24th December had arrived and Snape and Lily were sitting by the fireplace at 2 pm after having had some pepper-up potion, discussing some potions that they would most likely have to prepare for their NEWTs. Sirius and James contented themselves with helping Lily's parents decorate the house for Christmas. Of course, Petunia would not be coming, as she was busy with wedding preparations. However, there were going to be a lot of people. Remus and Peter were going to be arriving at 5:30 and James' parents were going to be arriving at 6. James' parents had heard about James and Snape burying the hatchet and were quite excited to meet Snape.
At 5:30 pm, Remus and Peter arrived, knocking on the door and being greeted by Wendy who warmly ushered them in. Remus went to the living room to find Severus and Lily discussing potions. Severus was the first to notice him and waved to him saying, "Hello Remus. I see you've arrived. Would you like to join us?"
Remus responded, "I'm more than happy to join you. I'm a bit surprised James hasn't joined you yet though." "He and James preferred to help with the decorations. Lily was the only one that wanted to study right now." Severus replied. Remus smiled and joined them happily, while Peter went to join James and Sirius.
At 6 pm, there was a knock on the door. There were two elderly people standing right outside the door. James went to the door to see who it was and when he opened it and saw the elderly couple, he rushed forward and hugged them saying, "Mum, Dad, I knew you would be here!"
The elderly people were in fact, James Potter's parents, Fleamont Potter and Euphemia Potter.
"I couldn't celebrate Christmas without my son, could I? Your mother has been eagerly waiting to see her dear boys and Lily!" Fleamont responded. As if on cue, Euphemia wrapped her arms around James and hugged him very tightly before kissing his cheek. She then went in and hugged Sirius, pressing a kiss to his cheek too. Then to Severus' intense surprise, she went and looked at him very affectionately before embracing him like a son and kissing his forehead. After hugging Lily, Peter and Remus, she exclaimed, "My darlings are all here!"
Ken and Wendy came into the living room and greeted the elderly couple. As they introduced themselves to each other, Fleamont shook hands with Ken and politely kissed Wendy's hand. Fleamont then turned to Severus and said, "You must be Severus Snape. James has written to me about you. We are pleased to meet a remarkable young intelligent man like you!" Severus replied, "It's a pleasure to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Potter. James is a kind hearted man and a good friend, even if he does have a silly side."
"Silly! Excuse me! I'm head boy." James responded. Snape simply smiled and ignored James as he continued to talk with Fleamont while Wendy and Euphemia chatted about their children.
Time flew by as they all chatted and ate dinner together. Eventually, the clock struck 11 and Fleamont and Euphemia decided to leave for home, saying that they would be back the next morning.
The next morning, James and Sirius woke up to find Severus sitting on the sofa bed, studying his notes. They crept up behind him and when they were just behind him, they suddenly shouted, "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"
Severus was so startled that he literally jumped off the sofa bed. He turned around and glared at James and Sirius who were grinning and said, "Don't Do That!" James and Sirius simply smiled.
That morning, James, Lily, Sirius and Severus were excitedly opening presents while Wendy was cooking. Snape was quite surprised to find a present from Fleamont Potter: some of Sleekeazy's hair potion. James had gotten him a book on dueling tricks and Lily had given him a locket. Sirius' present was a book on dueling that he had ordered from Diagon alley. Remus, Peter and Lily's parents had also gotten him a few presents, including some nice sweaters and jackets.
Christmas breakfast was quite exciting, and so was the rest of the day. Fleamont and Euphemia came over once again and Fleamont and Severus spent a long time discussing potions. Finally, the day came to an end and it was time for everyone to go to bed. As Severus hit the bed, he thought, "This is the best Christmas I have ever had in my life. With my sister Lily, and my good friends, James, Sirius, Remus and Peter, my life has become much happier."
