"It's because Io-"
Shira looked down at his wound and realized that he had two of them and her paws were only putting pressure on one of them.
Shira saw his eyes slowly closing and that made her call out his name. "Diego! Diego stay awake! Come on Diego! Diego don't leave me again!"
Shira shook Diego, but he wasn't moving. She put her ear in his chest, with a little bit of hope, but didn't hear anything. She then saw Diego's body start to move.
She looked up and saw Ellie quickly pick him up. "We need to get him to the ship!"
"What about Gu-" Shira turned her head and saw Gutt and Manny being taken away by a small piece of land.
"They'll be fine. Let's go"
Shira shook her head and jumped onto the ship with Ellie and Peaches. They layed Diego on the ice and Ellie started examining him.
"That's a lot of scars." She said as she was looking at his chest. "They're pretty old. Who knows what happened to him"
Shira's ears lowered in shame and she turned her head away.
"Diego?" They heard a voice say.
Everyone turned their head and saw one of Gutt's crew mates, Raz.
Shira got up and growled at her which Raz put her hands up.
"It's okay, I'm on your side. I'm just trying to help you with Diego."
"Oh yeah? How?" Shira asked.
"I know a few things about healing and if we don't hurry, he could die"
Shira turned her head to Ellie who nodded her head and turned back to Raz. "Okay fine"
"Why help us?" Ellie asked as they started patching up Diego.
"I wanted to keep a promise"
Flashback:
"I get it. And I trust you will do good" Raz started walking away.
"Raz wait" Diego called out.
Raz turned back and looked at him.
"When I leave I want you to come with me."
Raz sighed "You know I don't do so well with groups."
Diego raised an eyebrow "What do you call this?"
"This is my family. Well everyone except Gutt. I can't leave them"
"I get that, but I don't want to see Gutt get angry and do something bad to you guys. (Sigh) I'm not asking you to come with me, but I'm asking you to promise me something."
"Anything."
"When the time is right will you leave Gutt? If he attacks anyone in this crew, I want you to leave him and take everyone else with you."
Raz sighed and got up and walked away.
Flashback ends:
"We did all we could and now we just will have to wait." Ellie and Raz finished up patching Diego.
Shira walked up to him. He had stitches on his chest covering 2 wounds. As she was looking she also saw the scars that were already on his body.
She let her mind wonder back to when she first met him. She lowered her head next to his ear, "I'm sorry Diego. Please make it through this. I'm so sorry" She felt a tear go down her eye.
After a few minutes of her mourning her friend, Shira heard something. It almost sounded like a whale.
She looked up and saw Manny on top of a whale. She smiled as Manny, Ellie and Peaches nuzzled. She wanted to walk up to him, but decided to stay by Diego. She looked to where Raz was to see her getting off the ship, landing on a piece of ice that had the rest of Gutt's crew, and they all sailed off.
"How's he doing" Shira looked to see Manny walking up to them.
Shira sighed "We patched his injuries, but we just need to see if he'll make it."
"You seem to care about him a lot. Is there something going on?"
"Manny!" Ellie shoved him.
"No, it's fine Ellie. I guess it's time to tell you guys'
Shira started telling them her story. How she first met Diego, his pack, the baby, everything.
