Rosie woke up with her alarm the next morning. She stretched before picking up her phone and put on a playlist to help her wake up and get moving. She went into her bathroom and brushed through her hair. She pulled it into a high ponytail before washing her face and going through her skincare routine. When she was done with that she went back into her bedroom and went to her dresser and pulled out a pair of jeans. These were the coolest jeans she had ever owned. They were a dark wash skinny high-rise jeans. They had two zippers on each pocket. They weren't functional pockets just cool looking. She put them on. It was almost as if they had been specially made for her. They fit her perfectly. She went to her closet and pulled out a red sweater. It had two white lines on each sleeve at the elbows. She had on her silver hoop earring. She basically never took them off at this point. She grabbed her shoes out of her closet. A pair of high-top converse. They were black with white stars. She grabbed her backpack and went downstairs. Sascha was following

Dave was in the kitchen making eggs and bacon.

"Good morning." She said as she opened the backdoor and let the dog out

"Morning." Dave said, "How did you sleep?" he asked

"Good." She said, "What about you?"

"I sleep well." He said

Rosie nodded and went to the fridge and grabbed some orange juice. Dave plated up breakfast and they both sat down and ate.

"So, what was this news you have?" Dave asked

Rosie smirked. "You made me go to bed you don't get to know." She said

"Funny." He said

"Well two things I guess. Nolan and I are I guess official I guess the right word is." Rosie said

Dave nodded and smiled. "I knew that was a matter of time."

"And the other news. Um. Long story and not really mine to tell but Nolan is starting at my school today." Rosie said

Dave took a sip of his coffee and nodded. "Not going to give me any information as to why?"

"Nope. Not my story to tell." Rosie said

Dave nodded.

They both finished eating and cleared the table. Rosie went and let the dog inside and gave him his food.

Dave went upstairs to get himself ready. When he came back down he looked at his daughter "You're ready?" Dave asked her.

Rosie made sure Sascha was done eating before she got him in his create. "Yup." She said, "You be a good boy I'll be home later today."

Sascha was to busy with his bone to notice.

She chuckled and left with her dad who dropped her off at school. She texted Nolan. 'When you get to school I will be waiting by the front door for you.'

Rosie went inside the school. And stood waiting for Nolan.

Nolan came in shortly after her and went over to her. "Hey." He said

"Hey. How are you feeling?" She asked

"I'm okay." He said.

"So do you have your homeroom?" Rosie asked

"Yes." Nolan said pulling out a piece of paper from his pocket and telling her what room. "Hey, we have the same homeroom." She said with a smile. "The teacher is awesome."

Nolan smiled and took her hand. "Well show me where it is."

Rosie went with him "How many people have you told you were coming here?" She asked

"Sent a mass text to everyone whose number I have after telling you." He said.

As they were walking they ran into Taylor.

"Hey you two!" Taylor said

"Hey!" Rosie said

"Hi." Nolan said

"You showing him around?" Taylor asked

"Yup. He has the same homeroom as us." Rosie said

"Great!" Taylor said.

She joined the two of them and they showed Nolan around the whole school running into a few more friends along the way. Ending up at their homeroom and people went their separate ways and Rosie, Taylor and Nolan went into homeroom and took seats together.

Their day started. They got their scheduled and compared. Rosie had another class with each of them. When homeroom was done Rosie showed Nolan to his next class before rushing to her own.

At lunch Rosie got to the lunch table first with her lunch tray. Nolan had the last class with Taylor who would bring him to their table. Pierce was the first to join her.

"Hey." He said

"Hi." She said

"I have a question for you before anyone else gets here." He said

"Don't." She said looking up at him narrowing her eyes.

"Nolan already talked to you?" Pierce asked

"Yes." She said. "And frankly it is none of your damn business until she is ready to tell you." Rosie said

"I'm her brother." He said

"Yes. Her brother. Not her father." Rosie said

"No. Because our father is dead." He said

"I know. And I'm sorry about that. But think back to before he passed. You are Taylor were tight. Right?" She asked

Pierce nodded.

"And when he passed you decided you had to step up and protect her from all the evils in the world." Rosie said "And she lost her father and big brother in one go. You are just starting to become close again. Don't. Fucking. Ruin. That." Rosie said

"Damn. You have an opinion don't you." Pierce said

"You don't know my whole story. But let me tell you. I lost -everything." She said "everything." She reiterated.

Pierce nodded.

"You lost your father and that is awful. But you still have your sister and your mom. Don't lose that because you are trying to hard to play a role you are not supposed to play." Rosie said

Pierce nodded. "You been planning that speech for awhile I take it." He said

Rosie chuckled and nodded. "Since Nolan told me you asked him to ask me. I figured you wouldn't be far behind in asking me."

"I will take what you said under advisement." He said

"Pierce. If you don't. You will lose her. And you wont get her back." Rosie said

Pierce nodded.

Cass sat with them at that moment. "Jeeze what the hell have you two been talking about? I can feel the tension."

Rosie and Pierce smirked.

"Wouldn't you like to know?" Rosie said

"Yes. That's why I asked." Cass said

"To bad you don't get to know." Rosie said.

