One day, the entire world saw a change. The sky pulsed with every conceivable color perceived by the human eye and countless more. Red, blue, yellow, green, purple, gold, black, orange, and white were a few of the ones that could be identified in the shimmering sea of shades and hues. Everyone around the globe witnessed this spectacle of unknown origin.

Gotham City

A vigilante looks up at the barrage of colors visible through the cloud cover obscuring the Gotham sky.

He scowls from his position on a stone gargoyle set into a towering building. Displays such as this never boded well for the safety of the future.

--

Metropolis

An alien looks up at the sky in wonder, the spectacle unlike anything that he has seen in his travels across the earth and through the reaches of space.

He takes in the beauty of what he is witnessing. It is a rare thing that something amazes him these days, but he relishes it all the same.

--

Themiscyra

An Amazon princess watches the sky blaze with light that flows and crashes together, almost alive in its motion.

A light show such as this has not been seen since the gods warred in the heavens in the times before their they ascended from the mortal plane. Powers are at play in the world unlike anything before.

--

Atlantis

An Atlantean king ponders the events witnessed by the entirety of the surface world. The sky illuminated by a force unseen.

This might be harmless, but it can just as easily be the start of something dangerous. He prays to the god of the sea that this does not harm the people of his kingdom.

--

Central City

A speedster notices the roiling colors in the sky above him. His blurring sprint slows down to the point where he is running at the pace of a normal person. Then, he is walking. Finally, he is standing still.

In his life after gaining his speed, his attention is always divided as his brain moves too fast to focus on one thing for too long. But now, he stands speechless at a beautiful sight that takes his breath away and calms him for the first time in so long.

4 years later

"What is this?" Kid Flash asks as the doors open and there is a capsule with a teenager inside.

"Project Kr," Robin says. "They produced a clone of Superman. Referred to as Superboy, he was forcegrown in 16 weeks. His brain is fed information through those things. Apparently, they are called G-gnomes and are bred for telepathy."

"We should get him out of here," Aqualad says. "They will surely craft him into a weapon if he remains here."

"Cool, cool, cool," Kid Flash says. "That explains the whole Superman symbol on his suit and the capsule. But if we are in the Superman division of Cadmus, who is that guy?"

Kid Flash points to the side where a tinted capsule sits. It was hidden in plain sight when they entered because the clone capsule was front and center with the bright lighting.

"Let me scan the files," Robin says. He proceeds to shoot through the system on his holographic screen, trying to find data on the other occupant in the room.

Aqualad walks forward almost unconsciously. His eyes unfocus like he is seeing something else. "A lord of the sea," he mutters underneath his breath. He walks forward and reaches for the capsule before Kid Flash runs and grabs hold of his arm.

"Dude, are you okay?" Kid Flash asks Aqualad. "You kind of zoned out for a second there."

"I am unsure of what can over me," Aqualad says. "I felt something, but it seems to be gone. What happened?"

"You were totally reaching for the capsule with a dazed expression," Kid Flash says.

"I got it," Robin says. "It appears that the inhabitant of that capsule is recently acquired. I mean in the past 24 hours."

"Who is it?" Kid Flash asks.

"All I am getting is a file name," Robin says. "Project Kaiju."

"Is there any connected file?" Aqualad asks.

"There is only a reference to a deleted file," Robin says, the obscurity obviously frustrating him. "Project Silverback. What I can infer from the vague information is that they lost Silverback but gained our buddy Kaiju over here."

"Let's let them out then," Kid Flash says.

Robin tries to warn him, but with a burst of speed, Kid Flash has already hit the release button on both capsules.

When the lid for Project Kaiju lifts, a blond haired guy around the age of sixteen is revealed. A skintight black suit covers his form, a similar style to the clone, but lacking any distinguishing mark. With almost identical synchronization, the occupants of both capsules open their eyes. While Supervoy shot forward with a shout of rage and started attacking, Project Kaiju's brown eyes turn blue with a slit pupil along with his blond hair turning black. Kaiju attacks Aqualad while Supervoy rushes Robin and Kid Flash.

Robin dodges due to the instinctual muscle memory trainer into him by his mentor, the Dark Knight. He throws a pair of birdarangs that just bounce off of Superboy's skin without leaving a mark. Kid Flash'a attack with a barrage of super speed punches into Superboy's side just results in him getting thrown into a wall.

Aqualad is not fairing any better under the attacks by Kaiju. Kaiju seems to prefer slashing attacks unlike the punching that Superboy seems to instinctively use. Aqualad utilizes his hydrokinesis to fight his opponent with a shifting combination of hammers and maces. Whenever he uses his swords, the blades slide off Kaiju's skin as it reacts by turning black and as hard as armor. Relying on weapons that apply more concussive force as opposed to cutting is what it takes to make any progress in the fight against Kaiju. Not that it is much progress. Kaiju seems to be as durable as Superboy from what Aqualad could see from passing glances at the other fight in the room.

When Aqualad concentrates his available water into a dense cannon ball, he hurls it at Kaiju sending him flying into Superboy. Kid Flash and Robin throw themselves out of the way in time to dodge the flying body that crashes into their own enemy.

They move over towards Aqualad to regroup in case the other two decide to team up and attack together. What they were not expecting to happen is that Kaiju and Superboy has a stare off before attacking each other in roars of rage.

