He had been a fool. A complete and utter fool. She had left and he let her go, no questions, no protest, just leave. The one woman who had never asked him to change, he pushed away. And now she was gone.

"I quit. Good-bye House."

It had broken her heat to have to say those words. He had seen that. But what he'd never tell anyone was they broke his too. And yet luck seemed to favor his once more, she had agreed to come back. With a condition, not that he could blame her wariness.

"A date."

He needed her desperately so, and agreed instantly. It had been a disaster, but she was back; it was worth the pain. He had his balance once more. But it changed; Stacey came back. Her presence threatening all that hung from a fine line. Not that he bothered to think of that. No, he was the selfish one and thought only of himself. Stacey however did not stay, and he had been hurt once more, not knowing that it had also hurt another.

"I thought you were too screwed up to love anyone. But I was wrong, you just couldn't love me."

But what she didn't know was that she was wrong, so very wrong. He did love her, but could not let go of the past. So when she walked away, his heart left with her, not with Stacey. This left only one thing left to do. Tell her, work at regaining her trust and love, so that one day he could tell her, just what he meant to him.

"I love you, Cameron."

With any luck her response would be the same. Because this time around there would be no lies. She held his heart in her slender hands. He had been a fool for not realizing it sooner.
