So...Legalt reviewed about the inappropriate use of 'bipolar' in the summary and how it could be considered as an insult. So...yeah, I would like to apologize if it was offensive and I have changed it now. So...yeah, sorry about that.
Thanks for reviewing, by the way :)
Sacrilege! Blasphemy!
How dare the Fates subject me to the same dreams! I've come back to save the world again and they refuse to show me pleasant dreams of me frolicking in the corals?!
Instead, I have to endure the same nightmare about murderous livestock! How is the world so unfair?!
It was unspeakably boring to rewatch Kronos bitching about the 'selfish' and 'pathetic' Gods again. At least I found his anger at my nonchalance on the whole subject amusing. His cry of frustration and indignance was loud enough to wake me up for good.
My eyes fluttered open slowly, squinting hugely to adjust to the bright light.
"What will happen at the summer solstice?", a familiar voice questioned. My eyes focused on a pair of intimidating grey eyes and princess blonde curls over me, holding a bowl of Ambrosia with a spoon in her hand.
I groaned. Oh gods, I would have to deal with curious Annabeth once more. I put my hands on my face and moaned in submission at her curiosity.
"Water?" I croaked out through my parched throat. Her eyes widened at my voice as she scrambled to get up and bring me my life-source. I almost laughed at her rushing to get a jug of water. Clearly, she didn't expect me to wake up and have coherent thoughts this soon.
Then again, knowing Annabeth, she would have wished for me to be drowsy, so she could quench her insatiable thirst for knowledge by getting honest answers from me.
'Wow, Percy, I must admit you know her well', A voice quipped in my head.
Now, I admit, I was getting used to hearing voices of deities popping out in my head at the most random of times, it still was hella weird for me.
I squeaked in surprise at the sound, which led to a curious yet amused snort courtesy of Annabeth. "Here you go." She said, handing me a glass of water. I muttered a 'thanks' and downed the glass, my parched throat feeling rejuvenated from the water.
'Artemis? Was that you?' I asked excitedly.
She laughed at my enthusiasm before replying, 'Damn, Percy, I didn't know you were this excited to see me', she teased.
I blushed a bit. 'According to Nyx, I wasn't the only one', I shot back.
'W-what-I don't-No', she spluttered her words briefly before composing herself and letting out a childish, 'Shut up'
I snickered. 'Eloquent'
'Where are Chaos and Nyx, by the way?', I questioned with a frown.
Normally, Nyx would've piped up with a peppy remark, but she seemed silent. So, either, she had inexplicably matured (unlikely) or she, along with Chaos, was absent.
Artemis seemed to shrug, 'I don't know. They said it was an important event they had to attend on their planet.'
'They lied', I deadpanned.
Artemis blinked. 'What?'
'They aren't attending some super important event. They're celebrating Halloween and trick-or-treating', I said nonchalantly.
Artemis blinked once, then twice. '...right..'
I snickered at her eloquence. Or lack thereof. She just huffed and ignored me. I was about to torment her more but I remembered Annabeth was still observing me. I turned to her and saw her give me a weird look. I suppose I would too if saw a kid just blushing and laughing randomly like an idiot. I stared at her for a minute, blinking owlishly (hehe pun) as she studied me.
"What?" I demanded. She just shook her head and asked, "How're you feeling?"
"Uh...alright I guess. But where am I? Who are you?" I asked, feigning confusion and putting on my best 'confused baby seal' face.
She smiled a bit. "Your name is Percy, is it not?" I nodded. "Hi, Percy. My name is Annabeth. You are in the infirmary of Camp Half-blood. What is the last thing you remember, Percy?"
I was a little miffed she was talking to me like I was a seven-year-old but answered nevertheless. "I remember fighting the Minotaur and dragging Grover across the property line. Our car exploded and the minotaur was chasing us for some reason." I took a deep breath. "My mom, is she-" I choked on my words. I knew she was going to be returned to me, however, it still hurt, watching her disappear, that too after reuniting with her.
'Don't worry Perseus. We'll get your mom back. You're not alone in this', Artemis promised.
'Thank you, Artemis', I said sincerely. 'It means a lot'
I focused on Annabeth, who gave me a sympathetic glance. "I'm sorry Percy, but she..." she trailed off sadly. I took a minute to compose myself, before remembering Grover.
"Is Grover okay? Oh gods, he was unconscious when I dragged him in. I would kill myself if something happened to him-" I started hyperventilating for some added effect when Annabeth put a hand on my shoulder and started murmuring soothing words. "Calm down Percy, Grover is perfectly fine. He is in no danger right now and for all we know, he could be waiting for you outside."
