After Kaede's "memory loss" incident, the blues thought everything was over. However, when Kaede tripped on a rock during a scouting mission and supposedly lost her memory again, they knew this was probably going to be a recurring theme, and thus decided to roll with it.
Meanwhile, Kaede was surprised when Church and Tucker told her she had an alternate personality. That sure explained waking up in certain places and doing certain things having no memory of what came before. When she first heard she instantly became curious of what this other version of herself was like. Tucker described it to her as a child with a limited vocabulary and understanding of the world. He also mentioned she liked saying Nyu a lot, so Kaede decided to call this new side herself the same name.
In some way. Kaede wished she could meet Nyu. She could help teach her everything she needed to know about the world and they could be great friends. Since Kaede and Nyu shared the same body however, Kaede knew this would not be possible and the two would likely never share a conversation together.
Not only did Nyu come out when Kaede hit her head hard someway or another, she also woke up in place of Kaede some days. That made it strange when Kaede fell asleep on a Saturday and woke up on a Monday. She wished she would at least remember what Nyu did when she was in control so she wouldn't have these gaps in her memory.
Unfortunately it was something she had live with. She just hoped Nyu didn't do anything embarrassing when she was "awake", thankfully though, she only seemed to be awake around the blues... as far as she knew.
A year had passed and Church had received orders that a new recruit along with a special package would be arriving. Kaede was ecstatic and somewhat nervous of this new member. On one hand, having a new friend on the blue team would be awesome. She didn't really interact with people aside from the members of red team and blue team, so this was a rare opportunity to make a new friend. On the other hand, he could end up thinking strangely of her due to her horns and her alternate personality and forsake her for it. She had also heard red team would be receiving a new member along with a special package at around the same time blue team would, theres. All the excitements and concerns for blue teams rookie also went toward the red teams new recruit.
Before long, a ship arrived dropping off a soldier in blue armour, similar to Tuckers when she first met him, and a TANK! As soon as the ship left, she Tucker, Church, and the new guy just stood there and admired the machine left before them. As this is going on the new guy recounts a conversation he had regarding getting the tank on the ship. So far, he doesn't seem so bad too Kaede.
"Hey, kid?" Tucker interrupts.
"Yeah?" The new guy asks.
"You're ruining the moment. Shut up." Tucker simply replies.
"Oh. Okay. You got it, man." The new guy responds.
"You know what? I could blow up the whole god damn world with this thing." Church states, still looking at the tank.
"If you could hit it that is." Kaede quips. Tucker laughs at the burn.
"Oh, wha-! I can hit a fucking planet!" Church cries.
"Its okay Church..." Kaede says soothingly. "We all have trouble aiming, especially downwards."
"I don't get it." The new guy says.
"Working with us, you will soon." Tucker assures. The group then go back to admiring the tank. "You know what? forget what I said before. We can definitely pick up chicks in this thing. Probably two or three chicks a piece."
"Oh man, listen to you. What're you gonna do with two chicks?" Church jokingly asks.
"Church, women are like Voltron. The more you can hook up, the better it gets." Tucker replies. Th new guy turns to Kaede.
"Is that true?" He asks.
"I would't know. My only friends are all boys." Kaede informs him.
"You know, I actually got a girl back home." Church tells the group.
"You do?! Why haven't you mentioned this before?" Kaede exclaims.
"Its a long story, Kaede." Church says.
"Girlfriend or wife?" Tucker asks.
"No, man, she's just my girlfriend you know? We were gonna get married but shipped out, and... ah, you know how it works." Church says.
"Oh, well, you gonna marry her when you get back?" Tucker asks.
"I'm not gonna get married. My dad always said 'why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free.'" The new guy explains.
"With that line of thinking, you're definitely not getting married." Kaede frowns.
"Yeah! Did you just call my girlfriend a cow!?" Church exclaims.
"No, I think he called her a slut." Tucker explains.
"I'll tell you what noob, I could sit here and listen to you insult my girlfriend all day long, but as it turns out, I got a lot more important job for you to do." Church says.
"Great." The new guys says in a defeated tone.
"See, we've got this General." Church starts.
"Right, the General guy." Tucker continues.
"What General guy? I've been here four years and I've never seen a general come by here?" Kaede questions.
"Just run along with us okay." Tucker whispers to her.
"Who likes to come by and make random inspections of the base." Church explains. "So what I'm gonna have you do, is I'm gonna have you go in the base, and stand right next to the flag at attention, just incase he decides to come by."
"When is he coming?" New guy asks.
"We never know. Could be today, could be a week from now." Church answers. Kaede frowns, seeing what Church and Tucker are doing. After they tell him to stand at attention until the "general" arrives, the new guy heads inside the base and Kaede speaks her mind.
"That was very mean, what you did." Kaede tells them.
"Oh, it'll be fine. Its just some harmless fun." Church says. "Also, it'll give us some peace and quiet."
