Callahan walked to the door when he knocked and he opened the door. Melletti looked at him when Callahan sat down on the chair in front of the desk and he crossed one leg over the other.
"Did you read my reports?" Rory asked.
"Yes. I did," Franco said.
"When are we going after the Saints?"
"We're not."
"What?!" he asked as Callahan stood up and he slammed the palm of his hands on the desk. "Why th'hell not?!"
"This," Franco said, sliding a file folder to him. Callahan picked up the file folder as he read the information and his eyes widened.
"This is bullshit!"
"I checked. The information is legitimate."
"They killed members of the Russian Mafia!"
"Self-defense."
"People saw them kill "Papa Joe" Yakavetta at his trial!"
"It wasn't them."
"They killed members of th'fuckin' FBI!"
"Again. Wasn't them."
"How!? How is this possible!?"
"I don't know. All I know is Connor and Murphy MacManus and their friend have been resolved of the crimes against them."
"Shit," Rory said, sitting back on the chair.
"Are you still going after Giovani Yakavetta?"
Callahan glared at him when Callahan walked to the door, opened the door, left the room and Melletti frowned.
Callahan walked down the hallway when the soft pinging of the cellphone caught his attention and he removed the cellphone from the inner pocket of his suit jacket. He looked at the screen when he frowned and he leaned against the wall.
Have you seen the latest on the Saints?
He looked around to make sure he wasn't being watched and he typed on the keyboard.
Yes, I have. Is the information really legit?
It is.
How did that happen?!
Let's meet up and I'll show you.
Where?
The usual.
I'll be there in ten.
Callahan placed the cellphone back into the inner pocket of his suit jacket as he pushed off the wall and he headed down the hallway.
Yakavetta Estate
Giovani watched as Lorenzo talked with the guards and Giovani sighed. After what happened at the gun warehouse, Lorenzo had ordered more guards and Giovani saw the anger in his uncle's eyes.
"How do you kill ghosts," Giovani whispered and Lorenzo looked at him.
"Did you say something?" Lorenzo asked.
"I'm just wondering how we're going to be able to kill the Saints."
"Simple. We see them, we shoot them."
"That is what Concezio did and look what happened to him."
"From what I heard, Concezio hid like a rat then the Saints killed him."
Lorenzo nodded when Dante walked toward them and Lorenzo looked at him.
"Report," Lorenzo said.
"The north and eastern perimeter is secure," Dante said.
"What about the dock and the helipad?"
"Secure."
"Has the security system been updated?"
"Yes, Don Yakavetta."
"Dismissed."
Nodding, Dante left the room as he closed the doors and he headed down the hallway.
In the den, Giovani pouted some brandy into a tall glass, took a long drink and he sighed, looking at the portrait.
Traynor Estates
"Coffee," Murphy grumbled while he walked in the kitchen and he headed for the kitchen table. Angelica smiled at him as she poured the coffee into a white coffee mug with a cartoon black cat holding a coffee mug in its paws and she walked to the table. She noticed her was wearing just his underpants and a bathrobe and his hair was sticking up.
"Here," she said, placing the coffee mug down in front of him and he glanced at her.
"You fergot summat."
Softly laughing, Angelica ruffled Murphy's hair as he sipped on the coffee and she sat on the chair next to him.
"Did you sleep alright?" she asked.
"Aye, though I'm not sure about Connor. Heard him gettin' up a few times."
"Want me to go check on him?" she asked and he nodded his head. She got up when she headed out of the kitchen and she walked down the hallway. She saw Angelique sitting at the desk when she stopped and Angelica leaned on the doorframe. "Getting an early start?"
"I was just checking on something," Angelique said.
"What sort of something?"
"I wanted to check on Yakavetta and it turns out I was right. Yakavetta's got more guards."
"How bad is it?"
"We're screwed if we go after him."
"Did you tell Connor?"
"I think he's still asleep."
Angelica noticed the concerned look on her face as Angelica walked to the desk and she placed her hands on top of the desk.
