Jenkins looked at the information about the Saints and Romeo as he sighed and he tapped the pen against the top of the desk. It had been a week since Sibeal's visit and he wondered if he was wrong. That Sibeal really was Connor and Murphy's uncle and he wasn't a threat. Jenkins sat back in the chair when the door opened and Jerry walked in the room.
"What's wrong?" Henry asked.
"I just got a call from the front gate. The protesters are back. So is the press," Jerry said.
"Are they causing trouble?"
"They were fine until the ambulances showed up."
"What ambulances?!" Henry asked as he stood and he walked to Jerry.
"Three ambulances showed up shortly after the protesters. One of the protesters overheard the driver mention the Saints and…"
"Wait! The driver mentioned the Saints?!"
"Yeah."
"Are they still outside the gate!?" Henry asked as his ulcer burned the lining of his stomach.
"No. The guards had to let the ambulances in because the protesters were started to get violent."
"Where are the ambulances now?!"
"They're out front."
"Has anyone entered the prison?"
"Yeah."
"Shit. I knew it! I knew that old asshole set me up!" Henry thought.
"We have to get to the infirmary! Now!" Henry said as he headed for the door and Jerry followed him.
"What's the rush?" Jerry asked.
"This is either a jail break or we just let in the Saints' killers!" he said and they ran down the hallway.
In the infirmary, Connor and Murphy ate their breakfast when the doors opened and Mike watched nine people enter the room. They were wearing EMT clothing and one of them had a portable heart monitor and a medical kit in her hands. He noticed the stretchers when the alarms sounded and he removed the gun from the holster.
"Stop right there!" Mike said as he pointed the gun at them. He armed the gun as he glared at them and he growled. "I mean it!"
Connor and Murphy were startled as Mike fired a warning shot into the ceiling and the alarm to the heart monitor next to Romeo's bed went off.
The young woman with the medical kit and the portable heart monitor ran to the bed as she checked the screen of the heart monitor and Mike turned to point the gun at her.
"Stay away from him!" Mike shouted.
Connor carefully got out of bed as he headed for Romeo's bed, but a young woman wearing an EMT outfit stood in front of him. He noticed she had long black hair pulled back in a ponytail and dark eyes and she was a few inches shorter than he was.
"Get out of my way," Connor said with a growl to his voice and she suddenly went into a defense stance.
"Sorry. That's not going to happen," she said. He noticed the harsh look in her dark eyes, but there was something else. Something he found fascinating.
"Think you can…?" he asked then he gasped as she slammed her right fist into his stomach where the stitches were. Connor went onto his knees while a sharp pain made it a little hard to breathe and he closed his eyes.
"Connor!" Murphy shouted. He tried to get up when he pulled himself up into a sitting position and he got out of bed. He quickly hopped over to his twin when he knelt down next to him and Connor was gasping for air.
"He shouldn't have gotten out of bed," the young lady said then she looked at the first young woman. "How's he doing?"
"He's stable," the first young woman said as she walked to her then she looked at the twins. "You weren't supposed to harm them."
Suddenly, the doors slammed open as the guards wearing body armor and armored helmets with faceguards rushed into the room and Jerry and Jenkins stood in the hallway. Connor and Murphy watched as the others drew their weapons and one of the young women knelt down next to Connor. She had brown hair pulled back in a ponytail and her green eyes sparkled while she gave Connor a small smile.
"Sorry about that," she whispered and he titled his head to one side.
"Stay where you are!" Henry shouted.
"Get out of our way," the first young woman warned and the guards pointed their guns at her. Murphy slowly got to his feet while he hopped over to her and Mike pointed the gun at him.
"Get away from her, Murphy!" Mike said.
"I'm not gonna hurt her," Murphy said while he tried to keep his balance.
"I know you won't. But I don't know if she'll hurt you."
Murphy looked at her as his blue eyes locked with her blue eyes and a warm tingle feeling moved over him. He noticed the overhead lighting was shining on her blonde hair and he swore his heart was beating faster. She scanned him with her eyes when she looked down and she saw the blood spreading over the bandage around his left calf.
"You're bleeding," she said and Murphy looked down.
"Aye, I am," Murphy said as he glanced at Romeo then he looked at her. "Is he ok?"
"Yes," she said when she realized something and she frowned. "He called you "Murphy". Are you Murphy MacManus?"
"Aye," he said as he noticed the confused look in her eyes and he hopped on his right foot. She then looked at Jenkins when she walked by Murphy and she stood in the doorway.
"Weren't you informed about this?" she asked and Jenkins frowned.
