Welcome! This is my first fanfiction ever. Please forgive me, if there will be mistakes. English is not my first language. I am from Slovak republic. This story is completely AU from Season 5. This Chapter is small one - is just because I want you get introduced before Dinozzo appoiment as Director.

Quick storyline: After Gibbs retired, Dinozzo and Director Shepard become very close at work matters. It was no secret that Tony was considered as Jenny's right hand. Although Gibbs returned, their cooperation continued, resulting in Dinozzo being once again involved in complicated NCIS operations and was not fully concentrated on solving and investigating cases. How will Dinozzo react to Jen tragically death and his temporarily promotion to NCIS Director? What decisions he will make?

Pairing: Tony/Kate – Tony and Kate had before her death secret relationship, started after episode SWAK, although it was short, their truly loved each self, meaning Kate was his Miss Right.

Chapter 01 – Tragic Death

Anthony Dinozzo experienced it again, death of very close person which he was everyday contact. It is coming again - pain, crying, grieving, blaming and want revenge. It had happened three years ago when he lost forever his right woman, same month, with the only one change now. It was his boss not a colleague.

He looked at floor, full of bodies and blood. The phone started ringing; it was their mentor, person who he considers as father and she as lover. He picks up and remains silent.

"Jen... Jen?" asked Gibbs. He knew something has happened. He felt it. The blood in his veins was so fast.

"… Boss, Director is dead, she was multiplied shot." answered Tony. It was so hard to tell him. Looking at Ziva´s eyes, could he see disappointment? He knew that they had operations in Egypt. Jen´s was in some ways to Ziva as mother.

"Tony, where are you?" He could felt that Gibbs was nice. He remembered that former marine (N: Gibbs could kill me for that) was only nice when Kate died.

"Some abandoned building in the desert, we will start processing the scene, I think she killed hers killers, there is also four other bodies. I think I saw one at the funeral." replied Senior Field Agent.

Gibbs hung up the phone. Tony looked at her purse. But first he turned around and told Ziva to return to hotel, stopped at Los Angeles office and bring materials needed to process the scene and also grab his Armani suit. First she looked at him, but then she accepted the order.

As she left, he called assistant director Leon Vance. They were working together in several operations.

"Tony? Had something happened? It is not our typical day to call." asked worriedly Leon.

"Jenny is dead Leon. She was shot. I am in some abandoned building in the desert near Los Angeles, I was her security, but she ordered me free day. I felt something is wrong so I got some calls and founded her here. I already called Gibbs but I know you will be her successor so I thought I would tell you." tell him Tony and Leon quietly listened.

"I am coming Tony. I should be there in hour. You have my condolence. I know you were close." said future director.

"Thanks Leon." replied Senior Field Agent of the Major Criminal Response Team at NCIS.

After the phone call Tony went to work. Time flied quickly, so Vance came to desert. Dinozzo noticed him but continued working. Vance opened the door and was shocked. Five bodies were lying on the floor. On the ground was so much blood. Vance looked at Dinozzo with puzzled expression. After small talk they return to work with Vance helping Dinozzo. This continued for a while until the Ziva show up and she was shocked that Vance was there. She looked at Tony want an explanation.

Tony started to tell her but Leon was quicker. "Officer David, Agent Dinozzo made a brilliant decision to call me. As an Executive Assistant Director I have rights to know what happened to Director."

Tony was not shocked to that. He works with Vance for almost 2 years; he knows him and trusts him. He does not trust everybody. Leon is a member of small group of people which Dinozzo trust.

So they continued to work almost for all night. It was a early morning, when Gibbs finally arrived. He was surprised to see Vance, but it was very reasonable decision, he expected it was made by Dinozzo. Nothing changed, they returned to D.C to continue the investigation there.

Ziva found him in Director´s office. She searched for him in all building. He was drinking his favorite whiskey. Jen´s added whiskey to hers drinks cabinet only for Tony.

"It was not your fault." told him Ziva.

He looked at her, shot his drink to himself and replied to her. "I know. Come on down, we have work to do."

In the bullpen there was Vance asking questions and ordering tasks to McGee. After an hour, Dinozzo found a lead and McGee tracked down Gibbs phone.

"Dinozzo you with me, David help McGee." Ordered Vance and with Tony, went to garage and start their way to Jenny´s house. In the car there had a small talk.

"Jackie is ill, I am not going to accept a promotion, Tony." said Leon.

"Leon, if you not going accept the promotion, you know who will be director – McCallister and he will throw all of our plans to bin." replied Tony.

"He is not." told him Leon and still looking at the road and Tony just looked at him, so Vance continued. "SecNav is appreciated and rate our work and methods. He wants you to be acting director until I can accept."

"WHAT?" with shocked face asked Tony.

"Don´t told him Tony that I told you, he wants to meet you tomorrow." replied Vance and ending the conversation because Tony just nodded. Vance suddenly stopped the car, because he noticed walking Franks and Gibbs on the sidewalk.

He and Dinozzo walked out of car and Vance asked. "Case solved?" Gibbs just looked at Tony and simply nodded.

"What should I told SecNav?" asked executive assistant director. "What you want." replied Tony for Gibbs and looking at him having bad feeling in his gut. Franks and Vance noticed this.

They all get´s into the car and went back into the NCIS. Sirens sounded in the background. It was firefighters, Jen´s house was in the flames with Svetlana body in there. They got out from elevator and found up Ducky, Abby, McGee and Ziva there half-asleep. Gibbs told them it was over and the funeral was day after tomorrow.