I started 'calming' down and asked, "Is he gonna be okay?"
Annabeth bit her lip and sighed sadly and whispered, "I don't know Percy, he is currently being held up by The Council of Cloven Elders because of his assignment. I just want to smack them and get it through their thick skulls, what happened wasn't his fault..." Annabeth trailed off.
I had to bite back a smile at the familiar antics of my past/future best friend to just get lost in her thoughts going a mile an hour.
I just nodded dumbly like I didn't know what it meant and took a deep breath. "So, what is this Camp Half-blood?" I asked confusedly, getting up from my cot and limping outside with Annabeth beside me.
'I must say, your theatrical skills are impressive, Perseus', Artemis complimented. I blushed slightly and muttered a 'thanks' before focusing on Annabeth.
She had a wistful smile on her face as she opened the infirmary doors and breathed in the air deeply. She announced.
"This...is Camp Half-blood"
I grinned and took the familiar scene before me in. The campers fighting at the arena, Silena with the pegasi in the stables, Katie and her siblings at the fields, and the satyrs trudging along with the dryads. Yep, home sweet home.
'You must love this place, huh?', questioned Artemis.
'Oh, you don't know about it. This was essentially my home after the Titan War. Seeing it again after...everything happened, just brought up good memories and reconciliations', I said wistfully.
Camp Half-blood was abandoned in the original timeline. Gaea, after winning, the first thing that the hag did was destroying Thalia's pine. With the magical border gone, the camp was no longer safe for the demigods and hence the legendary camp for heroes was left to decay under the 'care' of monsters. All of the Half-bloods were devasted to leave their home but after the capture of Hecate, no one had magic potent enough to erect a new barrier.
I was snapped out of musings when a concerned Annabeth shook my shoulder.
"H-huh what?"
"Are you alright, Percy? You were strangely...nostalgic when you saw the camp." Annabeth asked with narrowed eyes.
I smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, it's just that I haven't had a proper family in a long while, and watching everyone together..." I trailed off.
Annabeth's eyes softened considerably as Artemis mock scowled, 'I resent that, Percy'
'I'm just joking, Arty. You know the hunters are my family too. I'm so thankful for everything you've all done for me after Gaea. You all saved me and gave me a home. Especially you, Arty. Even when the hunters, save for Thalia, ostracised me, you were always there for me', I said softly.
I could feel Artemis's cheeks burning with embarrassment from all the compliments. I smiled to myself as Annabeth took my arm and led me to the big house.
I blinked as a sudden thought washed over. Was it just me...or was Annabeth being nice to me? Oh gods, she was!
Until now, she hadn't commented on my drooling habits, or about me talking in my sleep. Come to think of it, she hadn't even pushed me to reveal anything about the winter solstice, or she wasn't even annoyed at my seemingly weird questions and she was patiently explaining everything!
Granted, she was treating me like I was a lost puppy (which, frankly, was annoying), but this wasn't supposed to happen! I pondered if Chiron had to do something with it, maybe he told her how I deduced everything and my elaborate plan. If there was something that the children of Athena admired, it was intellect, so I guess it made sense if she treated me like an actual newbie.
"So, Annabeth" I started. "Is this camp thingy the only safe place for demi-gods?"
Annabeth froze. "How did you know about demi-gods? Did Chiron tell you?"
Huh, I guess Chiron didn't tell her anything yet.
I shook my head, forming a lie. "No, I figured it out." I paused. "It honestly wasn't that difficult. All I had to do was eavesdrop on a conversation about Kindly Ones and everything made sense from there. I made a couple of taunts towards Alecto and Chiron and, based on their reactions I figured everything out." I shrugged.
'Liiees!', Artemis announced in a sing-song voice. I just chose to ignore her which made her huff, much to my amusement.
Annabeth blinked at me. "Are you sure your mother was mortal?" I winced at the use of past tense but nodded nevertheless. "Yeah, I'm certain. Though, I'm flattered you would consider me a son of Athena." I said wryly making her choke on her spit.
"What?", I rolled my eyes in annoyance. This was one thing I hated about the children of Athena. They and their godsdamned pride.
"C'mon, you'd think that being smart is a trait of a child of Athena, right?. While that might be true, but children of other gods can be just as observant if not more. In my case, I just see...things. I can connect the dots faster than average people, I guess. It may be a gift from Fates but that doesn't have to mean I'm your sibling."
