The party was winding down. She had a blast with her friends. It was probably one of the best birthday ever Cameron smiled hugging "so birthday girl any room for more surprises" he says with a big grin as she watched him suspiciously. "Cameron what are you up to?" she says with a smile just when they heard her father yell.
Making them look at each other as did the rest of her friends that were still there. "Marcus take your voice down the kids are still inside" Portia says in a hush tone. "This is why you told me this now not before "19 YEARS PORTIA NINETEEN GOT DAMN YEARS AND YOU DO THIS NOW" Marcus says hurt.
"I Never meant to hurt you, okay. It was just better this way. It hurts me that I did this to you to us" she replies.
As he shook his head" You never wanted to hurt me you made me believe I had a daughter for NINETEEN YEARS PORTIA. DID YOU THINK THAT I WOULDN'T GET HURT" he questioned, with tears in her eyes " No I knew everyone would. Including my daughter she's gonna be so furious with me but I have to be honest.
This is on me. I held on to this for too long"she says, "YOU THINK SO" Marcus replies as the tears streamed down his face. "I couldn't bring myself to take her from you and it just dragged on Marcus. I'm sorry" Portia said, trying to ease the blow. Wiping his tears away "Sorry ain't gonna fix Portia" he says, "Mom, Dad what's all the shouting for?"Trina asked.
With Cameron behind her looking between her parents, Marcus turned his head so she wouldn't see he was crying. "It's fine your dad and I were just having a disagreement," the woman responded. "Why is dad crying?" She asked, "I'm fine baby it's been a good night, enjoy the rest of it" Marcus said.
Kissing her on the cheek and hugging her tight before leaving quickly "DAD, DAD" Trina says calling to him.
As his back was turned "Trina just knows that I will always love you" he says going to his car and speeding off.
Flashback
Six months ago
She entered her house taking off her shoes, turning on the news when she saw him there on the television. Turning it up and listening to the story and there he was with his daughter in his arms carrying her out. Portia couldn't believe it. "Hey mom what's up?" Trina asked, breaking her mother out of a trance.
He was a grandfather and father of five when she turned and looked at Trina. "Hey baby how's school?"she asked. Seeing the picture of his son who has a striking resemblance to Trina was uncanny. It was only one time and when she was going to tell him he told her that he and his wife. Were going to work things out and that he was sorry so she told him so was her and Marcus.
And they let bygones be bygones; he and his wife had left Baltimore not soon after in that moment she realized. What she did to everyone involved was wrong; it was a random hookup after they left she had learned that he was on drugs. It all made sense he was spiraling out of control and that was when she made the decision to not tell him ever now that he was on the television.
Being held as a hero for saving his daughter and youngest son who looked alot like Trina. " Crazy hectic but I have it under control what happened there" Trina asked, "Oh a young woman was kidnapped and she was pregnant. Her brother stepped into help and they took him as well but their father is a Police chief and he rescued them,"Portia replies. "Awesome big points for the good guys" the girl said, "yeah right that is amazing for the good guys"she says. "Hey do you think they are gonna keep that Cyrus guy behind bars I can't help but be worried about Dad '' Trina says. "He's not getting out of jail anytime soon" Portia said remembering that Marcus got shot trying to save them.

"Hello I'm here to speak to Chief Ashford '' she asked, " I'm sorry ma'am Chief Ashford is not taking anymore interviews"the man answered, never looking up at her. "Umm hi i'm not here to interview him I really need to speak to him it's a personal matter. Hey hi It's really important"Portia says knocking on the table in front of him "Look Miss Mr. Ashford is really busy right now.
If you leave a message I will make sure he gets" he replies, dismissing her and going back to what he was doing. Just as she was about to speak she heard his voice making her turn around. "Curtis," Portia said as he looked up at her in disbelief "Umm Matt, give me a minute you can go to the conference room i'll meet you there" Curtis says. The man nodded and walked away as the desk sergeant looked up "she was just asking for you sir" he says. "Something with a P right, what are you doing here? It's been a long time" he replies, confused.
He was high as a kite and she was drunk and hurt because they were both in a bad place but he came clean. Too Elena about the drugs and having sex with another woman and after alot of back and forth. He wanted to fight for his family; they had four small children and he wasn't giving up on them.
And he told Portia the same thing and she told him that she loved her husband and they were gonna work things out. Then went their separate ways; he followed Elle and the kids to Florida. They lost touch after that so he was surprised to see her almost 19 years later. "Yes it is, can I speak to you in private?" Portia questioned.
As he pulled her aside "What's so important that you seek me out almost 19 years later. How did you find me feeling" Curtis asked feeling weird about the situation, "Umm I saw you on the news a few weeks ago and I wanted to speak to you. I went back and forth. With myself about it at first but I have to be honest with you"she says, "Honest with me about what" he says.
"Our daughter,"Portia says, catching him by surprise. "Excuse me what?" he said now, pulling her into an interrogation room. "Look I know I should have done this a long time ago but we have a daughter" she says. Curtis was in complete shock. "It was one time almost nineteen years ago are you sure she is mine. What is it that you expect to get from me why now is this this ruse because I don't have time for this nonsense" he said.
Feeling again as if his life was being ripped from him "Wait Curtis no it's not like that at all. I saw you on the news saving you daughter and your son who looks a lot like Trina my daughter. And I felt bad not telling you not being honest after you were honest with me. Trina doesn't want or need for anything Marcus and I have, giving her a good life.
But I saw they way you and your kids were and I felt like i had cheated her of that kind of love. The love your kids have for each other I just wish that she had that" Portia says, shaking his head "No I need a DNA test or something. I mean what, Oh my gosh Elle" Curtis says. "Trina doesn't need anything here, you can run the DNA if you want but she is your daughter" she says. Giving him a brush that Trina used then leaving him there.

