Jasmine's P.O.V.
The past three days have been intense. I'm glad today I'm to work in the medical cabin. I wonder how much Optimus and Prowl go back and forth to let me work with Jolt and Ratchet and train the other recruits. I'm only going to be working here for two days, then back to training. I'll take it.
Ratchet has told me it's been slow. I guess these recruits aren't as bad as he thought, but they begin training drills today. Obstacle courses involving weapons resembling what we will use on the battlefield, but they'll be using paintballs. I might spend the day studying, but it's a little break from training.
We have one patient in the morning. Coby Andrews claims to have fallen in a thorn bush, but he has several cuts on his hand rather than thorns.
"How could you have deep cuts from a thornbush?" I ask.
"I didn't know it was a thorn bush until it was too late. Plucked out the thorns and realized these are deep cuts."
Coby has thorn cuts, but some are longer as if he got cut by a knife or pissed off a cat.
"How did you get these cuts?" I ask, pointing to the longer ones."I told you, I fell into a thorn bush!" Coby snaps.
While there are patients who hate when their doctors ask questions, this feels different. Like I'm not supposed to find out something. If he's protecting someone who attacked him, I need to know who the attacker is.
Coby rushes out of the medical cabin once I'm done.
"What was that about?" Ratchet asks.
"Something is not right. I think he's hiding someone attacked him. He had cuts that happen when touching a thorn bush, but also cuts as if someone cut him."
"Can't say it's a recruit trying to get out of training since he left in a hurry," Jolt adds.
"Unless he knew he was getting caught," Ratchet points out.
Ratchet goes to tell Optimus what happened. I'm not sure what to think about this. It's suspicious, but Ratchet is right about how we could have caught a recruit trying to get out of training.
Jolt's P.O.V.
This is odd, but I worry we might have just found the insider. Jasmine is not worried — or at least not showing she's worried — as she cleans up from the patient. What troubles me is, was this planned? And what would he have done has Jasmine been training today?
Sunstreaker is not pleased to hear what happened. Furious, he watched the guy walk into the cabin and thought nothing of it.
"He's just pissed," I tell him.
"What if he had his gun?! Or other intentions?!"
"You don't think Jasmine could've handled it?"
"Not if she's the target!"
"She's not panicking, and we need to keep it that way."
Sunstreaker sits on the steps as I go back into the cabin.
The rest of the morning is quiet. Sunstreaker stays on the stairs while we work. We knew he'd take his role as guard seriously, even if he hates humans. Ratchet can work without worrying about Jasmine so much.
Ratchet's P.O.V.
The challenge is the insider — Coby or not — is hoping we'll change things, limiting what Jasmine can do, or that we go as far as tell Jasmine she needs to go home, but we know Yazmine is after her, and home wouldn't be safe. We may have to have her parents stay at the base. I want to protect my girlfriend, not limit what she's allowed to do. Add we're here for two more days, so if the plan is to attack while we're here, it'll happen soon.
There's no training for the afternoon. I'm glad we can spend time together. Jasmine wants to go swimming in the lake.
"Oh gosh, it's cold," she says as she puts her foot in the water.
"Get in the water, wimp," Sunstreaker jokes and picks her up bridal style, walking into the water.
"Some guard you are," she laughs.
The others watching laugh before joining them. It's a fun four hours at the lake before dinner. I have to lie and tell Jasmine we're having a meeting about the recruits during the boot camp. This normally doesn't happen until we return from boot camp.
Third-person P.O.V.
The cabin is quiet while Jolt and Ratchet are at the meeting, but not for long until someone knocks on the door.
"We need help!" The male soldier yells while out of breath, "someone is hurt. You're a doctor, you can help, and we don't have to get Ratchet."
Jasmine may be in her third year of residency and skilled enough to be allowed the opportunity to work with Ratchet, but she still isn't certain if she can handle the problem. She grabs the medkit and follows the soldier.
Two soldiers lay on the ground, bleeding from their abdomen.
"What the hell happened?" Jasmine asks the soldier who led her here, believing the injured ones are unconscious.
"Get...out...of...here...," the soldier she's by weakly says.
Even the soldier who brought Jasmine here is confused.
"You played right into my plan," a man says
Jasmine knew that voice.
"Coby?"
He reveals himself and shoots the soldier who got her, but not to kill him.
"What are you doing?!" Jasmine asks, terrified.
"Taking you to my employers," he replies as he loads the gun with a bullet designed to put the subject to sleep.
All Jasmine can do is scream, hoping someone will hear her and help the soldiers. Knowing she'll be gone by the time anyone gets here. The drugs in the bullet work fast, and Jasmine falls to the ground.
"You do not know what's in store for you."
Ratchet rushes to the scene in his bipedal mode, with Ironhide and Prime close behind. They make it in time to watch Coby, carrying an unconscious Jasmine to a ladder dropped from a helicopter. They watch, knowing how dangerous shooting the helicopter down is. Ironhide and Prime see how worried Ratchet is, realizing he's never been this worried before. Ratchet falls to his knees and cries.
