Rosie was in the newspaper classroom at school. She was waiting for one of the seniors from the football team. She had done all the interviews she needed to except this one. The football game was the next day and she needed to get this interview done before than. She also would have to interview a few people after the game was done but who she would be interviewing would depend on who played well so she didn't know who that would be.
The guy came in and sat down. "Hey. Rosie right?"
"Yup. Hey Simon." Rosie said, "So lets get this started." She pressed start on an audio recorder. "You okay if I record this?"
"Yes." He said
Rosie started to ask him her questions and it was going well. At one point she noticed him getting distracted.
She stopped the recording "You okay?" she asked
"We are being watched. And possibly pictures taken." He said
Rosie looked back and sighed.
"That Matt." Simon said
"Yup. He is going to send picture to Noel. He has been trying to cause Noel and I issues for awhile." Rosie said, "Noel knows where I am I'm not worried."
Simon got up and went out the classroom and grabbed Matt's phone and went through and deleted all the photos he had just taken.
"What the fuck?" Matt asked
"Yeah. What the fuck Matt? We all know you have had a huge crush on Rosie since first year, but she picked Nolan. Get over it." Simon said
Rosie's jaw dropped and she got up. "Wait What?!"
"Yeah. He has liked you since first year." Simon said
"Who knew this?" Rosie asked
"Not many people. He told me when he was piss ass drunk." Simon said
"Did Nolan?" Rosie asked Matt
"Pft. No. Because its not true." Matt said
Rosie rolled her eyes. "I seriously hope not because the nasty things you have said to me and you making out with my little sister not conducive to a friendship let alone anything more, so I hope that anyone you like in the future you don't pull shit like that"
"I don't like you. Never have." Matt said
"Fine. But get the fuck out of here. And you can tell Noel anything you want. He knows where I am." Rosie said
Matt walked away.
Rosie went and sat back down.
Simon sat down across from her.
Rosie pressed play on the recorder and continued the interview. When she was done she ended the recording and looked at Simon.
"Thanks you can get back to lunch." Rosie said
"Wow. I thought guys were the ones who could compartmentalize things not woman." Simon said
Rosie sighed. "Not something that I'm going to talk to you about. But I do appreciate you standing up for me."
Simon nodded. "Okay. And no problem. Nolan is my friend too and if he gets hurt before the game than we all get effected."
"So you don't think I should tell him what happened till after the game?" Rosie asked
"I don't know him as well as you do but I do know that this is my last football game. There are scouts there and I need to impress them. And Matt is on the team too. if the captain's head isn't in the game…" Simon said
"It wont look good for any of you." Rosie said nodding.
"I don't think Matt would have the balls to tell Noel anything. And I'm not saying to not tell him. But if it can wait." Simon said
Rosie nodded. "And I know while he does have another year scouts will notice if he isn't playing well too and has goals for his future too."
Simon nodded.
"Okay. Thanks again for the interview and the help with Matt." Rosie said
Simon nodded and went.
Rosie left the newspaper room and went to the lunch hall and sat with her friends.
"Hey. How did the last interview go?" Nolan asked
"It was good." Rosie said
Nolan smiled "Good."
"Who was it with?" Cass asked
"Simon." Rosie said
"He is fucking hot." Abby said
Rosie shrugged. "Yeah I guess."
Nolan raised an eyebrow
"Not as sexy as you." Rosie said with a smile kissing him
Nolan chuckled and kissed her back. "I'd be an ass if I expected you didn't notice if other people are attractive."
Rosie nodded abit "Ditto."
They finished eating. "I might have to interview him after the game. If you want I can put in a good note for you." Rosie said with Abby
"Would you really?" Abby asked
"Yeah. I don't think he has a girlfriend? Right?" Rosie asked Nolan
"No. He doesn't." Nolan said
"So I can tell him about an awesome girl who he could ask on a date" Rosie said "You are interested right?"
"I am." Abby said
Rosie smiled. "So I'll tell him about you. Vailed. So he can figure it out himself."
Abby chuckled. "Okay. Thanks."
The warning bell rang, and everyone got up and headed to class.
At the end of the day. Rosie pulled Nathan aside. "I have a hypothetical questions. I need to stay between us."
Nathan nodded. "Okay. Shoot."
