Chapter Eleven: Revival
Just like all the other residents of Magix' Enchanted Forest, Timmy, Elyssa and what remained of Digit had been transported back to Zenith. Suddenly, as they appeared, the attacks of sound, light, fire and water started up from before. Luckily, all of Zenith's citizens had been safely evacuated.
"I thought we were on good terms with the fairies now!" Elyssa shouted over the force of the sound waves, "Haven't they all been returned to their rightful homes?" She, Timmy and the citizens of Zenith watched helplessly as the attacks demolished their kingdom. Then, everyone stood silent once everything had ceased.
"These attacks aren't from the fairies you met in the Enchanted Forest," The long-bearded owl answered, "They were sent from the original people who were trapped there, so that your people knew they felt threatened." The Elder Counsel had kept their promise to take care of the people of Zenith until at least one of the sisters returned.
"But Tecna figured out why the rest of the realms felt that way," Elyssa informed the Elders, "Under her leadership, we have fostered new perspectives and the compassion that our grandfather lacked when he met up with the other representatives that day. Why are we being punished now?"
"That is something even we can't answer," the centaur responded. Then, Elyssa tuned to address the citizens.
"People of Zenith," She began, " with a heavy heart, I regret to inform you that Queen Tecna did not make it back with us. She risked her life to uncover the mistakes of our grandfather before us. In doing so, she was determined to set free the royal families and Guardian Fairies who have been trapped within the Enchanted Forest of Magix. Before she went on to seal the Omega Portal on Andros, her last declaration was that I, Princess Elyssa, take her place as Queen of Zenith. Through Tecna's discovery, I too have learned what is needed for us to flourish going forward. Tecna has encouraged us all to be open to different perspectives, different ways of life. She has also demonstrated through the mastery of her powers that emotions and logical decisions can co-exist in harmony, and even expand on one another. As queen, I intend to continue everything Tecna has taught us and celebrate our newfound unity with the other realms of the Magical Dimension."
The crowd of people began to kneel on one knee and bow their heads, one by one. It wasn't a formality and they did not wish to return to how things were before Tecna became queen. It was an act of respect for their fallen queen, respect for what she had taught them and respect for what she'd done for the entire Magical Dimension. Suddenly, the people turned to see a rainbow of light behind them. Princesses Bloom, Stella and Aisha as well as Musa had emerged from the light and looked around at he damage that was done.
"Your ancestors were threatened by the approach that our grandfather took to uniting our realms," Elyssa explained to them in front of her citizens, "They had to have saved this attack to further warn us."
"Since you and Tecna have shown us how far you are willing to go to make up for the mistakes of the past, I believe it's only right for us to do the same," Bloom said, "We are here to help you rebuild Zenith."
"Thank you very much," Elyssa breathed.
So, the fairies gathered all their magic in convergence and unleashed it upon the wreckage of the city. The buildings began to gleam once they regained their structure and signs on the stores lit up to welcome customers again. Homes were restored in every neighborhood and the fairies helped provide goods and services for the people who had lost everything. It took quite some time for Zenith to look even remotely like a city again. However, the sad reality of it was that it was no longer the most technologically advanced realm in the Magical Dimension. Sure, the rest of the fairies gave the citizens what they needed to restore their living conditions, but they couldn't provide it in the same way they always knew. However, the people were still gracious for the fairies' efforts. Once the city was thriving, they celebrated and educated themselves about the different cultures of each realm. That was truly what the purpose of the treaty from long ago was.
One day, all the people met on the outskirts of Zenith's major city that was located near the palace. The fairies helped Elyssa rule the realm with a kind and fair unity of the head and heart, as her sister had before her. They all stood in a crowd, looking over what they all had built and revived. Just then, numerous people turned to notice the clouds in the sky begin to part to unveil another pure white light. Everyone gasped in awe as they watched the light shone like a beam from above, bringing with it someone that nobody had ever thought they'd see again. There she was, Tecna, in her full fairy form. She slowly fluttered down within the light until her delicate bare feet reached the ground. Elyssa was left breathless as she began to step toward her older sister.