"Informed?! Why would I be informed of a prison break or an assassination of two of my prisoners?!" Henry demanded and she held her hands up before she lowered her right hand into the pocket of her lab coat. She removed the cellphone when she pushed the buttons before she tossed Jenkins the phone and he caught the cellphone.
"Push the call button," she said. Jenkins pushed the button when he held the cellphone up to his right ear and he waited for whoever he was calling to pick up.
"Hello? This is Warden Henry Jenkins. Who is this?" Henry asked then his eyes widened. "Oh. Hello, Your Honor. I… I'm calling to clarify something. Yes, it is about the Saints. What? Uh…. Well… Yes. Yes, Your Honor. Goodbye."
Murphy and Connor looked at each other as Jenkins tossed the young woman the cellphone then Jenkins looked at the guards. Jenkins motioned with his hand for Mike and the guards to leave and the guards and Mike left the room.
"Who was on th'phone?" Connor asked while the young woman next to him helped him to his feet.
"It was the Governor," the first young woman said while she walked in the room then she looked at Murphy. "Let's have a look at your leg."
"No," Murphy said as he tried to hop backwards, but his right leg started to give out and she ran around him to make sure he didn't fall.
"Please," she said in a soft voice and Murphy sighed. She helped him get onto one of the stretchers and he went onto his back. He watched her change the rubber gloves she had been wearing as she gently moved his left leg up and she removed the bandage. He winced as she cleaned the blood away then she checked the stitches. "Who did this?! The wound should be healed by now and the stitches should've been removed!"
"Is my leg infected?"
"Luckily, no. But this is…barbaric."
Murphy noticed the fury in her eyes as she rebandaged his calf then he looked at the ceiling.
"We need to get out of here," the young lady who punched Connor said and the first young woman nodded.
"Let's start with this one," the first young woman said as she pointed to Romeo and Connor frowned.
"Are you sure it's safe t'move him?" Connor asked.
"Yes. But we need to remove the feeding tube."
The twins watched as the first young woman carefully removed the feeding tube then they loaded Romeo on the stretcher and the young women who was kneeling next to Connor led the stretcher out of the room.
"Your turn," the first young woman said while Murphy watched her place the medical kit next to his right side then she opened the portable heart monitor.
"Why do you need all this fer?" Murphy asked.
"From what we were told, Murphy MacManus is in a coma."
"Oh. Right. Uncle told us that," he said as he looked at Connor.
"Aye, he did," Connor said with a nod.
"Who are you talking about?" the first young woman asked.
"Never mind. Can we get goin'?" Murphy asked.
"Sure," she said as she started to place the leads to the portable heart monitor on Murphy's chest and a small shiver moved through him. She noticed the tattoo on the left side of his chest near his heart and she leaned over to almost touch the tip of his nose with hers. "May I ask you something?"
"Sure," Murphy said while he felt himself getting lost in her eyes.
"Who is Norman?" she whispered. She admitted to herself that she liked his crooked smile and he rolled his eyes.
"I'll tell you later," he whispered and she nodded. After she taped the tubing to the intravenous bag to his left forearm, hooking the small plastic bag to the metal pole connected to the stretcher and covered him with a sheet up to his lower chest, the first young woman nodded and the young woman who punched Connor moved the stretcher to the door.
"Let's check you out," she said. She moved the bandage around Connor's lower chest and stomach so she could check to see if he was bleeding.
"Am I ok?" Connor asked.
"Yeah, you're fine. Get on the stretcher."
She helped him onto the stretcher as he went onto his back and she covered him with the sheet up to his lower chest. She moved to the end of the stretcher where his head was and she nodded. They left the room while they headed down the hallway and Connor looked up at her.
"Mind tellin' us where we're goin'?" Connor asked.
"Sorry. I am afraid that information is classified."
"Ok. How about this. Are you on our side?"
"Yes."
"How are we gonna get outta here? We all can't fit in th'elevator."
"We're using the service elevator."
"Then what?"
"No offense, but will you please shut up."
Connor heard a hissing laughing coming from the stretcher in front of him and Connor nodded while making a small sigh.
After leaving the service elevator, they arrived at the front entrance and the first young woman noticed the press people and news crews waiting outside.
"Shit. I forgot about the press," she whispered, frowning.
"What do we do now?" the young woman who punched Connor asked after she turned to look at her.
Connor watched while the first young woman walked to the stretcher as she looked down at Romeo then she looked at the ambulances parked just outside the doors.
"Let's go," the first young woman said and they headed for the doors. The doors hissed opened as the press people and news crews moved back and one of the people with her opened the doors to the ambulance. Ignoring the questions being fired at her, she helped get Romeo settled when she left the ambulance and she closed the doors. She went back inside when she walked to the stretcher and Murphy looked up at her. She looked down at the oxygen tank at the bottom of the stretcher when she slid the oxygen mask over his nose and mouth, turned the valve to activate the oxygen and he frowned. "You need to close your eyes."