That was literally the biggest lie I've ever uttered. Everyone, including myself, knows I'm dense as fuck.
Artemis snickered. 'I know right.'
'Haha'
I turned towards Annabeth who was staring at me suspiciously. "How did you know I was a daughter of Athena?" she challenged.
My eyes widened. Shit shit shit, did I say she was a daughter of Athena? Oh gods I did.
Artemis giggled at my twisted tongue.
"I-uh looked at your facial expressions." I started nervously. "When I said children of other deities can be smart too, you had this defiant expression on your face, like I was badmouthing Athena. Which I most definitely did not do-" I hastily added before the scary blonde could chew me out. "Also your eyes...well I read Athena's eyes were grey, so I kinda made a connection...?" I half asked-half said.
Her eyes narrowed as she tried to find any lies in my explanation, which should not have been difficult honestly. But I guess she had better things to do than question the words of a weird as fuck kid with no filter, so she just shrugged and led me towards the Big house.
'How on earth did that excuse work?', Artemis asked, bewildered.
I shrugged, 'You tell me'
I looked around us and smiled unknowingly. The landscape was dotted with buildings that looked like ancient Greek architecture. An open-air pavilion, an amphitheater, a circular arena except that they all looked brand new, their white marble column sparkling in the sun. In a nearby sandpit, a dozen high school-age kids and satyrs played volleyball. Canoes glided across a small lake. Kids in bright orange CHB T-shirts were chasing each other around a cluster of cabins.
Yep, just like the first time I was here.
'Drunkard alert!', Artemis chirped with fake enthusiasm.
I giggled silently when I saw a familiar porky individual with bloodshot eyes and pot-belly looking terribly bored as he shuffled pinochle cards.
"Hey, Grover!" I chirped when I saw my best friend standing nervously, chewing on a tin can, besides the Wine God.
His eyes snapped towards me and his face broke into a huge but shy grin, "Percy!"
He took a step towards me but faltered and nervously looked at Mr. D as if asking for permission. I rolled my eyes at his timidness in front of the drunkard and Artemis giggled.
Dionysus just waved his hand dismissively not even looking at the young satyr. "Eh...okay, whatever."
'I don't like my half-brother', Artemis pointed out.
'You're not the only one'
Grover, seemingly satisfied by the gesture, timidly trotted over to me, as if I was gonna start whaling on him. I rolled my eyes and pulled him into a hug.
He squeaked at the sudden gesture but returned the hug after some very awkward moments. "So...you're not mad at me?" He questioned weakly after I released him.
I glared at him. "We both know it wasn't your fault Grover. You may have been sent to protect me, but no other satyr would have the balls to even try to face a Fury and Minotaur. And my mother...wasn't your fault. If anything, it was mine. I was too weak to save her." I said sadly, facing the other way.
'PERSEUS ACHILLES JACKSON!', Artemis screeched. "How dare you take the blame upon yourself?! Is your head filled with rotten kelp? Her capture was NOT your fault, do you understand me? You already know she is going to be returned to you. So, stop blaming yourself or so help me, I WILL get you turned into glue!"
I blinked at her rant (Which was really hot by the way, not that I'd ever say that to her) before hastily agreeing with her assessment to curb any near future scoldings.
Artemis, seemingly satisfied with my reaction, nodded and went silent.
"Young man," Dionysus interjected. "You shouldn't go around throwing names. Names have power after all. Didn't they teach you anything", He scoffed.
I just rolled my eyes and ignored him. "Yeah sure, whatever."
Grover and Annabeth gasped at my blatant disregard of the god's statement as Dionysus narrowed his eyes at me. Artemis stifled a laugh at her half-brother's expression.
"Child-" He began in a warning tone, but I interrupted him again. "Where is Chiron by the way?" I questioned innocently. He blinked before growling. His eyes stared flickering purple, showing me the same visions of people slipping into insanity.
'How DARE he threaten you, Percy?', Artemis demanded. 'I will stick an arrow up his-'
'Jeez Arty relax, I'm okay', I laughed. 'I am blessed by two primordials. I think I can handle a drunk. Besides-', I said with a sly smirk. 'Why are you so protective of little old me?'
She spluttered. 'Wh-what? I'm n-not protective. I-uh, you're important to the fate of the world. Also, I just hate the male species', she paused as if realizing the implications of her words. 'Except you of course-', she hastily added.
