I NEVER have A/Ns in the beginning of a chapter, but let me HIGHLY recommend that if you're able, to turn on some hospital ambience for this entire chapter. It'll help a lot! I also suggest playing this song in this link (copy and paste into a search engine bar) watch?v=MLZ2IkuOIz8 at the same time as the ambience and looping it for most of the chapter. Anyways, enjoy!

When Oscar and Ruby's eyes met, both's breaths were taken away.

Oscar felt every inch of him yearning to hug her and embrace her as much as he could, laughing and kissing and hugging her to his heart's content.

Ruby felt all of the pain she was experiencing get shoved to the back of her mind at the sight of him. From the moment she'd first woke up, her first thought was of him. Then the thoughts were worry for his health. Then it was just purely missing him.

The two stared at each other with wide eyes and slightly open mouths.

Then, very slowly, a tear spilled out of Ruby's eye and the same happened to Oscar. A smile broke out on Ruby's face and then on Oscar's. Then Ruby began to laugh with relief and joy, and Oscar joined in.

He closed to gap between them and bent down low so he could hug her. Ruby, slightly painfully, raised her arms to except the hug, and the two held their arms around each other.

"You smell like a million different things right now," she whispered into his ear. Her face was buried in his broad shoulder, cushioned by the robe.

"So do you," he mumbled back.

"What do I smell like?" Ruby asked curiously. Their voices were muffled throughout the conversation.

"Medicine," he answered. Ruby giggled and snuggled her face deeper into his neck and shoulder.

"That's only one thing," she said. Oscar shrugged, causing her face and neck to rise along with it and go down the same way.

"What do I smell like?" he inquired next.

"Food and medicine and Listerine," she replied.

"That's only three things," he shot back with a chuckle.

"That's just a general answer," she giggled. They slowly let go of each other and smiled into each other's faces. Both hearts were beating rapidly. Ruby's rate was on display on the monitor beside her bed.

"So you're hearts racing too?" he said with a grin. Ruby rolled her eyes.

"Yeah, yeah. I missed you."

"Aww, I missed you too."

Oscar had an immense desire to kiss her at that moment. They'd done it before, so why not? Maybe it was just because of the circumstances before that they had...maybe she wouldn't want to right now. Or maybe not in front of Mable. Or maybe not because of-

"Oh my gosh, I'm starving!" Ruby said suddenly, excusing Oscar's train of thought from its route, "I don't know about you, but I wanna order something right now."

"Oh, uh..," Oscar said, "I mean, I guess I am kinda hungry right now, so sure."

Ruby clapped her hands together excitedly. She eyed the hospital menus that were always sitting on the cart beside her bed. The cart had a fold out table-like thing on the side of it and some random brochures and a tissue box on the part below it.

Oscar grabbed them for her and gave her one. He analyzed her appearance, comparing it to what he'd seen earlier.

She was dressed in the same robe as he was, only it was on much loser and the neckline dropped a little lower. It exposed a small shadow of her cleavage and Oscar battled the urge to stare.

Her hair was reasonably messy, but it was cute like that with the red highlights mixed in frizzily with the rest of the black. A bandage was wrapped tightly around her rib area, setting apart her upper torso from her round stomach to a very obvious degree.

Because her skin was naturally pale before, it was very white now. It did nothing to diminish her beauty, though, and her eyes looked energetic and alive as usual. He could tell, with much, much relief, that her soul and her mind were not as fazed as her body.

"What do I want..," Ruby asked out loud, tapping her chin lightly with her finger.

Oscar smiled widely. It was so, so good to hear her voice again. Not just that, but she seemed to be doing rather well. He still needed to ask her and that nurse lady about her condition and such. But right now they were reuniting.

Oscar glanced at his menu, scrolled his eyes down the dinner section, and then chose one that sounded kind of good. He looked back up at Ruby and saw her with a very perplexed, deep-in-thought look on her face. She was staring hard at the same section Oscar had been.

