And I am here with a new chapter. Not much to say but I have a review to reply to.

catastrophiqu: Forewarning, this is gonna be long. To answer your first question, I get ideas for quirks from various places. As you and others have probably noticed by now, many of the OCs in the side stories allude to different people from both history and mythology. With these I often times try and think of something that relates to whoever the character alludes to, though this is not always the case. Other times I'll see a power, or ability in some other work of fiction that I find interesting and make modifications to it to fit with in the world and not be too OP. Sometimes there will be a character from a work of fiction that I like and want to have them represent in the story, e.i Kumoko(Pretty easy to guess where she comes from). In this case I'll usually pick out some part of their power kit that best represents them and modify it so it's more balanced out. Other times I'll be letting my mind wonder and somewhere along the way I come up with something that'd be a cool power and go from there. Generally speaking though I like to try and think of quirks that don't provide direct combat power so the characters have to be smart with how they use them as I always find that interesting in stories.

For your second question, up until the most recent few chapters I had been feeling kind of iffy about the Manga. Now I'm excited to see what happens next. I like the kind of lone wolf direction Izuku is taking since it kind of vibes with my individualist prospective of the world. The majority of the Paranormal Liberation War Arc before that, while it had interesting stuff, kind of felt off to me. I think the main problem was I wasn't able to understand the reason for the Meta Liberation Army part of Paranormal Liberation Front's reasons for fighting. With the League it wasn't hard to understand there reasons for fighting. They were people who society had, for lack of a better term, failed and as such turned against it in anger. Shigaraki himself can be seen as a representation of evil the festers because the people in hero society have put their responsibilities on the heroes. But the Meta Liberation Army's main contention was that it was wrong that they weren't free to use their quirks. To steel man their position as best as I can, there contention would be; if we're not harming anyone, why shouldn't we be allowed to use the powers we were born with as it is my right having been born with it. As a side note I am sympathetic to this line of argument. Even than, the problem is we don't see any real negative effects of the current policy of regulation. If anything we see only the benefits from it. We also don't see any attempts at them trying peaceful means to change the law. Either by protests or getting the votes to change it in the Diet, the Japanese Parliament. From what the manga shows us its just straight to revolution with no real explanation for why it got to this point. With most if not all revolutions in history, it starts with a slow build up of discontentment which eventually boils over into full blown revolution after enough time of it going unresolved. We see none of the build up so when it just happens, it left me asking, why are these guys going to war? It just seems like they were made just so Shigaraki could get an army as well as act as a vehicle for his growth as a character. Sorry for the long response but I want to lay out the reasoning behind my thoughts on the recent manga chapters.

With that out of the way, onto the chapter.

Chapter 43: Shoto Todoroki: Origin

Izuku's brilliant green eyes met Shoto's cold turquoise and grey. The crowd's roar became silent background noise to them as they were lost in their own world. They were only focused on the opponent in front of them. Each of them were ready to go at a moment's notice.

"START!" Mic shouted, piercing through their world.

Shoto sent out a large wave of ice. Izuku quickly braced himself, charged up [One for All] in his right index finger, and took aim at the wave of Ice.

"SMASH!" Izuku shouted as he fired off a full powered blast.

Izuku barely managed to keep himself standing from the blasts recoil as it ripped through the ice wave. Shoto brought his arms up to shield himself from the cold winds. In the same instant he brought up an ice wall behind him to brace against.

"So that's his max. It looks like he's willing to break his bones to negate my attack." Shoto noted.

Izuku gritted his teeth and fought through the pain to make sure he was ready to counter another attack. After sufficiently recovering from the airblast, Shoto fired off another large wave of ice. Izuku countered with another blast, breaking another finger. The effect was the same, it ripped through the ice and Shoto was forced to bring his arms up to shield himself from the wind. Remember the plan Izuku, remember the plan. Wait for the right moment.

Shoto breathed out, and sent another wave of ice. Izuku countered it by firing another blast, breaking his third finger. Five more left. He fought through the pain and kept his focus on Shoto. Shoto shielded himself from the blast. I see now, since quirks are physical abilities, there's only so much you can use it before it starts to put a strain on your body. He's looking to make it an endurance match.

"I'll end this quickly then." Shoto declared as he fired off another wave while bracing himself for the coming blast.

Izuku fired off his forth blast, ripping through the ice. Shoto however pushed through the blast and rushed forward. He fired off another wave off Ice and then ran on top of it. Izuku quickly fired another blast, now using his left fingers, destroying the ice. However Shoto had already leapt into the air and was coming down towards Izuku. He raised a fist ready to strike him Charging up [One for All] at five percent in his legs, Izuku leapt out of the way. Shoto formed ice from where his fist struck the ground. Izuku quickly landed as Shoto's eyes shot towards him. Ice followed his gaze in a wave, racing towards Izuku. Izuku rushed to his right, trying to circle around Shoto. However Shoto's eyes tracked him. He sent one wave of ice, Izuku narrowly avoided it. He sent another. This time, it caught Izuku's left foot. The greenette's eyes went wide as he saw the ice began to travel up it slightly. Oh no.

