James and Lily were now married and Severus now had a big happy family. Despite the fact that Voldemort was at large, Severus felt so happy living with his huge family that he constantly thought that nothing could ever go wrong now like before.

"What could possibly go wrong now?" Severus went on thinking for the next few days.

Unfortunately, he thought too soon.

Barely a month after the wedding, Fleamont and Euphemia both contracted Dragon Pox. Given that they were very old, even by wizarding standards, it was very likely that they would not survive.

Severus did everything he could using his potions skills, but he only managed to reduce the symptoms to an extent. Later on, the symptoms worsened and soon, there was nothing that any of the healers from St Mungo's could do.

Eventually, James' parents passed away on 5 January 1979.

James was quite devastated by the loss of his parents. It was quite early for him to lose them so soon, when he had not even turned nineteen. Sirius was devastated as well. Fleamont and Euphemia had been like parents to him, so much that Sirius had even started calling them Mum and Dad after running away to live with James. Severus was pained deeply by the elder Potters' deaths. Fleamont and Euphemia had loved him very much. In fact, Severus felt that Fleamont had been more like a father to him than his own father had been.

The funeral for James' parents was held on the 7th. Many friends and allies, including Remus, Peter, Marlene, Amelia, Alice, Frank, Gideon, Fabian, Andromeda, Ted, Arthur, and several others came for the funeral to pay their respects. Dumbledore and McGonagall were there as well. As a eulogy was sung for James' parents, Lily and Severus held James' and Sirius' shoulders comfortingly. Finally, the last rites were completed, and Fleamont and Euphemia were buried.

After the burial, James and Sirius sat in front the graves in silence. James softly and painfully said, "Mum, Dad, I hope you find peace now. Although I know that wishing won't help, I can't help but wish you hadn't left too soon. To whom will I turn to now?!" With that, James buried his head into his hands and wept.

Lily put an arm around James and rubbed his chest, attempting to comfort him. She said, "They were good people, and they always helped and supported us. And they had a relatively peaceful ending." James nodded in response and said, "True. And now our parents will be together in the afterlife, whatever or wherever that may be."

Severus and Remus went over and placed their hands on James' shoulders. Severus said, "Your father was more of a father to me, much more than my own father. And your mother loved me very much."

Remus sympathetically put an arm around him and said, "They were always kind to me, despite the fact that I'm a werewolf."

Later on, everyone except Sirius had left the graveyard. Sirius was still sitting in front of the elder Potters' graves, his head buried in his hands, sobbing.

And then, he felt an arm wrap around him even as another slowly made its way to his face and began to wipe away his tears. A few moments later, Sirius turned to his left to see Amelia sitting right next to him, her right arm around him and her left hand trying to brush away his tears. He hugged her and whispered, "I just wish it hadn't been too soon. This is just too early." Amelia simply hugged him back in response.

After some moments, Sirius whispered to Amelia, "They were like parents to me. I ran away to live with James because I just couldn't stand my family's pureblood mania! It was so brutal and cruel! I just couldn't stand it and I ran away. James' parents took me in. They saw me as a son, and soon I just felt so close to them that I wanted to call them Mum and Dad. They even let me do that. And now, they're gone!" With that, Sirius broke out into sobs and buried his face in Amelia's shoulder.

Amelia felt even more sympathy towards him upon hearing what he had just said. She hugged him tightly and said, "I'm so sorry, Sirius." It was all she could really think of saying.

After a few more minutes, they slowly got up and made their way back to Potter Manor, where James, Lily, Severus, Remus, Peter and Marlene were waiting.