"Just choose one, Ruby," he laughed.

"Well, I know it's close to dinner time-wait, what time is it?" she began, but quickly snapped her eyes to the clock on the wall in front of her. It was a digital clock with military time in big red numbers.

"It's 17:32," Oscar replied. His smile widened further when Ruby cast an unamused frown at him with that adorable face of hers.

"Fine, fine," he chuckled, "It's 5:32."

"Thanks," she muttered, "You know how much I hate none-clear answers, especially about the time." She crossed her arms and glared at the menu.

"Y'know, I'm really in the mood for breakfast food right now," she said. Oscar raised a brow. Then he suddenly made a realization and looked at his menu with eager eyes.

"Hey Ruby," he said, his voice hinting vaguely at something.

"Hm?" she asked. She quickly moved her head to face him.

"Do you suppose you'd want the chopped fresh fruit option as a side to one of the main dishes?" he said. Ruby's eyes lit up and she vigorously nodded.

"Oh yeah," she agreed, "I'd really like that!"

"And do you suppose..," he continued suggestively, "That there might be...say, a specific fruit in that assortment?"

Ruby paused to think for a moment before her brain suddenly understood Oscar's implication.

Her mouth dropped open with a loud gasp, she snatched the large white phone in the corner of her bed, which every patient had, and then she dialed in the hospital kitchen number in the blink of an eye.

She quietly winced at her sudden movements, pain flaring up her ribs, but ignored it in her eagerness. Oscar cast a concerned look at her.

Oscar thought he saw a drop of sweat roll down the side of her face as she waited for someone to pick up. The moment someone did, she blurted out exactly what she wanted to.

"I'd like the assorted fruit option from the breakfast list on the menu!" she ordered. Oscar wanted to laugh so hard at her reaction to what he'd been implying.

If there really was watermelon in that fruit option, which most fruit assortments provided, then she could finally be satisfied. Her never-quelled-before, begging, and absolutely insane pregnancy craving for watermelon would bring her so much joy, he beamed just imagining it.

That would be the most satisfyingly satisfying satisfaction for someone to be satisfied.

He watched with amusement as her brow knitted with confusing, eagerness, and demand while a barely audible voice answered her on the phone.

"Oh, uh, yeah, I'll have a main, too," she said. Her face immediately dropped all of its tenseness as she quickly chose something from the menu. "The big blueberry muffin with all the side items, please. Tons of bacon."

She slowly began nodding her head to whatever the guy on the phone said. Then she gave Oscar an expectant look, widening her eyes and hissing at him to hurry and give an answer.

"What do you want?!" her mouth worded silently to him.

"What do I want?" Oscar asked. To her eager nod, he quickly replied,

"Tell him I'll have the seventh item on the dinner list," he said, "With all the items listed so it doesn't complicate things."

"He'll have the seventh thing on the dinner part," Ruby said, "With like, everything it says it'll come with so your jobs easier."

Oscar smirked at her simplified Ruby version of what he'd said. He was technically mentally younger than her, but the difference was surprisingly small. In fact, because of what he'd gone through with the fact he was a man nearly elevated his maturity to hers. In a way. Sort of.

Ruby finally hung up the phone and fell back against the pillows with a happy sigh. Her face was a bit more red, indicating that she was probably somewhat worked up about this new possibility.

"There better be some watermelon in that," she half-growled-half-hopefully-murmured, "If it doesn't, I'll sue this hospital and kill all the staff."

"Woah, woah," Oscar said quickly, surprised, "Don't have to go saying stuff like that...That's a little overboard." He let out a nervous, half humored laugh. He was only nervous because Mable was staring at them.

He secretly hoped that Mable would leave so he could actual spend some quality time with Ruby without someone staring at them and judging their every move. He was too introverted and polite to ask her to leave.

"What, I wasn't serious," Ruby snapped back, "Don't take stuff like that seriously." She gave his arm a playful swat and he laughed at her.

