Coco: I know, I know. It's crazy. Here I am with another update XD I just got really excited and wanted to finish Ayumi's feature chapters to get back to Ayano. I miss writing about her and I had started working on some rough drafts on some future chapters I have in mind, and I'm just really excited to get to them. Of course, we'll have Hachiro's chapter before Ayano is fully back in the spotlight, but she'll be very much center stage again very soon, I promise. I miss writing about interactions with Katsuki, so...yeah XD Anyway, hope you enjoy this chapter. I will admit it seems a bit anti-climatic at the end, but in the next chapter, I'll kind of sum up and wrap up the things missed in this chapter. And you'll see what I mean after reading. Now without further ado, let's get started.
As Stain went in for the attack, Ayumi whirled around the man to avoid the blade slashed at her face. She then kicked up some dirt as she spun around him. It caused him to lose sight of her for a second, and in the second she struck with quick jabs to his torso that barely phased the guy. Not that she was surprised. She wasn't exactly a brawler. She didn't have a lot of strength behind her swings, which is why she mostly relied into ramming into her opponents as she was trying to stop after reaching some of her top speeds.
But those mostly worked as surprise hits meant to take out her opponent in one hit. Or at least daze them enough, so she could continue to hit them with her entire body like a ricocheting bullet. She had a feeling that wouldn't work on someone like Stain as he has way more experience than those villains she fought at the USJ, and he isn't going to go easy on her like her father or his sidekicks during training.
Ayumi then gasped as she had to duck and skid across the ground on her knees to avoid getting her head lopped off. She put some distance between her and Stain though made sure she remained between him and the Tenya. Ayumi let out a breath before her eyes widened when seeing a thick strand of her hair falling to the ground. She looked at the strand before reaching up to feel she was indeed missing some hair from her bangs. She let out a shaky breath before grinning at Stain.
"You're a little scary, you know that," Ayumi commented.
Stain didn't comment as he remained ready for her next move, but in all honesty, Ayumi wasn't sure what to do. Getting close to the guy wasn't something she particularly wanted to do, but she wasn't exactly a long distant fighter.
"Jinsoku, stop this!" Tenya yelled from behind her. "This matter isn't yours to handle! Just leave!"
"Listen, Class Rep, that's not happening." Ayumi said. "So, you just sit tight. I'll wrap things up before you know it."
Ayumi rushed forward again, but instead of hitting Stain directly like the guy had thought she'd try, she went around him and up the wall. She grabbed the clothes line hanging between the buildings that still had clothes attached to it. She snagged the entire line off the walls before gravity set in to pull her back to the ground. She tucked and rolled across the ground, and was back on her feet in no time. She rushed Stain again and once reaching him spun around him like a mini tornado.
The man was soon wrapped up in the clothes line as Ayumi moved away once more. She didn't stay away long as she soon rammed into the tied up Stain, which caused him to hit the wall behind him hard. She went in to punch the guy in the face as he was disoriented, but he recovered sooner than expected. He ducked down causing Ayumi to hit the brick wall behind her, and at the speed she was going the impact shattered the bones in her hand. And as she was distracted by the pain in her hand, Stain cut himself loose. He was then right in front of her and about to cut her when someone else dropped into the party.
"Stay away from her!" Izuku shouted as he came hurtling towards Stain.
He punched the villain in the face, which sent Stain skidding backwards across the ground.
"Deku!" Ayumi exclaimed as the green-haired boy stepped in front of her.
She was a bit surprised to see the boy as she thought Endeavor or Shoto would show up first, but she was happy for the backup. Not to mention, she was surprised Izuku had managed to pull off such a move. Just what kind of training has he been doing the last few days?
"You too?" Tenya asked. "But how?"
"I saw it on TV." Izuku replied. "They had some stats about the Hero Killer. Most of his victims were found where there weren't many people, so in order to find you I needed to search far away from the panic in the back alleys of Hosu City. So, when Jinsoku messaged me I was already close by."
Leave it to Izuku to use his head like that. Ayumi certainly didn't know that about the Hero Killer. She just thought back allies would be the perfect place for an ambush and it was far away from the chaos, meaning the pros wouldn't be near here to interrupt him. That had been her logic.
"Let's go." Izuku said to his classmates. "Back towards the street. We've got to get help from the Pros."
"I can't move my body." Tenya confessed. "It must be his quirk. Since he cut me, I've been paralyzed."
"That's the kind of quirk the people on the TV said the Hero Killer might have." Izuku said. "So, cutting somehow activates his power."
"It has to be more than that." Ayumi said.