"Finally caught you." Shoto noted as he sent another wave forward, while building up an ice wall behind him.

Seeing this, Izuku steeled his resolve. He readied his right fist, charging it with [One for All]

"SMASH!" He shouted.

He sent is fist forward and a large torrent of air ripped forward.

"IZUKU!/IZU!" Eri and Inko shouted in concern.

Izuku cried out in pain from his now broken arm. Shoto was forced back, blast forcing him to make more ice behind him to slow himself down. Izuku's breathing was heavy.

"I see… you want me to stay away don't you?" Shoto noted.

Izuku didn't respond, taking the brief pause to catch his breath.

"You're already that beat up just from defending and running away? Sorry." Shoto added.

As he talked Izuku noticed his right arm trembling. Finally he's hitting his limit. He mentally noted. He gritted his teeth as he fought through the pain.

"Thanks though, because of you the old bastard doesn't look too happy." Shoto noted as his eyes went to Endeavour.

"Where are you looking at Todoroki?" Izuku breathed out.

"Hmm?" Shoto expressed as he looked at Izuku.

"I'm your opponent, not him…" Izuku expressed through the pain.

"Your right, we'll finish this soon. You've only got three more shots after all." Shoto noted as he sent another Ice wave towards him, while being sure to have ice behind him to brace against.

Izuku fired off another blast, ripping through the ice. The blast Shattered the ice behind Shoto, but he was able to quickly make more to stop himself.

"And your trembling, Todoroki." Izuku noted.

Shoto's eyes went wide.

"There's a limit to the amount of cold your body can take, isn't there?" Izuku continued. "That's solved by the heat from your left side, right?"

Shoto scowled.

"Everyone's giving it their all. Their fighting with everything they have to win and achieve their dreams. And you think you can win with only half your power, Todoroki?!" Izuku shouted. "You haven't even put a scratch on me yet!"

Izuku clenched his fist and charged forwards.

"COME AT ME WITH EVERYTHING YOU GOT TODOROKI!" Izuku shouted.

Shoto's eyes widened in surprise. He's moving in close? He sent a wave of ice forward, however it was much smaller and slower than his previous waves. As a result, Izuku could easily dodge it without [One for All]. Just as I thought, he's slower and weaker now. He continued forwards. I'll just have met him head on then. He's only got one good arm and tends to go for punches. Shoto mentally noted as he charged to meet him head on. As they neared each other, Izuku reared back his left fist, readying [One for All] in it. Shoto sent forward a little ice, forcing Izuku to avoid it. Shoto went in for the attack then, ready for Izuku's punch, only to get slammed in his side by an empowered kick. Shoto was sent flying away. He tumbled across the ground. He pushed himself back up, grunting in pain as he did. Izuku charged forward. 1-A and the rest of the crowd could only watch as Shoto and Izuku continued their battle.

"Deku." Ochako muttered as beads of nervous sweat ran down her face.

Izuku fired off another large blast, breaking another finger.

"I knew Midoryia had resolve but… to injure himself like this is insane." Jaune added.

"He's probably got so much adrenaline running through him he's not really feeling the pain." Ren added.

Nora bounced nervously.

"It was his only option to win. Todoroki is too powerful to risk using safer levels of his quirk." Itsuka noted grimly.

While Inko and Eri looked on with worry as Izuku broke another finger, Wiess looked on both worry and awe. Such power… and not just power but their intelligence and determination. To think they're only first years.

Shoto sent a wave of ice forward. Izuku dodged it, only for another to come right at him. He brought his thumb to his mouth and charged up [One for All] in it. I've still got one good finger left. Shoto's eyes went wide. Izuku flicked it off of his gums, sending a weaker blast forward that still shattered the ice. Shoto was pushed back, barely being able to create ice behind him to stop himself. He grunted.

"Why…" He muttered. "Why are you going so far?"

"I've got expectations to live up to…" Izuku replied.

He hobbled forward towards Shoto. The fight was clearly taking its toll on him.

"But I've also got my own dream. To be a smiling hero that people can depend on, that's what I want to be!" Izuku shouted.

A memory of his mother flickered in Shoto's mind.

"Which is why myself, and everyone else is giving everything they've got!" Izuku shouted as his fist slammed into Shoto's stomach.

He was sliding back.