"I though you were-," she began before Tecna cut in. Tears of happiness sprung from Elyssa's eyes as she glanced up at Tecna in her new, ethereal form. She looked just like the other fairies, and Elyssa hoped that was truly her destiny. Although she wished she didn't have to almost lose Tecna for that to happen.
"It was your actions that brought me back," Tecna told her, "You continued to uphold the lesson I learned when I ventured into the vortex. I sent that signal to you because I knew you would do what was needed for our people. You showed them what we needed to do to maintain unity throughout all the realms. And so, you were rewarded with my revival."
"I wondered why you weren't spared if you were willing to unite the Magical Dimension," Elyssa admitted.
"I did not expect a reward," Tecna said, "The only thing I wanted was for the people of the realms to be returned to their homes, even if I didn't survive. You didn't expect me to return, and so you only joined together for the benefit of our people. The key is selflessness, to put others' needs before your own desires." Elyssa stared at her sister in awe. Ever since her coronation, she always looked up to Tecna. She was a wise ruler despite her upbringing, and she was always willing to learn more. Now, it definitely seemed that she had, and she was passing down that wisdom to her sister.
"Tecna, I know you probably don't want to return to the throne," Elyssa said, "I always knew you were meant for something much greater. Your magic was always limited by fear of harming anyone again."
"You're right Elyssa," Tecna confessed, "I did fear that I would let my people down one day. But I also knew that you would have the same wisdom I do. And now you've displayed how confident you are in my place."
"I had no choice," Elyssa answered her quietly, "I wanted to fulfill your dying wish." Tecna smiled softly, she knew Elyssa was no longer the rambunctious younger sister that she sometimes got annoyed with. Elyssa had grown, just as she had. Then, the two sisters gathered in a tight hug as the tears continued to stream from Elyssa's eyes. The citizens of Zenith began to roar in cheer to see their former queen alive and well. The sisters parted from their embrace as Tecna made an announcement.
"Citizens of Zenith," she began, "Elyssa will continue to be your queen, but it will be my sworn duty to become Zenith's Guardian Fairy. I will join the other Guardian Fairies of the realms to maintain the balance of forces in the Magic Dimension! But before I go, I want to grant you all something very special." Then, she flew up in the air and spread her hands above her. Her magic surrounded every corner of Zenith, restoring it as the realm of technological marvels it was known for.
"I'd like to thank all the fairies of the realms, my new friends, for helping my sister keep the kingdom thriving," Tecna continued. The crowd's cheers became louder and could be heard for miles. Tecna's smile brightened as she watched the rest of the fairies walk up and stand beside her.
"I am Princess Bloom of Domino," Bloom started, "Fairy of the Dragon's Flame!"
"I am Princess Stella of Solaria," Stella joined in, "Fairy of the Sun and Moon!"
"I am Princess Aisha of Andros," Aisha added, "Fairy of Waves!"
"I am Flora of Lynphea," Flora chimed in, "Fairy of Nature!"
"I am Musa of Melody," Musa said, "Fairy of Sound and Music!"
"And I am Tecna of Zenith," Tecna concluded, "Fairy of Technology!"
"And now we have a fairy from every one of the major realms," Bloom continued to address the crowd, "I now declare us the new Company of Light!" The applause and cheers only got louder, and Tecna was the first to send a flare of her magic into the sky in celebration.
Timmy had never been the same. He wanted to rule by Tecna's side, but now that she was gone, he felt empty. Flora and Helia visited him frequently, caring for him and support him in his time of need. Flora made her nutritious meals and they both listened to his stories of living with Tecna in the palace. Though there were some times that Timmy had yelled at Helia in a fit of rage since he was the one to tell Timmy he had to be as courageous as Tecna had been. It hurt!
During the restoration of the kingdom, Timmy had locked himself away despite Elyssa and others keeping an eye on him. As a project to keep his mind together, he tried desperately to fix Digit. Unfortunately it was not the same without Tecna's magic to grant sentience to the little robotic pixie. Timmy sat alone as he stared at Digit. He had managed to reassemble her, but she would be no more than a service bot with a knowledge database of the Magical Dimension. Timmy sighed and closed his eyes, the blurry shapes underneath his eyelids formed a vision of Tecna's face.