She winced slightly from the pain that sprung up by her ribs when she had swatted him. Oscar immediately put his hand on her arm and looked deeply in her eyes.

"Are you alright?" he asked quickly.

"Yeah," Ruby said, "It just hurts a ton by my ribs. I dunno what exactly happened there, but whatever it was, it really hurts. What happened?"

Oscar blinked.

"You mean...you don't even know?" he said.

Ruby shook her head innocently. "Nope."

"So you blacked out the instant that Grimm hit you?"

"I dunno. Maybe."

Oscar sighed and then stretched.

"I guess it's story time, then," he sighed. He sat himself down on the large green chair in the corner and scooted it closer to Ruby. Then he folded his hands behind his head and laid back.

"The Grimm got you just as me and Jaune killed it," he began, "Like, we stabbed it immediately as it was injuring you. Pretty scary, right?"

Ruby nodded her head eagerly.

"Well, the blizzard was getting really bad," Oscar continued, "So Jaune wanted me to take you all by myself to the city we were planning on going to."

"Why'd he want you to do that?" Ruby interrupted with a confused face, "Doesn't he sort of hate you a little right now?"

"I'm getting to that," Oscar said, "My aura was apparently the highest out of everyone else's at the time, so would be able to go on faster without losing my aura and freezing to death. Jaune said he couldn't use his semblance to help you because he'd hardly get anything done by the time his aura ran out and he froze to death, so that's why he didn't do that.

"So I took you and walked through that awful storm. The wind was blowing all in my face, I could barely see, my leg hurt really bad...It was all the bad feelings. But I managed to get us to the city. Long story short, I found someone to help us get from that city to this one, which is way bigger and more diverse."

"Wait, this isn't the city we were originally trying to get to?" Ruby asked.

"No," Oscar said, shaking his head, "Turns out, that one is just a normal city. It has a rode leading to this one, and don't even ask why there's a giant city like this in the middle of nowhere in Solitas. I have no clue."

"Weird," she murmured.

"Yup," Oscar said, "So I met this guy named Sammy, but his real name is...uh, I think it was Saumy. I'm pretty sure it means 'sober' in another language."

"How would you know that?" Ruby teased, "Especially since Ozpin isn't here anymore to give you all those millenniums of knowledge." A happy smile slid onto her face.

"You ever heard of these things called books?" Oscar said with a non-serious frown, "They're these amazing things that teach you stuff that you don't know!"

Ruby laughed. "Sorry, sorry, go on."

Oscar rolled his eyes with a smile and continued again.

"He drove us all the way here, which took him almost 3 hours, I think...Then he brought us to the lobby and..."

"And?" Ruby asked expectantly.

"I think I passed out," Oscar said thoughtfully, "Yeah, because I was losing a bunch of blood from my leg and was super exhausted, even though I slept on the way here."

"Oof," Ruby winced.

"And now you know the rest," Oscar finished, "I woke up, had to deal with all this hospital stuff, and finally found you. OH! And Jaune's sister works here! Can you believe that?"

They laughed.

"Seriously?!" Ruby exclaimed, "That's so cool! I wanna meet her."

"You probably can," said Oscar, "She's really nice. I think I could technically text her with my scroll, since she's texted mine before about your condition when you were in the ICU..."

"I was in the ICU?!" Ruby cried, shocked, "Oh my gosh!"

"Yeah, you were in bad shape," Oscar said. His tone lowered and he felt a wave of fear and sadness from before roll through him.

"Oscar, are you okay?" Ruby asked quietly, noticing his sudden shift in demeanor.

"I was really, really scared, you know," Oscar said, his voice wavering with emotion, "I...I honestly thought I'd lost you...over and over again during the trip there."

"Aww," Ruby murmured, "That's so sweet. I'm glad you're here, too! I was worried sick when they told me you were on a different floor as a patient. I didn't know if it meant you were in worse condition or better."

