Monday came. Dave and Rosie headed to the school for 10am. They were brought into a classroom.

Mr. Darvis. Her guidance counselor and the other student and his parents were all there. It wasn't long till an argument started. Between the other students parents and Mr. Darvis.

The guidance counselor spoke. "I have a suggestion." She said loudly causing everyone to calm down.

She held up two tests. "These are two other versions of the same test. Have them take them. If they know the material it wont be an issue."

"Why would we put our son through the stress of another test. He tells us this young lady isn't as studious as him. Its clear she cheated." The father said

"I have no issues retaking the exam." Rosie said

"No one was asking you." The other student said.

"Actually. They were. And if you didn't cheat. Prove it!" Rosie said

"I don't have to prove anything." He said. "Mr. Darvis knows which one of us is the better student."

"I agree with Ms. Stein. Both will redo the exam. If they refuse it will be assumed they were the one who cheated." Mr. Darvis said

Mr. Darvis went to his desk and pulled out two sets of supplies that would be needed for the exam and placed them on desk opposite side of the room.

Rosie moved to one of the desks and the other student knew he didn't have a choice and moved to the other.

Mr. Darvis looked at the rest of the adults in the room. "Two hours is the amount of time for the exam. Come back than."

They all left.

Rosie and the other student started through the exam. Rosie had to keep her anxiety in check a few times. This had taken her off guard. She was not mentally prepared, but she knew she had a lot to prove.

It took her the full two hours. But she did finish. Mr. Darvis took her test. Went over to the other student who had also finished.

Mr. Darvis sat down at his desk and started grading. The other student got up. "Now that I have wasted hours of my summer can I go?" He asked

"Sit down." Mr. Darvis said

"As I said its summer. You no longer have control over me." He said

"Sit down or you fail my class." Mr. Darvis said

The student sat down with a grumble.

The tests were graded. Mr. Darvis looked up. "Your parents will be back shortly. I can definitively tell who knew this material better. This is your last chance to fess up. Telling the truth will save me suggesting to the principal your expulsion."

"You better confess. You know actually don't. I don't want to have to see your face every again." The other student said.

"I wont confess to something I didn't do." Rosie said

"I'm not asking you to. I'm asking you to confess to something you did do." The other student said.

"Enough. Both of you." Mr. Darvis said. "The only words I want to hear out of either of you is I did it. Otherwise, quiet till your parents get here."

The parents and guidance counselor returned soon after.

Mr. Darvis went outside with them showing them the tests.

The other students parents went into the room. "lets go son." They said. The boy got up and went with them.

Dave went into the room and went to his daughter.

"I-I was panicked. Its why I failed this one. I swear I didn't cheat." Rosie said having a full-on anxiety attack.

"Rosie. No. you didn't fail." Dave said

"I didn't." She said looking up at Mr. Darvis.

"No. You didn't. You got 100%" He said

Rosie gasped. "What?"

"I am so unbelievable proud of you." Dave told his daughter.

"And I am incredibly sorry that I doubted you." Mr. Darvis said

Rosie nodded.

"And am impressed at the maturity. For the most part. In which you handled this situation." Mr. Darvis said.

"For the most part?" Dave asked

Rosie bit her lip.

"When they were both done the exams. I gave them both the option to admit to cheating. I knew already who it was, but I wanted to see if he would admit it and show any signs of being sorry. The two of them traded comments back and forth about who needed to admit it. Started by him but she had her share of words." Ms. Darvis said

"Sorry." Rosie said. "I really thought I had failed it this time. And I thought for sure you thought it was me. I was so worried I would be blamed, and I wanted him to admit it, so you knew the truth."

Mr. Darvis nodded. "I get it. But this proves to me that you are very capable. Even when under great stress. So, if I teach you again in the future I expect the same level of ability." He said

Rosie nodded. "Yes Sir."

"I'm wondering why she wasn't expected to get tests signed." Dave said

"I know that sometimes students failing can be a big deal and cause parents to overreact. Its why I never force it. However, it is highly encouraged that students do." Mr. Darvis said

Dave looked at his daughter.

"I didn't want to disappoint you. I thought I could bring the grade up myself. I was wrong." Rosie said

Dave nodded. "I hope it wont happen again."