"How bad is he?" Angelica asked.
"He's showing signs of burnout. When I went to check on him, it looked like he had been crying,"
"Shit.
"The weird thing? He wanted to go to bed."
"And…?!" she asked with a grin.
"Get out of the gutter," Angelique said with a soft laugh. "When he got in bed, I asked him if it was ok to hold him,"
"What did he say?"
"He said it was ok."
"Did he fall asleep?"
Angelique nodded when Angelica headed for the door and she left the room. She headed for the stairs as she looked up the staircase and she saw Romeo and Angelina walking down the stairs.
"Morning," Romeo said with a smile.
"Morning," Angelica said.
"Is there something wrong?" Angelina asked.
"I hope not."
Romeo and Angelina watched her running up the stairs as they frowned and Romeo shrugged.
Angelica headed down the hallway when she stopped at the door to Murphy and Connor's room and she knocked on the door.
"Connor?" she called out when she opened the door and she walked in the room. She saw Connor curled under the covers as she quietly walked closer and she gently sat on the edge of the bed. She reached over to shake him when he opened his eyes and she saw how tired to looked. "Hey."
"Hey," he grumbled.
"How are you feeling?"
"Tired."
"Murphy told me he heard you getting up during the night."
"Couldn't sleep."
"Want to talk about it?"
Connor lightly laughed then nodded his head and she moved a little closer.
"You gonna move yer fingers through my hair like you do with Murph?" he asked. She heard the same little boy tone in his voice like Murphy did back in the ambulance and in the operating room and she smiled.
"Only if you want me to," she teased. Connor nodded and she softly moved her fingers through his hair. His hair had a softer feel to it than Murphy's hair as she watched his face relax and he barely smiled. She kept moving her fingers as she thought about how alike they were when they got upset and he yawned.
"I dreamt about Da," he said after a few seconds.
"Did you talk with him?" she asked.
"I did," he said then he told her about the dream.
"Is what he said have something to do with why you couldn't sleep?"
"Some of it."
"The other reason was you still trying to figure out what to do next?"
"More or less."
"Well, as your doctor, I am putting you on bed rest for the next few days."
"I can't jus' stay in bed. Got stuff t'do."
"Yeah, you got to rest and recharge. Now, go to sleep. We'll take care of the rest."
Nodding, Connor closed his eyes. She watched him drifting off to sleep then she got up, moving the covers to his left shoulder and she looked at the doorway after she felt like she was being watched. Murphy waved at her and she walked to him. She placed her right index finger to her lips as he nodded and they left the room.
Safe Haven
Smecker sat at the desk as he looked at the report and he flexed his fingers in and out. He looked up when he heard the door open and Sibeal and Eunice entered the room.
"Have you seen this?" Paul asked with a slight growl.
"Seen what?" Sibeal asked.
"The Saints have been pardoned of all charges against them."
"How did that happen?" Eunice asked.
"I have no fucking idea."
"Does this mean my nephews and Romeo are free t'do whatever they want?" Sibeal asked.
"Yes."
"How do we even know this is legit?" Eunice asked.
"I checked. It's legit."
"Even if it is, they're goin' t'be in trouble if they go after Yakavetta an' Interpol shows up," Sibeal said.
"He's right. We need to find them," Eunice said.
"How? They're gone. For all we know, they're not even in Milan," Paul said.
"Oh, they're still here," Sibeal said. "If they're anything like their father, they won't leave until the job is done."
Smecker heard the seriousness in his voice as Smecker sighed and he placed his head in his hands.
Milan – Traynor Estate, two weeks later
Connor walked down the stairs when he headed for the den and he leaned against the doorframe. Angelique was looking at the screen when she felt like someone watching her and she glanced up to look at Connor.
He was wearing jeans and a gray tank top and his feet were bare. His hair was sticking up slightly on the top of his head, but he was cleanshaven. He looked well rested and she was happy to see the impish nature in his eyes again.
"Well, look who decided to get out of bed," she teased.
