Chapter 1: Man or Beast

The sound of a blaring alarm sounding off the instant it reached its fixed time came to rebereated loudly throughout the confines of a small room that if possible the residents in the next building over could have heard.

Though the sounds itself proved to be even more painstakingly to the ears to the twitching forms that moved around the covers from the bed next to the nightstand that held the small ringing device.

No sooner did the alarm come to life than it was quickly snuffed out by the quickness of a small fur hand that clicked the center button with quite the force that a resounding thud of the wooden barrister followed afterward.

"Why do you have the world's loudest alarm?" Said a very annoyed voice as she pulled her arm back into the confines of the sheet.

"Don't blame me, blame my brother for getting it for me in the first place" Replied a voice this time that of a male."If you want you can take it up with him if you don't like the sound"

"Very funny"

"You're the one who asked," The male voice said as he moved the covers over him to reveal the form of a blonde-haired teenager smiling cheekily at the person on top of him."Besides is about time you got up the last thing you want is the guys here to see you leave"

"I thought you didn't care about what others thought"

"I don't," He said getting off from bed half-naked with only a pair of briefs covering his modesty."But the less chatter I get the better is for me not to have him on my case the better I'll be for me to be left alone"

"Still can't believe the Academy still hasn't thrown you out for the things you've done," She said as she removed the coverings of the blanket to reveal the small-tone body of a rabbit.

"Name at least one thing you think makes me unfit to be part of the prestigious academy of Cherryton" Posing as if he were in deep thought with a hand under his chin while sporting a contemplating expression.

"If I could we both would be here all day"

"Now don't be too harsh on me Mizu" Quickly sitting next to the black and white harlequin rabbit and placing an open arm next to her. "If I weren't here then else would be here to treat you the way I do" Running her left shoulder up and down slowly.

"Don't Mizu me" Getting up from the bed she herself half-naked but to the extent of only having black-laced panties and no bra. Something that greatly enhanced the sight of her pink colored nipples pointed out from under black and white fur,due to the rays of light hitting them from the blinders.

Something that the blonde silently cherished as she continued to talk.

"Are you even listening to me?"

"Yeah, something to do with stuff…."

"God if you weren't a human then I would have assumed you to be a dog in how you act at times" She huffed out as she turned to get dressed.

"Some of my best friends are dogs" He chimed back as he saw her pick up her clothing watching as she bent over making the tight underwear that clung to her backside ride up a bit.

"That explains a lot" Putting up her white skirt around her waist and reaching down to pick up her white bra that was thrown to the floor from last night's activities."I don't know why you always have to hang around those guys there nothing but a couple of horn dogs

The moment she did the feeling of a heavy weight hit her back while two steady arms circled around her midsection as well as the feeling of the guy's chin being placed on her shoulder with his mouth close to her ear.

"Be it beast or human, you know that we both enjoy what we get up to together" Biting lightly on her ear that twitched a bit."Don't you think so Mizuchi?"

"You…..Pervert" Sporting a growing blush as she could feel his hands move around her stomach gently.

"Yeah...but am your pervert aren't I" Slowly grinding against the plumb exterior as the swelling of his erection grew quickly at the feeling of her soft fur hitting his skin.

"We'll…. do it later but not right now" Now huffing a bit at the sensation of his erection rubbing against her resulting in her bucking against it instantly."I got to leave before the rest of the dorm wakes up" Struggling to raise her voice to object but couldn't as the menstruation of the blond's hips kept thrusting with a bit of force with each movement.

Something that wasn't helping the situation any better. But all certain moments had to come to an end once the sound of the school's bell rang out throughout the campus.

"Fine" Exiting the embrace begrudgingly as he really enjoyed the touch of her fur on his body."But I'll hold you do your word" Sitting back down on the bed as he saw Mizu finally putting her uniform shirt together with the slip-on shoes.

"Now don't get too worked up over it. You know I mean it" Adjusting the collar of the neckline."Either way today's gonna be a long day am sure of it"

"What makes you say that?"