They slam into one another, their arms almost blurring as they send blow after blow into each other's body. Kaiju tried to slash across Superboy's face in a move to blind him, but Superboy blocks the arm and slams a fist into Kaiju's face. This sends Kaiju into the wall.

However, it is only a momentary lull in the flow of the fight. Kaiju comes running back at Superboy, tackling him and slamming him into the ground. Kaiju lands blows into Superboy's torso before being head butted by the recovered Superboy. Although slightly concussed by the force of a blow powerful enough to snap his head back, Kaiju was able to catch a punch sent at him by Superboy. They try to overpower each other before Kaiju does something new. He takes an inhale of air before a thrumming sound is heard. It escalates in pitch as a blue light can be seen emitting from Kaiju's mouth.

Upon reaching the height of the charge up process, Kaiju opens his mouth and sends a stream of blue fire straight into Superboy's face. The force of the attack pushes Superboy's head into the floor, forcing it further and further into the ground.

Once it is over, Kaiju sends a final strike into Superboy's head knocking him out. Superboy's face is shown to have mild burns, testifying to the power of the attack being able to surpass even a Kryptonian's invulnerability.

As the fight was going on, Aqualad noticed a small grey circle set into the space on Kaiju's neck where his skull meets his spine. Once it is clear that Kaiju had defeated Superboy and was soon going to turn his attentions on the three sidekicks, Aqualad bursts into action.

He bolts forward as Kaiju is beginning to stand up from his victory over Superboy. Before Kaiju can react, Aqualad places his hand on the grey circle and sends as much electricity into it as he can physically generate.

The eel tattoos along Aqualad's arms light up with blue energy as they produce the maximum charge that Aqualad can conjure up. The bolt of Atlantean magic turned into electrical energy surges from Aqualad and into the grey circle attacked to Kaiju.

With a bright blue and white flash, Kaiju collapses onto the ground besides Superboy with his hair reverting to blond.

"Is that it?" Kid Flash asks in disbelief. "He went down after a shock from Aqua-taser?"

"I guess," Robin says, as shocked as Kid Flash.

They both let out shouts of surprise as they see Kaiju start to wake up. Aqualad returns to the others and prepares to fight the opponent that is starting to get up.

--

As I pick myself up off the floor, I am wondering what the hell happened to me. After a few seconds, it all came rushing back to me.

I broke into a top secret, off the books lab where they were keeping a Titan. Kong, it turns out. I was able to rescue him, but security found me before I could slip back outside. I was weak from absorbing Kong, so they had a chance to take me down. They shocked me to hell and had their Trolls beat three shades of shit out of me.

Upon trying to turn my head, I feel a stabbing pain at the base of my skull. When I feel back there, I touch what feels like an implant. That won't do.

I dig my nails around the edges and start to pull. It hurts like absolute hell, but I push through it. From the feel of it, it is latched onto the bone of my vertebrae.

As I keep pulling, I feel the tendrils of the implant being forcefully extracted from where they were embedded. With one last groan of effort, I rip it out. I see that the implant is a flat grey disk with metallic tendrils coming out of the bottom. The tendrils feel around in the air, looking for something to latch onto.

Knowing that I should probably just destroy this thing, I channel up some atomic fire and blast the implant to ashes.

After that, I try to get up. Once I get to my feet, I notice there is a guy passed out on the floor next to me. He has some burns on his face and he is wearing a suit that has the Superman emblem.

"Shit, did I roast Superman's kid?" I ask myself.

"Yeah, you totally did," I hear a voice off to the side say. "It was awesome."

I turn to see that there are three teenagers in weird outfits. It takes me a second to recognize them as Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad. Then, that means...

"Oh, fuck," I say. "I can't believe that I got caught up in some Justice League shit. You break into one creepy lab and it will inevitably end with more fuss than I want. Goddamnit."

"If it helps, this is an independent solo mission that we are doing," Kid Flash says. Robin looks at him like he is an idiot for revealing that they have no backup.

"That makes it worse!" I say. "Your mentors will definitely be here when they find out that you snuck over on your own!"

"Why don't you want to be involved with the League?" Aqualad asks.

"Let's just say I had a bad run in with a League member that I don't want to repeat and keep it at that," I say. "Fuck it. I guess I am helping you kids on your joyride before your parents ground you."

"You are only a few years older than us," Robin says. "Why do you act like we are children?"

"Don't let this baby face fool you," I say. "I am a smidge older than you think. Now, where did they put my shit?"

I start searching around the lab before I find it in a cabinet. I pull out my shirt and slip it on over the suit they stuck me in. I pull on my pants and lace up my boots. I grab my tactical vest and strap it on. Thigh holster with sidearm gets buckled. Assault rifle with shoulder strap gets looped onto me. Sheathed katana gets strapped to my back. I grab my black helmet and slip it on.

When I look back at the group of sidekicks, they seem slightly unnerved.

"What is it?" I ask. "You guys look a little uncomfortable."

"Why do you look like a mercenary with no qualms to killing?" Robin asks.

I don't really understand his question until I look down at how I am dressed. "Oh, this," I say. "If it makes you feel any better, my guns are just loaded with taser rounds. All the fun, none of the blood."

That does a bit to ease their nerves about the whole thing. I walk over and toss Superboy's unconscious form over my shoulder. "Let's go kick some ass," I say.
