith blushed and quickly looked away, focusing her attention back on Christina.
"I'm gonna head out. Gotta get sleep when I can. I'll see you tomorrow." Christina said as she was standing up and gathering her things together.
"Yeah, I won't be far behind you. See you tomorrow." Meredith replied, giving her a wave as her friend left the building.
Focusing back on her drink she didn't notice someone slide into the recently vacated seat. She got a small fright when she heard a voice next to her and jumped slightly.
"You look a bit lonely sitting here all by yourself. Maybe I can give you some company."
Meredith turned to see the woman she had been watching smiling at her. "Not lonely but I won't say no to some company. I'm Meredith." She said, reaching her hand out.
"Addison." The other woman replied, taking her hand and shaking it softly.
Meredith felt a flutter run through her body at the contact and groaned internally. Derek had really done a number on her and now she was a horny mess. Even a touch from an attractive woman had her turned on. Addison noticed the slight darkening of her eyes and smirked. She knew Meredith had been checking her out earlier and knew had her right where she wanted her. They both turned so they were facing their drinks again and Addison slid her hand under the bar to rest on her thigh. Meredith let out a breath and Addison heard the slightest moan accompany it. She started softly caressing the inside of her thighs and slowly started moving up. She watched Meredith's face. Her eyes were closed and she was biting her lip.
"Open your eyes." She whispered in Meredith's ear.
Meredith opened her eyes and looked at her. Her eyes were noticeably darker and the look in her eyes of pure lust caused a rush of heat between Addison's legs. Addison stood up and backed away from Meredith not breaking eye contact. She gave her the best come hither look she could muster and turned heading towards the bathroom.