"Hypothetically. If someone from the football team was causing issues for your girlfriend. And she was debating when to tell you. How pissed would you be if she waited till after the game to tell you because she didn't want you to freak out and make you not able to focus on the game." Rosie said
"Okay. Wondering if this is -your hypothetical question or if its Taylor's but. Um. What kind of trouble is he causing?" Nathan asked
Rosie chuckled. "It's a hypothetical question. Doesn't belong to anyone. Um. Trying to cause a rift between the hypothetical couple."
Nathan took a breath. "Well. Hypothetically. If the couple is solid. And there is nothing that this girlfriend did that was wrong. Than I think I'd want to know. Right away. But I need more information to know for sure. Rosie. If it about you and Noel. I can keep it to myself. Its between you two. And you're both my friends."
Rosie sighed. "When I was interviewing Simon. Matt was outside the door taking pictures of the two of us. I know because he wanted to show Nolan. Maybe to post around the school. Whatever. Simon noticed and when I told him what was going on he went and took Matt's phone and deleted all the pictures and told him off. But I guess at some point Matt had told Simon in some drunken stupor that he has liked me since ninth grade. Simon thinks that it will call a fight between Matt and Nolan if I tell him. And in the end cause issues with the game and there will be scouts. For you as well as other seniors and Nolan is captain and has future goals so while he has next year to impress them if he doesn't handle the information well it could make him look bad too…"
"Fuck. Matt. I'm going to kill him." Nathan said
"Nate. Don't." Rosie said
"I wasn't serious. But I'm so tired of him hurting my friend." Nathan said
"I appreciate that." Rosie said
"Yes. We have goals. But Rose. If this was Taylor. I'd hope she could trust I could handle it and keep my feeling aside for the sake of the game. And Nolan trusts you. He knows you wouldn't do anything to hurt him. And he has been keeping his feelings aside for the sake of the team since everything happened in the first place." Nathan said
Rosie nodded "But if things keep coming. Something will make him crack…"
"Tell you what. You tell him. And if I have to I will keep him from losing it I will." Nathan said
Rosie nodded. "Okay. Thanks."
"No problem." Nathan said
Rosie went and found Nolan waiting at her car. "Hey." She said
"Hey." Nolan said
"Can we talk?" Rosie asked
"Of course." Nolan said.
Rosie leaned against the back of her car. "I want to tell you this. I need to tell you this. But I need you to remember that you have to keep calm. That freaking out and going and punching someone or letting this affect your game tomorrow. Is not okay."
Nolan tilted his head. "What's going on?"
Rosie looked away and took a breath before looking back at him. "When I was interviewing Simon today. He noticed someone taking photos of us outside the classroom. It was Matt. Um. It doesn't take a genius to figure out he was trying his next tactic to cause a rift between us." Rosie said
Nolan nodded. "I fucking hate that ass hole. But I have been keeping myself in check with him being on the team. I can still do that."
"There's more." Rosie said
"Okay." Nolan said
"I told Simon what was going on and he went and took Matt's phone and deleted all the pictures and told him off. And he said something I didn't realize. Um. I guess Matt told Simon when he was drunk that he has had a crush on me since grade nine…" Rosie said, "Matt denied it and I cant figure out how if that's the truth he would have made those comments to me or asked my sister out and made out with her, but I figured I should be honest with you about all of it." Rosie said
Nolan ran a hand across his chin. Rosie had noticed he did that when he needed to calm down. She waited till he said something.
"I don't know if that's true. Maybe it is." Nolan said
"But you know that even if he hadn't done the thing he did. I have never had feeling for him right?" Rosie asked
"Yes I know." Nolan said. "I'm not upset with you."
"Was I right to tell you right away or should I have waited till after the game?" Rosie asked
"Someone tell you to wait?" Nolan asked
"Someone suggested that it might affect how well you play or playing with Matt. Someone who doesn't know me or our relationship. So I got advice from someone who does." Rosie said
"Simon ask you to wait?" Nolan asked
"Yeah." Rosie said
Nolan nodded. "Okay. I get his point of view. He needs a scholarship to get into school. And if I acted like a child and handled the news badly it could affect the whole team. But thank you for listening to which ever one of out friends told you that you should tell me."
Rosie let out a breath and nodded. "I know you and Simon are pretty good friends too. I hope this doesn't affect that."
Nolan shook his head "He protected your reputation when I wasn't there to do it. I appreciate it. And like I said I get his point of view. As for Matt. Well. I can wait a few days to kill him."
