Rosie was outside in the backyard enjoying the sun and pool. She heard someone in the backyard next door. The neighbours had moved out a few weeks ago and she knew they were going to have some new neighbours, but she hadn't realized they had moved in. Or rather were moving in that day. She saw a couple movers putting some lawn furniture in the back. Rosie knew better than to stare so she went back to swimming. After a bit she started to practice some diving. She had been taught how to dive from a young age. But since everything happened she hadn't wanted to dive. It brought back to many memories that made her sad. They were some of the only happy memories she had and that made her sad. But she had decided she wasn't going to let her past affect doing the things that make her happy.
"You need to bend your knees more." A male voice said.
Rosie looked up.
There was a young man standing on the other side of the fence looking at her.
"Um. Okay. Thanks." Rosie said
"I'm Seb. Your new neighbour." He said
"I'm Rose." Rosie said
"Nice to meet you." He said
Rosie nodded "Same"
"You dive for fun or?" He asked
"Just for fun. Its been awhile since I have. Which is why I'm rusty." Rosie said
Seb nodded
"You look familiar." Rosie said
"Do I? Hrm. I don't know. Must have one of those faces." He said
Rosie nodded. She got a bad vibe from the guy.
"If you want I can help you? I was a diver in highschool." He offered.
"No. That's okay. Thanks though." She said
He nodded and went back inside the house.
Rosie took a breathe. She grabbed her towel and went back inside.
"Done swimming?" Dave asked
Rosie nodded.
"What's wrong?" Dave asked. He could tell something was off.
"Nothing." She said. "New neighbours are moving in."
"Oh." Dave said, "Meet any of them?"
"Guy. About eighteen I think." She said "Seb he told me his name was. Maybe short for Sebastian."
Dave nodded
"Seems to know about diving." Rosie said
"Ah. Yeah. I noticed. I didn't know you knew how to." He said
"Well. I used to be better. I'm abit rusty." Rosie said
"Self taught?" He asked
"No. Um. Someone I used to know taught me." Rosie said
Dave nodded "Very nice." He said. "You want to join a diving team?" He asked
"Nope. Don't like it enough to put that amount of time and energy into it." Rosie said
"Okay." He said
Dave went outside to the neighbours and introduced himself realizing the young man lived alone. Dave was curious how the young man could afford a house in this neighbourhood but didn't question it. He went back inside when he was done talking to the young man.
Rosie was watching a movie.
"Pause please." Dave said
Rosie did so and looked up at her dad.
"Don't spend time alone with the neighbour." Dave said
"You got the bad vibe off him too?" Rosie asked
"You didn't tell me you got a bad vibe." Dave said
"I didn't want to seem like I was overreacting…" She said
"Always trust your gut." Dave said
Rosie nodded. "I'll keep my distance."
"Thank you." Dave said.

A week passed. Rosie was in the back yard again. It was the hottest day of the year, and she was taking full advantage of the pool.
Seb came outside and smiled at her. Rosie smiled back politely.
"Can I get your assistance with something?" Seb asked
"Um. What?" Rosie asked.
"I need to get something out of the back of the crawl space under the house and I'm to big to fit. Any chance you could get it for me?" Seb asked
Rosie took a breath. Everything in her was telling her it was a bad idea. But she didn't want to come off as rude.
"Sure." She said. She went inside and texted a friend. 'If I don't text you again in twenty-minutes call my dad and tell him I am at Seb's' she sent with her dad's number before she threw on some clothes over her bathing suit and went next door. She followed Seb who was waiting to the crawl space and Seb pointed out what he needed. Rosie crawled in and grabbed the item and brought it out.
"Thank you." Seb said
Rosie nodded. "No problem. How did you get it in there?"
"It's something the old neighbours left behind." He said. "Want to come in for some iced tea?" He asked
"I shouldn't. My dad is going to be home soon, and we have plans." She said
Seb nodded. "Okay. Another time."
Rosie nodded and went back to her place and texted her friend. 'All is good.'
Her friend called her.
Rosie answered
"Just making sure its actually you. Who is Seb?" The girl asked
"New neighbour. He needed help with something. My dad and I both get a bad vibe off of him. I'm not supposed to go over there but you know when someone asked you for help its hard to say no…" Rosie said
"Urg. Yes. Don't want to be rude." The girl said
"It wasn't a hard thing, so I'm all done and good." Rosie said
"Okay. Good." The girl said
The two girls talked for awhile before Dave came home and Rosie hung up. Rosie was sitting on the couch.
"How was your day?" Dave asked
"Fine." Rosie said
Dave noticed a lot of dirt on her shirt. "What did you get into?" He asked
Rosie looked up at him.
"Your shirt. Has dirt on it." He said
Rosie looked at her shirt. "Oh." She said
"So. Where did you get into dirt?" He asked
"Helping. Ms. Jarvis getting something out of her crawl space." Rosie said. She was half lying but she knew it was better that way. Better for her anyways.
"Ooh. Okay." Dave said. "Very kind of you."
Rosie shrugged. "No big deal."
Rosie went and got changed and the two of them went out for dinner.