And that was six months ago she had only heard from him after he did the DNA test and that Trina was in fact his daughter. But that was the only time it was up to her to tell Trina and Marcus but with her being kidnapped. After Marcus's supposed death she felt that it was wrong to throw this on them.
After getting Marcus back, Curtis had reached out about wanting to get to know her. So she was running out of time. That's why she had to tell Marcus but look at her daughter now she knew that she would be hurt. And that she waited way too long to tell either of them the truth. "That was weird, what's wrong with dad?" Trina asked.
When her mother faced her in tears, "Umm Trina baby we need to talk in private" Portia says. "Mom what's going on?" she asked, only making her mother tear up even more. "Come with me please I need to tell you something" she says leading Trina to the back. When they heard a shout "REALLY YOU DO THIS AND YOU THINK THIS GETS ATTENTION ESME ITS OVER" Spencer said coldly.
Storming out "Have a great birthday Trina" he says leaving with Esme chasing after him as his car sped off. "Umm Party is over everyone can go"Cameron shouted having everyone clear out. A little while later after Trina said goodbye to her friends she found her mother standing on the mantle looking at all their pictures. "Mom, you said we need to talk about what's up?" Trina asked. When her mother turned around tear stained face came and took her hand.
"I did something a long time ago that I shouldn't have but I was in a bad place at the time. Baby just know that I never meant for this to go on this long but it has and. Now I can't lie to you anymore Marcus isn't your biological father another man is" Portia says, taking Trina by surprise. "What I….I….don't I…. don't understand how" she asked, looking down sadly "I sought solace with someone else" the woman says.
As Trina pulled away "Is that why your marriage didn't work because you were cheating on dad or wait he's not my dad. "Some stranger why tell me now why after 19 years you tell me this" she says hurt. With the tears streaming down both of their faces "Because I saw him with his children your siblings and the way the cared for one and other.

I'm sorry baby" Portia says in tears, "Is that why dad was crying" she asked. With Portia shaking her head "I just told him the truth"she answered, "How do you even know that he isn't my dad and this other man isn't?" Trina says. "Because I had a DNA test done" Portia responded, making Trina's head jerk in disbelief.
"Where did you see this man that you sought solace with Nineteen years ago. Did you just walk up to him and say hey you fathered my child" she questioned angrily. "Trina I get your anger but you will not be disrespectful" the woman says with her daughter glaring at her. "You get to tell me how I feel or how to react. You lied to me my entire life.
Does he even know about me? Where did you even see him" Trina asked, "Umm, I saw him recently and I told him about you" Portia says. "When" she asked, shaking her head "It doesn't matter baby but he knows about you and he wants to get to know you. Here's his number if you want to get in contact with him" she says. Shaking her head "I….. I can't be here right now" Trina stammered out leaving in a hurry. What was the best birthday ever was now the very worst ever as her car sped off leaving her mother in tears.

Ashford- Tavares house
A little over 1500 hundred miles away things weren't much better; it had been six months since. They had found out about Trina which nobody took lightly especially after what had taken place. With Starr and Robbie being kidnapped while she was pregnant, which he felt responsible for. The kids were Switzerland ,between them tried to get them to help him win his wife back.
This is what tonight was about all the kids where at their own places with the exception of Robinson he was at his grandparents house. Looking around the place proud of how it looked Elody cave's and decided to help him set up. When he heard her pull up "showtime Ashford" he whispered to himself before walking to the door with her favorite flowers in hand dimming the lights ,her favorite cologne and outfit she loved in him.

Taking the bags from her hands then handing her the flowers "I never left you did" she replies accepting them and smelling them "I know but baby girl I am letting you know that I am sorry and that I never meant for any of this to happen.

Out of her face he did clearing her throat "Umm thank you so shall we" she says knowing what that look meant.
"Yeah come with me," he said, leading the way then covering her eyes. "Is this necessary, Curtis?" she asked. His touch sent a shiver down her spine taking a deep breath and she let him lead the way."Yeah it is just trust me" Curtis said. She didn't say anything until he removed his hands and she was floored. It was a remake of the day he asked her to marry him. It shocked her as she looked around "Curtis wow umm I don't know what to say" Elena says.
Even as mad as she was he could still manage to take her breath away."You don't have to say anything" he says pulling her chair out. Then pushing her in then pulling off the lid to the food shocking her again"is what i think it is" she asked. Making him shake his head "Yeah I had it brought down from Baltimore" Curtis answered. With three kids and a wife who was overwhelmed and didn't know how to do any of this without his big brother.
