"Uh what?" Tucker asks.
"Nyu?" Kaede repeats again.
"Whats she saying?" Tucker asks.
"The fuck should I know?" Church responds. Kaede stands upright, shooting out of Tuckers grip. She then looks around, seemingly to take in her surroundings. She then tries to run from Tucker but seems to trip on herself and land smack on her face.
"Nyu?" She says again while sitting up. She then starts balling her eyes out. "Nyuuuuuuu!" She cries, almost like a baby.
"What the fuck is going on?!" Church exclaims.
"I dunno! She's never done this before!" Tucker exclaims. They watch Kaede cry on the ground while they try to formulate why shes acting like this. "Maybe that shot erased her memory?" Tucker suggests.
"That would make sense." Church agrees. The two watch her continue to cry until she eventually calms down.
"So... what now?" Tucker asks.
"I don't fucking know. Lets just taker her back inside and figure something out there." Church replies. They taker her back inside blue base and set her down in the common area where they keep the flag. They also bandage her head.
"Nyu! Nyu!" She kept saying.
"What now?" Church asks.
"Uh..." Tucker starts. "She might have just forgotten how to speak and she does remember everything else."
"That seems unlikely." Church says.
"Well, in movies when a person has amnesia, they forget everything except how to speak english. Maybe this is just the inverted version of that." Tucker suggests.
"That sounds dumb as hell." Church says. "In movies they also hit the person really hard on the head to fix the problem, but that doesn't happen in real life."
"Nyu! Nyu!" Kaede exclaims like she's trying to tell them something.
"See, Kaede agrees. We just need to get her something to write with. That way, she can talk to us." Tucker says before rushing into the storage room and coming back out with a paper and pen. She takes the paper and pen as Tucker turns back to Church. "See. I told you it was inverted amnesia."
"Yeah. Way to tell me off before she finishes writing." Church complains.
"Scared to admit I'm right?" Tucker boasts.
"Terrified. Speaking of which, Kaede wet your paper." Church points out.
"See! She- What!" Tucker exclaims looking back to Kaede who is now sitting on the paper Tucker gave her.
"Nyuuuuuu." She says pleasurably as she pees on Tucker paper.
"Yeah, she's completely forgotten everything." Church deadpans.
"Does that mean we have potty train a 13 year old?" Tucker questions.
"Among other things, yes." Church says.
"Nyu." Kaede replies.
"Aw man! This is gonna suck!" Tucker exclaims.
"That, we can agree on." Church adds. "Help her into some new pants."
"Me? How come I have to do it?" Tucker complains.
"Diaper changing is not in my job description." Church simply replies before slowly walking away.
"AW, fucking cop-out!" Tucker complains. He then takes Kaede into the barracks and lays her down on his bed. "When I thought of stripping a women in my bed, this isn't at all what I had in mind." Tucker complains as he switches Kaede'a urine covered clothes for fresh ones. Once he is done, he brings her back into the common area.
"Okay Kaede, you have to remember something. What looks familiar?" Tucker asks.
"Nyu?" Kaede says, while looking on in thought. At least she still understood him. "Nyu!" She exclaims before walking to the flag and point at it. "Nyu!" She exclaims. She then takes her bandages off and points to the blood. "Nyu!"
"Don't take that off." Tucker warns before putting new bandages on. Church then walks back in.
"Hey Tucker, hows the patient." Church asks in his usual tone.
"Well she remembers something but I can't be sure what." Tucker replies.
"Then make a guess. I know you're not good at charades, but come on." Church says.
"Well, she remembers us and the reds, or she remembers that someone in blue armour shot her." Tucker replies. "Where the hell were you?"
"I contacted command to see if we could get a medic over here." Church answers.
"And?" Tucker asks.
"They said they didn't have any available, but rookie medics would be ready in about a year." Church answers.
"Well... fuck." Tucker simply replies. He turns back to Kaede. "Do you remember me?"
"Nyu?" Kaede says while nodding her head, however she looks unsure of herself.
"Well, at least she remembers me on some level." Tucker says with a sigh of relief. "What about him?" He points to Church.
"Nyu." Kaede shakes her head, this time completely sure of herself.
"Ha!" Tucker can't help but laugh.
"Aw, give me a fucking break." Church mutters. Kaede begins looking though the doorways.
"Hey? What are you looking for?" Tucker asks as he and Church watch her look around.
"Nyu!" She exclaims before heading into the storage room.
"I sure hope she doesn't end up breaking anything." Church whines. "Or ends up getting herself hurt." They follow her inside to find her starring at the fridge.
"Oh. Are you thirsty?" Tucker asks. "Would you like some water?"
"Hey, be sure to use the water sparingly." Church warns. "I heard the reds drained their whole water supply 2 years ago."
"How are they alive?" Tucker asks.
"I honestly don't know." Church replies.
Flashback
"Grif, theres no water coming out of the sink." Kaede complains as she try's again turning the faucet off and on.
"Oh, Sarge used all that up two weeks ago. Some science project or something. I didn't listen." Grif replies.
"Is there anywhere else I can get a drink?" Kaede asks.
"No. I just said ALL the water was used up." Grif repeats.
"What do you guys drink then?" Kaede worriedly asks.
"Oh, you know. Ketchup, barbecue sauce, cooking grease." Grif lists off. "Theres also soda but they stopped shipping that as often soon after the water ran out."
Kaede cringes at the selection and more so at Grif's casual tone as he answers. "How are you not dehydrated right now?" She asks.
"Its not like I drank water before we ran out of the stuff." Grif replies with his still nonchalant tone. "I only limit myself to the newest soft drink available along with the occasional beer. Oh yeah, we still have some of that stuff, want one?"
Kaede can't help but cringe more at Grif's lifestyle. She knew he ate a lot, slept constantly, almost never exercised, and was kinda fat under his armour, but this reached a whole new level.
"No thanks, I'm going to find Sarge." Kaede eventually replies.
"Eh. More beer for me anyway." Grif shrugs.
Present
Kaede watches as Tucker takes out a water bottle and pours it in a cup.
"There. One glass of water." Tucker says as he passes it to Kaede. She stares at it intently.
"Wa...ter?" She says.
"At least she knows a word now rather than nonsense." Church mentions.
"Nyu!" Kaede exclaims, almost angry at Church. She then puts her attention back on the glass of water. She slowly lifts it up to her lips and takes a sip. "Nyu!" She exclaims with happiness. "Water!" She thrusts the glass in the air, spilling water everywhere.
"I'll clean that up." Church groans as he gets a paper towel.
"Nyu?" Kaede puts the glass down and walks over to the place she spilt the water.
"Don't worry. Church will clean it up." Tucker explains.
"Nyu." Kaede says. She then tries to walk over to him only to slip on the water. "Nyuuuuuu!" She exclaims as she falls.
"Kaede!" Tucker rushes to her side. "Are you okay?"
"Owww." Kaede groans as she rubs her head. "Weren't we just outside?"
"Kaede! You're back to normal!" Tucker exclaims.
"Thank god for that." Church says as he arrives to take care of the mess.
"What do you mean normal?" Kaede asks as she rubs her bandaged head wound. "Was I hurt?"
"Um... that may have... ahem... something to do with it." Church awkwardly says.
"I wasn't wearing these today?" Kaede says, taking notice of her clothes.
"Oh... yeah... about that..." Tucker trails off.
