"I enlisted for the Marines and was shipped out for the Philippines after Boot Camp, when Pearl Harbor was bombed, the Philippines was attacked and what followed in its aftermath went from bad to fucking worse.

Hell, my Dad was a Marine in the 2nd Battalion, 5th Marines, he had seen shit get bad, but long after his war, there was another war in the making and we all feared the worse when Hitler, Hirohito and that fat fuck Mussolini drag the world into the cesspool of shit.

British slugging it out in Europe and down here in the Pacific on all fronts. Every day in the Philippines we kept on the move in the jungles, me and my brother Tommy fighting off Malaria, keeping our brothers alive.

We made it out of there alive, back to Australia, only got a week of R&R before we were back out in the frontlines.

I made it back Stateside and I joined up with the Raiders, 2nd Marine Battalion under a man named Carlson.

We're at Makin Atoll, it's a little island with sand, trees and a Japanese military base.

My name is Sergeant Joseph Capelli."

Chapter 3:

August 17th 1942

Off the Shores of Makin Island

"Makin Atoll, sand, trees and a Jap military base. Reconnaissance team landed there almost 3 days ago, since then we heard nothing.

Against orders and out of concern for the boys that were on the island themselves, I lead a squad to go after them, after all it was something, I learned back in the Philippines, we never leave our own behind. Sadly though, I left my brothers-in-arms to their deaths.

I'm not leaving men behind again; I did that once and it was not something I took directly. Time to hit back."

Night time over the islands of Makin, the sea was calm and peaceful. 3 Small boats made their way to the beach of Makin Atoll.

Joe Capelli carried his Thompson SMG, it was slung across his back, he wore a Marine combat uniform, a cap on his head compared to a helmet that would have given away his position.

Ahead of his position he could see silhouettes, they were Japanese soldiers, they were torturing the recon team.

Feeling his anger deepen at the torture of the Marines in front of him, he then looked to his team who saw the anger in his blue eyes as he said, "No noise, knife only."

The men nodded with fear in their eyes as Joe got out of the boat, silently equipping his Ka-Bar knife, he snuck past the guards and went for the commander of the interrogation team, Joe kicked him in the back of his legs and slit the leader's throat, he turned to the right-hand man whose eye's widened as he was soon beaten to death by Joe who continued punching in the Japanese soldier's face in as he said, "Motherfucker!"

He saw the slit throats of the Marines as he snarled openly before returning to the squad as he said, "Signal the strike squad!"

He looked to the wounded Marines as the evacuation team said, "We'll get 'em outta here!"

Joe nodded, "Go get 'em outta here!"

Grabbing his Thompson, he joined his team as the fireworks show started. Several huts were destroyed as Joe said to the team, "Hit those bastards!"

Joe directed the squad as he fired on the awakened Japanese soldiers. Joe naturally led from the front of the attack, he rapidly fired on the Japanese soldiers, letting his anger at the enemy cloud his judgement.

The fire in his blue eyes refused to die as he killed the Japanese soldiers with such brutality and without mercy that reminded him so much of being at Bataan, the anger he had felt in every defeat that the boys in the Philippines had suffered. He was reminded of how he and Henry O'Malley would brutally slaughter the Japanese soldiers in open fighting.

Joe had seen how Henry's violent temper had driven him to a point where he was focused in defeating the enemy. But one thing that had disturbed him was Henry's eyes, they were red and amber, they weren't the shining blue that always lit up around a joke, even Tommaso was in shock of seeing Henry's eyes look like that and it rose eyebrows between the brothers as to what the hell was with the O'Malley family.

Proceeding through the structures, Joe and his team killed any and all Japanese stragglers that were surprised by the Raider's attack.

They moved through the hut area as they saw a machine gun nest pinning down the rest of their team.

Joe looked to the men and said, "Give me covering fire, I'll take care of the MG nest."

The Marine raiders give Joe covering as he flanks the MG nest, he then pulls two grenades out and he pulls the pins on them, he tosses them into window, they explode obliterating the hut leading to Joe spraying the hut.

Signalling to the rest of the squad, he leads them through the jungle as he said, "Eyes open and ears up, Japs are home in this shit!"

