Kneeling over a toilet was something that Diana had never experienced before. And it was something that she never wanted to experience again. In all her life, Diana had never once gotten sick. So to be puking now was a shock to say the least. At least Bulma was right outside to make her feel better.
"Oh how the mighty have fallen." Bulma quipped. Much to the dismay of Diana.
"Oh shut up." She sarcastically retorted. "I guess even an Amazon can get sick." Once again throwing up.
"That reminds me, how did you end up like this? You ate everything I did, so it can't be food poisoning. And Capsule Corp was designed to be free from harmful bacteria. So it's highly unlikely you caught a bug."
"I don't know. Though it might be due to the fact I missed my... What do you call it? Oh, menstrual cycle." Bulma suddenly burst through the door.
"Wait a minute did you just say you've missed it?" Diana tilted her head back in discomfort.
"Well... Yeah." Bulma smirked coming up with a hypothesis.
"Wait here." The blue haired woman sprinted off. Diana was confused by this whole ordeal. However that feeling would only grow as Bulma returned with a white stick. At least that was what Diana believed it to be. "Alright, when you're feeling up for it. I need you to pee on this." Diana looked at her friend in disbelief.
"Um I didn't know you were into that sort of thing." Bulma facepalmed.
"I'm not going to watch! Just trust me on this one." Diana nodded while closing the door. Bulma meanwhile stood waiting outside. The anticipation was killing her. She knew what this could mean. Though she didn't want to get Diana's hopes up. Eventually the Amazon came outside, holding the 'stick' upwards.
"So this just started showing a plus symbol. What does that mean?" Bulma smile widened, far is it could have possibly gone. The CEO screams deafened her friends ears. And proceeded to be heard throughout the house. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing's wrong, far from it in fact. Diana... you're pregnant." The two hugged. The Amazon though was left speechless. She was pregnant. This had never happened to an Amazon before. Her life had just been turned upside down. And it would never be the same again.
.
Five Months Later
Vegeta left the gravity chamber, drenched in sweat. He had been in there god knows how long. Though in his opinion, not enough. Bulma had manually limited the gravity chamber to five hours a day. She said it was to prevent the machine from breaking. Although Vegeta knew the real reason. The princess had gotten herself pregnant. And now he had to act more like a father. The thought almost sickened him. The prince of all Saiyan's refused to care for some half breed trash. No half breeds were ever truly part of the royal family. And this child would be no different. Vegeta eventually ran into Diana. The two glared at each other, until it was the Saiyan who smirked.
"Starting to show a bump are we?" He teased. The Amazon though didn't take too kindly to his insults. Drawing her sword. "Really and what are you going to do in that state?" Diana scowled as she conceded.
"You're a bastard!" She growled. Vegeta confidently paraded past her.
"So is that thing in your stomach." The prince laughed as he made his way past. Diana wanted to scream back in frustration. Let the man know he was wrong. Though Bulma appeared and stopped her.
"Just let it go." She told the Amazon. Who looked like she was going to rip Vegeta's head off. "Don't stoop to his level." Diana reluctantly backed off, not wanting to start anything.
"He makes me so mad!" The warrior ranted
"I know but getting mad is just what he want's." Diana took a deep breath and sat down.
"I know... you're right. It just what he wants. And what I want, is to get the whole thing over and done with. I can't wait!." Bulma sat down next to her friend. Smiling at Diana's sudden optimism.
"Oh so you're excited then?"
"Yeah. At first it was rather scary, but now? Now, I honestly can not wait. Mother was my biggest inspiration growing up on Themyscira. I wish to be just like her. I will teach my daughter to fight just like my mother did for me." At that last comment Bulma's smile dropped.
"Yeah, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. Listen Diana..." Bulma suddenly stopped when the warrior placed her hand on the heiress lap. "What's wrong?"
"She's kicking!" Diana beamed with happiness as she placed her hand where she could feel her child's kick. Bulma gave a light smile. She saw how happy her friend was. And revealing the truth would crush her. For now she had to remain silent.