She looked back up at him and noticed the twinkling layer of wetness in his eyes. She leaned forwards, brushing away a tear that had escaped.

"Oh, Oscar, don't worry," she soothed, "I'm here...I'm here."

"I know," Oscar said, closing his eyes and allowing another tear to fall, "It was just really scary."

"Aww..."

Oscar heard the door open and close and saw Mable leaving in the corner of his eye.

"Well, you saved me," Ruby said, "And that makes you my hero." She beamed at him with that sunny, wonderful smile of hers. Gratitude shined in her eyes, expressing it better than any words she could or had offered.

"Thanks, Ruby," he whispered.

"No, thank you," she corrected him, "You saved me, so you're the one to thank." She hesitated a moment before leaning forwards more and giving him a short kiss to his cheek. "Thank you."

Both of them blushed, giving each other a nervous laugh when they gave met eyes.

"Sorry, sorry," Ruby giggly apologized. She brushed her hair from her face and sat back, smiling with red cheeks.

"No, I liked it," Oscar said, "Euh...yeah, thanks. I-I'm glad you think I'm your hero."

The exchange was overall awkward, but the two knew exactly how the other felt about them. Awkward was a huge part of their relationship. Love and fuzzy feelings were somewhere on the list. The pregnancy had been the base of it all.

A knock sounded on the door.

Ruby and Oscar quickly recomposed themselves from their somewhat romantic and emotional state and cleared their throats. Oscar wiped his eyes and sniffed, shooing away his emotions.

"Yes?" Ruby called.

"It's dinner," a staff member called back.

Ruby smiled excitedly and eagerly beaconed him into the room. He brought in a cart with two trays and a couple of small plates. An aroma of food drifted through the air and wafted past their noses, making their stomachs growl more intensely.

"Give it here!" Ruby practically commanded him. He quickened his pace and gave each of them their ordered food. Then he smiled at them and left, taking his cart with them and saying a quick, "Enjoy and get well soon!"

"Thanks!" Ruby and Oscar both answered in unison. The door closed and they were alone together again.

"I wonder if your craving is finally going to be satisfied," Oscar said as flatly as possible after a moment of silence went by. Ruby growled playfully at him but then stared at her tray with a watering mouth.

"Let's find out!" she exclaimed. She ardently began going through the items on her tray until she set eyes on the bowl of fruit. Eyes widening, she lifted it into her hands and stared hard into it, scanning skillfully for any signs of watermelon.

Oscar wondered how in Remnant anyone could be so analytic and slow in finding some mere chunks of watermelon in a bowl of fruit. It'd literally take a glance.

"Find any..?" Oscar began, but was instantly cut off my a loud squeal of delight.

Ruby's eyes widened and her cheeks turn bright red with excitement. She shoved her spoon into the bowl and fished through it so that only watermelon filled it. Then she shoved it in her mouth.

Her eyes closed. A sigh of sweet relief left her. Her mood immediately calmed down. Another sigh left her, but it was longer and full of happiness.

"So...good..!" she squeaked. Oscar smiled.

"Well, you finally got what you wanted," he said, "Feeling better?"

Ruby nodded her head faster than a running fan. She wolfed down the rest of the watermelon on that small bowl, feeling waves of satisfaction pulse through her at the cool, watery, sweet, delicacy in her mouth.

The duration of this watermelon paradise was very short, however, as there weren't infinite amounts of watermelon in the bowl. It was quickly consumed and Ruby was left to wallow in misery.

"Oh, why?! Why?!" Ruby demanded dramatically, shoving her face into her pillow, "Why was there only that much in there?! Pitiful! Irredeemable! Shameful! Inconceivable!"

Oscar burst out laughing. He'd missed her a lot, so getting so much of her in that amount of time was like heaven. He laughed and he laughed and he laughed, unable to control himself or stop.

Ruby frowned, but then smiled. His happiness, real, real happiness, was also very good to see. If she made him that happy, that was all she needed.

