Disclaimer: I don't own 'Grey's Anatomy' or anything associated with it or its characters.
Author's Note: This is my first 'Grey's' fanfic, so please be kind, lol. Oh and def. read and review if you like it. This for now is just a one shot. If I can think of more to add to it it might develop into a longer story.

He'd never admit it, but standing there, watching her cling desperately to Denny's dead body, broke his heart just a little bit. "Izzie." He choked out, breaking the awkward silence that had quickly filled the room.
"He-he proposed to me." She said staring blankly into space. "He proposed to me a few hours ago and now he-now he's-no." She shook her head, she couldn't bring herself to say the word.
"Izzie you can't stay here." He said reaching out and gently touching her arm. She quickly nudged his hand off of her and closed her eyes, snuggling even closer to Denny's body.
"He's cold already." She commented sadly as she linked her hand with his. "A few hours ago he was proposing to me. Isn't that ridiculous? It's so ridiculous!" She yelled angerily.
"He loved you Iz." He nodded understandly. "But you can't stay here-they have to do stuff to him now." He added glancing toward the doorway where several nurses were standing by waiting.
"I don't want to leave him." She replied looking up at him for the first time since he'd entered the room.
"Izzie you have to." He said reaching down and scooping her up into his arms. She struggled with him for a minute before breaking down and sobbing into his chest. The nurses that were standing in the doorway looked at him sadly and stepped out of his way as he walked out of the room.
"I loved him Alex. I really loved him." She shook her head as leaned against the outside of the hospital. "How could I have been so stupid. To fall in love with a dying man."
"It's not stupid." He said stepping out on the curb and attempting to hail a cab. When one stopped in front of him he held out his hand to her. "Let's get you home."
"I don't want to go home Alex." She shook her head as she slid down onto the damp ground.
"I think it's best if you-"
"No." She shook her head as she glanced up at him. Her blonde locks were messy and her mascara was smeared under her eyes. "You can go though."
"No." He shook his head as he slammed the cab's door shut. "I'm staying here with you."
"You don't have to do that."
"Maybe not, but I want to." He said sitting down beside her.
"Thank you." She said locking eyes with him.
"For what?"
"Not leaving." She replied closing her eyes and leaning her head on his shoulder.
"Do you want to-talk about it?"
"Not right now." She shook her head. "I can't right now." She added in a whisper as tears began to slide down her cheeks.
"Okay." He nodded understandingly as he felt her reach for his hand. Without saying a word he interwined his fingers with hers and they sat together for a long time, just listening to the silence of the night.