"Can't stay there fer th'rest of my life. Not when we have things t'do," Connor said.
"Are you back in charge then?"
"Nope," he said. He walked to the desk when he sat on the edge of the desk and she looked at the screen. "So, what are you doin'?"
"I'm trying to break into the Yakavetta security system. Seems they have changed a few passwords."
Nodding, he leaned over slightly to try and see the screen and she turned the screen so he could see.
"Well, look who's up," Romeo said while he, Murphy, Angelina and Angelica walked in the room and Connor looked at them.
"Like I told her, I can't stay there forever," Connor said. Murphy sensed his brother's renewed confidence as he smiled at Connor and Connor nodded his head.
"How's the hacking going?" Angelica asked, walking to the desk, leaned her right hand on the desk and she looked at the screen.
"They changed the password again," Angelique said and Connor heard the frustration in her voice.
"What about security?" Romeo asked.
"Look at this," she said as they headed for the desk and they looked at the screen. She brought up images of the estate and they looked at the little white dots moving across the screen.
"Holy shit," Angelina said.
"What are these yellow dots?" Connor asked.
"Those are Giovanni and Lorenzo Yakavetta," Angelique explained.
"So, what's th'plan?" Murphy asked, looking at Connor.
"Well…," Connor said while he looked at the screen. "We have two choices."
"We go in there and get killed or we cut bait and run," Romeo said.
"Those are good choices, but there has to be a third one," Angelica said, looking at the screen.
"What do you have in mind?" Connor asked.
"Well…," she said as she moved away from the desk and she started pacing. Murphy watched her as he placed his elbows on the desk and he cupped his chin in his hands. "Murphy MacManus, stand up and stop looking at my ass."
"How did you know I was doin' that?" Murphy asked, standing up and he blinked his eyes a few times,
"I didn't," she teased and he snorted a laugh.
"What is that?" Angelina asked when she noticed a blue rectangle moved down the street, went into the estate and headed for the side of the house.
"That is the delivery truck."
"What are they delivering?" Romeo asked.
"Food. Supplies. Maybe guns and ammo."
"How often does it show up?" Angelica asked.
"It comes and goes at least twice a day."
"Do you know the name of the trucking company?" Angelina asked, walking to Murphy.
"Duh," she sighed as she typed on the keyboard and they looked at the screen.
"Ok…," Connor said when he came up with an idea and Murphy saw the excitement in his twin's eyes. "I got an idea."
"You wanna take one of th'trucks an' use it t'sneak into th'house," Murphy said.
"Uh… You're right. That's what I had in mind."
"Are we gonna kidnap one of the drivers?" Romeo asked.
"Nope," he said as he looked at Angelina.
"I'm driving," Angelina said with a grin and he nodded his head.
"And the rest of us ride in the back of the truck," Angelica said.
"That might work. But we don't need a truck. I saw a couple of vans from the same company coming and going as well," Angelique said, looking at the screen.
"We still need gear," Murphy said.
"Got enough for all of us?" Romeo asked.
"Again. Duh," Angelique said with a grin.
"Then let's go," Connor said. Angelique saved the information then she turned the computer off and they left the room. They headed down the hallway when Connor felt Angelique's fingers brushing against his and Connor slid his fingers around hers. She smiled while he squeezed her fingers and he barely swung their hands back and forth.
Safe Haven
"Son of a bitch!" Paul grumbled as he looked at the screen and the door opened. Eunice and Sibeal entered the room when they headed for the desk and Smecker sat back in the chair.
"Now what's wrong?" Eunice asked. She had been talking with her contact over the last two weeks and she knew about the increased security at the Yakavetta Estate.
"We're screwed, that's what."
"What happened?" Sibeal asked.
"I was just informed that Yakavetta has an army surrounding his estate."
'Which means there is no way for the Saints to get in there without getting killed," Eunice said.
"Yep."
"And they don't know they're walking into a trap."
"Yep."
"Which means they're goin' t'their deaths," Sibeal said, sitting down hard on the chair.
"Yep."
