The final chapter is here! I hope you enjoyed this fic, it was short and mostly sweet but I just had the urge to write some insecure Bakugou with some pining thrown in there
Chapter 3
Kirishima decided to start off slow, well he didn't really have a choice in that, seeing as how Bakugou was still avoiding him. His heart sank as he remembered how Bakugou had paired up with someone else for sparing that day, not even looking Kirishima's way. He shook the thought off as he unloaded 10 packets of Bakugou's favourite spicy noodles. Putting them in the usual spot in the kitchen Bakugou kept his. They were way too hot for anyone else to eat so he didn't have to worry about Bakugou thinking they were someone else's. He sighed as he looked at the full cupboard, it wasn't much but it was a start. If Bakugou needed to see how sorry Kirishima was, then he'd do everything in his power to show him. To show just how much Bakugou meant to him.
The next morning Kirishima woke up early and made his way to the kitchen where he made himself and Bakugou matching bento lunches. He wasn't much of a cook, but he put everything he had into it, ensuring that he included some of the blondes' favourites. He clearly labelled it and put it in the fridge for later. He then dashed back upstairs and chucked on his running clothes before waiting near the front doors to their dorm for Bakugou to leave for his run.
When Bakugou did finally arrive, he stopped short at seeing Kirishima standing there waiting for him. For one scary second, he was worried the other teen would just turn around and walk back upstairs, but instead he just let out a huff and walked past Kirishima like he didn't exist. He didn't mind, simply jogging along behind Bakugou like usual, letting the cool air calm his harried thoughts. It could've been his imagination, but he could swear Bakugou ran harder and faster than usual that morning. The smirk the blonde shot him when they arrived back at the dorms red faced and sweaty pretty much confirmed his earlier suspicions. The look of surprise that flashed across Bakugous face when he opened the fridge and saw a prepared lunch waiting for him, more than made up for it. He just grinned as Bakugou turned to glare at him, before racing up the stairs, not wanting to be in range in case he started letting off explosions.
The following day Kirishima found and purchased some of Bakugou's favourite chilli chocolate. He was going to knock on Bakugou's door that evening and give the box to him but as he stood before it, hand raised, he found that he just couldn't. Bakugou obviously wanted some space and though Kirishima was trying to show the other teen how much he cared for him through his actions he didn't want to intrude in his personal space. Not until he was sure of his welcome. So instead, he just left the chocolates on Bakugou's desk the next morning before class. He got no thank you (not that he had wanted one) but Bakugou had shoved the box into his bag, so he took that as a win. Even more so when Sero wolf whistled across the room and a soft blush lit Bakugou's cheeks.
They continued to run together every morning; they didn't speak but just being around Bakugou was soothing. The physical exertion burning off some of his nervous energy.
At movie night that Friday night, he made sure that Bakugou's favourite movie was picked. Drowning out Jirou and Denki's complaints and ignoring Mina's cooing, he'd argued his case for the movie until everyone had agreed with him that it was the perfect choice. And when Kirishima sat beside Bakugou on a couch that night the other teen didn't move away. The red head moved cautiously until he was leaning softly against Bakugou's side. God, he had missed this so much. Just being able to be close to Bakugou again had his heart thrumming in his chest.
He didn't make a move, try to hold his hand or wrap an arm around his shoulders like he desperately wanted to. Showing Bakugou he was sorry and, well, wooing the other teen would take time and he would be as patient as he needed to be.
Over the weekend he started upping his game. He went out and bought Bakugou the latest All Might hoodie that he knew the other teen really wanted. He also organised a training session at Ground Beta for Bakugou and whoever he chose to train with for the next day. Kirishima knew his best friend would love that, it was hard to get training time at Ground Beta outside of class and it had taken all of Kirishima's skill and being blatantly honesty with Aizawa for him to allow it. When the red head arrived back from the mall, Mina took off for the stairs to drop her own purchases in her room, Kirishima made his way toward Bakugou who was sitting on the couch watching Sero and Denki argue about something.
He cleared his throat awkwardly until Bakugou and unfortunately nearly everyone in the room was looking at him.
"I got you something" Kirishima began awkwardly before basically shoving the bag at Bakugou. He knew he could've waited and done this in private, spared himself the humiliation if Bakugou threw the gift back in his face but he knew he needed to make a gesture. Show Bakugou that he would take the humiliation if that's what the other teen wanted to do to him. As well as show that he was sincere in his apologies and wanted everyone to know it.
Bakugou took the bag and stared at Kirishima for a long moment, as though trying to decide if he should give him this chance. Eventually he opened the bag and Kirishima let out a breath he hadn't realised he'd been holding.
The red and blue jumper was thick and soft and looked oh so comfortable. Bakugou looked up to find Kirishima staring anxiously at him, as though waiting for him to pass judgement. It hurt his heart to see his best friend so unsure.
"Thanks" he mumbled and Kirishima practically beamed at him.
"I also got you access to Ground Beta tomorrow for some training, you're allowed to take one person with you."
Bakugou's eyes widened in surprise, it was next to impossible to get extra time at Ground Beta, he wondered what Kirishima had done to get him this. It was so thoughtful, all the things that Kirishima had done for him this week had been incredibly sweet and thoughtful. They'd shown him how truly sorry the red head was as well as how well he knew him. It did little to help his crush though, instead making it exponentially worse. His heart ached and he knew that even though he'd forgiven Kirishima it was mostly hurt that was keeping him from acknowledging it to the other.