"Because as president as my club me and the rest of the class presidents are going to prepare for the annual Meteor Festival"

"Oh, that," The blond said as he scratched the back of his head."Why the rush?. The festival doesn't start for months. Hell is still the Fall semester"

"What's the rush?" A bit peeved at the nonchalant response."The Meteor Festival is one of the most important traditions that the school partakes each year, and not just that but an important remembrance for our ancestors"

"Your ancestors maybe but not mine"

"We all share the same ancestors regardless of species," She remarked sternly from the lack of awareness coming from the whiskered blond."Is important to pay tribute to our distant ancestors in giving us the gift of life"

"Sorry to break it to yeah, but I don't know if you noticed but as humans don't really carry the same type of genes who guys claim to have"

"You know what I mean" Not really want to get into this type of discussion while the clock continued to tick signifying the time being wasted."I don't want to debate with yout about the origins of life, because I really have to get going" Giving herself a quick look over in the closet mirror before walking up to still sitting blonde.

"Let's just get this day behind us and hopefully we can talk later" Landing a small kiss on the top of his head before quickly making herself to the door and opening it quietly.

"See you later Naruto"

"You to Mizu"

With that, the sound of a door closing was the sound made as Naruto sat on the bed pondering what to do next. Before starting at the alarm clock seeing that another minute was already marked down.

"Well better start to get ready before it's too late"

He was soon out of bed as he headed towards the bathroom to freshen up before heading out to start what looked to be another typical day of attending Cherryton Boarding School.

(30 Minutes Later, Outside)

Walking outside the building of the dorm he automatically shielded his eyes from the rays of the sun that beaming down strongly. By the feel of the air, he could almost feel the type of weather that was in store for the rest of the day.

"Looks like is going to be a hot one today" Wiping the budding droplets of sweat starting to build upon his brow."God is must be especially killer for those with a ton of fur and those smaller than us" Watching as the rest of the students from nearby the dorms started to exist their respective dwellings as the sound of conversing voices could start to be heard coming from all sides.

Students of all shapes and sizes started to mingle with each other either on the steps of the school dorms or on their walks towards their classes as an array of spices of animals and humans mixed together

Sheeps, goats, lizards, mice, camels, tigers, leopards, giraffes, dogs, and humans just like him walked together with a purpose in mind as they interacted with one another. As if this was a common routine for all of them to partake in.

The sight itself almost brought a smile to the blond in how natural they all acted but soon had to let the smile drop once the image of his father briefly popped out inside his mind.

"Of all the things to start the morning with and have his image on my mind" He mused as he perched himself on one of the concrete steps of the front building."Really need to stop having that bother me all the time"

"Bother you with what?"

The voice caught him surprise as he turned to his left to spot a white-furred alpaca standing there wearing a blue Cardigan under a white t-shirt complete only with its beige khaki pants on top of a pair of brown dockers.

"Hey there Tem"

"Morning Naruto" Continuing to stand in place albeit now a bit closer to the blond."What were you talking about?"

"Just about how hot the weather is this morning"

"Yeah, it's really blistering today" Holding a hand to his forehead as he looked up to the sky."You think for the Fall season I'll be a bit cooler"

"You're telling me" Looking at his friend who seemed to be building quite the sweat under the rays of the sun."Must be murder under all that fur"

"I'll manage"

"Surprise to see you're not already in class. Your always the first one before anyone else"

"Thought I'll give myself some time to relax a bit after the work I put in for yesterday's homework assignment."

"Oh my" Putting up a face of mock surprise."Is the sound of juvenile speech coming from the school's own very golden scout. Why I never would have thought that I'll ever bear witness to"

"Haha. Very funny" Replying to his comment with the roll of his eyes."That's rich coming from the guy who doesn't take his studies too serious and ends up having his ear chewed off by the teachers"

"Not every teacher on campus hates me. Just most of them"

"Then name at least one personel of the school's staff that can stomach your shenanigans" He countered."And former teachers don't count"

"Now your just being mean"

"I think your shell is hard enough to handle it," He said as he sat next to the human blond on the hard steps as students continued to walk back-and-forth between the dorms around them.