.
Three Months Later
Diana had felt pain before. Her training as an Amazon made sure of that. Hell she still felt the hole Vegeta left in her stomach. However childbirth definitely topped all of that. It had been three hours since her water broke. Bulma had rushed to get the best doctors available. The doctors tried turning on a television to keep her mind occupied. That failed however. Standing next to her was Vegeta. Though not by choice. Bulma had threatened to kick him out if he didn't show. The Amazon screamed again as the two doctors were hard at work.
"Okay now push!" One of the doctors instructed. Diana once again screamed out. It was all too overwhelming. Then she felt someone grab her right hand. She looked over to see, it was Vegeta. The two quickly smiled at each other before Diana continued. With one large Herculean push, it was done. Crying could be heard as the Amazon took a few deep breaths. Diana felt so relived, she looked on as the doctor wrapped her child in a blanket. "Congratulations it's a boy."
With those words Diana's heart sank. Her child who had blood of the Amazons running through him... was a boy. The doctors and Vegeta left the room in silence. Letting the Amazon rest. Though Diana wouldn't rest. She continued staring at this child for a good five minutes. He looked so innocent, his smile was somewhat heartwarming. But Diana wasn't a fool. She knew what he would grow into. Eventually Diana was interrupted by a very excited Bulma.
"Oh my god! That baby is so cute." She ecstatically said. Though Diana wasn't smiling back.
"Did you know?" The amazon asked, with no emotion in her voice. Bulma's smile slowly disappeared.
"Sorry?"
"Did... you... know?" The warrior's words became more threatening. The CEO meanwhile couldn't even look her friend in the eye.
"They told me after one of your earlier scans." Diana expected betrayal from someone like Vegeta. But never from her best friend. "I didn't tell you because if you'd known... Well. You might have done something drastic."
"That wasn't for you to decide."
"Maybe not. But I'd rather lie than just watch you make the biggest mistake of your life." Diana once again stared at her child. "Just please listen to me. I won't tell you how to be a parent. But that kid needs his mother." Diana didn't want to hear anymore. She shut her friend out.
"Get... out." While no words were uttered, the heiresses face said it all. This wasn't what she wanted. Diana continued staring at this child for a good minute. Her head was filled with a thousand thoughts. None of them good. Until a news report caught her eye.
"Breaking news. The Vlatavan royal building has been seized by terrorists. According to reports, the royal family has been taken hostage. All attempts at rescue so far have proved to be unsuccessful. Princess Perdita was set to be coronated today. However her whereabouts are currently unknown. More on this breaking story, when we return." Diana switched off the television. She had never been to this Vlatava. She didn't know who this Perdita was. But she had to help. Diana left her baby on the bed and tried to suit up. However her costume wouldn't fit.
"By the Gods!" She yelled. Instead putting on some trousers and a hoodie. The Amazon wastes no time in flying out the window.
.
Vlatava was a typical Eastern European country. There were tons of farmland and run down towns. Yet the capital was a whole other story. Skyscrapers, factories and of course, the royal building. All fitted with up to date technology. It was like two separate countries had been smashed together. Diana though only had one thing on her mind, save the hostages. She arrived at the royal building and smashed into the nearest window. She looked around and realised she was in a bedroom. The room was quite extravagant with a king sized bed, purple curtains and gold plated floor. Though that had been tainted red, by the two gunmen in front of her. Diana quickly dispatched of both of them.
Suddenly she heard something inside the giant wardrobe. The Amazon went to pick up her sword. However she realised that it and her shield were left behind. It was a miss but not a total loss. Diana knew that she could continue without it. The floor creaked ever time she took a footsteps. The room had now gone silent. Diana put one hand on the door handle. Without hesitation opening it. Diana looked down to see a trembling little girl standing there. The girl was tiny with white skin, green eyes and curly brown hair. She wore a fancy white dress. The Amazon smiled as she knelt down.