Coming up to a small temple, one of the Marines steps forward as Joe pushes him back and sets it off with a rock, he snarls at the soldier saying, "Dipshit, Jap fuckers booby-trap anything vital, stay on my ass, you'll survive that way!"

Continuing onwards, Joe led the squad to a mountainside as he saw a support squad making their way to the beach.

He signalled for the squad to hold position as he proceeded alone, everyone looked at Joe and wondered if he was insane, but what followed was something remarkable, heading towards the pillboxes, Joe took out the machine gunners, he headed to a guard tower and slit the throat of the guard quietly.

Proceeding back down, Joe then used the foliage as cover to mask his approach and soon enough, every Japanese soldier was introduced to his wrath. No one even knew what had hit them but the scene was gory and he mutilated the patrolling soldiers with such precision that some of the Marines proceeding down felt sick to their stomachs at the scenes.

The support squad had then joined up with Joe's squad and he had then said, "Alright boys, I wanna get through this quick and clean."

"You hear me?" Joe turned to the squad as he continued, "Quick and clean."

Keeping their eyes open, Joe lead the squad to a small waterfall as he saw what looked like Jap soldiers lying dead around them.

He turned to the squads and signalled to them to stay sharp and keep their fingers on the triggers.

Withdrawing his knife from his sheath, he noticed a 'supposedly' dead Japanese soldier inch closer to his gun, taking the opportunity, he then thrusted the knife deeply into the man's brain killing him silently.

He turned to the squad and handed signalled to them to kill the Japanese soldiers playing dead.

Every Marine saw Joe's murderous expression and replicated killing the Japanese the same way Joe had done.

When they were sure the Japanese soldiers were dead for real.

The team moved onwards heading up the road. Searchlights flooded a small base filled with munitions and gasoline as Joe said, "Everybody get ready, lock and load!"

Everyone reloaded their weapons or checked them as Joe said, "GO LOUD, TAKE 'EM OUT!"

Pushing forward, Joe made it to a nearby truck and hotwired it, as he pushed the handbrake down.

Seeing the gasoline pour from the gas drum, Joe lit it up with a lighter that had been gifted to him by Donnie Lynn.

A trail of fire blazed straight into the heart of the military base obliterating anything in its path.

Rallying the Marines, Joe led the attack on the base as he said, "1st Squad lay down suppressing fire on the fuckin' machine guns. 2nd squad, on me, positions at the Extraction point. Rally there!"

"AYE SERGEANT!" The Marines shouted out.

Patting two Marines on their shoulders, "Get in that bunker and set the charges, I'll lay down cover fire!"

Running to a nearby truck, Joe fired with his Thompson directly into the path of the Japanese soldiers, trying to collapse their covers and force them into the path of the firepower coming from the Marines.

Joe's ferocity towards the Japanese soldiers was well noted during the Philippines, the fear, anger and the hatred he carried for every soldier American or Filipino killed was like an attack on his own family.

He was a born killer, he hated losing, now he was fighting to win a war. fighting for his family, fighting for his family, his loved ones and fighting for the honor of the US Marine Corps.

Hearing a Marine shout out to him, the Marine had said, "Sergeant Capelli, timer's fried on the TNT, we've probably got minutes before they explode!"

"Alright, let's pull out! I'll cover you, get to the boat!" Joe nodded and shouted to the others, "Everyone, pull out, get back to the boat!"

One by one, the Marines pulled back, Joe had provided covering fire ensuring the very safety of the Marines under his command.

Seeing the Marines fall back to the boats, he then signalled to the others that were laying down cover fire as he said, "Get to the boats, I'll cover you!"

Continuing to fire on the Japanese soldiers until he had been assured the squads of Marines were safely onto their boats as he continued to fire short bursts at the Japanese soldiers as he pushed the boat out to the sea and climbed in.

Just as they got away, the explosions had gone off and engulfed the Japanese base in flames.

Whilst the other Marines cheered in celebration, only Joe stayed quiet, he didn't feel like celebrating, there was still a war to fight, celebrations would have to wait, the celebrations would only begin after the Japanese Empire crumbled to its knees. Joe Capelli wanted to be front and center for when such an event happened.
