This was it. Now was the time, the perfect time, he couldn't miss his chance. Everyone was in bed, it was a beautiful night, and she was right there. He took a deep breath, and cool night air brushed his face like an encouragement. He walked up next to her, staring out into the ravine's amazing view. The wind lifted her hair and in a rush, he was reminded of how much he liked her.

"Hey," he said stupidly. "It's a really beautiful night, isn't it." She stared at him, perplexed. He usually didn't say optimistic things out of the blue like this. "Listen, I just wanted to tell you- something."

"When we began dating I told you you wouldn't like me because of who I was, what I'd done." His gaze fell to the floor and he sighed. She, from what he could see, was listening with rapt attention, a mixture of excitement and apprehension on her face. He had just opened his lips to continue when he felt a jarring blow to the head and water drenching his hair. Several more water balloons followed. Looking up and dodging two more water balloons he saw several young persons in the trees above them giggling madly. They were not the only ones laughing. Jin, now also soaked, was suppressing a laugh as she grabbed Zuko's hand and took off. Chaos ensued. Dodging several water balloons but receiving just as many, they ran from the park. It was a full minute before they were out of the water demons' range. They slowed their pace and recovered, panting with their hands on their knees. Jin was still giggling and Zuko was smiling broadly. After a few minutes of nothing but heavy breathing, He flipped back his wet hair. And Jin did the same. Even wet she looked beautiful. But instead of happiness, he felt despair, because he knew she would soon leave him. He sighed and decided to begin again.

"Are you cold?"

Jin laughed. "Of course! We just got soaked by water demon children in the dead of night! I'm freezing!"

"I'll make a fire."

Her smile lessed. "Do you have spark rocks in your pajammas?"

He moved away from her. "I can't keep lying to you!" Zuko, in one swift motion, made an arc in the air, and firebent. For a moment, flames lept up into the air, lighting Jin's horrified face with an amber glow. "I'm a firebender, Jin."

Jin gasped, the joviality of the moment before gone. She backed away from Zuko.

"That first date- the lanterns- you- that was you?" She pointed a shaking finger at him.

He nodded.

"Your name's not Lee, is it?" she said holding back tears.

Zuko bowed his head. He took a deep breath, and on the exhale, fire sprang from his nostrils. He looked up, unafraid.

"I am Zuko," he said in a strong voice. "Son of Firelord Ozai and Ursa, and the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation." It was over. She knew. "And I really like you," he added softly.

Unable to bear it any longer, Jin fled, sobbing, and Zuko started home.