I giggled. 'Smooth'
'S-shut up'
I just stared at Dionysus, deadpan as his glare and aura faltered. He looked absolutely bewildered at how easily I'd resisted him. I snickered silently at his agape expression. Even Artemis sounded amused by my shenanigans. (her words, not mine. I'd never say the word 'shenanigans')
"Percy, let's go. I'll introduce you to Chiron." Annabeth said hastily, not wishing for me to get toasted on my first day, while Grover was still cowering in the corner of the room.
I picked up the minotaur horn which Grover had placed beside me on one of the tables in the room and flipped it in my hands. "Sure, let's go. We wouldn't want to disturb the porky dude any more than necessary, eh?"
"Y-yes, c'mon Percy, Chiron is waiting," Annabeth said, her face still pale as she slowly walked out the door, dragging me by the arm. Grover followed us nervously, still glancing back at Dionysus, who was still glaring at me with his bloodshot eyes. I grinned cheekily and bowed mockingly. "It was an honor to meet you, oh great Lord Dionysus," I uttered sarcastically and bolted out the house, laughing, before the god could start another tantrum.
I stopped and looked around me to see several Hermes campers looking at me. "Ssup" I waved at them.
A couple of them waved back, while others were taken aback that I was not overwhelmed by the information that was just given to me. I scanned each of the campers until I found a familiar pair of blue eyes and sandy blonde hair, with a scar, running down his face.
'Castellan', Artemis snarled.
'Hey, let's not do anything rash, Arty', I started. 'He did save us by sacrificing us. Yes, I know he made some decisions that can't be forgiven, but it was the gods' ignorance towards their children, after all'
'Fine', Artemis relented. 'But you better hope he changes sides or him not having a dick will be the least of his problems.', she threatened.
I winced at the threat but agreed. 'I already have a plan to sway him to our side, Arty'
"Percy Jackson!", someone screamed.
I grimaced and turned around. "Hey, Annabeth"
She stormed towards me and slapped me. Hard.
"Oww!"
"You knew he was a God?! And still, you mocked him?! Are you trying to get killed, Jackson?", she hissed.
I held up my hands nervously. "Now, Annabeth, hehe, let's not do anything rash, okay. It's a habit of mine to piss of super-powerful immortals." I protested. "I even did this to Alecto and I'm still alive."
Annabeth just glared at me some more. "Fine." She relented. "But if you do this again, I will kill you", she snapped.
I nodded my head rapidly, not wishing to be on the receiving end of her wrath. 'Oh my, is the great Percy Jackson scared of the daughter of Athena?', Artemis teased.
'Oh, trust me, Kronos has got nothing on her' I shivered.
Artemis burst out in laughter, a melodious tinkling sound, that made me want to listen to it forever. Like a siren's song.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Grover tapped my shoulder. "Hey man, are you okay?" He asked, looking a bit concerned.
I frowned. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
He stared at me. "Because your eyes glazed over and you looked like you were in heaven."
Oh, you have no idea.
I wondered how would Grover react if he knew Artemis was my friend. I snickered remembering how he reacted the last time they met, during Westover. He would probably nut in his pants if he knew.
I cleared my throat awkwardly. "Yeah, um...let's meet Chiron?"
"Sure"
And with that, Annabeth and Grover led me to the archery arena where Chiron was teaching archery to the Demeter cabin.
"Hey, Chiron." Annabeth greeted, while I waved. He was currently in his centaur form showing the proper grip to handle a bow to some of Katie's siblings.
He turned towards and smiled. "Ah, Percy and Annabeth, perfect." He placed down the bow and said. "So, how are you, Percy? I hope you are adjusting to CHB well."
Annabeth snorted. "As if. He has already irritated Mr. D more times than I have in my life and that too knowing he was a god. He was lucky he didn't get incinerated."
I smiled sheepishly as Chiron turned towards me with an exasperated look. "Must you do this to every immortal you come upon, Percy?" He questioned with a tired smile on his face.
"Sorry, Chiron, but he was getting on my nerves. Yes, he might be here against his wishes but he should at least respect the campers and treat them accordingly. And don't tell me to respect him just because he is a god. Respect should be earned, not given." I said adamantly.
Annabeth and Chiron looked at me with something akin to respect and exasperation in their eyes. I was getting uncomfortable under their collective gaze so I cleared my throat awkwardly. "So...can anyone give me a tour of this place?"
That snapped them out of their stupor and Chiron smiled. "Of course. Annabeth can you please return to your classes. I am free for the following class, so I will give young Perseus here a tour of the camp. You can continue your chat with Percy and introduce him to cabin eleven after I'm done."