Murphy nodded as he closed his eyes and she smiled down at him. Before they could move the stretcher to the door, Connor had gotten off the stretcher and he held onto his right elbow while he walked toward them.
"Hold on," Connor said while he looked at the ambulances. "You're not takin' my brudder out there without me."
"Get back on the stretcher."
"I said…"
"I heard what you said. Get back on the stretcher."
"No!"
"Hold on," the young woman who punched Connor said while she walked to Connor and Murphy looked up at her after he had opened his eyes. "Maybe this is something we can use."
"How so?" the first young woman asked.
"Let me ask you this. Would he really allow us to take his brother?"
"No, I fuckin' wouldn't," Connor said with a growl in his voice.
"Which means he would fight us tooth and nail until we allow him to go with his brother."
"You're right."
"No offense but we better get going. The press is watching," the young woman who was kneeling next to Connor said and the first young woman looked at them.
"You ready to go?" the first young woman asked and Murphy nodded his head. She looked at Connor as Connor arched an eyebrow and she smiled. "How good of an actor are you?"
"We took a year of Drama in school," Murphy said as he lowered the oxygen mask.
"Gee, fer someone in a coma, you're really chatty," Connor teased and Murphy placed the oxygen mask up before he flipped him off.
"Let's go," the first young woman said while she rolled her eyes and the other two young women softly laughed.
As the doors opened, Connor followed them outside as he argued with the first young woman about Murphy being placed in one ambulance while he had to travel in another then he pleaded with her to be careful when the stretcher with Murphy on it was placed inside the ambulance. They argued some more before the first young woman gave in and Connor was helped into the ambulance. The young woman who was kneeling next to Connor got in the ambulance with them as the young woman who punched Connor got into the empty ambulance and the first young lady got into the ambulance with Romeo. The press and news crews moved back after the sirens filled the air and the ambulances drove off.
Safe Haven
"To repeat our top story. Three ambulances have arrived at Hoag Maximum Security Prison. A short time later, three prisoners were seen being taken out of the prison. Two prisoners have been identified as Connor and Murphy MacManus," the reporter said then he gave a brief history about the Saints. "It appears Connor MacManus was seen in a highly agitated state. He was eventually calmed and he was allowed to travel in the ambulance believed to be carrying his brother. The condition of Murphy MacManus and the other prisoner are unknown. We have been trying to contact Warden Henry Jenkins, but he has refused to take our calls. We also have no contact from the Mayor or the Governor's offices. Stay tuned for more information. This is Glenn Maxell, reporting."
Smecker used the remote to turn the television off as he sat back in the chair and he steepled his fingers together.
"I hope you're happy," Sibeal asked as he walked in the room and Smecker looked at him.
"It worked, didn't it?" Paul asked while Eunice entered the room and he looked at her. "Are they here?"
"The ambulances just arrived," Eunice said.
"Let's go," Paul said as he got up then he left the room.
Eunice shrugged her shoulders while looking at Sibeal then she rose to her feet as they followed Smecker out of the room and they headed down the hallway.
Outside, the ambulances sat near the gangplank as Eunice, Smecker and Sibeal walked outside and they stood at the railing. Smecker looked at the ambulances as one of the young women opened the doors to the first ambulance and he watched them remove one of the stretchers.
"Who is that?" Paul asked.
"That's Romeo," Eunice said and she noticed that Romeo was unconscious. She watched one of the young women check Romeo's vitals when she nodded and headed for the other ambulance.
"Right," the first young woman said after she opened the ambulance doors then she looked at Connor and Murphy. The twins had their eyes closed and Connor's head was pointing down to his chest. She smiled when the other two young women walked closer and a stretcher was between them. After going inside the ambulance, the first young woman placed her right index finger against her lips as the other two young women smiled and she gently shook Connor's left shoulder. "Wake up."
"No," Connor grumbled.
"We're here."
"Where?"
"Somewhere safe."
"Oh," he said with a yawn and he barely opened his eyes. He looked at Murphy then at her and she looked at the screen to the heart monitor.
"He's asleep," she explained then she helped Connor to his feet. The other two young women helped him onto the stretcher as the first young woman slid the sheet up to his lower chest and he yawned. She watched him drift back to sleep as she nodded and the other two young ladies moved the stretcher out of the way.
"Connor!?" Murphy called out after he sensed his brother was no longer near him and the first young woman got back into the ambulance. She noticed his eyes were barely open as she knelt down next to the stretcher and she was surprised when he made a small whimpering sound.