"Yeah! Besides, every pulls a prank on the rookie on their first day!" Tucker adds. "It happened to me when I first got into high school."
"Still, you shouldn't pull those kinds of pranks on anyone. Whats next? You spilt milk all over his things? You're accidentally tripping him? Keep this up and you'll be just like the kids at the orphanage who bullied me!" Kaede exclaims.
"Hey! don't compare us to those sick fucks!" Tucker says seriously.
"Besides, we told him to go stand somewhere for awhile as punishment for insulting my girlfriend." Church explains. "Thats nowhere NEAR animal abuse."
"Good point. Guess I went a little too far." Kaede sighs. "I'm going to give him some company." She turns back and heads inside the base. When she gets inside, the new guy is standing at attention at the flag, just as ordered. "You don't have to do that."
"Oh... good... I... I wasn't sure if I could stay like that for a week." The new guys says with relief.
"I don't think we've been introduced. My names Kaede." Kaede holds out her hand.
"Hello. I'm Caboose." Caboose shakes her hand. Damn, he had a really strong grip. "Are we friends now?"
"Yes. I'd like to think so." Kaede agrees. "Don't mind Church and Tucker. They're justing having a little fun with you since you're new."
"Ahhh- what do you mean?" Caboose asks.
"We never have a General come for inspection." Kaede informs him. In the back of her mind, Kaede does find it weird that the reds have inspections but the blues don't. "They were just playing a prank. They won't do it again."
"Oh. Good. Are Church and Tucker not good friends?" Caboose asks.
"No, they are. Church may yell a lot and Tucker doesn't take a lot seriously, but they'll be good friends once you get to know them." Kaede assures him.
"Okay... good. I had a feeling Church would be a good friend. I don't know about that Tucker though." Caboose tells her.
"Caboose. Your going to have to know something before we start living and working together." Kaede says, getting serious.
"Yes. You can tell me anything." Caboose says, NOT matching the serious tone.
"I... have a second personality." Kaede says. "Like sometimes I'll be someone else. From what Church and Tucker have told, she like a curious child that doesn't know much about the world. She doesn't know many words. We call her Nyu. So if I'm acting strangely and only speaking with a few words, I'm not messing with you. I'm not in control, okay?"
"You are also someone else!" Caboose gasps. "That is so cool!" Kaede breaths a sigh of relief. At least Caboose is accepting of that part of her. Then, all of a sudden, Sarge walks into the base.
"Why is everyone so freakin' rude in this canyon?" Sarge questions. Except, his voice is different. Must be the new recruit for the red team.
"I'm not, sir. What can I do for you?" Caboose asks.
"Finally, someone with a little respect around here." The new red guy says.
"Don't let it get to you." Kaede assures. "They don't mean anything by it. Just join in when you can."
"Good to know." The new guy says (the newer one).
"Aren't you on the red team?" Kaede asks.
"Yeah. The guys over there aren't as rude." New guys says. "I haven't been there for long, I've just come to pick up some elbow grease."
"Ummm, I don't think we have that here." Kaede says.
"Aw, man. Got any headlight fluid?" New guy asks.
"Headlights need fluid?" Kaede questions.
"Aw, yes, the tank needed all kinds of fluids that I didn't even know it needed." Caboose asks. "I don't remember them all."
"Yeah, I don't understand cars." Kaede adds.
"Aw man, this figures. Shit." New guy mutters.
"Why do you need these things?" Kaede asks.
"The guys over at my base sent me to get em for our car." New guy explains. "They're having trouble on what to name it."
'So, first day pranks are universal.' Kaede thinks to herself. She's been at the orphanage most her life, so she didn't remember her first day, though even after that first day the "pranks" never stopped.
"Listen-" Kaede starts. She then slips on a bag left on the floor and falls to the ground, hitting her head.
"Whoops. Forgot to pack away my things." Caboose casually says looking dow at the fallen Kaede. It was his bag she tripped on. He hadn't unpacked yet.
"I guess I can't go back empty handed." New guy says to himself. "Can I take that flag?"
"Yes, General... person." Caboose responds. "That makes sense." The new guy takes the flag while Caboose attends to Kaede. "Friend Kaede? Are you alright?" Kaede looks back up at him.
"Nyu?" She asks.
"Did you hear a cat just now?" Caboose asks her.
"Nyu?" Nyu points to Caboose.
"Yes. Me. Caboose." Caboose responds.
"Nyu!" Nyu points to herself.
"Yes. I'm new." Caboose says. Nyu shakes her head then points to herself.
"Nyu." She states.
"Yes. You are probably right. I should let Church know the general took the flag." Caboose says. "He'll probably say I did a good job." Caboose leaves.
"Nyu." Nyu says in a saddened tone. If only she could use more words, she would let Caboose know that was her name. He seemed really nice. Plus, he likes kitties! Nyu thinks.