She nodded and turned around, walking to her next class.
Chiron turned towards Grover and asked him to proceed to the council of cloven elders. Grover paled but nodded and trudged towards the woods mournfully.
I was tempted to give Chiron and the council a piece of my mind at their treatment of my best friend, but I bit my lip to avoid any further complications with Chiron.
"So, let's get going, shall we?"
The tour was the same as last time. Chiron showed me the cabins, the dining area along with the stables, and the canoe lake.
I asked him the same question about how did the gods end up in America and he gave me the same answer as before. I just nodded at his explanation as if I understood everything. I didn't. I didn't get it the first time, I didn't get it this time. Yes yes, I know, after so many years of fighting for the gods, how could I not know that?
Give me a break, I know I'm dumb as fuck.
I asked him the Underworld and he gave me the same bullshit answer. Seriously, how can someone be so bad at changing the subject?! He literally had the subtlety of a raging Artemis ranting about her man-hating ways! (Artemis was strangely proud of that fact). At least make a good excuse about why were you hiding the creepy-as-fuck mummy! Don't just say, "Oh look, here is the arena". C'mon Chiron! You've gotta up your game.
As we walked on, I noticed the stares I was receiving. I turned towards the gawking eyes to see everyone was pointing at me, whispering something along the lines of. "That's him" or "Underwear wearing bull"
It got on my nerves so much, I snapped at one point. "Oi, stop staring and keep your nose in your shit!"
The campers paled and scrambled to act as if they weren't pointing at me and went about their classes. Chiron looked strangely amused by the whole situation. Smug bastard.
Eventually, we reached the amphitheater, after visiting the strawberry fields, the woods, and the stables. At one point, Chiron had started muttering to himself about I didn't have a sword or a shield. I uncapped Riptide, which he had forgotten he gave it to me and showed him the very pointy blade. Chiron shut up after that.
I looked around the amphitheater and my eyes rested on a familiar nine-year-old figure tending the hearth.
I grinned and told Chiron that I would meet Annabeth when she was free from her classes, but until then I wanted to be left alone.
Chiron blinked but agreed nonetheless and retreated to the big house as I made my way towards my past/future/hopefully future mother.
"Hello mo-I mean Lady Hestia", I greeted with a low bow.
Yeah, I should probably explain that. After the death of my birth mom, I was devastated. I could not sleep without having nightmares about my mother. Granted, she did pass away peacefully, but it still haunted me. Every day, I would wake up screaming from the loss of one of the most important women in my life. This was something that did not go unnoticed by Artemis when I was with the hunt. In concern, she approached the ever-lovable Aunt Hestia to help me from the clutches of depression.
After some discussions with my father, they all agreed that I needed a loving mother-figure in my life again.
And like that, one of the best times in my life started. Living within the hunters' rank with my best friends and a loving mother with awesome cooking skills who came to visit every day? I couldn't imagine a better life.
Hestia jumped slightly, startled at my greeting but smiled warmly. "Ah, Percy Jackson, it's good to meet you. I see the hope in you. And love. Endless love and loyalty for your mother, friends, and familial love for...me?" She said with a tilt of her head in confusion.
My eyes widened. Oh shit.
'Hey, Arty! Can I tell mom everything, please?'
Artemis sighed. 'I suspected this would happen. As a result, I have already taken the permission of Lady Chaos and Lady Nyx. They have permitted us to reveal our mission to one person we can trust.'
'Then, there's no one I trust more than you and Hestia.' I reasoned. 'Also can you please arrive here?' I requested
Artemis frowned. 'Why must I be there?'
I frowned. 'I'm not saying you should be here. I just thought it would be better if you were present, seeing Mom would trust your words. Plus, I really wanted to see you', I finished with a blush and a sheepish smile.
'Uh-okay, I-I w-will be there in a minute'
I grinned and turned my head towards Hestia. "Okay, I know this must be a bit confusing about why I love you like a mother, but could you please wait for a minute?" I asked politely. "My best friend will be here soon and we will explain everything to you then, seeing you are the only god we both trust."
Her cheeks colored at my proclamation but nodded and smiled warmly.
We spent the next couple of minutes in comfortable silence, enjoying the warmth of the hearth. A silver flash in front of us alerted me of the godly presence. I grinned hugely as Artemis appeared before me in her usual 12-year-old self. "Hello, Aunt Hestia. Hey, Percy", She greeted warmly.
