Disclaimer: I don't own Bleach. Period.
Karasu: I wrote this in like...ten minutes, so forgive me if it's slightly crappy. I meant to get a point across in the shortest amount of paragraphs possible though, and I believe I might have succeeded.

At a young age, a child's mind is feeble and impressionable; so much so that their very language is built off of what they hear. Parents are always the ones held responsible to mold their children's outlook on the world. Often, the things parents tell their children are lies to protect them from the real world...to protect their innocence.
Young children are commonly afraid of the dark, since they are so used to the light at a young age. Their minds form the possiblility that monsters or other creatures could be lurking in the dark, waiting to snatch them up and pull them into their world. Naiive children think that simply by turning on the light, it keeps the monsters away. They fail to realize that it merely keeps them at bay for so long. When the lights die down, those monsters come back out, and they find themselves groping in the darkness for another guiding light.
In many ways, Kuchiki Rukia was exactly like these children. She had her guiding light, and felt as if he'd always be there and never die down. Like a naiive child, Rukia failed to realize that all light dies down eventually; some faster than others.
Ichigo never let on that the darkness was taking him over for the mere fact that he didn't want Rukia's worry on his shoulders. Every time he got into a desperate situation and used his dark side, a bit more leaked into his spirit, and began to grab a hold of him.
He'd attained this power for her sake, and he used it for her sake.
Sooner or later, we are faced with the facts we'd rather not let ourselves hear. Like Rukia, we would most likely try to force them out and convince ourselves of a different truth to keep the darkness at bay, if only for a little bit longer.
Light is limited in this world; and if sooner or later, we'll all have to come to terms with darkness and face the truth of the matter.
Nothing is as it appears to be.

Karasu: Hate it? Love it? I wanna know! I might consider writing something else like this. :)