"Noel. How about we just say that Matt is an ass and not give him the satisfaction of getting under our skin?" Rosie asked
Nolan smiled. "Okay. But I'm going to make sure he knows I know and that he doesn't win. After the game."
Rosie nodded. "Okay."
Nolan kissed her.
Rosie kissed him
"Which of our friends did you go to for advice?" Nolan asked
"Does it matter?" Rosie asked
"No. Just curious." Nolan said
She kissed him and smiled.
"You're not going to tell me." Nolan said as he kissed her
"Nope." Rosie said chuckling
"Could you two be any cuter? Its almost gag worthy." Whitney said
Nolan looked up. "What are you even doing here."
"Nolan. No. Its okay. She and I ran into each other. We talked. I don't think she meant that insultingly." Rosie said
"I didn't." Whitney said. "I think you two are one of the best couples I saw at this school when I went here."
Nolan let out a breath and nodded. "Thanks."
"But I'm curious. What are you doing here?" Rosie asked
"Picking up the two of my brothers that go here." Whitney said
"Ooh. I didn't realize I though your brothers were all younger." Rosie said
"Ninth grade both of them." Whitney said
"Oh. Cool." Rosie said
Whitney nodded. "One of them is on the football team."
"Oh. I didn't make the connection. Marcus?" Nolan asked
Whitney nodded
"Cool. He seems like a good player. Don't know him well. He seems a little quiet" Nolan said
Whitney smiled and nodded. "Um. Yeah. He loves football but he is painfully shy sometimes."
"I'll see if I can help him get closer to the other guys." Nolan said
"I appreciate that." Whitney said "And I think I owe you an apology too. I'm sure I did something that I shouldn't have to you too."
Nolan nodded. "I don't know if you did anything directly to me so if Rosie can forgive you I can too." He said, "Although I knew nothing about the two of you talking."
"Yeah. I guess I didn't tell you." Rosie said
Whitney smiled. "Was it so you didn't have to share details of what we talked about?"
"Part of it. The rest has nothing to do with you more to do with me and things that I wont get into." Rosie said
Whitney nodded. "Okay. Well you can tell him. I figured you would."
A couple ninth graders who you could tell were brothers came over.
"Hey Whit." Marcus said
"Hey. You know Nolan?" Whitney asked
"Um. Yeah. Football Captain." Marcus said
"Wait. Aren't you in eleventh grade?" Whitney asked Nolan
"I am." Nolan said
"He got picked to be Captain. First Jr to be Captain in like 100 years." Rosie said
"Damn. Congrats." Whitney said
"Were you friend with him in highschool?" The other brother asked
"Um. Not really." Whitney said
"We hung out in different groups." Rosie said figuring Whitney didn't need them to know she used to a jerk.
They nodded
"This is Rosie." Whitney said.
Everyone said hello.
"There is a party tonight for the football team. You're going to be there right?" Nolan said with Marcus.
"I don't know…" Marcus said
"You should come. It's always a lot of fun. Brings the team closer together before the final game." Nolan said "Its at my place." He gave him the address
"Maybe." Marcus said
"What about you in any sport or anything?" Rosie asked the other brother Mason.
"Boxing." He said
"Oh cool. My sister is on the team. Hayley." Rosie said
Mason made a face.
Rosie chuckled. "Trying how to figure out how we are sisters?"
"No." Mason said quickly
Rosie smirked and nodded. "Okay."
Whitney shook her head and smiled.
"Come on we need to get the others from the elementry school." She said.
Everyone said bye.
Rosie took a breath when the others were gone.
"You didn't tell me because I would question why you still haven't gone and talked to Sierra if you were will to forgive Whitney right?" Nolan asked
Rosie looked down. "How do you know me so well?"
"Rosie. I'm leaving it up to you if you want to and when. Whitney was a bully, but she had never been your friend. Sierra was your friend. Its different. I know that." Nolan said
Rosie nodded abit looking up at him.
"So where did you run into her?" Nolan asked
"The park. The week I was at my uncle's I was at the park with Jack. She was there with her youngest brother. I guess Jack and him are friends." Rosie said
"Small world." Nolan said
Rosie nodded. "It is."
