I groaned as I opened my eyes, my head still throbbing in pain. I squinted at the bright sunlight pouring through the window in the room and stinging my eyes. I winced in pain, as I tried to get up from the bed and into a more comfortable sitting position. I groaned and put my head in my hands.
Gods, that hurt like shit. I would not recommend Time-Travel to anyone any day soon.
As I was planning to take note of my surroundings, I heard a giggle. I snapped my head around in search of the sound but almost fell back in pain from a head rush. I grunted in agony as the throbbing became louder and louder until it eventually started to slow out and finally stop.
I took a deep breath, trying to clear my head from the torment, and looked up again to take register my surroundings. The room I was in was vaguely familiar with its bluish-gray walls and a plain desk at the corner.
Where am I?
'You are in your dorm, Percy', I heard someone speaking in my head.
I shrieked and nearly fell out of my bed in surprise. I heard someone snicker.
'Don't do that! I almost had a heart attack' I scolded the voice, still sprawled on the floor.
'Oh shut up you big baby. You are perfectly fine, right?. Or should I call Artemis here to make you feel better?' the voice teased.
I blushed crimson but manage to squeak out, 'How do you know about that? And for that matter, who are you?'
'W-WHAT!?', this time another voice spluttered indignantly, 'You mean you didn't remember us?' The voice seemed positively appalled I forgot them.
'Um...sorry? I really don't know what is happening right now. Who are you?' I was getting more and more freaked out by the second by the creepy voices.
The voices seemed to sense my agitation and started whispering calming things into my mind. Eventually, I started calming down under the smooth and soft words of the voices. My breathing finally evened out as I closed my eyes in exhaustion.
After a while, the first voice asked, 'Percy, what is the last thing you remember?'
I frowned as I tried to remember my last memory. I hesitated, 'I remember about my death from the attack in the hunter's camp. After that, I remember some bits and pieces about a...throne room?' I questioned.
The voice seemed to nod. 'Yes, Percy you were in a throne room and-wait why don't I just give you your memories back?' The voice pondered.
I rolled my eyes, 'Yes, that would be much more convenient.' I snarked.
The second voice giggled and the first voice chided, 'Don't use that tone on me, young man.'
'Yes, mom' I grumbled.
An abrupt dash of memories transpired through my brain.
Chaos...Nyx...Time travel...Artemis...Primordials.
Everything came back to me and I fell to my knees at the sudden rush of memories.
Now, everything made much more sense. Suddenly, a thought occurred to me. If Chaos and Nyx had agreed to be 'guides' of sorts to me for this journey then that meant... I groaned, 'I believe that is you, Chaos and Nyx?'
The two giggled and cheered, 'Yep!'
'Oh gods...'
I paused and frowned. 'Where is Artemis, by the way, and why isn't anyone here in the dorm?' I questioned
Nyx thought for a second before replying, 'Artemis is probably not awake yet. You are awake first because we provided you with the mental shields whereas she, on the other hand, had to use her own, so is likely much more exhausted. As for why is no one here, there is. Your satyr friend is just outside the door. Chronus has stopped time for you and Artemis for adjusting to these...different circumstances'
I snorted, 'Different alright.'
Nyx just seemed to shrug.
I shook my head and asked, 'So, what time am I exactly in? Like, before or after the Alecto fiasco?'
'Oh, this is 2 weeks before the museum incident. We thought you might want to show Chiron and the Satyr you're not completely stupid. You can make fun of them in your Latin class.' Nyx suggested.
I smirked mischievously, 'Oh, definitely. They're gonna pay for keeping me in the dark for so long.'
Nyx yelled in approval and excitement. Chaos rolled her eyes.
'So, when is Chronus gonna resume the time?' I asked. Chaos hummed and answered, 'As of right now Artemis is waking up and we're explaining everything to her. Huh, she has much fewer questions than you. You are a sea-weed brain after all.' She teased.
I flushed but asked, 'So can I talk to Artemis right now?' Chaos seemed to shake her head. 'Not now Percy. I am sorry but you can only talk to her after the museum trip.'
I frowned. 'Why? I mean why specifically that time?'
Nyx grimaced. 'Sorry Perce. You have to trust us on this one. I know you are dying to meet your girlfriend, but it is too risky, right now.'
