DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN HARRY POTTER.
21st December was quite an exciting day. The river had frozen during the night and so, Lily, James, Sirius and Severus had all gone skating. Luckily, the ice was hard enough, and so there were no accidents. Lily and Wendy then went for Christmas Shopping in the afternoon, and planned to buy some stuff required for Petunia's upcoming wedding in London. Snape, Sirius, James and Ken went to buy some gifts for Christmas as well. Snape and James went to Diagon Alley briefly to pick up a few gifts, and then came back to the house at 4:30 pm. By 5 pm, everyone was back home and eating some freshly baked bread and butter along with hot chocolate sitting by the fireplace.
That day, Lily had tried to arrange for a meeting with Petunia and Vernon, and they had agreed (although reluctantly on Petunia's part) to meet them at a restaurant in London around 7:30 pm. At 6:30 pm, Lily, Severus and James took Wendy's car and drove to London. As Cokeworth was not too far away from London, they got there on time and waited just outside the restaurant where Petunia and Vernon were supposed to meet them.
At 7:30, a navy blue car, a new model by the looks of it, arrived and stopped in an appropriate parking spot just outside the restaurant. The occupants, a large neckless man in a black suit, and a thin woman with a giraffe like neck and blond hair (or black according to the movies, if you prefer to visualize her that way), stepped out of the car and walked over to the three youngsters assembled there. The man extended his hand and said rather gruffly, "Good Evening. You must be Petunia's sister. My name is Vernon Dursley."
Snape replied with dry politeness, "Good Evening Mr. Dursley and Ms. Evans."
For some reason, he could tell that he was not going to like this man.
Vernon continued, "You must be Mr. James Potter and Mr. err…"
"Severus Snape" Snape finished for him. Vernon replied, "Ah. Mr. Severus Snape. Petunia has told me about you and Mr. Potter."
Lily greeted her sister saying, "Hello Tuney. I've missed you so much! I just can't believe you're getting married. I hope you've been doing well."
Petunia dryly responded without a smile, "Hello Lily. Yes, I've been doing well and I'm excited to be getting married to Vernon. Now, let's please go inside."
Upon seeing Severus Snape, Petunia's eyes narrowed and she said to him, "I thought you and James despised each other. What's happened?"
James smiled and responded, "Severus and I made it up with each other. We're close friends now."
Petunia did not say anything, but narrowed her eyes further before shrugging her shoulders.
The group went inside and found a table for five in a comfortable corner. When the waiter came to take down their orders, Lily, Snape and James ordered vegetable soup, steamed vegetables, breadsticks and a large French fries for all of them to share. Vernon and Petunia also gave their own orders to the waiter and also asked for some wine. As the group waited, they of course had to speak or else die from boredom. Petunia hardly spoke a word except for describing how 'normal and perfect' her fiancé was. Vernon started to speak about Grunnings, a company he worked for that produced drills. After a while, when the food came and they were all eating, Vernon switched the topic to his new car that he had arrived in. He tried to impress everyone by describing his new car, and while Snape found himself disliking Vernon more and more, James found the egoistic way he was describing everything to be amusing.
Vernon was saying (in a rather authoritative manner), "My perfect new car! Takes a lot of hard work to get such a good model! Not that many young people do that, eh. More and more are lazing about these days. That's not normal. What you all need to do, is to work hard. Hopefully, you'll all do that unlike some youngsters these days, just spending their parents' money on all these good cars. But now, I have a perfectly wonderful car of the latest model after all that work that I put in! And there's of course, the goodness of my heart!"
Suddenly, James spoke up saying, "Really?! That's nothing compared to…"
Before he could go on, Severus suddenly kicked him under the table and cut him off, finishing for him saying, "Itself. A new car like that is nothing compared to itself."
Vernon stared at them for a few seconds, but then simply shrugged his shoulders and continued to drone on and on about being so 'perfectly normal'. Lily tried to make conversation with Petunia, but the latter hardly said anything. After a rather boring and not so nice dinner meeting, Vernon and Petunia left the restaurant with rather dry goodbyes, and Lily, James and Severus headed home.
As soon as they got home, the three of them went out into the backyard. As they stood near a tree in the backyard, Severus suddenly pulled James over.
"What were you thinking?!" hissed Severus. "You were going to start bragging about how vast the Potter fortune is! Are you serious?"
James responded, "I know the way he spoke was vain and arrogant and I couldn't help feeling amused. I got carried away."
Severus continued, "It could have gone worse the way you started if I hadn't stopped you. Both of you would have ended up arguing. You need to watch yourself if you ever want to marry Lily Evans someday."
James nodded in response and said, "You're right. I'll keep an eye on myself."
Snape said, "You'd better."
At that moment, Sirius emerged from the house through the backdoor and strode happily towards them. "Hey guys, how did the meeting go?" Sirius asked as he approached them.
"Unpleasant as we expected." Snape replied before saying loudly, "Petunia's fiancé Vernon Dursley is such an arrogant, stuck up man! How can Petunia even like him?!"
Lily said, "I know, right? I don't like that man either. He put us all down with his rants of 'Oh you should be so normal' and he's so selfish and arrogant. I mean, how can anybody even like such a person? Plus, he's like a walrus with his huge size and his walrus moustache! I can't believe Tuney's getting married to him!"
Sirius sighed for a moment before saying, "You know if I had not run away from Black Manor to live with James after my fifth year, I would've been forced to marry Alecto Carrow. She and her brother are both in league with Voldemort. Ugh! I can't even bear to think about it."
Severus declared, "No matter what happens, I will never marry a death eater!"
Sirius looked rather downcast as he spoke, "I've seen some pictures of Petunia, and she looks quite pretty. If she wasn't going to get married to Vernon, I'd probably ask her out."
"As if she'll ever say yes to you of all people! You'll just be called a freak, just like Lily. What a jealous person she is! The only reason I was even polite to her this evening is because I didn't want to upset Lily. Don't even think about suddenly convincing her to be nice, much less than dating her and eventually marrying her." Severus commented vehemently.
James on the other hand was laughing. An image of Petunia leaving Vernon and marrying Sirius was playing in his mind. The idea was so impossible, yet amusing that James couldn't help it. Lily looked at James and Sirius and started laughing as well.