"Was that the day that Jack was climbing on the monkey bars?" Nolan asked
"Yup. Her brother was one of the ones who was egging him on. She was the one who sent me the names of all the other boys.." Rosie said
"Oh. So you really left out some information." Nolan said
Rosie looked down.
Nolan took a breath. "I'm not upset. Just surprised."
Rosie nodded abit. "Sorry."
Nolan wrapped her in a hug. Rosie snuggled into the hug.
Nolan smiled. "Do you think I'd want to know whatever it is she told you that was part of the reason you didn't tell me?"
"You wouldn't expect me to tell you no. Its about her personal life. Um. The only thing I think would be important for you to know is she has full custody of her four brothers." Rosie said
Nolan nodded. "Oh. Okay. For her to get that at eighteen…"
"Yeah. Um. Also guess you should know that her father is a pedophile. He was part of the ring that was taken down involving my case…" Rosie said
Nolan nodded. "Didn't they all have child porn on their computers?"
"Yup. I guess Whitney found the pictures and called the police." Rosie said
Nolan nodded. "So she did the right thing."
"She did. Um. I don't know if you want to know or if you figured it out. My pictures. Were part of his collection." Rosie said
Nolan hugged her tighter. "Did Whitney see them?"
"She recognized me in some. I don't know how many or how much. I didn't ask. I don't want to know." Rosie said
Nolan held her. "I'm so sorry you are dealing with this still."
"Thanks." Rosie said
By this time most of the student parking lot was empty. There were only a few cars left.
"Ready to go?" Nolan asked
Rosie shook her head and stayed in his arms.
They heard the door to the building open and they looked up. It was Matt
Rosie could feel Nolan tense up and she grabbed his shirt.
"You said you would wait till after the game. Please stay with me." Rosie said
Nolan took a breath and relaxed.
"Promise me you will leave it alone till at least after the game." Rosie said
"Promise." Nolan said
"Thank you." Rosie said
Matt's car was parked just two spots away from hers.
"She tell you that she was making out with Simon?" Matt said with a smirk
Nolan tensed up again.
Rosie took a breath and held Nolan's hand tight and looked over at Matt. "He will not believe a word that comes out of your mouth. He knows what happened. And unless you want to fuck up your guys chance of winning the game tomorrow. And ruin any chance of you getting a scholarship which I know you want. Than I suggest you shut up with the bullshit, get in your car and drive away. And not let my name come out your mouth again."
"I have proof." Matt said with a smirk.
"Hard to have proof of something that didn't happen." Nolan said
"You really believe that she would never cheat on you?" Matt said "Okay. You're the one who will deal with the fallout when you find out the truth."
"The truth is. Even if you were the last person on this planet I wouldn't touch you with a ten-foot poll. I have never liked you and never will. So you pulling the whole 'don't tell your sister cause she will be jealous' bullshit on Hayley is more like. 'I hope you tell your sister, so she is jealous.' Sad for you. Because I felt awful for her sucking face with you. She told me you sucked at it too." Rosie said
That clearly hit a sore spot for Matt. He shut up and got in his car and drove off.
Nolan looked down at Rosie raised eyebrow. "I'm the one who needed to keep calm?"
"I just told the truth." Rosie said
Nolan shook his head a small smile on his face. "You sure do have a way with words."
Rosie chuckled.
Nolan opened her door for her.
Rosie kissed him and got him. "Remember your promise."
"I will leave Matt alone. Till after the game. And when we are off school property." Nolan said
"Noel…" Rosie said
"I'm not letting him get away with what he is saying." Nolan said
"If you actually fight him all you are doing is telling him you believe what he is saying…" Rosie sad
"Rose. No. Not a fiber of my being believes what he says. But that doesn't mean he wont go to the rest of the school and spread these rumors." Nolan said
"Well. If he does that we can deal with it than." Rosie said. "If you want to have words with him that's fine. After the game. But please don't get violence involved."
Nolan let out a breath.
"Please." Rosie said
"Okay. Because I love you." Nolan said
"And because violence is never the answer." Rosie said
Nolan nodded. "I just feel like I need to defend you…"
"Please. You think I cant punch Matt? Trust me I have wanted to on more than one occasion. Like when he took my sister out. But that's not the right answer." Rosie said
Nolan nodded. "You're right." He leaned down and kissed her. "I love you."
She kissed him. "Love you too."
Nolan closed her car door and Rosie watched him get into his car and they both drove out and went home.