Izuku turned to her in confusion before taking note of her mangled hand that looked as if it's been crushed. It had his eyes widening.
"Your hand!" He exclaimed.
"Don't worry about it." Ayumi said as she held it against her chest. "My quirk gives me a fast healing factor. It'll be better by tomorrow evening at the latest. But back to what I was saying. It can't just be cutting that activates his work. He managed to cut off a large chunk of my bangs and I feel fine."
Izuku nodded in understanding. There was definitely more to Stain's quirk. Maybe it wasn't just cutting. He then looked back towards Stain and that's when he noticed the other person with him, which had him stiffening.
"There's someone else." Izuku said.
"Yeah, which is why I didn't just grab Tenya and run." Ayumi said. "But maybe with both of here we can manage. I don't like the thought of running away from a fight, but we're out matched and have two injured. With them unable to defend themselves they become easy targets and possible hostages."
She said this all in a whisper to Izuku as not to be overheard by their new friend who was strangely standing back as if waiting for them to finish talking.
"You're right." Izuku said. "But do you think you can manage to carry someone with how your hand is."
"It's not like we have many options." Ayumi said.
Izuku knew that was true. They needed to get Tenya and the injured pro somewhere safe.
"Midoriya, Jinsoku, please," Tenya spoke up behind them. "Don't get involved. This doesn't have anything to do with you. Either of you!"
Izuku looked at Tenya in disbelief as Ayumi gave a sigh. He's been saying that practically nonstop since she arrived. She thought he'd eventually get the hint.
"Iida, what are you saying?" Izuku asked.
"He's on a revenge kick," Ayumi said bluntly. "But unfortunately for him, he has friends who care about him and who aren't about to just leave him here."
Tenya grit his teeth together wishing they would just listen to him and go. This was for him to handle and he didn't want them involved.
"Did you ever stop to think what your brother might think if he saw you right now?" Ayumi asked without turning to look at Tenya.
Tenya's eyes widened at her words as his brother's face flashed in his mind. And his expression was clearly one of disappointment.
"I highly doubt he'd approve of your behavior." Ayumi said. "But that's something for you to work out later. Right now, the main focus should be all of us getting out of here alive, so if you're not going to contribute to that, shut up and stay back."
Her words came out sounding a bit callous, but they were the words of someone who was concerned for their friend. Someone wanting to help. The teens then looked back to Stain when he finally spoke since Izuku's arrival.
"You both showed up to save your friend's' life." Stain commented. "You even made a big entrance, but I have a duty to kill him and this so-called pro. When your friend chose to fight me, it guaranteed the weaker of us culled."
His words and demeanor set Izuku and Ayumi both on edge. His piercing gaze tore into the two of them like the sharp weapons he wielded and their hearts thumped in fear.
"So, what will you do, boy?" Stain asked. "Stand and fight me like the girl has chosen to. Or flee?"
Izuku's heart continued to rattle in his chest as his thoughts seemed to rush a mile per minute. Stain wasn't like the other villains they faced. No, he something else entirely different. Izuku quickly but sneakily pulled his phone out to send his location to all his classmates not currently present. He knew it was a long shot, but maybe help would come. He didn't know Ayumi had already sent for reinforcements, but either way, someone would come and help eventually.
"Listen to me, stand down." Tenya pleaded. "Run away. I told you this has nothing to do with you."
"If you really believe that then why are you trying to become a hero in the first place?!" Izuku demanded before Ayumi could just tell Tenya to shut it. "There are plenty of things I would like to say, but they'll have to wait. All Might was right though…meddling when you don't need to is the essence of being a hero!"
He then took a fighting stance, which had Ayumi sighing. Looks like he's fired up now. Fighting it is then.
"I'll distract him." Izuku told Ayumi. "Grab the pro hero. He looks like his injuries are much worse."
Ayumi nodded her head as she readied herself to run as soon as Izuku went in for the attack. Izuku launched himself forward and in the instant the Hero Killer's attention was on him, Ayumi was picking up the Pro as best she could before zipping away.
"H.A.P.P.I., I need the closest hospital." Ayumi told the A.I.
'Bringing up the fastest route to Hosu City Hospital.' H.A.P.P.I replied.
Ayano hummed to herself when she heard her phone ding as she was having dinner with Nighteye, Bubble Girl, and Centipeder. Mirio had went home for the night as he had to attend regular classes tomorrow at U.A.
"I wonder who that could be," She said as she picked her phone off the table.
She looked to see a message from Izuku, so she opened it. As she looked over the message, she saw it was just Izuku's location. This confused her for a second before she noticed just what location he was sending her. It was in Hosu City.