"I miss you Tec," he whispered as his eyes began to water. Then, he heard a sound, like something starting up again.
"Wh-what happened?" Digit's voice shot Timmy out of his thoughts, "We're back on Zenith. Is Tecna alive?"
"No, Digit. She…," Timmy began before he paused. Tecna's magic was the source of Digit's sentience. Digit stopped sensing Tecna's magic before she began to shut down. But now, Digit was fine. Timmy sat there staring at Digit for a moment before something in him felt… complete again. He could sense Tecna's magic. Suddenly, the silence in the room was disrupted by the roaring cheers of the people that could be heard from the edge of the city. Curiously, Timmy looked out the window to see what was happening. Then, he saw it. An explosion of bright green light, the magic that could only belong to one person. His beloved Tecna.
Without hesitation, he raced out of the palace and jumped on his hover-bike as Digit followed close behind. Once he got to the gathering of Zenith's people, he could see all six fairies standing front and center. And just as he'd hoped, one of those fairies was Tecna. He was left mesmerized by her new form. It was more revealing then anything he'd ever seen her in, and yet it looked so elegant and sophisticated. Her big, beautiful wings complemented her fragile figure gracefully, and simultaneously made her look even more powerful and stronger than ever before.
"Tecna," Timmy breathed, hoping desperately that this was not a grief stricken dream. Though, Tecna saw him in the front of the crowd and turned to face him. Despite reuniting with her sister and announcing her newly found status, something was still missing.
"Timmy!" she cried out gleefully as she ran towards him. He wrapped his arms around her and swept her off her feet as everybody watched. The tears in Timmy's eyes returned, this time they were tears of utter disbelief. There was the love of his life, in his arms again. He cupped her chin with his fingertips and their lips met in a passionate kiss. It was as though time itself had froze.
Then, when their lips parted, Timmy knew he had to do what he had been longing to for quite some time. So, he took a deep breath and said, "Tecna, I love you. I didn't know what I was going to do with myself the whole time I thought we'd lost you. I told you I didn't know how to live without you by my side. I felt a void, an emptiness all around me. And now that I have you back, I'm not going to let this moment pass me by." Then, he finally got down on one knee and brought out the ring he purchased before all of this happened.
"Tecna, love of my life, will you marry me?" He asked. Tecna's heart began to flutter as fast as her her wings. Without saying a word, she flung her arms around his neck and kissed him again. Timmy smiled at her response, taking it as a resounding yes.
"There's just one thing," Tecna said in a pause, "I'm leaving to join the new Company of Light in Magix."
"That doesn't matter, Tec," Timmy assured her, "I would've liked to rule Zenith by your side, but if that's not what's best for you, I will be there for what is. No matter what you decide, I want to support you."
"Well, there's no reason why you can't come with me to Magix," Tecna suggested in a giggle, and Timmy sighed blissfully to hear it.
So, that's what they decided. Tecna and Timmy joined the other fairies in Magix to defend the Magical Dimension, and Elyssa resumed her role as the new Queen of Zenith. Of course, Tecna and Timmy returned to Zenith any time Elyssa needed them and to celebrate holidays with them. But ultimately, everyone found where they belonged, happy and free.
The fact that Zenith was destroyed was a last minute thing. I wanted the lesson of making up for mistakes of the past to go both ways. The King of Zenith was very closed minded and looked untrusting, bringing his army with him. Although, the others were quick to judge too and acted irrationally. The lesson here is open-mindedness to learn others' perspectives, as Tecna said.
I also love that I incorporated elements of the Winx Club series into this AU. The different fairies and their realms as well as becoming the new Company of Light. As per usual I sprinkle in elements of Timmy's confession, "a void, an emptiness all around me" which I will always find so romantic!
But that's it for Electrified! I might take a small break. If I haven't been writing fanfiction, I have been working my tail off with fan art. Unless that Valentines' Day post blows up, I don't think it'll be too long (that post triggers my anxiety so bad).
Anyway, plugging in my social media, Facebook and Instagram tecnofan34 to keep in touch. Later. :)
