FYI - The Grey's Anatomy characters aren't mine, of course, but this is obviously a little spin on the show so all the alterations were things I chose. Like Dr. Bailey is a teacher while they are not so that's not realistic but I feel like her relationship to everyone is kind of the same lol. Stick with it, it's my first time writing so I'm definitely open to constructive criticism. Also, I know Derek was supposed to be a loser and Meredith had pink hair in high school, but we're ignoring it for this story. That's all for now.

Chapter 1

Derek didn't used to be like this. In fact, he was never the kind of guy that put too much stress on his love life. Usually, it just came to him. The perfectly moussed hair and the varsity letters spoke for themselves. He wasn't the guy that had to beg the girls to come to him, they would come then they would have their fun. Despite all his successes with girls in the past, day after day he found himself almost… awestruck with the girl that stood in front of her green metal locker grabbing her books. Meredith Grey, Meredith Grey, Meredith Grey. Even her name was perfect. Her green eyes sparkled in the light, the perfect curves of her body, and the soft smile that always played on her lips. He had to have her and he knew that wasn't gonna be easy in comparison to girls like Addison or Rose.

"Damn, would you stop drooling? We might need to get the janitor to clean all your spit. It's fucking embarrassing."

"But have you seen her, man?" Derek muttered to his best friend, Mark, noticing how the golden locks of her hair ran smoothly down her back from across the high school corridor.

"Who hasn't? I'd totally hit that if she would let me," Mark replied while he quickly glanced over his back in her direction. But, to be honest, who wouldn't Mark try to hook up with? It's a part of his nature.

"You know she's already off-limits, especially to you," Derek scoffed, still training his eyes on the beautiful girl that was now speaking to one of her friends.

Meredith Grey was one of the most beautiful girls in the school, demanding attention from guys in every grade. Derek realized that she was only a junior, yet he couldn't help but feel anything but lovesick when it came to her. He just had to find a way into her realm, so she would notice him in a way more than just lab partners.

"Dude, I think you would chop my balls off if I even stepped within a foot of her."

"And there's a reason for that. I need to find a way to be more to her than just another guy. I heard there's a party this weekend. Maybe I'll try with her then," Derek thought out loud as the bell rang, signifying the start of the school day. In sync with the bell, Meredith made her way towards Mark and Derek's lockers in the hallway. Derek immediately felt his spine straighten as he held his fist to his mouth and slightly coughed.

"Hi, Derek. Hi, whore," Meredith giggled as she passed their usual spots.

Not to mention, she has good humor too. Derek had to hand it to her for being such a problem for Mark's ego. He joined her melodious giggle with his strong laugh after he said hi back to her, which elicited a slap on Mark's back before he started to make his way to his first-period class.

"I'll see you at lunch, whore," Derek slipped out, not even trying to mask his laugh at this point.

"Holy shit, you won't see me if I don't kill you first," Mark called and Derek felt his best friend's eyes roll even if his own back was turned.

Derek smiled and stopped to talk to various friends in the hallway before he stepped into Dr. Bailey's first-period AP Chemistry class. Fortunately for Derek, he got to start his day with Meredith. He always stole glances at her and it definitely helped to be her assigned lab partner for the semester. He closed the wooden door behind him and set his sights on her. He started towards her while his stomach did flips over and over. Derek Shepherd was not this kind of guy. Except now he was, in his senior year of high school. He couldn't help it.

As he was about to slide into his chestnut-colored wooden arm desk, a foreign hand found itself gripping onto his t-shirt clad shoulder. Derek quickly peeled his eyes from Meredith who sat right beside him and landed on his teacher's face, who stationed himself right next to Derek's desk.

"Uh… Hey Dr. Bailey, what's up?" Derek pondered to the middle-aged woman. A nervous smile crept along with his usual confident and proud features. He could feel Meredith's eyes, as well as his whole class's, burn a hole through his raven hair.

"Nice of you to finally join us, Mr. Shepherd… Where are ya comin' from?"

"You know… just forgot my textbooks in my locker, had to turn around. C'mon, Miranda, you know me."

"That's Dr. Bailey to you, fool. And I hope you find a better organization method that actually helps you get to my class on time. Ya wastin' my time," Dr. Bailey spit out, harshly turning towards the front of the room hoping to finally start her lesson plan.

"Sorry," he managed as his throat finally was creating saliva again. Derek sheepishly turned towards Meredith, hoping he wasn't being laughed at because… what just happened is definitely not a boost in winning her heart over.

His silent prayers were not paying off as Meredith ducked her head towards the opposite wall, trying to hide her amusement in the situation. He inwardly groaned as he buried his head in his hands and Dr. Bailey's voice filled the room again.

"Alright, everyone. You know my rules, you have them memorized, get to your lab stations, and follow the instructions given to you on the paper. This lab is specifically aimed towards Human Anatomy, a particularly hard unit, so please ask questions and don't do anything stupid," she finished, signaling Derek to send his best smile in Meredith Grey's direction.

"Okay, I actually need a good grade on this lab so no flirting today, Derek," Meredith responded to his smile.

"Give me a little more credit! I am a great lab partner. In fact, you need a lab partner like me," he smirked right back towards her. She was beautiful when she wanted something, so sometimes he welcomed the resistance to his comments.

"Whatever. Let's just get this done right now."

"Okay, okay."

With that, they got to work the rest of the period, along with Derek adding in some harmless flirting. She didn't seem like she hated it, which was a good sign, but she definitely had a few eye rolls in his direction. The class period started to come to a close, but Derek had a mission before he left the constraints of Dr. Bailey.

"Let me take you out to dinner sometime. This Friday even," Derek said before he could even stop himself.

"I can't," Meredith responded, barely even taking a second to think about his offer.

"Forget about the party."

"You know about the party?"

"Your friends will be at the party. You and I will be alone," Derek said with confidence, his eyes holding hers in place.

"How do you know about the party? It's mostly juniors anyways."

"Thanks for inviting me by the way. That felt good"

"Didn't I just say it was mostly juniors?"

"Dinner. Think about dinner, then let me know. Perfect opportunity," Derek said slyly as the bell rang. Meredith was saved by the bell, literally, allowing for her to make the perfect exit and ignore his last statement. He sighed heavily, earning a glare from Dr. Bailey, causing him to b-line out of the classroom.

He would make this work with Meredith. There's no way he wouldn't make this work, he had to have her. At least she knows what he wants now, he put it all out there after half of a year of flirting with her in their chemistry lab. Worst case, he would bring Mark and Weiss to this party her friend is throwing so he could find her and spend time with her. That's all he wanted right now. Time with her.

The next update will be the party… I think I'll pull some more lines from the show because it's fun. Read and review.