Hestia blinked before frowning. "Niece? What are you-"
Not being able to wait anymore, I flung myself into the arms of the moon goddess with a gleeful shout. "Arty!"
From the corner of my eyes, I saw mom panicking, thinking Artemis was definitely going to be jackelope-fying me. She opened her mouth to speak but then closed it in shock, as Artemis returned the hug, just as tightly if not more. For a few minutes, we both hung on to each other, relishing the warmth provided by the other. "Percy..." I heard her whisper.
"Hello Arty" I smiled warmly, reluctantly pulling myself away from the warm embrace. "I missed you."
Artemis smiled shyly but rolled her eyes. "We talked, like, two seconds ago via the mind thingy." I stared at her. "Fine, I missed you too." She admitted with a roll of her eyes.
I grinned victoriously before bringing my attention to mom, who was still frozen in shock. "T-this-best friend-what?!"
We laughed at her tied tongue. "I'll tell you later Mo-Hestia, but first could you please construct a barrier around us so we are shielded from everyone, including Apollo on the sun-chariot?"
Mom just nodded numbly before snapping her fingers, creating a dome around us. "You know, you can do that too, right?" Artemis pointed out.
I smiled sheepishly. "Yeah, but I don't know how to. Chaos hasn't told me how to use it or control my powers. At least Nyx gave me the instruction manual." I grumbled.
Mom finally snapped out of her shock before squeaking out. "C-Chaos? Nyx?"
Artemis nodded and smiled apologetically. "We'll explain everything Aunt Hestia, just bear with us."
And so over the next ten minutes, we gave her a basic rundown of each of my quests and all of the threats we would face in the future. After we were finished, mom just blinked twice and put her head in her hands. "Wait, so Percy is the twice savior of Olympus from future, who is blessed by two of the strongest Protogenoi, one being the creator herself, retrieved the master bolt, defeated Ares, found the golden fleece, held the sky, traversed the labyrinth, became praetor of Rome, freed Death, befriended the hunters, faced the Gigantes and the Earth mother and fell into Tartarus?!" she asked incredulously. I nodded grimly while Artemis said. "That's just the basic rundown. He has done far more."
I blushed at the compliment and mumbled a 'it was nothing'. Mom stared at me before engulfing me in a huge hug. "Oh, you poor boy. I can't imagine what you've been through. I had suspicions about your father from your appearance but now that I am sure, I can only feel pity for you for the burden cast upon your shoulder by the Fates" She whispered soothingly. Tears pricked my eyes as I melted into the familiar comfort the embrace provided. "Thank you m-Hestia," I said gratefully as she let go of me.
"But I can't understand why would you love me as a mother or call me mom, Percy?" she questioned confusedly.
Artemis smirked at my pale face. I took in a deep breath. "Uh-youkindaadoptedme", I blurted out in a rush.
"What?"
Artemis answered her question. "Forgive me Aunt, but you adopted Percy in the future after his mother's passing," Artemis explained. "He was depressed from the news and we all agreed he needed a loving maternal figure in his life. He was already your favorite demi-god, so it pained you to see him hurting. Thus, you adopted him." Artemis finished simply.
My eyes cast down so I couldn't see Hestia's reaction as I braced myself for a negative reaction from her. "I understand if you don't want anything to do with me now milady-" I started but was interrupted by a warm hand cupping my cheek.
"Huh?" I asked confusedly. Hestia giggled before muttering in ancient greek under her breath. "I, Aera Hestia, firstborn of Kronos and Rhea, Goddess of Hope, Unity, and Home, hereby adopt Perseus Achilles Jackson, son of Poseidon, to be my own son. Let my blood flow through his veins and may he bring glory, peace, and hope in the name of the Hearth." She announced.
Tears pricked my eyes once again as I gazed at my smiling mother and Artemis. I launched myself into her arms and cried tears of happiness. "I know it is too forward for you Mom, but I don't care. I love you, Mother." I breathed out, my voice muffled by her shoulder.
My mom beamed and responded. "I love you too, son."
I smiled before pulling myself out of the comforting embrace. Mom smirked mischievously and cooed. "Oh look at you. My baby is all grown up, already garnering the attention of the man-hating goddess at this age."
I turned bright red at her words and spluttered. "W-what? Mom!" I cried indignantly.
Mom giggled and I glanced towards Artemis. She was blushing golden from head to toes and mumbled something about getting back to her hunters, before vanishing in a silver flash.
I turned towards my mom in annoyance, who was laughing her heart out at our reactions. I pouted, but couldn't keep the smile off my face.