That night was a calm night. Oscar filled her in with the details about how they got there and what happened while they ate, then Ruby had explained to him what her wound was.

A very wide gash expanded over her rib area, wide and long enough to cover over the entire left side of her ribs and deep enough to apparently expose the exterior of some of the ribs themselves. That was what the operating doctors had told her, anyway. She'd woken up at around noon that day, also.

Because her aura was somewhat reserved because of her pregnancy, the healing process would be extensive compared to normal, but they were confident she would recover in due time.

The wound required daily cleaning to prevent infection and she'd had a blood transfusion in the ICU before she could lose too much. Ruby quoted the doctor, saying that she'd "lost 30% of her blood by the time the transfusion began".

"Woah..," Oscar marveled, "That's a lot of blood."

"I know!" Ruby agreed.

The two of them finally decided to relax for the night. Oscar had a mild worry in his mind about the fact that he was probably supposed to return to his room, but dismissed it. He was with Ruby right now.

The sounds of the hospital were comforting and soothing, especially in the night. Even with the lights off, the dim glow of a few lights on any machines or computers in the room illuminated it faintly to some degree. It was a cozy light, though.

A crack of light shone from under the door, showing that the lights in the hallway never turned off. The large windows beside them had tiny patches of ice in their corners with snow crusted on, creating little fractals around them.

No snow was falling at the moment, but they could see the magnificent, colorful view of the city from the floor they were on. Every single outdoor light, which consisted of shops, street lights, signs, cross walks, the grand bridge, and various other miscellaneous things, was on, lighting up the city like a Christmas tree.

So the light from the city coming in through the window also added onto the cozy dim glow that filled the dark room. Oscar felt warm and happy with Ruby beside him, and she felt warm and safe.

She was about to go to sleep when she heard Oscar lift his head suddenly and point a finger excitedly in the air.

"I've got it!" he said eagerly. He looked at Ruby with shining eyes.

She groaned and rubbed her eyes, sitting up a bit so that she could see him better. A blue light from the corner of the TV mounted on the wall lit up his hazel eyes and gave them an interesting tint and color.

"What..," she asked sleepily.

"We should name the baby Jubilee!" he replied, "You know, because jubilee is a kind of watermelon? If it's a girl, we could name her that because of your crazy watermelon craving!"

Ruby mumbled something indecipherable under her breath and gave him an uninterested look in her bleary eyes.

"You're funny," she finally answered, "I don't really like that name, though."

Oscar shrugged and scooted even closer to her. "Yeah, but think about how great that'd be!"

He cleared his throat and leaned his head backwards while keeping his neck in the same place, making a weird serious face as if imitating someone.

"Just imagine how someone comes over and is like, 'Why'd you name your daughter Jubilee?'. And then I'd say, 'Because my wife had a crazy watermelon craving when she was pregnant with her!'"

He dropped his hand onto his leg a bit harder so it slapped somewhat. "Funny, right?"

Ruby smiled and, with some effort that was pain provoking, she rolled over onto her good side. Fortunately, it was the side that faced him. Propping her head up with her elbow, she stared at him.

"You've really been thinking about names?" she said with a soft giggle, "I'm actually surprised. But I'm also happy about that, so thanks."

He felt his heart warm. He had to admit, the position she was in was really cute. The combination of his heart warming along with the admirable state of her appearance made a wide smile come to his face.

"Well, I had to come up with something..," he muttered gently.

Ruby seemed to hesitate again, but for a reason he couldn't figure out. She remained in the position she was in, probably because it was painful to move onto her back, and held a thoughtful look on her face.

"Oscar?" she asked. Her voice was quiet and tentative. Oscar looked up at her.

"Yeah?"

"C-could you...maybe...sleep with me?" she requested. Her cheeks were burning a bright red and she didn't even lock eyes with him. Oscar's cheeks imitated hers and he felt himself getting all flustered.