"Ayano, is something wrong?" Bubble Girl asked when seeing the girl's bothered expression.
Ayano didn't reply at first as she got to her feet. She turned on the TV in the break room, and immediately the news came on to show the chaos happening in Hosu City. Her eyes widened when seeing the Nomu-like creatures on the screen. She didn't even hear what the news reporter was saying as footage from earlier during the attack was played on the screen. As the footage played, two figures caught her attention in the bottom left corner.
'Ayumi…Izuku…' She realized as she saw Ayumi and Izuku talking to each other.
Ayumi then zoomed away with Izuku going off after her. Ayano turned to Nighteye.
"Sir, my friends," She said pointing at the screen. "They need help."
Nighteye's brow quirked at her and Ayano soon showed him her phone where she had Izuku's location brought up.
"My friend just sent this to me from Hosu, and I just saw them on the TV." Ayano said pointing at the TV. "They're in danger or he wouldn't have sent this to me. We need to help them."
Nighteye kept quiet for a second before standing up from his chair. He placed his napkin down as he looked to his sidekicks.
"Keep her here." Nighteye said. "I'll make a report to the authorities."
"But, Sir!" Ayano protested.
"No," He said firmly. "You will stay here. Even if we did go to help, we'd most likely arrive after the incident is settled. There isn't a need for our involvement, but I will let the authorities know of your friends."
He then disappeared leaving Ayano in the watchful gazes of his sidekicks. Ayano grumbled as she sat down in the chair in front of the TV.
"I'm going to kill them for this," She grumbled underneath her breath.
Though through her annoyance, she felt great worry. Were they okay? Was it just the Nomu? Was the Hero Killer involved? And what about Tenya?
Ayumi, who finally reached the hospital, came to a stop in the E.R. where the people within gasped at her sudden arrival. It was a bit chaotic as injured civilians were being brought in as well. Most likely injured from the Nomu attacking the city.
"Hey, can you take him," Ayumi asked a nearby nurse. "He's bleeding and I'm not sure how extensive his wounds are. Also, he's unable to move."
The nurse nodded along with what Ayumi was saying while taking the pro out of her hands. A doctor ran up while taking note of Ayumi hand.
"You need to get that checked out," He said. "It looks like it was crushed."
"Don't have time for that, Doc." Ayumi said. "You just take care of him, okay?"
Ayumi was then gone before the doctor could insist on her staying put. Ayumi rushed back to the scene she had left earlier to see things had went south during her absence. Izuku was on the ground and Stain was hovering over Tenya with his weapon raised. She gasped before rushing forward. She put herself between Tenya and Stain's sword as the Hero Killer was bringing it down.
But before it could reach her or Tenya flames shot over above them to force the Hero Killer to retreat. At the sight of them, Ayumi felt relief surge through her chest. She sat up while turning her head. Only to see not Endeavor, but Shoto standing there…alone. No pro heroes in sight…But even so, her relief didn't waver as she felt safer knowing the boy was here.
"Shoto!" Ayumi called as she got to her feet.
She zoomed over to him while throwing her arms around his neck. He finally managed to catch up to her. Shoto blinked at her affection though put his right arm around her as his flames were still flickering on the left side of his body.
"Are you alright?" He asked a she pulled back.
"My hand has seen better days," Ayumi confessed. "But I'll be okay."
Shoto nodded then looked to Izuku as he pulled out his phone to hold up for the green-haired youth to see.
"Midoriya, you really need to give more details in times like this," Shoto told him. "If I hadn't already had Jinsoku's message to come here, I might have arrived too late."
Izuku seemed to ignore Shoto's words as the boy stared at the flames licking off of Shoto's arm.
"…you're using your left side." Izuku said.
"Yeah, he's made a lot of progress." Ayumi said with a nod. "Now, let's try to wrap things up, yeah?"
"Yeah," Shoto agreed.
He then activated his right side while shooting ice forward across the ground. Stain jumped up out of the way to avoid being frozen, which gave Shoto time to use his ice to lift Izuku off the ground to slide down the ice and towards the rest of them. Ayumi crouched down to catch him as Shoto shot his flames forward to push Stain back even farther.
"It's alright," Shoto assured them. "The pro heroes will be here any minute. My dad just got held up by those creatures attacking the city."
So, all they had to do was hold on until then. Ayumi guessed they could manage to do that.
"You're just what they said you were." Shoto said to Stain who finally landed back on his feet. "But you won't be taking any more lives, Hero Killer."
"Todoroki, Jinsoku, you can't let that guy get anymore of your blood!" Izuku said. "I think he controls his enemy's actions by swallowing it. That's how he got us!"
