Rosie was cleaning her bathroom. It was in need of a good deep clean and she had been putting it off. She had been so busy with everything she had going on that she hadn't found the time. She was emptying everything out of the drawers in her vanity. Checking expire dates on all the products and throwing away anything that was empty, dried out or expired. She couldn't believe how many items of makeup and skin care she had acquired in just eighteen months. She opened the bottom drawer. She didn't use that drawer and wasn't expecting to find anything but dust. She took a breath and picked up the necklace. She had forgotten about. It had belongs to Beatrice. She thought back to the day she was given it.
*flashback*
"This is a family heirloom. Passed down through the generations. Oldest daughter to oldest daughter. It belonged to my grandmother. And her mother before." Beatrice told her handing it to her.
"Not your mother?" Rosie asked
"Um. No. Not from that side. My father's side. His mother didn't have any daughters. So, it went to the oldest son's oldest daughter." Beatrice said.
Beatrice put it around her neck and put it on her. "Now it belongs to you. And your daughter if you should ever have one."
Rosie touched it. It had a very unique design something she didn't recognize but she loved it.
"Thank you." Rosie said.
"It belongs to you. That's just the way it works." Beatrice said
Rosie nodded.
*end flashback*
She took a picture of it. And sent it to Becca. 'Ask grandpa if this is a family heirloom. Beatrice told me it was years ago when she gave it to me.'
Becca got the text and looked at the picture and smiled. She recognized the charm as something that was significant in their family. She went to grandpa.
"Grandpa. Rosie sent me a picture of a necklace. It has our family's emblem as a charm." She said showing him.
Grandpa looked at it and took a breath nodding. "That had belonged to Bianca. Where did she get it?"
"Beatrice gave it to her." Becca said
"Beatrice shouldn't have had it in the first place. But yeah. Technically it belongs to Rosie now. Oldest daughter to oldest daughter." Kele said
Becca texted Rosie back 'Yes. It's a family heirloom. It belonged to your mother. And following tradition it belongs to you now. He doesn't know how Beatrice got it, but she gave it to who it belongs to.'
Rosie took a breath. She looked at the necklace and went downstairs.
"Your bathroom clean?" Dave asked. Truth was he had been after her for weeks to get it cleaned.
"Working on it. But does this look familiar?" She asked him holding up the necklace
Dave took it looking at it. "You were wearing it when I saw you at the lookout in California."
"Don't recognize it from before than?" Rosie asked
"Don't think so. Should I?" Dave asked
"I don't know. Beatrice gave it to me telling me it was a family heirloom passed down through the generations oldest daughter to oldest daughter kind of thing. When I came here I thought if that was the case than it really didn't belong to me being unaware of the entire situation. I took it off and threw it in the bottom drawer in my bathroom vanity forgetting about it. Found it today and knowing what I know now. I sent a picture to Becca to show grandpa. It had belonged to mom. And actually, it is mine. But he doesn't know how Beatrice could have gotten it… My thought was if she was the person who got all of Bianca's stuff. Ashes and all." Rosie said
Dave nodded. "I'm looking into that. But I don't recognize that. Your mom never wore it. I would remember."
Rosie nodded
"Doesn't mean she didn't have it. I didn't make a habit of going through her things." Dave said
Rosie chuckled. "Why do I feel like if you did she would have been pissed."
"She would have been. She was very private." Dave said
Rosie nodded.
"But if it is really yours. Are you going to wear it?" Dave asked
Rosie smiled and nodded.
Dave motioned for her to turn around. Rosie did so lifting her hair out of the way. Dave put the necklace on for her. "Have I ever told you how much you look like her?"
"Well. I have seen pictures. I have her eyes. But I look a lot like you too." Rosie said
Dave smiled and nodded. "A good mixture of both."
Rosie touched the necklace. Dave turned her around and held her chin, so she was looking at him.
"She would be so proud of you. How far you have come. How hard you work. The kind of person you are." Dave told her.
Rosie smiled.
Dave let her chin go and hugged her.
Rosie hugged him. "I should get back to cleaning."
"Go." Dave said
Rosie went back and finished cleaning her bathroom. Looking at herself in the mirror when she was done touching the necklace and taking a breath.
She went into her bedroom and did a quick tidy of that as well.
When she was done she looked over at Sascha. He had been laying in his dog bed as she cleaned. "You want to go for a walk?"
Sascha jumped up and ran downstairs. Rosie chuckled and grabbed her coat from her closet and went downstairs. "Slow down boy. You're going to get hurt." She said
"Dad. I'm taking Sascha for a walk." Rosie called out
"Okay. Make sure you wear a hat." Dave said
Rosie smiled and took her hat out of the sleeve of her coat and put it on her head before putting her boots on than her coat. She zipped it up grabbing the dogs leash from the front closet and attaching it to his collar. She grabbed her gloves from the pocket of her coat and put those on as well before going outside with the dog and starting for a walk. She noticed a light on in the front hall of the house next to theirs. She took a breath. That house. Still gave her chills after everything that happened and the fact that she still didn't have answers about who that little girl was. She hated that she still didn't know. She knew in her gut that, that little girl wasn't exactly who she had been told. But she also knew that, that house was being cleaned up. With the case wrapping up. She was glad that because Darren had decided to take a plea deal that she didn't need to go to court for this case and it was wrapped up without her needing to testify about anything. But that meant the house was going back on the market.
Sascha was happily on the walk till he noticed that Rosie's mood had changed. He gently headbutted her hand.
Rosie looked down and smiled. "Yes?"
He tilted his head almost as if he was asking if she was okay.
"I'm okay. Promise." She told him. They kept walking. It started to snow abit. She smiled. She loved the snow. Winter had quickly become her favorite time of the year. She was even starting to acclimate to the cold. Sure, she was still cold half the time, but it was manageable with the right clothes. They walked for a good hour before they landed back at home and went inside.
She hung up her coat by the door to dry off and kicked off her boots and put her hat and gloves in her coat. Sascha wiped his paws on the mat by the door before Rosie took off his leash. She went and found her dad in the kitchen.
Dave looked up. "Cold one out there huh?" He asked
"Well. It is winter." Rosie said
"Yes. And your face is red." He said
Rosie put her hands on her cheeks. "Well, its cold."
"Dinner will be ready shortly. Do you want some hot chocolate or tea?" He asked
"Nope. But need any help with dinner?" She asked
Dave gave her something she could help with, and they made dinner together. Once it was ready they sat and ate.
"The house next door. There was a cleaning van in the driveway and lights on." She said
"Yes. Well. It needs a good cleaning before it can go back on the market." Dave said
Rosie nodded.
"You okay?" He asked
Rosie smiled abit and nodded. "Yup."
"Come on. What's on your mind?" Dave said
"Is there any new information on that little girl?" Rosie asked
"No. I believe all leads have been followed. I'm sorry bambina." Dave said
Rosie sighed and nodded.
They finished eating and cleaned up the mess from dinner before Rosie went to take a bath and get ready to go back to school the next day.