I blushed. 'She is not my girlfriend' I yelled. "...yet..." I muttered under my breath. Of course, the ever-obnoxious diety of Night heard that.
'Aww Percy that is so cute!' Nyx squealed. I covered my ears in pain and shouted, "Gods Nyx, you sound like Aphrodite right now.' Chaos giggled and Nyx pouted at the comparison.
Chaos cleared her throat. 'Percy, we have spoken with Artemis and she understands the situation. Though I must say, the first thing she asked for after waking up, was you.' Chaos said with a sly smile, which made me blush, and Nyx snicker before she turned serious, 'Also, under no circumstances should you two be seen together. You can talk with each other once a week via IM until the trip. You will be questioned by the gods if you are caught together. You can't even let Grover or Chiron spot you.' She said sternly.
'Yeah, it will mess everything up.' Nyx piped in.
I sighed deeply but nodded in confirmation. 'Also', she took a deep breath and continued, 'Wewillbeleavingyoualonefortwoweeks!' She blurted out quickly.
'What? Sorry, I didn't quite catch that...' I drawled.
Nyx sighed and expressed, 'We have to leave for our duties. We cannot be in contact with you for two weeks. It is for your safety. We will talk again only after you reach camp.' She spoke in short sentences as if I was a ten-year-old.
"WHAT?!" I yelled, "WHY?"
Chaos winced but started explaining. 'Percy, us contacting you enhances your scent. We are extremely powerful beings with tremendous auras. Our auras at their purest can level any country on Gaea. When you were summoned to the throne room, we were greatly suppressing our auras. The force that you felt in our vicinity was just a mere fraction of our flared power. Talking with you in your mind, we have to be careful to limit our subconscious powers greatly lest you were to burn to ashes. Even right now, our mere presence in your mind is enough to alert any monster in a five-mile radius.' I started to speak but Nyx quickly interrupted me.
'Yes, Percy you can take these monsters on yourself, but that will put mortals in danger. Moreover, Chiron will sense the difference in your aura once the monsters start attacking. He will suspect something and if he takes this to Olympus, you will be in trouble.'
I was upset, but I could see where they were coming from. I reluctantly agreed. Yes, I would be terribly bored, but I couldn't let the mortals suffer because of that. Moreover, it would hinder the chances of success of this 'quest'.
The two primordials quickly said their goodbyes and left. Literally. Like I could feel them leaving my head. It was creepy.
As soon as they left, I felt the time spell break and the doors flew open to reveal a satyr friend of mine.
Grover, in all his squeaky glory, barged in and looked around the dorm, until his eyes met mine and he sighed in relief.
"Oh thank gods you're awake. Now, hurry up Perce! We're gonna be late to Brunner's class!" He shouted while scrambling to collect his books.
I quickly got up and went over my schedule at my bunk. It seemed Latin was the first class of the day, followed by Pre-algebra, Calculus, and then lunch.
"Bla-ha-ha, what're you doing Percy, we're gonna be late!". Grover bleated.
I barely managed to keep a straight face while collecting my books as I heard my best-friend's nervous bleat after so many years. I tried to find my notes but couldn't remember where I'd put them. I called out to Grover. "Hey, G-man, do you know where my notes are?"
Grover looked at me and gave me a weird look. "Are you alright, Percy?"
I shrugged nonchalantly, "Why wouldn't I be?"
Grover stared at me for a second longer before reaching out to the stack of papers on the drawers next to me.
"Thanks"
"Don't mention it."
And with that, we rushed out of our dorms to reach Chiron's Latin class, hopefully on time.
I honestly didn't remember the way to the class so I just followed Grover. After a bit of maneuvering through the corridors, we finally arrived at a familiar-looking classroom and barged inside.
The class was almost full, filled with the snotty students I remembered from the last time. Grover and I made our way to our seats, my eyes searching for a familiar redhead.
And there she was!
Nancy Bobofit noticed me looking at her and sent an evil sneer towards me. I just flashed her a charming smile. Her glare faltered but regained the intensity (though less than before) soon and her cheeks colored. I groaned mentally. I didn't need any more people who had a crush on me. Plus she was mortal so it would be extremely dangerous for her. Even if she was my bully, I wouldn't wish that.