"It wont. I promise." Rosie said

"And Miss Rossi. Because of how well you handled yourself. Your final exam grade will be todays mark." Mr. Darvis said

Rosie smiled. "Thank you!"

"You earned it. Now go. Enjoy your summer." Mr. Darvis said.

Rosie got up and went with her dad.

"Did you tell the family about the situation?" Rosie asked

"I was with Derek when you texted me. I was driving he read the text. And Spencer asked me about how your week was. I told him." Dave said

Rosie took out her phone and texted Spencer.

'I wanted to personally tell you I didn't cheat. And I proved that today. By redoing the same exam. Different version. This time I got 100%. And that is the grade my teacher is going to use.' She texted him.

Spencer got the text. He was at his desk. "Yes!" He said out loud.

Derek looked up from his desk "What's so exciting pretty boy?"

"Rosie. Had to redo the exam. I guess to prove she didn't cheat. But she got a perfect score and that's the mark that her teacher is going to use." Spencer said

"Good for her." Derek said. "I'd watch out. You might be teaching your future replacement." He said with a smirk

Spencer shook his head and texted back.

'Congratulations I'm proud. And for the record. I never thought you cheated. I know your better than that.' Spencer responded.

Rosie smiled when she got the text. "I'm glad people know me well enough to know I wouldn't cheat."

Dave smiled. "Because you're a good kid."

"And I know if I ever tried. I'd get busted. And its not worth the disappointment from the people I love. And its also just not right." Rosie said.

Dave nodded. "When you told me you were punished for the accusation before?"

"You heard what they did to me in court…" She said

Dave nodded. "You know that would never be what happened with me. Even if you did cheat. Right?"

"Yes. I know I would be punished. But I also know you would verify it before you did." Rosie said

"I would wait for you to tell me. Even if I knew it to be true. You would admit it before any consequences. But yes. You would be in big trouble." Dave said, "But not abused."

Rosie took a breath and nodded. "Like I said. I know."

Dave nodded. "I get its hard for you to talk about. I'm never going to force you to talk to me about it."

"I just. You know. I don't see why I need to talk about it more." She said

"Okay." Dave said dropping it. "What would you like for lunch?"

"Not hungry." Rosie said

"Rosie. You need to eat." Dave said

"I'm not going to eat if I'm not hungry." She said

"You barely ate all weekend. I have let it slide. But I don't like the path you are going down." Dave said

Rosie sighed and shook her head. "I'm. Not. Hungry." She said. Stress played a huge role in every teens mood. Rosie was no different. She had been under so much stress and worry and now that it was released she was tired, and it meant that she was going to be snarky for a period. Dave had learnt that about his daughter fairly early on. And he gave her some leeway. He figured like before it would be a couple days and as long as it didn't get worse he would just let it ride out.

Dave shook his head. He pulled in the driveway.

Rosie got out and went inside and to her room.

Dave sighed. He went up and knocked.

"What?" she asked attitude dripping

Dave opened the door. Drop the attitude. I know you are coming down from a high stressful situation, but disrespect will not be tolerated." He said

"Whatever." She said

Dave took a breath. "I'm going into the office. When I get home I expect the change in attitude, or you will find your self over my knee. Am I clear?"

Rosie took a breathe but didn't respond.

"I'm taking that as a yes." He said turning around to go.

"Well, it wasn't." She mumbled.

Dave took a breath turned back to his daughter. "Rose. You have had a long morning. But it ended well. Lets not start your summer off with me upset with you. So, what was that?" he asked

"I said. Well, it wasn't." She said she really needed to learn self perseverance at some point, but it wasn't that day.

Dave went over to his daughter bed where she was sitting and sat down. He pulled her across his lap without hesitation and landed half a dozen swats.

Rosie yelped.

"Is the attitude done?" he asked

"Y-yes." Rosie said

Dave sat her up and gave her a hug.

"Sorry." Rosie said

"Its forgiven. Now. Please eat." Dave said

Rosie nodded.

Dave kissed her head and headed out to the office.

Rosie took a breath and went and grabbed something to eat before curling up with a book in the library to read.