"You always know how to make a person feel bad Tem"

"Only to you Naruto only to you" The cheeky alpaca replied back." Besides that whole golden boy scout thing really gets under my skin"

"Because you are one" Staring at his sitting companion."That's sorta the reputation you have around school. Always been the type of person who is the embodiment of what a school wants from a student"

"Yeah I know, but it just gets too overbearing having to hear all the time" Huffing at the recollection of some of the experiences he went through with some of the other students because of it."It makes me feel as though am somebody that can get pushed around by others wanting to take advantage of me. Especially from the carnivores of the school"

"Then don't let yourself get pushed around by them. Stand your ground against them and tell them you're not the type of person who gets kicked around" Naruto said as he looked at the furred-covered student."

"That's easy for you to say. Am not built with your type of confidence to even muster sort of statement against some student bigger than me"

"I don't mean physically. What I mean is for you to use the skills that you have inside of you to use it against the people who see you as easy pickings"

"How can I outsmart someone who is bigger and stronger than me?" Tem said as he scrunched up his eyes in deep thought in what the human meant.

"Is up to you to decide that Tem, not me"

"Gee, that really helps to solve my problem" Giving him a blank expression over the response given to him.

"Don't mention it. What are friends for" Grinning ear to ear at the face that Tem got on his face.

"Yeah...friends"

"..."

"..."

"I think it may be time for us to be heading off to school" Said Tem as he got off the steps and patted the back of his pants to clear any dirt that attached itself to his back end."If you get there with me then probably the teacher won't put on the spot again"

"Yeah. I guess you're right" Now standing himself on the spot making for a stark difference in height between the two.

Where Tem stood at a height of 4'8, Naruto easily dwarfed that by standing at least 6'2. Though even with the height itself paled in comparison to others who could easily tower over him if placed right alongside one of them.

He then noticed the dorm next to the human one had a bit of commotion coming from a group of canines talking with each other in a highly animated conversation. He couldn't help but raise a brow over the type of members that constituted said, group.

The first one, and one that was hard to ignore was that of a large grey wolf that stood the tallest within the crowd. He walked with his hands inside his pockets with his back slouched down a bit as he rode alongside the rest of the posse of canines. Though the group was highly animated with all the banter they were having with each other, he alone stood quiet with only the occasional nodding of his head once in a while that showed any indication of his involvement in what they were talking about. But all in all his only focus was what was in front of him as he walked with eyes sharp with concentration and awareness.

"Truly the eyes of a predator," The whiskered student thought as he continued to look on

The dress of his uniform was that of a common Cherryton student dress code with the usual brown vest and white dress shirt like the rest of the group wore; together with dark grey pants that had also contained a splash of grey vertical stripes on them.

The rest of the company as followed was that of a white English sheepdog whose entire body was completely covered in fur that was unruly to the point of having an abundance of disheveled fringes of hair covering his eyes.

If the grey wolf stood out among the group for being tall then the one carried by the English breed was the smallest of them all as he stood at a stature of 1'4. The fennec fox had with him a distinct light-colored brown fur and large ears making him noticeable as he sat on the shoulders of the messily-haired dog. The way he was hoisted on the shoulders made him think of the smaller students at the academy.

The thought of being crushed by some of the taller students made him wonder what it felt like for the smaller alumni who barely reached the height of a doorknob to experience the world around them. The more he thought about it the more it seemed as though it would be a living nightmare having to worry each day about the possibility of being stepped on.

But knew not to dwell too much on that type of morbid

The next one was that of a tan coat coyote with brown fur and a dark color snot that was in deep talks with another canine similar build but who was a spotted hyena that was covered in brown spots, a color that was the same as the fur that layered his ears, thorax, feet, and tail.

Both seemed to have a closer relationship with each other given how animated they were in their talking.

The last person of the group that also caught his interest was one of the more polish looking of the group, and one that was standing next to the wolf as they walked. What made him stand out was not because of his golden fur that fitted his golden retriever breed, but how he carried himself when interacting with the grey wolf.

"Must be on better terms than the rest" He muttered under his breath as he saw them get near to where he was standing.

"What was that, Naruto?" Asked Tem from his side

"Oh, nothing really important" His body relaxing a bit as the group of dogs passed by the building steps they were at"Just thinking about class"

"Well that's a first"

"I guess today is just filled with surprises" Still not breaking eye contact.