Well, Ayumi would just have to make sure that didn't happen. If she was grounded…well, she didn't even want to think about it.
"So, he ingests people's blood to keep them from moving," Shoto summed up. "That explains the blades. All I got to do is keep my distance."
Seemed as if he was wrong about that though as he a blade, which was thrown by stain soon sliced up his cheek. He grunted in surprise. He and Ayumi then looked up with wide eyes to see Stain was practically on top of them.
"You have good friends, Ingenium." Stain said as he and another blade ready for attack. "Or you did!"
He went to slash Shoto, but Shoto put up a pillar of ice to protect himself. The teen was then distracted when he saw Stain had thrown his sword up the same time, he had down the knife. He gasped as Stain grabbed the front of his shirt to bring him close. He nearly managed to lick the blood off of Shoto's cheek, but Ayumi tackled him away. They went rolling away from her friends, and before she could get away, Ayumi gasped as she felt sudden fatigue hit her body. Her vision blurred as she felt the worst pain rack her body. Her stomach felt like it was curling within itself and her veins seemed to scream in agony.
'No, how long as it been…since I ate anything?' She asked herself. 'I burned it away from all the running I've been doing. I hit my limit.'
Her vision grew darker and she couldn't do anything as Stain grabbed her up and wrapped his arm around her neck.
"Jinsoku!" Her classmates called as she was now in the fanatic's clutches.
"Run out of energy, kid?" Stain asked as his hold tightened. "You've stretched your quirk too far. You're finished."
Ayumi couldn't argue there. She was stupid. She got into such a panic, she forgot to manage her quirk.
'I've failed again…' She realized. 'Now I'm just a liability that'll cause them trouble. I can't let myself be the reason they get hurt.'
Tears welled up in her eyes just thinking about the trouble she's causing them—her friends.
"I'm sorry," She said with her voice cracking. "I'm…no good."
Izuku's eyes widened at her words as the tears leaked down her cheeks steadily. Shoto was shocked as well as he felt himself step forward involuntarily. But he halted when Stain tightened his hold around the girl's neck causing her cry out. Despite the situation and the tears running down her face, Ayumi smiled.
"But I won't let me be the reason why we lose today." Ayumi said. "No one is going to fix my messes ever again but me…H.A.P.P.I. initiate the Hostage Protocol. Code: 20304."
Before anyone could even think what that meant, the gauntlet on Ayumi's wrist sparked before letting out a high voltage of electricity. The current was so strong it had Ayumi and Stain both crying out in pain. And as she knew he would, Stain threw her to the side to save himself from the electricity. Ayumi hit the wall before falling to the ground in a sickening thud. As she laid there, her classmates' eyes widened. Ayumi's smile widened though as the darkness was soon becoming too much for her to fight off.
"Now…kick his…ass." She said before passing out.
As the sun rose on the fourth day of internships, Ayumi awoke. She gasped sitting up in the bed she was in while quickly looking to see she appeared to be in a hospital room.
"Look who's finally awake,"
Ayumi's head jerked right to see someone she hadn't been expecting at all to be at her bedside.
"Ayano?" She asked groggily as she squinted her eyes at the girl.
Ayano, who was in her hero costume, and sporting a slightly annoyed expression, sighed as she nodded.
"That would be me," Ayano confirmed.
"What are you doing here?" Ayumi asked. "What happened? Are the others okay?!"
"Calm down," Ayano said. "They're fine, and I'll let them fill you in on how things ended with the Hero Killer later. As for why I'm here, I came to scold my four very reckless classmates. As co-deputy of the class, it only seemed right to do so, which is why I gained permission from Sir Nighteye to come here."
Ayano then gestured to the open doorway, and Ayumi looked to see a tall figure standing there. The man had a centipede-appearance from what she could tell, but it was a little hard to be certain considering he was turned away from them. Ayumi was going to ask who he was, but paused when seeing Ayano's expression. Ayumi sweat-dropped slightly when seeing Ayano's look turn even more annoyed than earlier.
"I've already given the boys' their lecture." Ayano said. "Though Iida and I will continue to discuss things at a later time. But anyway, now it's your turn, and seeing as you missed speaking with the police chief, I'll make sure your lecture is extra special on his behalf."
Ayano said this with a smile, but Ayumi didn't like the sound of that at all. In fact, she was a little scared.
"But," Ayumi tried.
"No, buts." Ayano cut her off.
Coco: This little scene will be wrapped up in the next chapter and then we'll get to read about our dear spider and frog :D Can't wait!
