Sometimes it's just easier to fool everybody into believing that he's happy. He is so use to it by now that it has become a second nature. As soon as he's scared the painted shield moves into place protecting him from the chaos outside.
Worn-out shield, a fake smile painted onto a face
People are curious. Always wanting to know, always asking questions, always probing. But the painted shield has always managed to deflect and evade such questions. The shield has a million and one uses.
Invincible shield, guards from questions
It was easy. He smiled, acted childish, and the interrogations would stop often too frustrated to continue on. However, the mask has been seen through. And now he wishes the mask has a million and three uses.
Invincible shield clashes with invincible sword
His mask starts to crack more often. It seems the invincible sword will destroy the shield. But he is a skillful fighter and he knows how to evade, not just block. Too bad the ninja is also a skillful fighter; he knows how to slip around the shield.
The victor …
"Damn it mage! Give me a straight answer for once!"
"Aww but Kuro-rin it's so fun to tease you."
The ninja attacked and the mage blocked.
"Quit playin' around! I saw it in your eyes. You were afraid and ashamed of something. Or else nothing can wipe that damn smile off your face and believe me I've tried."
"But Kuro-tan I have nothing to be ashamed of. See I'm perfectly happy!"
The ninja attacked and the mage evaded.
"…so you don't deny that you were afraid?"
"…Kuro-sama has caught my mistake."
The mage faltered and the ninja slipped around.