Slowly everyone else joined them. Nolan took the seat next to Rosie.

"Hey." Rosie said to him.

"Hey." He said as he kissed her cheek

Rosie smiled and looked down trying to hide her blush. Looking up a few seconds later.

Everyone ate.

"So. Are you two official now?" Cass asked

Nolan chuckled. "Nothing has changed. You are still nosy."

Rosie smirked.

"Of course, I am." Cass said. "Its in my nature." She said with a chuckle

"Yes." Rosie said. "We are boyfriend and girlfriend."

"About time." Pierce said with a smirk.

"Agreed." Taylor said

They finished lunch and all went to their next class.

They finished their days and head out to cars and busses. Nolan took Rosie's hand. "Come. I'll drive you home." He said

Rosie smiled and said bye to the others before going with him.

"How was your first day at the new school?" Rosie asked

"Pretty good." Nolan said. "Felt pretty similar."

"Good." She said.

"How about you?" Nolan asked

"Really good first day. Better than last year that's for sure. Not that last year was bad really just it was new, and I was so nervous." Rosie said

Nolan nodded. "I cant imagine. It's a new school for me but I already have lots of friends that I know. And a girlfriend." He said with a smile. "And not on the other side of the country. While still adjusting to a new living situation. You are so incredible strong." He said

Rosie chuckled. "I broke down everyday for eight months. Nothing about that screams strong."

"Okay. You broke down but you picked yourself up and kept going." Nolan said. "And to me you seem like you are thriving now."

Rosie smiled and nodded. "I'm doing better now but that is because of a lot of therapy and even more patience from the people in my life."

Nolan smiled and pulled into her driveway. "Do you need a ride tomorrow to school?" he asked

"I mean I can take the bus." She said

"I want to pick you up. Its on the way." He said

Rosie smiled. "Okay."

She leaned over and gave him a kiss before getting out and going inside.

Sascha came to the door and jumped around her feet excited to see her. "Hey Sascha. How did you get out of your crate?" she asked. Putting her bag down by the door.

"Dad?" She called out. She didn't see his car when she got home.

Ms. Jarvis came in from the other room. "Hey sweetie. Your dad had to go out of state for work."

Rosie smiled. "Hi. Okay."

"There are some carrot cake squares in the kitchen." Ms. Jarvis said "And I've let Sascha outside already."

Rosie grinned. "Thank you!" she went off and grabbed herself one. Carrot cake was her favorite. "How is your sister doing?" Rosie asked.

"Better. Much better." Ms. Jarvis said

"Glad to hear it." Rosie said grabbing herself a glass of milk to go with her treat.

"How was your first day?" Ms. Jarvis asked

"Good." Rosie said.

"Like all your teachers?" Ms. Jarvis asked

"Five out of the eight teachers are the same as last year and they are all good teachers. The teacher for photography is the teacher who runs the photography club, so I know him as well and he is fantastic. And the two new ones seem good so far." Rosie said

"Its great when you have the same teachers a couple years in a row. It means they know you and know how you learn." Ms. Jarvis said

Rosie nodded. "Also means they know what you are capable of…"

"Meaning you cant get away without doing your best." Ms. Jarvis said with a smile

"Yeah…" Rosie said with a small chuckle

Rosie enjoyed her treat. "Don't tell my dad but your better at baking than him."

Ms. Jarvis chuckled. "It will be our secret." She sat with the girl, and they talked about her first day and about her boyfriend. "Do you have any homework?" Ms. Jarvis asked when their conversation was dying down.

"Just need to get organized." Rosie said, "And need to pick a book for a book report."

"Ooh. Any idea what book you might choose?" Ms. Jarvis asked

"I'm deciding between the scarlet letter and the perks of being a wallflower." Rosie said

"Ooh. I have read both. They are both very good." Ms. Jarvis said

Rosie nodded "I have both. So, I will be reading both but just need to decide which one I will read first."

Ms. Jarvis smiled and nodded.

Rosie put her plate and glass in the dishwasher, made sure Sascha water bowl was filled before she went and grabbed her bag before heading upstairs to her room. She changed into some sweats and a big t-shirt before pulling everything out of her bag and organizing into each binder for each subject. She than decided on the scarlet letter for her book and sat in her window seat and starting to read. Sascha jumped up and snuggled into her as she read. While she was reading her phone went off with a text from her dad.

'How was your first day?'

Rosie replied 'It was good. What state are you in?'

'Glad to hear it. Good teachers? I'm in California.' He said

'five of the same teachers as last year and photography teacher is the same as the club. The other two seem good so far' Rosie send

'Good' He said

'What part of California?' She asked

'LA.' He said

Rosie went back to reading.

There was a knock on her door a couple hours later.

"Yes?" She said

Ms. Jarvis peaked her head in. "Dinner will be ready in a few minutes."

"Okay. I'll be down shortly." Rosie said

Ms. Jarvis went back downstairs.

Rosie put a bookmark into her book and went downstairs the dog following behind closely.

She served herself dinner which was a roast with potatoes and carrots. "Smells delicious." She said

They both sat down and ate dinner.