He stared up into red eyes, a similar colour to his own and said loudly, "Deku, you free tomorrow?"
There was a stuttering unsure voice from over near the table, "ah, y-yeah, sure."
A flurry of emotions washed over Kirishima's face, before he finally just smiled softly. Plonking down on the couch beside Bakugou and watching the boring movie that was currently playing. Whispers broke out around them, and he had to fight to hold in a scoff at what a bunch of gossips his classmates were.
Bakugou ran his fingers over the writing on the front before pulling the jumper on over his head, it was as soft as it looked. It was slightly too big, just how he liked it, the sleeves falling over his hands and giving him something to grip. He pulled the hood up, hiding his face and the whispers around him effectively. Even if nothing else, Bakugou knew he was lucky to have a friend like Kirishima.
Bakugou walked back to his room, sweat, blood and grime covering his body and a large grin on his face. He was on his way back after his fight at Ground Beta with Deku, it had been fucking awesome. They both could really let themselves go; it had been just what he'd needed to shake off the last of the funk that he'd been in for the past week.
Bypassing his door, he instead went to Kirishima's knocking loudly before entering. The other was laying on his bed watching something on his laptop. He jumped to his feet when he saw Bakugou at his door though.
"Bakugou!" Kirishima said in surprise, taking in the dishevelled appearance of his best friend. "You look like you had fun."
"Damn right I did. You can stop all this now" Bakugou said with a wave of his hand. "I forgive you."
Kirishima gasped and lurched forward, dragging Bakugou into his arms, not seeming to notice or mind the filth that covered him. Kirishima pulled back a little to look into his face. "You do?"
"Yeah" Bakugou said, trying not to laugh at his best friend's exuberance. "I get you were just trying to be funny, it's my own fault for getting so upset."
Kirishima pulled back further at that, a small frown pulling down his mouth.
"No. You had every right to be upset."
"Yeah, maybe. You shouldn't have done that, but it wasn't as big a deal as I made it out to be."
"It was a big deal. Don't downplay your feelings, Bakugou" Kirishima said sternly. He knew how hard anything feelings related was for Bakugou. "Why did it upset you so much?"
Bakugou shrugged, trying to move out of Kirishima's arms but the red head wouldn't budge.
"Why does it matter anyway, it's over with, I forgive you. Let's just move on" Bakugou said defensively this time trying to push Kirishima away.
"Is it because you… like me?" Kirishima asked quietly, hardening just in case he got blasted in the face.
Bakugou froze, eyes going wide as he registered what Kirishima had said. Heart pounding, he seriously considered letting off an explosion in Kirishima's face so he could make an escape. Sure, the other teen had hardened but if he could do one big enough it would at least give him the chance to get away. As though reading his thoughts Kirishima brought a hand up to softly cup his face, surprisingly gentle fingers ran through his hair before lightly gripping his neck.
Bakugou found his face being tilted until he was looking up into Kirishima's eyes, red meeting red.
"I only said yes to that dare because I so desperately wanted to ask you out, but I thought you'd say no. It gave me the perfect opportunity to ask you and then blame it on the dare when you declined. I never, for a moment imagined that you'd say yes." Kirishima confessed quietly, leaning in until their foreheads were pressed together and Bakugou could feel Kirishima's breath brushing his lips.
His brain struggled to process just what Kirishima was saying. It seemed unbelievable.
"You actually wanted to ask me out?" Bakugou said sceptically.
"Yes!" Kirishima said earnestly, not liking the doubtful way Bakugou was eyeing him one bit.
Bakugou pulled away again and this time Kirishima let him.
"Look" Bakugou said, his voice weary. He was just so fucking tired. "You don't have to pretend that you wanted to ask me out or, or that you like me or something to try to make me feel better. It's fine. My feelings are my own, I can deal with them. Just being your friend is enough for me." And Bakugou was surprised to find that he meant it. He would rather have Kirishima in his life as a friend then not have him in his life at all.
"Well, what if just being your friend isn't enough for me?" Kirishima asked and Bakugou whipped his head around at the near growl that laced his best friends' words. A shiver ran through his body.
Kirishima knew he was going to have to spell this out plain and simple so that Bakugou would believe him, so he would have no doubts. He unhardened so as not to accidentally hurt Bakugou, hoping the time for explosions had passed.
"Just being your friend isn't enough for me anymore. I want it all, I want everything" Kirishima said fiercely as he crowded a bewildered Bakugou up against his door. "I want to go to sleep with you wrapped in my arms and wake up every morning kissing you. I want to lay in the sun on the roof top and hear about everything you hate in the world, and everything you love. I want to be one of those things that you love" his voice had grown soft, and a hand reached up to trace Bakugous plump bottom lip. "Because I love you."
Ever so slowly Kirishima leant down and pressed his lips to Bakugou's, before leaning back to gauge the others reaction.
Bakugou shook his head slightly. "You love me?" he asked nonplussed.
"Yes" Kirishima said sincerely. "So much. I'm sorry I was such an idiot before."
"It's OK" Bakugou said, tentatively reaching up to put his hand on Kirishima's shoulder. He looked so unsure that Kirishima's heart nearly broke. He gave the blonde a warm smile reaching up to grab the smaller hand and bringing it to his mouth, kissing each knuckle softly.
Bakugou blushed hotly at that but looked pleased none the less.
"So, I was thinking," Kirishima began, leaning in closer to Bakugou. "I'd love to take you out on a date some time, what do you say?"
"Fucking fine, whatever."