Tem not really buying what his friend said noticed the direction that he was looking at and was surprised at how deep in concentration human was.

"The canines from room 701 caught your eye?" The sheep asked as the dogs were finally out of sight.

"Is that what the group is called?"

"Well, unofficially by the rest of the academy. It just that there called that because there always scene together every morning when heading to class and it giving that their all canines related breeds living in the same dorm works in the nickname's favor"

"You don't say" Now starting his own trek to class followed by Tem on his side."First time am ever hearing about them"

"No shocker their giving how lazy you are to put yourself out there to the rest of the school"

"I do put myself out there"

"Not in the way that I would go by it"

"How so?"

"You know…."Not sure how to phrase it without sounding off strong."What other people say about your…..relations"

"Ah, that" Realizing what he was getting at."Doesn't really bother me as much"

"It doesn't?"

"Yep" Saying it with no hesitation."I don't see why it would matter to me what other people think about the things I get into"

"If you say so"

"Why do you ask?"

"Is was just some of the things that I've been hearing through passing periods"

"Just a bunch of white noise" Waving his hand around to prove his point."Nothing but baseless gossip to them"

Seeing that the topic of discussion was not something that the blond wanted to further talk about, Tem chose to change it to something else.

"Anyway, the only one I know from the group is the tallest member" Seeing that the school's building was already coming onto view up in the distance."I think his name is Legoshi"

"So that's the name of the wolf"

"Yeah, he's also part of the theater club and works as a member of the production crew" Narrowing his eyes in remembering what else he knows about the wolf."I've only ever talked to him a couple of times during rehearsals, but most of the time he's pretty much quite"

"Figures. He kinda looks like the loner type"

"I wouldn't peg him as one, but at the same time he really doesn't speak unless spoken to," Tem said as they got near the front gates leading into the courtyard."Why you ask?"

"Just wondering" Before changing the conversation."Speaking of theater class, how's it going in asking out Els?"Wriggling his eyebrows playfully and having a wide grin on his face as he saw the immense blush spread across his friend's cheeks.

"S-s-shut up!"

The response the blond gave out was just a loud laugh that caught some of the passer-by students walking by them in complete surprise and in Tem over the red complexion he had as a result.

"Sorry" Still laughing though not as much as before."Couldn't help myself wanting to see the type of face you'll make"

"Not funny dude" Having a clear-cut blush expression on his face.

"Fine, fine" Holding his hands up in the air in mock surrender."I'll drop it"

"I wished I could take back telling you about Els" Regretting ever sharing that piece of information to his human friend of the crush he had."The last thing I wanted was for you to remind about that every day"

"And that was your mistake"

"Now I know better" Crossing his arms on his chest still peeved.

Both now standing at the front gates of the courtyard and noticing the time of the clock tower from the center building almost about to go off within the next couple of minutes.

"Anyway, we should start hurrying up to class. Mr. Mclaurin is not gonna be in the mood if you show up after the first bells"

"Fine, but if she asks if we get there late, then am just gonna say that it was your fault" Starting to pick up the pace as they entered the school grounds.

"I doubt she'll believe you"

"We won't know until we get there"

Both friends soon took off with a spring to their steps as they went along to class with one not looking forward to it, while the other was hoping that his friend would take things more seriously, but knew that was asking too much.

"But given who his father is I hope that change happens sooner than later" Tem pondered as he continued to walk quickly to keep a close pace with Naruto.

Feeling as though today would be an especially long day, but could not shake the feeling as though something was waiting to happen. And the troubling part was that he did not know if it was heading towards something good, or something truly bad.

But for now, he shook those thoughts from his head and went back to trying to catch up to his friend.

End of Chapter 1

A shorter chapter than what I am usually accustomed to, but I think is at least a good starting point for me to have a clear idea of how to approach this fic. I find introductory chapters difficult to write as it is the introduction to where the story may go.

The world of Beastars that I chose to go with this one was to populate a setting where both humans and animals coexist with each other to offer a different perspective on some of the themes of the series other than the issue of prey and predators. I'll offer more context to it as the story unfolds.

Now that the year is almost over, I'm gonna start with one more chapter for Saints and Sinners that I hope to get done either by Christmas, or New Year's Eve.