"Hi there, do you speak English?" The warrior asked. The little girl was slightly hesitant. Diana attempted to gain trust by showing her the bracelets she wore. Unlike her costume, those stayed on no matter what. "It's okay. My name is Wonder Woman."
"A pleasure to meet you." The girl stuttered. She clenched her fist, trying to show little fear. To Diana it was quite profound.
"You know your quite brave for an eleven year old."
"I'm twelve." Diana chuckled at the quick response.
"So what's your name?" The little girl looked down, almost ashamed.
"My name... is Perdita." Diana was left stunned. This little girl, was set to become the ruler of an entire country.
"You're the queen?"
"I will be. My father died last week, I am set to take over tonight." Diana lifted the girls head up.
"Your even braver then I thought. Your will is certainly on par with an Amazon's." Perdita smiled in response. "Now let's get out of here before..." Diana couldn't finish as a man entered the room. He too had green eyes and white skin. Though unlike the queen his hair was all white. His shirt and trousers were black. He also wore a coat that was lime green. Diana instantly knew this man was trouble. Perdita meanwhile was left frightened by his sudden appearance.
"Uncle?" The man chuckled as he stared the two down.
"From the very start, I should have done this myself." He confidently said. Diana was about to charge at him, until her whole body became light. The room started to spin. Her stomach started to swirl. Diana fell to the ground unable to move. Perdita was frozen with fear and shock. "So this is the world famous Wonder Woman? I am slightly disappointed."
"Who... are you?" Diana weakly inquired.
"Count Vertigo. Soon to be King Vertigo. Once I've disposed of this little brat." Diana knew she had to get out of whatever hallucination this man was causing.
"You would kill your own niece? Just for power?"
"Of course. She always preaches more freedom for the peasants. Blasphemy. Vlatava was built with them beneath us. And do you want to know the truth?" Vertigo then got uncomfortably close to Diana. "They like it. Mankind craves to be ruled. To fight our wars. I am just giving that to them. By taking my rightful place as king." Vertigo walked over and picked up one of the terrorists guns.
"You're scum." The soon to be king backhanded her for that comment.
"You dare speak to me like that, peasant? I was going to make your death painless. But now? I think I'll take my time. Do not fret however, the brat will soon follow." Vertigo aimed the gun at Diana. Yet before he could pull the trigger a strong wind blew him into the wall. Knocking the royal out. The effects of Vertigo soon stopped. Though Diana was still incredibly weak. She looked up to see Superman hovering above her.
"Hey, let me help you up." The man of steel offered. Though Diana refused. She tried to do it her self, but collapsed on the floor. Clark instantly picked her up. Royal guards then entered the room.
"Princess are you alright?" The head guard shouted out, concerned.
"I am fine thank you. These two saved me from my uncle." Perdita replied. "Please, lock him up." The guards took Vertigo away.
"Anyone ever tell you, you're one scary eleven year old?" Clark joked.
"I'm twelve!" The man of tomorrow laughed.
"I'm sorry you're majesty. And good luck."
"Thank you... Justice League." Clark nodded in appreciation as he flew back towards Capsule Corp. Diana could barely move as she looked at her friend.
"Hey..." She muttered.
"Don't move. Whatever Count Vertigo did to you. It's still taking it's toll. You know I had no idea that you had given birth yet. When did that happen?"
"About... an hour ago." Clark looked down at her shocked. Not quite believing what she just said.
"Wait what?"
.
Diana sat down, She was worn out and longed for rest. However Bulma had other ideas. The heiress was certainly unimpressed by her friend's actions. After Clark had dropped her off Bulma decided to let her feelings known. Vegeta stared on inside not quite believing what he was witnessing.
"I mean what were you thinking? You leave your new born child behind! Go off on some crusade against a metahuman! And leave all your equipment behind! What would have happened to your child if you had been killed?" Bulma ranted.