"I don't know your whole circumstance or resolve, nor can I." Izuku stated. "But I do know that you need to cut the crap. Deny your father? If you're serious about becoming number one then quit screwing around!"

Memories of Shoto's life flashed before him as Izuku charged at him. He reared back is fist, charging [One for All] in it.

"If you don't…" Izuku began.

He slammed his fist into Shoto's stomach.

"I'll surpass you!" Izuku shouted.

As Todoroki flew through the air, memories flashed before him. Memories of the suffering he and his mother endured because of his father. Memories of his mother finally snapping and his hatred of his father becoming fully cemented. He tumbled along the ground. He struggled to get up.

"I'll reject him… his power… I… won't use it." Shoto muttered.

"IT'S YOURS! YOUR POWER, NOT HIS!" Izuku shouted.

Shoto's eyes went wide as he remembered Itsuka's words, "it's still your quirk you're choosing not to use, not his." Those words stirred up within Shoto a forgotten memory and forgotten words. It was of a time when his mother was still in the house and not in a hospital.

Many years ago…

Rei, Shoto's mother, was sitting with her young son watching a program of All Might with him.

"While it's true that children inherit quirks from their parents, such things are not important. What's important is recognizing yourself and appreciating who you are. That is what I mean when I say that 'I am here'." All Might declared on the TV.

Present Day…

"You want to be a hero right?"… "It's okay for you to be one."…

How did I forget…

"You're not bound by his blood."... "It's okay for you to be who you want to be."…

The fire started off small before growing in intensity, and erupting into a raging inferno. Midoriya… don't tell me… Itsuka thought to herself. You were trying to save Young Todoroki this whole time? All Might mentally noted in surprise. Izuku was forced to shield his eyes.

"You went on about me screwing around, but you're the one helping your opponent." Shoto noted.

The ice that was covering him began to melt.

"I… want to be… a hero too." He declared.

Izuku's face slowly morphed into a smile, one mirrored by Shoto.

"SHOTO!" Endeavour roared from the stands.

He marched down to get closer to the field. Everyone was looking at him nervously and with great confusion.

"Have you finally accepted yourself?! That's good, it all starts from here! With my blood, you will surpass me and fulfill my desires!" He declared.

No one knew how to respond, and Shoto seemed to ignore him.

"I guess those are words of encouragement." Qrow noted.

"Ors da delusions of a mad man." Splinter added.

"I'm not protecting you from being barbecued." Qrow stated.

"I'lls be fines." Splinter replied.

All of this was ignored by the fighters on the field, who merely stood across from each other. Izuku gazed upon Shoto's flames in amazement.

"Incredible." He muttered.

"Why are you smiling?" Shoto questioned. "With those injuries… in this situation… you're crazy."

Izuku continued to smile but with pure determination.

"Yeah… maybe I am… but… I just can't help myself." Izuku replied.

"Then don't blame me for what happens next." Shoto declared as ice gathered at his feet and began building up around him.

I'm never gonna hear the end of this from so many people. Izuku thought to himself. He charged up a [One for All] In one leg.

"Midnight!" Cementoss shouted as he began to power out cement to stop the fight. "We have to stop this!"

"Already on it!" Midnight replied as she tore at the sleeve or her uniform and released a pink mist.

A glacier of ice of incredible size shot forwards. Izuku leapt over it and came flying towards Shoto. As he flew through the air, he charged up [One for All] in his left arm. The flames around Shoto picked up in intensity, melting the ice. He brought his left hand forward.

"Midoriya… thank you…" He spoke.

The fire shot forward as Izuku's fist flew forward as cement slabs rose to try and stop it all. Everything combined, resulting in a massive explosion. Midnight was sent flying into the air as the crowd was forced to shield themselves from the blast, some nearly were blown away. Soon the wind died down and a cloud of dust covered the field. Having recovered from the blast, Cementoss rose back to his feet.

"Something being powerful may not mean it's good." He muttered as he looked around. "But this is something else."

"The heck just happened out there?" Mic questioned. "Also what's with your students' Erasers?"

"I question that myself sometimes." Eraser replied.

"To answer the first question. The air, having been cooled down a great deal, rapidly expanded from the flames' heat, resulting in an explosion." Qrow explained.

"Neverminds dat, who's da winner. I means da authors already tolds me but everyones else don'ts knows." Splinter added.

"Give me a minute." Midnight grumbled as she returned to her feet.

The dust began to settle. Shoto could be seen standing in the arena. Half his shirt burnt off from the flames. Izuku could be seen propped against a wall outside of the arena, his arms and one leg broken, his sleeves and pant leg ripped apart. He fell to the ground.

"Ah… M-M-Midoriya… is out of bounds." Midnight stated. "Todoroki is the winner!"

