Demon Blade
Chapter 2: Classes Begin
Disclaimer: I do not own Blue Exorcist or any of the characters involved except Melody
A few months had passed since Melody enrolled in True Cross Academy. During that time the excitement of her initial appearance had disappeared and she was accepted as a student in Yukio Okumura's homeroom class. During the class's application to become Exwires Melody expressed a hybrid classification of Dragoon and Knight.
"So, to review, a demon's temptaint is a mark, or wound, inflicted by a demon. This mark enables a human to be able to perceive demons as they would everyday objects. Since all of you have experienced demon phenomena at some point during your lifetime you already have a temptaint and thus can perceive demons," Yukio explained as he finished drawing on his chalkboard.
He turned to the class after setting down his chalk, "That's all for today's review, we'll resume studying for your exam tomorrow, but I suggest you get some personal study time in," The bell rang as he finished and the class began to pack up their belongings.
Melody was the first out the door. Since her time at True Cross she had become more adept at her studies, both in the classroom and with her 'uncle' Amaimon. She reached to her belt and pulled a key off a small string sewn into her belt. Using it on the nearest door she opened it revealing Mephisto's office.
"Hello darling," Mephisto said, materializing in front of his desk.
"Can it dad, I'm just here to blow of some steam, where's uncle Amaimon?"
"Right here," Amaimon said as he turned in Mephisto's chair.
"You know, we really should spend some more father-daughter bonding time than me watching you spar with your uncle," Mephisto said as Melody walked over to a side table and grabbed her belt with her blade and pistol.
She unsheathed the blade and gave it a thorough inspection, then unloaded the clip of her gun and checked it as well. Once the weapons were confirmed to be in working order she strapped them to the belt again and walked into the side room she'd first found them in. A moment later she came out, having changed out of her True Cross uniform for a pair of simple blue pants and a white tank-top. Her brown loafers were now a pair of black combat boots with white soles. She buckled her belt over the pants and drew the blade, aiming it at Amaimon in his chair.
"I'm ready," She said.
"This will be fun," Amiamon said as he leapt from the chair and over Mephisto's desk. Landing in a crouch in front of the purple-haired headmaster.
Meldoy grabbed the blade with both hands and got into a slight crouch. She held the blade in front of her with a firm, yet not too tight, grip. Amaimon suddenly rushed at her, bringing his arm around for a swiping attack, Melody was ready as she lifted the blade and caught his hand by his talon-like nails.
"Not a one-hit-wonder, you must really be stressed out," Amaimon said as he leapt back.
"Class was just review," Melody explained as she pulled out her pistol, it was almost instantaneous. She fired a few rounds at Amaimon who ducked and dodged, going into a roll toward Melody, as he came to her feet he sprung up attempting to claw at her, but she blocked with her sword again.
"Review is important, what did you review today?" He asked as Melody put the gun in his face.
"Demon Temptaint, something I don't understand completely," She said as she attempted to fire a few shots at him.
His visage blurred before disappearing, he was suddenly standing on Mephisto's desk with his hands on his hips. "It's simple, if I were to scratch you, you'd be able to see demons," He explained.
"I get that," Melody dropped the empty clip out of her pistol before reloading, putting it away and charging at Amaimon with both hands on her sword, "What I don't get is why I was able to see you and dad when I first arrived at True Cross. I'd never encountered a demon before then,"
"That's simple," Mephisto chimed in. He was sitting in a floating chair on the far side of the room sipping a cup of tea. "Being half demon you were born with the ability to see other Demons,"
"And I must say you're also quite a quick study," Amaimon said as he caught Melody's blade between his hands.
"That's her mother's half," Mephisto replied as Melody went into a backflip to try and uppercut Amaimon with her foot.
Amaimon let go of the sword and leaned back, narrowly avoiding the kick. Mephisto stood up and clapped his hands twice.
"I think that's enough for today,"
"I've barely gotten started," Melody told him as she came out of her flip.
"Yes brother, this was just getting interesting," Amaimon said as he stood up.
"While I don't doubt the two of you could go for the rest of the day, Melody has some other studying to do, and I have a special assignment for her," He explained.
"Oh really?" Amaimon asked curiously.
Melody shouldered her sword and glanced at her father suspiciously.
"Don't worry, it's nothing too dangerous, something an Exwire could easily handle," he explained.
She gave him a look as she lowered her head.
Mephisto held his arms up innocently, "I promise. Anyway, the mission is simple enough: There's a cait sith at the South Gate to True Cross Academy. His name is Kuro and he belong to the late father of Rin and Yukio Okumura. There's been some concern with Kuro's attitude lately, especially with Shiro's death."
"So you want me to kill a cat?" She asked, a little concerned.
"No my dear, I couldn't ask you to kill Kuro even if I wanted to, he's far out of your level. Despite your advancements against Amaimon other demons fight differently and Kuro is very strong in his own way. No, what I want you to do is keep an eye on the Okumura brothers. Rin doesn't know about Kuro yet, but Yukio does, and I'm sure he's aware of the situation,"
"So you want me to stalk my teacher and his brother?" Melody sheathed her sword at this point and put her hands on her hips.
"Yes, in a sense. There's some more training I want you to do before you're ready to move to the next phase of my plan, so for now I need to be updated on the Okumura's status, and there's not better way than my daughter who's in class with both of them,"
Melody considered the idea for a moment before sighing. "Fine, I'll do it,"
"Thanks darling,"
"Quit calling me that!"
Mephisto grinned as Melody got a little red. "I'm done for today anyway!" She shouted before stomping out of the room and slamming the door.
"You really shouldn't provoke her like that brother," Amaimon said as he looked over.
"It's fine, she's almost ready to participate in the plan," Mephisto turned to Amaimon as he said this. "With you and Melody working together we'll draw out Rin's powers soon enough,"