"Uh..!" Oscar stammered back, "W-what kind did you m-mean?"

Ruby's blush deepened even more and she partially hid her face in the sheets.

"Just next to me," came her small, muffled reply, "Nothing else. Just that."

"W-why?" Oscar choked out.

"You make me feel safe," she answered softly, "I missed you a lot, too, even if we weren't apart for very long. It's lonely being around the rest of the group but not being able to spend alone time with you...if you get what I mean..."

Oscar's heartstrings were officially pulled. He almost grasped at his chest where his heart was from the beat of warmth and love that came as a result of her words.

I make her feel safe? She misses me when she's around the others, even when I'm with them?

He wondered if it was possible to smile larger than he was right now. Every part of his was overflowing with love and joy. Something inside of him reminded him of their planned future and his heart leaped higher than ever before.

"If that's the case," he answered gently, "Then sure."

He got up from his chair and came over to the other side of Ruby's bed. He pulled the covers back, revealing Ruby's robed body, bandaged torso, and swollen stomach, and then crawled carefully into the bed.

"How close?" he whispered.

"As close as you can," she whispered back, "Just please don't touch the hurt spot."

He nodded, mostly to himself, and scooted as close as he could to her without touching her. Her body was warm and the robe felt somehow softer than his own, even though they were probably the same.

Where can I hold her where she isn't hurt?

Then he knew where. His hand slid over the blankets and then went under, placing itself over her stomach. The other slid under her shoulder so that she was now laying on his arm with his hand on her other shoulder blade.

His eyes drooped, from sleepiness and from the comfort that she brought him just by being there. She snuggled down into his hold, nestling her face into her hand. His cheeks were hot now, but he ignored the bits of embarrassment that swarmed his head.

He suddenly felt a movement beneath the hand on her stomach. Now wide awake again, he lifted his head to catch a glimpse of it. His hand covered the majority of her belly's surface, so he couldn't actually see what was happening, but the baby, or babies, were moving right now.

He couldn't tell which part of the baby it was, but it was so interesting and precious. A feeling of fatherly love stirred in him and he allowed his chin to rest on Ruby's shoulder.

"Have they been moving like this a lot?" he asked in a dreary voice.

"Mh hm," she murmured, "All the time."

"And you don't bother to tell me?" he quietly chuckled. Ruby stirred as some kind of a shrug and remained still.

She's totally almost asleep.

Oscar let his eyes close, comforted by Ruby and the movements of her-no, their baby under his hand. The hospital noises lulled him, and he finally dropped off into an actually relaxed sleep.

This chapter was written almost a year ago. My writing quality and interests have changed and developed since this stream of chapters were written. I decided to post all that I have written over the last year for this story all at once for the sake of the viewers. This story WILL end; don't worry. I think it's dumb now, but y'all like it, so I'll finish it. Apologies for my uncalled for disappearance! All the poster-chapter A/Ns were also written after the chapters were written.

AUGH it's so CUTE! Sorry, I can imagine this scene so vividly, it makes me sad that it isn't an animated thing. Hope y'all enjoyed that fluff and sweetness. Maybe not everyone here likes cotton candy, but it's what I had this chapter. Also, sorry if I mentioned things like "shadow of her cleavage" or "she looked cute". I'm getting a little older, so stuff like that shows up a bit. Nothing further, though. That's about as far as I'll really go.

Repeat that line, "the most satisfyingly satisfying satisfaction to be satisfied" five times over and tell me if the word "satisfy" sounds like an actual English word. :)

BETA READER NOTE: I gotta say I find it funny how something as simple as "Shadow of cleavage" is a big deal for Miasushi considering what America's current popular fashion is. It astounds me she cannot see how wholesome something like that actually is in this day and age. So everyone, take a page from Miasushi here and, and remain wholesome and avid imaginaters.

Awwww, thank you, ArthurSG! (He was my beta reader :3)

Thanks for reading and tune in for more chapters!