Cheers erupted from the crowd. In all of this Inko and Eri rushed to the nurses office, where Izuku will be, many in 1-A also did this. As the crowd talked about the match, Izuku was carried off by robots. Shoto also walked off the arena, still coming to terms with the match. As he entered the hallway, he saw his father standing there waiting for him.

"What, not gonna say, 'get out of my way'?" Endeavour questioned.

Shoto didn't reply.

"Going all out without proper control of your flames was dangerous, but at least you've put aside your childish rebellion. You've taken your first step on your path to surpass me."

He held out his hand to his son.

"Work with me after you graduate, and I'll guide you down the path of the mighty." He declared.

"I haven't put aside anything." Shoto replied.

Endeavour looked at him with slight surprise and confusion.

"It's not something that can change that easily." Shoto continued. "Honestly in that instant, for that one moment… I… forgot all about you."

There was a brief moment of silence as Shoto stepped past Endeavour.

"I don't know whether that's a good, bad, or something in between." Shoto stated. "It's something I'll have to think about."

In the nurse's office…

Izuku groaned in pain as he sat propped up slightly on the bed, both his arms bandaged and in slings. His left leg was also bandaged and in a brace. All Might stood nervously by his bed.

"You shattered the bones in your right arm. I'll have to operate and remove the bone splinters from your joints." Recovery Girl explained.

Izuku groaned.

"I don't regret helping Todoroki… but I definitely regret not figuring out a way to do it without breaking my bones." Izuku muttered.

"I'd say something about discouraging this behaviour but we all know that he'll get plenty of that in about… now." Recovery Girl stated.

"IZUKU/IZU!" Inko and Eri screamed as they burst into the room.

A river of tears was flowing behind them. Toshinori, wisely, stepped out of the way as they rushed to his bedside.

"MIDORIYA/IZUKU/DEKU!" Everyone of Izuku's friends exclaimed as they burst into the room.

Toshinori quietly went to the corner as they all crowded around Izuku.

"That was so reckless of you. I swear young man, unless your's of someone else's life is on the line, I am pulling you out of UA if you do something like this again, no if ands or buts." Inko chastised him.

"Izu… your arms… your leg… I-I-I… I can heal them… I know I don't have much practice but I… you… I can… you… I…" Eri babbled in a panic.

"You stupid, crazy, self sacrificing IDIOT!" Itsuka scolded.

"Darn it Izuku, what were you thinking!? We've had this talk about breaking your bones before. Why don't you listen to your big sister!" Ruby screamed.

"But you're more like a little sister." Izuku pointed out.

"I'M OLDER THAN YOU!" Ruby screamed.

"Dekuuuuuuuuuu… why did you do something so reckless?" Ochako pleaded.

"She's right Midoriya. I know the fight with Todoroki was going to be difficult but to go this far was…" Tenya began.

"Awesome!" Nora exclaimed.

"NORA!" Ren and Jaune shouted.

"I mean… that was reckless and you should leave stuff like that to me." Nora stated.

Ren and Jaune sighed. Izuku groaned as his friends and family continued to chastise him. Meanwhile Toshinori and Recovery Girl watch from the side.

"You gonna stop them?" Toshinori asked.

"No, are you?" Recovery girl retorted.

"I would buuuuuuuuuuut… I need to save my hero-form time for the award ceremony." Toshinori replied. "Besides, this is a far more effective way to discourage him from doing this in the futured."

Recovery girl nodded.

"I get iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit…" Izuku whined. "Can you guys please stop?"

"NO!" They all shouted.

Ruby: IZUKU!

Izuku: Calm down Ruby.

Ruby: I'll calm down when you stop breaking your bones!

Izuku: I feel like this joke is getting old.

Ruby: There's nothing funny about breaking bones!

Nora: Depends on who it's happening to.

Ren: NORA!

Nora: I'm just saying.

Ren: *Groans*

Jaune: Anyways... next time we have the match between Iida and Kendo.

Itsuka: Best of luck out there Iida. You better not hold back.

Tenya: While I have more qualms of hurting a lady, it'd be a greater dishonor if I didn't fight with my all against you Kendo. May the best student win.

Itsuka and Tenya: *Go back to berating Izuku*

Jaune: Also wait... dang it wrong script. *Changing of paper sounds*

Izuku: Jaune can you help me here!

Jaune: Sorry Izuku I'm busy at the moment. Now then... ah... right... actually next time we hop back to see how Yang and the gang are doing in America.

Izuku: Jaune!

Jaune: Sorry Izuku, I don't have a death wish and you need to learn your lesson.

Izuku: *Groans*

Jaune: Anyways, next time, Yang's Story Chapter 2: A Test of Battle. Catch you guys then.