The rest of the day went pretty much the same. Annabeth showing me the Hermes cabin, she blushing like crazy in front of Luke and Clarisse confronting me between our 'tour'.
Oh but this time, I didn't let her go scot-free. I grinned as Clarisse lunged towards me, hoping to clutch my arm to drag me to the bathroom. I sidestepped easily before kneeing her in the ribs. She grunted in pain, collapsed and spit blood on the ground. Her cabin-mates rushed towards me screaming profanities after watching I beat their sister. Two of them ran towards me with their fists raised. I muttered something about being ridiculously slow before ducking and kicking them both in their backs, throwing them on the ground.
The rest seemed reluctant to approach me but did so anyway, so I lunged at them and quickly disarming one with my fists and dropping the other two on the ground in less than ten seconds.
Of course, Clarisse wouldn't leave the arena with her bruised ego silently, would she? I just snorted at her threat about 'watching my back' and bowed mockingly at the stunned crowd gathered around us. And of course, Annabeth announced that she wanted me on her team in Capture the flag.
I pretty much was settled in the Hermes cabin by the end of the day, with Luke and Ethan complimenting my swordsmanship after I sparred and disarmed them once 'by accident'. I just cryptically replied, "I was taught by the best." upon their question of where did I learn to wield a sword. That was true since Luke was the best swordsman at the time.
The following days settled into a calming sense of plagiarism with Nyx, Artemis, and Chaos popping in from time to time and me having classes with the Hermes cabin every day.
I would talk with my mom every day, telling her about my adventures in detail. Each of our talks ended with her eyes shining with pride and tears as she hugged the shit out of me and murmur about how her baby was a hero. I would practically glow red with embarrassment but never let go of her embrace.
I also talked with Grover about his searcher's license and never had I ever wanted to smack a guy and his superiors at the point. Grover, for having low-esteem and the cloven elders for being stupid and lazy idiots.
From lessons with Luke about sword-fighting to Ancient greek with Annabeth and even Archery with Chiron, which I was surprisingly good at. (Arty graciously agreed to remove the curse that Apollo placed on the sons of Poseidon. I wanted to deck the guy. Seriously, I couldn't shoot because of a stupid curse?!) I relaxed into the days. Until of course, Capture the Flag. The day I would get claimed.
We were all standing around in a group with Annabeth giving everyone instructions and informing them of their respective positions. As she was saying something about Luke going in the offense, I raised my hand.
Annabeth raised her eyebrows and gestured for me to continue. "I can do border patrol, right? That would be the best idea for me as the Ares cabin has a bone to pick with me. They would be out for blood and I would provide as a distraction. They would come after me because of their pride and Luke can easily get their flags while I distract them." I explained.
Everyone looked a bit surprised at my explanation but turned towards Annabeth, who was contemplating the plan, to see her reaction.
Annabeth nodded with the Athena cabin giving an approving gaze towards me. "That would be the best course of action. Good job, Percy" She complimented before going over everything once again.
I smiled but didn't fail to notice how Luke narrowed his eyes at me.
Chiron hammered his hoof on the marble.
"Heroes!" he announced. "You know the rules. The creek is the boundary line. The entire forest is fair game. All magic items are allowed. The banner must be prominently displayed and have no more than two guards. Prisoners may be disarmed, but may not be bound or gagged. No killing or maiming is allowed. I will serve as referee and battlefield medic. Arm yourselves!"
We cheered and I head towards the creek and waited for Clarisse and her goons to arrive. The conch shell was blown as cheers and whoops sounded from both sides. I heard the hellhound growl in the darkness but paid no attention to it. I would deal with it in the end. I waited for the Ares cabin to show up and they did not disappoint.
With a rustle of foliage, Clarisse barged towards me with four of her siblings, yelling and screaming in the dark.
"Cream the punk!" Clarisse screeched before they all charged.
I gave a sadistic smile to all of them before uncapping Riptide. The Xiphos elongated in all its three-foot glory, its bronze glow gleaming in the dark.
At the sight of my blade, they faltered but resumed their charge on me with full force. I just stood there to meet them head-on.
I ducked under a wild slash and swung the flat of my sword against the first guy's head and knocked his helmet clean off. He crumpled in the water with an audible grunt.
Ugly Number Two and Ugly Number Three came at me. I slammed one in the face with my shield and used my sword to shear off the other guy's horsehair plume. Both of them backed up quickly. Ugly Number Four didn't look anxious to attack, but Clarisse kept coming, the point of her spear crackling with energy. As soon as she thrust, I caught the shaft between the edge of my shield and my sword, and I snapped it like a twig.