"Hey. There's not need to get upset. Connor's fine. He's outside," she said with a soft tone and he felt her moving her fingers through his hair. Standing up after she slid the oxygen mask over his nose and mouth and turned the valve to activate the oxygen, she moved the stretcher as the driver helped her remove the stretcher from the ambulance and she pushed the stretcher down the dock. She looked up to see Smecker, Eunice and Sibeal watching her then she looked down at Murphy. "Remember. Keep your eyes closed."
Nodding, Murphy made a content sigh as he closed his eyes and she pushed the stretcher toward the gangplank.
Smecker watched while the men moved the stretcher with Romeo on it up the gangplank and the young woman who was kneeling next to Connor looked at him.
"How's he doing?" Paul asked.
"He's stable," she said and he nodded. She led the way as the men followed her and Smecker watched the men move the stretcher with Connor on it up the gangplank.
"Did he give you any more trouble?" Paul asked the young woman who had punched Connor.
"No," she said and Smecker nodded. He watched her leading the men away then he turned to look at the men moving the stretcher with Murphy on it up the gangplank.
"Please move, Sir," the first young woman said and Smecker moved back so she could go pass him.
"How is he?" Paul called out and she turned to look at him.
"As well as can be expected."
"What does that mean?"
"It means we shouldn't have moved him."
Smecker saw the anger and worry in Sibeal's eyes as Sibeal and Eunice went to follow her and Smecker sighed, shaking his head.
The infirmary
Connor's mind registered that he was in bed as he opened his eyes then he turned his head and he watched the first young woman checked the screen to the heart monitor next to Romeo's bed.
"How's he doin'?" Connor grumbled.
"He's doing fine," she said as she wrote the information in Romeo's medical file then she walked to the bed. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm good," he said then he turned his head to look at the bed where Murphy was sleeping. She followed his gaze as she walked to the bed and she looked down at Murphy. Connor watched her examining Murphy and Murphy made a small sigh.
"Are you wake?" she whispered after she had leaned down and Murphy barely opened his eyes. She had removed the oxygen mask and she noticed the slightly angry look on his face.
"Aye, but I have t'piss," Murphy whispered and she stood straighter. Connor watched her walking to the counter when she opened one of the cabinets and he saw she was reaching up for something.
"What're you doin'?" Connor asked.
"Hang on," she said as she walked back to Murphy's bed and Connor carefully sat up. He got out of bed as he slowly walked to Murphy's bed and Murphy looked up at him.
"I have t'piss," Murphy said.
Hearing footsteps, Connor looked at the first women as she pointed to the oxygen mask then at Murphy then at the blue button on the wall and Connor nodded. He placed the oxygen mask over Murphy's nose and mouth then pushed the blue button as Smecker, Eunice and Sibeal entered the room and Smecker looked at him.
"What's going on?" Paul asked.
"Will all of you please leave?" the first woman asked.
"Is there something wrong with Murphy?" Sibeal asked as he walked to Connor and Sibeal saw Murphy's eyes were barely opened.
"What you're doing?" Paul asked as he walked to her, but he didn't see Murphy close his eyes.
"Agent Smecker?! Aren't you supposed t'be dead!?" Connor asked.
"He faked his death," Eunice said as she walked to Smecker and Connor looked at her.
"Agent Bloom?"
"Hey."
"Look, I need to do this before…," the first young woman said when she noticed the wet stain moving over the sheet and Connor snorted a laugh.
"Did Murphy just wet the bed?" Eunice asked as her eyes widened.
"Yes, he did."
Sibeal and Eunice softly laughed as the first young woman noticed a blush moving across Murphy's cheeks and Connor smiled, knowing how easily his brother gets embarrassed.
"Let's go," Paul said. Connor watched Smecker, Eunice and Sibeal leave the room while the first young woman went to get some clean sheets, a new pee pad and a hospital gown and Murphy sighed, barely shaking his head.
"Sorry," Murphy grumbled after Connor removed the oxygen mask.
"That's alright," she said when she returned to the bed and she placed the clean sheets, the new pee pad and the hospital gown on the small table near the bed. "Let's get you clean up. '
Smecker had told one of the nurses what happened as the nurse walked in the room and she helped get Murphy out of bed, clean him off and change the bed and the pee pad. The first young woman whispered for her to not say anything about Murphy being awake and the nurse nodded before leaving the room.
"Ok, back to bed," the first young woman said. She helped Murphy back into bed when she checked the bandage around his left calf then she moved the sheet up to his lower chest and they were startled by a low moan.
"Was that you?" Connor asked, looking at Murphy.
"Nope," Murphy said then he turned his head to look over at Romeo's bed. The first young lady walked to the bed when she looked down and Romeo's eyes were open.