"The same thing that happens to everyone in man's world." Diana darkly replied. Bulma looked back at her, unsettled. "I fight everyday. Put my life on the line everyday. And what have I accomplished? Man's world will never know true freedom because it doesn't yearn for that. Today has taught me that." Bulma was left speechless. Diana was the most unwavering person she had ever met. And now here she was giving up.
"I don't believe we're beyond redemption."
"Maybe not, but I'm done. I'm done trying to get though to a world that won't listen." Just as Bulma was about to argue a blue portal suddenly appeared from out of nowhere. Vegeta readied for battle. Though nobody expected the man who stepped out. The man wore big black armour and a horned helmet. The trio couldn't see his face, only two bright red eyes. Vegeta was about to attack, until he noticed Diana kneeling. "Lord Ares? It is an honour." Bulma was left speechless.
"Hang on Ares? You mean this is the god of war?"
"Please rise Diana." Ares said, not even acknowledging the other two. "I'm here to make you an offer Diana."
"What kind of offer?" The Amazon asked.
"How would you like to live in Olympus?" Everyone was shocked by the gods offer. "You're special Diana. More than you know. And your talents are wasted here, fighting a never ending war."
"I..."
"I know what just happened. And what you are questioning. You finally understand why the gods of Olympus gave up on this planet centuries ago. Humanity is greedy, selfish and ugly."
"Who are you calling ugly!" Bulma yelled, attempting to attack the war god. Until Vegeta held her back. Ares though still didn't even look at her.
"So what will it be Diana? Will you continue to waste your existence fighting for people who could care less if you perished? Or join me in Olympus, and fulfil your destiny?" Diana was torn. She looked at her human and saiyan. Then back at the olympian.
"I'll do it." Both Bulma and Vegeta both we're surprised by her decision. Bulma most of all.
"Diana, you can't be serious?" She questioned her friend. "What about your son?" Diana stared at her child. He was sleeping, looking so innocent. But Diana knew what he'd grow into. What all men grew into.
"He's your responsibility now. Goodbye Bulma. You too... Vegeta." With those final words Diana followed Ares though the portal. The Amazon was gone. The child started to cry out. Bulma thought maybe deep down he knew his mother had abandoned him. Vegeta smirked as he went inside. Leaving Bulma to try and silence this child's crying.
"Shh. It's alright. It's alright. Long as I'm here, you'll never be alone. Isn't that right?" Bulma soon realised that Diana hadn't actually given this child a name. And Vegeta didn't seem to even consider him his son. So she decided to name him herself. "How about... Trunks?"
.
So... I know having Diana do this may seem out of character but I love stories where a hopeful character gets pushed beyond their breaking point and has to learn to find it again. Think Luke in The Last Jedi, or Thor from Avengers Endgame. I honestly get why some people don't like these stories. And if you're one of those people then sorry. But I hope you stick with it and see where it goes.
Anyway next chapter is the start of the androids. Androids to Cell will be a really long time so I hope you enjoy.
Reviews:
DragonDave45: That would be spoilers I'm afraid.
x3runner:
1: Interesting. All i will say is at some point. Goku and Superman's ideologies will clash.
2: Yeah I felt right. Having her kill Thawne too certainly added to the irony.
3: Cool idea but I've got something else in mind.
4: Yeah it was so important that he knew the true cost of his actions.
Blazenite104: Honestly i'm not going to make too many changes. Other wise the first nighty chapters would have been for nothing. Mainly minor changes from here on out.
Dark Flacon:
1: Yeah Im sort of glad its finally over.
2: This is still Batman we're talking about. Though this is the start of his character arc.
3: Thank you.
SailorDragonball87: He did die in the explosion. However since Flash reverted the timeline it wouldn't have mattered if he had survived.
Guest 1: Not what you were expecting huh?
Jabs: Yeah... Please don't hate me.
Cruden: Yes that was always going to stick.
Guest 2: They were never together. It was just a one time thing. (Though things can change.)