I settled down on an empty chair next to Grover and opened my books.
After a few minutes of waiting, the door opened and in came the famous trainer of heroes.
"Good Morning, class!" He greeted cheerily.
The class mumbled out a half-hearted 'good morning' in response.
He took out his book and started teaching.
I very nearly fell out of my seat laughing when he started teaching about 'Chiron'. Oh, this was golden. I would be able to tease him without actually mocking him. I smirked mischievously as I thought over my plan. I looked over to see Chiron explaining about himself. "Chiron was the trainer of the greatest of heroes such as Hercules, Achilles and-"
"Um sir" I interrupted. "Chiron was a satyr right?" I asked innocently.
Grover choked on his spit as Chiron gaped at me. He quickly regained his senses and shook his head vehemently. "Chiron was NOT a satyr. He was a centaur, a half-man, half-horse. Satyrs are nature spirits formed from the blood of Ouranos and are half-man and half-goat. Why did you think Chiron was a satyr, Mr. Jackson?" He asked with a curious look.
I was about to reply when Nancy suddenly cut me off, "Oh please! Why are we even learning about these gods and nature spirits anyway? It's not like they're even real." she said in a condescending tone.
I fake nodded. "Exactly Mr. Brunner, it's not like these gods can actually exist? If they were real, wouldn't there be any demi-gods or monsters or titans?"
Thunder boomed in the background. I rolled my eyes. Zeus. What a drama-queen.
Someone spoke from the back. "What if they do exist?"
I scoffed, "Are you serious? If they exist then Grover is a satyr and Mr. Brunner is Chiron." I mocked.
The duo stared at me in disbelief. I just smirked mischievously at them and they snapped out of their shock.
Chiron cleared his throat and started speaking about how gods still influenced America in the form of architecture and culture. The whole time, his eyes were on me, looking at my reaction. I just stared at him with an emotionless mask the whole time. I think he was unnerved by my stare because he refused to meet my eyes after that.
I glanced sideways to see Grover whose lower lips were still trembling. I giggled at how uneasy the two looked for the rest of the day.
The days passed quickly after that. I seemed to get in trouble a lot less. Even Ms. Dodds was slightly discouraged at how confident I looked. Maybe she did not expect Hades to get her to stalk a normal-ish, non-troubled kid. I started doing better and better at tests and especially Latin and Greek. Even Nancy was becoming less cold and more friendly, which frankly I wasn't sure I liked. Sure, she was cute, but I didn't want to get attached due to her being a mortal.
I know Chiron was scratching his head at how did I change from an awkward dumb twelve-year-old to a less awkward, confidant, and much smarter twelve-year-old. Even my dyslexia wasn't bothering me too much. Maybe because of the blessings.
I IMed Artemis a few times to just talk and have company, which she was more than ready to provide. We talked about how we could improve the current timeline and maybe speed up everything. We had a rough plan but we decided to hold it out until we could confirm it with Chaos.
She mainly talked to me about her hunts and how all the recruits were faring in her killer-maiden-warrior-group.
I nearly lost it when she told me she cried and hugged Zoe for an hour after she woke up and saw her. I, in turn, told her how I made Grover and Chiron lose their shit and how my bully probably had a crush on me.
She laughed at that but growled when I told her about Nancy. I frowned at her behavior but then shrugged. Maybe it was nothing.
And just like that, the two weeks came to an end and we were given slips to visit the Metropolitan Museum to 'study' graeco-roman artifacts.
Back in the dorm, I was just laying on my bed and thinking about how I could improve the timeline and defeat Kronos without a war when Grover trotted to our bunk. He gave me a smile which I returned.
I remembered the time when I woke up at night to go to the bathroom when I saw that Grover's fake feet had fallen off while he was sleeping and his hooves were on display. I had rolled my eyes fondly and ignored it, just chuckling at my best friend's goof.
Gods, I still wondered how dense I was to not notice that Grover was a satyr.
"You are going on the trip, right? It's gonna be fun." Grover questioned. snapping me out of my musings. I nodded my head cheerily.
"Oh, you have no idea."
Yep, here it is, the fourth chapter. I'll probably update Acceptance tomorrow or the day after.
Hopefully, you enjoyed reading this chapter. Please review.