"Can this day get any worse?" Eunice asked with a sigh. A sudden knock on the door startled them as she looked at the door and frowned. "I really didn't want an answer."
Getting up, Smecker walked to the door when he opened the door and he frowned. Callahan and Melletti stood in the hallway as Callahan locked eyes with him and Smecker saw several police officers behind him.
"Oh fuck," Paul thought.
"Who the hell are you?" Paul asked.
"Interpol," Rory said, showing Smecker his identification. Melletti showed Smecker his identification and Smecker kept his face blank.
"What can I do for you, Gentlemen?" Paul asked.
"We have a warrant to search your vessel," Franco said, showing him the warrant. Smecker took the warrant as he read the information while he walked to Eunice and Sibeal.
"We're screwed," Paul whispered to Eunice and Sibeal as he handed Eunice the warrant.
"Is there something wrong?" Rory asked, folding his arms over his chest.
"It says here you are looking for the Saints," Eunice said as she walked to Rory then she stopped after the police officers aimed their weapons at her.
"I'd back up if I were you," Rory said with a smirk.
"What you would say if we told you we have no idea who the Saints are?" she asked, walking back to the desk.
"I would say you're lying."
"It also says here that you want to search our vessel for suspicious activities. Care to explain what sort of activities you are looking for?"
"That's classified," Franco said.
"How do we know you really are who you say you are?" Paul asked.
"I assure you me and my people are police officers," Franco said.
"I am talking about him."
Melletti looked at Callahan as his own suspicions came to the surface and Melletti frowned.
"You do have a point," Franco said and Callahan glared at him. "From the start, I have been wondering just how you are able to be at certain areas of this investigation or know more about what is going on then I do."
"Is this true?" Paul asked, arching an eyebrow.
"Look, you either abide by the warrant or we're taking you into custody," Rory said with a growl.
"Not until I can get clarification of your identity."
"I agree," Franco said.
"Don't you get what he's doing? He's trying to turn you against me. That's what these assholes do," Rory said.
"Then you better show me real proof to your identity or, like I told you before, I'm arresting you for interfering with a police investigation."
Callahan glared at him then Callahan stormed down the hallway, pushing some of the police officers out of his way.
Melletti looked at Smecker when Melletti shrugged then he and the police officers headed down the hallway. Smecker waited until they went up the stairs when he closed the door and he looked at Eunice and Sibeal.
"That was close," Eunice said.
"Too close," Sibeal said.
"What are we going to do now?"
"We need to find the Saints," Paul said, looking at the warrant and he crumbled the warrant in his right hand.
Milan – Henderson Delivery Co.
The grappling hook connected to the top of the wall then the rope was pulled straight and Angelique climbed up to the top of the wall. She had found where the security cameras were and Connor was excited about using the grappling hook.
"All clear," she called down to the others as Angelina started climbing down and Angelique got out of the way.
"Remember. No looking at my ass, MacManus," Angelica teased as Murphy sighed then rolled his eyes.
"Ruin my fun, why don't you," Murphy grumbled.
"Get goin'," Connor said, handing Angelica the tote bag.
Angelica started climbing when she got to the top of the wall and Angelique moved the rope up. She lowered the rope down the other side of the wall as Angelina and Angelica climbed down the rope then Angelique pulled the rope up. She lowered the rope down to Connor as he took hold of the rope and Romeo climbed up to the top of the wall.
After Connor and Murphy climbed up to the top of the wall, they climbed down the rope then Angelique looked at the tablet she had brought with her.
"There is a staff storage room over there," Angelique said, pointing to the right. They ran for the white cement building as they stood in front of the door and Connor knelt down. He removed the lockpick kit from the pocket of his jeans, opened the lockpick kit and he removed the lockpick tools. Angelique looked at the tablet screen when she tapped her thumbs on the keyboard and she smiled. "Security down."
"Thanks," Connor said with a wink and the lock clicked. He stood up as he opened the door and they went inside. Murphy reached along the wall until he found the light switch and he flicked the switch. The lights came up as they looked at the shelves and Romeo and Angelina headed for the shelf to the left.