"You decide on a book?" Ms. Jarvis asked

"The scarlet letter." Rosie said

"Good choice." Ms. Jarvis said

"Would you have said differently if I picked the other book?" Rosie asked with a smirk

"No." Ms. Jarvis said chuckling.

"I have started reading it." Rosie said, "I like it so far." She said

Ms. Jarvis nodded. Rosie finished her plate and went and put her dishes in the dishwasher.

She helped Ms. Jarvis clean up from dinner.

"Would you like a roast sandwich for lunch tomorrow?" Ms. Jarvis asked.

Rosie smiled. "Yes please." She said

"I'll put in a few pieces of the carrot squares you can share with your friends." Ms. Jarvis said

Rosie smiled. "They are going to love you as much as I do." She said

Ms. Jarvis smiled. "I remember how happy it made my kids to bring baked treats to their friends."

"Thank you." Rosie said

"Your welcome." She said with a smile

Rosie finished helping her before heading to her room and back to her book.

A couple hours later her phone rang with a video chat. She answered it. "Hi dad."

"Just wanted to check in and say goodnight." He said

Rosie looked at the time. "Its barley 8." She said

"I know." Dave said with a smile

"It will be a couple hours before I head to bed." She said

"You do any homework you have?" He asked

"Yup. Just needed to organize and pick a book for a book report." Rosie said as she held up the book.

"Good." He said

"And I had a good meal. Ms. Jarvis made a roast. And carrot cake squares." Rosie said

Dave smiled. "Good. I'm glad she takes such good care of you."

"She is definitely the grandmother I have always wanted." Rosie said

"I would like you to go to bed before ten tonight." He said

"Dad. Come on. I don't have any issues getting up in the morning. I'd get enough sleep if I go to bed at midnight. Which I don't do." Rosie said

"Ten at the latest." He said

"10:30." She said

"Rosie. Are you arguing with me?" Dave asked

"Yes. I am. Because you are treating me like I'm in elementry school." Rosie said

"Ten. At the latest. I don't want to hear anymore arguments about it." He said

Rosie sighed. "Fine." She said clearly annoyed

"Thank you." He said

"Whatever." She said

"Rose. You can drop the attitude." He said

"You're treating me like a child you are going to get me acting like a child." She said

"Rosie." He said in a warning tone.

"I have to go. Finish up reading this chapter and start getting ready for bed. Night." She said before she hung up not giving him a chance to say anything else.

Dave sighed and pinched the top of his nose shaking his head.

"You alright?" Morgan said as he came into the room.

"Yes." Dave said. "Just dealing with a teenager."

"Ah." Morgan said, "She giving you a hard time?"

"Abit yes." Dave said, "But nothing I cant handle when I get home." He said before he went with the other man to go talk to a suspect.

Rosie was also frustrated. She couldn't focus to read anymore at this point. She went to the bathroom and put her hair up in a bun. Washing her face removing what was left of the makeup from the day. She hopped in the shower. When she was done she got dressed in pajamas and went downstairs and made herself some tea.

Ms. Jarvis saw her in the kitchen. She had spent enough nights here to know when the girl was making tea something was wrong.

"Everything okay?" Ms. Jarvis asked

"Just tired of my dad treating me like a child." Rosie said

Ms. Jarvis nodded. "What happened?"

"He video chatted me and told me I needed to be in bed by ten at the latest. I don't have issues getting up for school. I don't know why he feels the need to give me a bedtime like I'm ten years old." Rosie said

Ms. Jarvis nodded. "I understand how you're feeling."

"But you also get his side of things." Rosie said reading into the way the older woman had spoke.

"Yes." Ms. Jarvis said. "Sleep is really important for a teenagers brain. Just the same as for a younger child."

Rosie sat with her tea and nodded. "But aren't I the best at determining if I am getting enough sleep?"

"Well. Yes. To a certain degree." Ms. Jarvis said sitting across from her. "You know best if you are tired yes. But sometimes teenagers. Even when they know they are tired and need more sleep wont get it."

"Okay. Sure. But I'm not one of them. If I was tired enough to go to bed at ten I wouldn't be arguing it. But all that's going to happen is I'm going to lay in bed and stare at the black walls for an hour or longer till I am actually tired enough to fall asleep." Rosie said

"Okay. And if you went to bed at say eleven would you be able to fall asleep right away or would it be the same staring at the walls till your body relaxes?" Ms. Jarvis said

"When I am tired enough I fall asleep pretty quickly." Rosie said

Ms. Jarvis nodded. "Does your dad know this?"

"Don't know. Probably not. Never really have been discussed." Rosie said

"Maybe you should tell him that." Ms. Jarvis said. "When he gets home."

Rosie nodded she sipped at her tea.

"You know its normal for teens to disagree with their parents." Ms. Jarvis said

"I know." Rosie said her lips turning up a small smile.

She finished her tea and looked at her watch. "I should probably head up. Try and read abit more before ten." She said

"Okay. Goodnight." Ms. Jarvis said

"Good night." Rosie said as he put her cup in the dishwasher and heading up to bed.
