The Special Ops and I waited patiently as Levi ran through the plan with his new team again. We were finally heading into the Trost district, in an attempt to bait the MP and gain some information off them. Armin and Jean had been disguised as Historia and Eren respectively. The real two cadets were going to be protected by the members of Hanji's team, hidden away temporarily in the outskirts of the town. If everything went according to plan, the MPs would aim for Armin and Jean. We would take down the culprits and squeeze as much information out of them as possible. From the information gained, a new plan of action would be formed.
My Special Ops team was to be split into three, covering the surrounding area. Steve and I would remain moving on the rooftops, the main line of communication between the distraction plan (the fake Eren and Historia) and the real targets (actually Eren and Historia). Sophie and Jack were on the ground with the two hidden 104th cadets, an extra layer of protection for Humanity's two secrets. That left Brian and Linda to watch over the Armin and Jean, making sure none of the cadets were majorly hurt in the process.
"Let's go." Levi's monotone voice called out to me, breaking me out of my thoughts. I glanced over at my team members.
"Stay safe." And with a flick of my head, we split up and headed to different entry points. Steve and I also began walking, passing Levi and his group readying to enter the district, all covered in the usual brown cloaks. I swapped glances with my closest friend, taking note of his calm grey eyes before disappearing into the forest.
After reeling ourselves over the Wall, it wasn't long before a small group of brown-cloaked individuals strolled into the main market. Steve nudged my side and I nodded silently. That would be them.
Slowly, they fanned out to look less inconspicuous and continued to browse the lanes. Steve and I also scanned the walkways from above, keeping a mindful eye on the surrounding rooves, potential blind spots for hiding MPs. As predicted, a commotion suddenly flared up, back on the ground. Villagers yelled in surprise, stalls were knocked down and I spotted Armin and Jean being kidnapped, whisked away by four men. Steve and I hopped to it, instantly stalking the males as they sprinted through the narrow town alleys, pulling Jean and Armin along. Levi and the others would catch up later, using Steve and myself as their beacon in the sky. After twisting and turning how many times, the kidnappers entered a large warehouse; of course, long abandoned. We hid ourselves on a nearby roof, huddling behind a large chimney, with a clear view of the front doors. My eyes took in the landscape. The abandoned warehouse seemed to be somewhat isolated from the adjacent buildings. A large empty courtyard served as the entrance to the main front doors.
"I'll go find the Captain." Steve volunteered, preparing to take off again. I nodded.
"I'll clear the surroundings so it'll be easier for the 104th to get in. They can take care of the rest."
Steve then took off and I noticed a flash of metal as an MP took off after him.
"No you don't, you piece of shit." I grumbled, instinctively taking off after them. Taking a foothold, I leapt into the air and shot a metal wire to the MP's shoulder, jerking them from their path. They yelled in pain as I twisted, throwing them into the brick building behind us. The weak brick wall crumbled under the impact and I landed back onto a slanted roof. As I triggered the claw to release, I spied the glint of a gun barrel to my left.
Instinct took over.
I instantly dropped and rolled, pressing myself against a raised rooftop. Swiftly unsheathing both blades, I readied myself for an opening. From the number of shots and the trajectory of the bullets, I guessed there were two shooters on the opposite side of the clearing from where I was. There was a lull in the shooting and I perked up.
An opening!
"Got you."
I swore as I spotted a gun being flicked over the roof eaves, the shooter clearly hiding from my sight. I dived to my left as the gun exploded blindly and roof tiles shards flew in every direction. Using the MP's position and their blind spot to my advantage, I dived over the gun and whirled around. Glancing at the unknowing MP, I hurled my blade at them. Their grip on the building slackened and I caught the body before it dropped to the unsuspecting people below. Grunting, I planted my feet on back on the roof and heaved the person up.
Not done yet. The other side still needed to be cleared.
An idea suddenly clicked and my grip on the corpse tightened. Ignoring the shivers running up my spine, I grounded myself onto the tiles and swung the body up and over the clearing. Shots automatically rung through the air, ripping into the body. With them distracted, I vaulted up behind it, using it as cover. Once gravity took over, my cover fell and I triggered the gas. Twisting, I propelled my way between the two MP. Now on opposite sides, both officers fired at me simultaneously.
Miraculously, only one bullet grazed my side, ripping the white blouse and dousing the material with my blood. I winced but managed to jump forward and dock the man square in the face. His eyes rolled back into his head and he crumpled to the ground, out cold. Whirling, I readied myself for the onslaught by the other. Instead, I found myself blinking at the MP, face down on the roof, a small trail of blood running out from under the body. Cautiously, I approached the officer and gently kicked the body over. Two clean bullet holes had tore through the officer's torso, drowning the uniform in red liquid. I flinched at the sight. He must've been caught in the cross-fire and killed by his ally. Re-focusing, I turned away from the scene and reeled myself back to the other side of the clearing.
Now, I just had to wait until Levi's squad arrive.