"Found the uniforms," Romeo said.
They checked the sizes of the uniforms when they found uniforms which would fit them then they headed for the door. Checking to see if anyone was around, Connor looked back at them then he nodded They headed out of the building when he closed the door and Angelique looked at the tablet screen.
"The vans are this way," she said, pointing to the right.
"Let's go," Connor said after he and Murphy removed the Berrettas out of the tote bag and Romeo removed the silver-plated gun. Nodding, Connor pointed to Angelique as she led the way and they headed for the vans.
The garage
Murphy, Connor, Angelica, Angelique and Romeo looked out from behind one of the vans while Angelina walked toward three men standing near some crates and she looked back at them. Connor signaled for her to keep going and Angelina nodded. She kept walking when she noticed the men were looking at them and one of the men smiled.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" Jake Nelson asked.
"I could ask the same of you. Last I heard, you were in Athens," Angelina said, giving Jake a sideways hug.
"I was."
"No offense, but we haven't seen you since your dad died," Larry Morgan said.
"Been busy," Angelina said with a shrug.
"Oh. I thought it was because you went legit," Alex Manson said.
"I did go legit."
"Then what the hell are you doing here? Don't you know who runs this place?" Larry asked.
"No, I don't know."
"Then you better get that pretty ass of yours outta here," Jake said when a tall, heavy-set man walked closer and Angelina looked at him.
"Who the hell is this?" Oliver Henderson asked, looking at Angelina.
"You remember Ben Kane?" Jake asked.
"Yeah. He was a right bastard."
"I am Angelina Kane," Angelina said with her face blank and her shoulders back.
"You're Little Angel?"
"Yep."
"What are you doing here?"
"I need a van."
"For what?"
"For a delivery," she said as she moved closer and shifted her eyes side-to-side. "To Giovani Yakavetta."
"You're working for Don Yakavetta?"
"Maybe."
The men looked at each other while Murphy and Connor exchanged glances and they had a silent conversation.
"What are you delivering to him?" Oliver asked with suspicion in his eyes.
"Us," Connor said as he and Murphy appeared with the Berrettas pointed at the men and Romeo stood next to them with the silver-plated guns pointed at them.
"Who the fuck are you!?" Alex asked, removing the gun from the holster on his belt.
"They're the Saints, Asshole," Jake said, removing the gun from the holster on his belt.
"Got it in one try," Connor said.
"Now, be good boys an' give us th'van," Murphy said.
"There is no way…," Oliver said when he heard a click and he moved his eyes to see Angelina pointing a gun at his head. "Shit, you are your father's daughter."
"If I was, I would have shot all of you instead of talking to you," Angelina said.
"You would?" Romeo asked and she nodded her head.
"Well? Are you gonna give us th'van?" Connor asked, tilting his head to one side.
"Looks like I have no choice," Oliver said.
"Uh, what are you going to do about us?" Larry asked.
"You mean are we gonna kill you?" Murphy asked.
"You guys are scum, but you're not exactly on our list," Connor said then he frowned. "Are you?"
"No!" Jake said with a shake of his head.
"Nope! I'm clean!" Larry said.
"No!" Alex said.
"What about you, Sunshine?" Romeo asked as he looked at Oliver.
"I'm clean," Oliver said, glaring at Connor and Murphy.
"Then you have nothin' t'worry about," Connor said.
"Unless you try shootin' at us before we get to th'van," Murphy said.
"I agree. That would be a very bad idea."
Oliver growled as he nodded his head and he pointed to the van to his left.
"Thanks," Connor said, walking backward toward the van. He noticed the driver side door was unlocked as he opened the door, slid inside the van, walked to the back of the van and he unlocked then opened the doors.
Angelica, Angelina, Angelique, Romeo and Murphy got in the van as Connor closed the doors and Angelina headed for the driver's seat. She started the engine, pointed for Oliver to open the gate and the van headed down the road after the gate opened.