"Ah!" she screamed. "You idiot! You corpse-breath worm!"
She definitely would've said worse, but I summoned a ball of water from the creek and hurled it at her between the eyes. She stumbled backward out of the creek.
Then I heard yelling, elated screams, and I saw Luke racing toward the boundary line with the red team's banner lifted high. He was flanked by a couple of Hermes guys covering his retreat, and a few Apollos behind them, fighting off the Hephaestus kids. The Ares folks got up, and Clarisse muttered a dazed curse.
"A trick!" she shouted. "It was a trick."
"Of course it was, you dumb bitch." I shot back. She shot me a murderous glare but I just stared at her unfazed.
Before she could say anything, I turned towards the invisible Annabeth and said, "You can reveal yourself now, Wise Girl. We won."
The air shimmered to show a wide-eyed Annabeth with her cheeks flushed at the nickname. "How did you know I was here?" She demanded.
I just shrugged. "I could feel the water in your body, plus you aren't stealthy."
She blushed then frowned. "How did you-"
Her question was cut off by a bloodthirsty snarl erupting from the woods. A hellhound with beady red eyes and sharp fangs poised to lunge towards me.
The campers took a step back in fear as Chiron yelled to get him a bow. Annabeth tried to get in front of me, but I yelled. "Get back, Annabeth!"
Before she could even process the order, the hellhound pounced. The lunge of its foamy mouth was meant for me, but since Annabeth was in front of me now, the hellhound would land on her. She froze in fear as I darted forwards and pushed her out of harm's way.
She fell in the creek with a grunt as the hellhound hit me, it's sharp claws ripping through my t-shirt. I screamed in pain. I felt the blood spurt out but stood up and ignored the pain as the hellhound readied itself to lunge again. Before it could, three arrows sprouted from its hide as I stabbed Anaklsmos in its neck with a grunt. The hound disintegrated into sulfurous powder. The campers fell silent as they replayed what just happened in shock
Chiron trotted up next to us, a bow in his hand, his face grim.
"Di immortales!" Annabeth said. "That's a hellhound from the Fields of Punishment. They don't ... they're not supposed to ..."
"Someone summoned it," Chiron said. "Someone inside the camp."
I stared at Luke with a cocked head and he started fidgeting slightly under my gaze. Of course, I knew it was he who summoned it, but I would not confront him. At least not now.
Clarisse yelled, "It's all Percy's fault! Percy summoned it!"
Before Chiron could reprimand her, I shouted. "Yeah, and I also made it attack me. How stupid are you, war-spawn?" I said sarcastically.
Annabeth seemed to snap out of her shock as she rushed towards me. "You're hurt, Percy! Someone get him to the infirmary" she yelled frantically.
"No need", I grunted. "Just get me to the creek."
"What? Why? We have-"
"I said get me to the creek!" I snapped. Yes, I know I shouldn't have snapped at her, but I was in too much pain to care.
She reluctantly helped me up and supported me as I limped to the creek. I breathed a sigh of relief as the water traveled up my body and started to heal me.
Annabeth noticed this and stumbled back, her eyes widened. "Oh, Styx...this is really not good..."
"It is determined," Chiron announced in shock. Everyone started kneeling around me. I looked up to see a three-pronged trident hologram hovering above me along with the hearth's flame. I smiled inwardly at my mother claiming me. But then I realized Zeus probably wouldn't take it well, a virgin goddess having a child. Yes, adopted, but his small brain wouldn't consider that. As if on cue, thunder boomed overhead.
"Poseidon and Hestia. Lord of the Seas and Horses, Lady of Hope and Hearth." Chiron said, his eyes the size of drachmas. "Hail, Perseus Jackson, son of the Sea and Hearth."
Everyone stared at me, still kneeling.
I rolled my eyes. "Oh get up, you lot. I want to go to sleep."
And there it is. The 6th chapter, at your...eh, service? Whatever. Yeah, I know I was supposed to update a lot sooner, but I don't have the time with all the classes and studies. At least, this chapter is the longest one. Hope it can compensate for the lack of updates, hehe.
Anyway, there was some much needed Pertemis action in this chapter, which you guys would have liked. Also, the weird adoption story that I made up. I'm not proud of it, but it'll do for now. (I'll change it up during the final check-up once the story is done.
So, yeah, please review if you liked it and until next time, guys...
