Author's Note:

Here it is, the return after a month break. Sorry again about that but I had to travel for work and the internet wasn't great. Luckily I write on microsoft word so didn't need the web to keep writing but uploading wasn't possible. On the plus side I was able to get some chapters pre-written so we should be able to continue on a stable ride for a little while. Before I begin, I want to clarify something a guest reviewed. They claimed Absol didn't like Ash for running off, but he made it clear it's because he likes to be seen as a hero. Which is his belief based on other aura users he's met. Which brings us to this chapter, the start of the Lilycove arc. This is gonna be a fun one. We get a showcase, contest, and romantic style chapter during this mini-arc with it also being the breather before something big. Enough of that, onto this chapter. It's another showcase and we also get a look in some characters who'll have a bigger focus during the Lilycove arc. We also get a look at an arc I've been excited to cover again but I knew we had to get this showcase out of the way first. In case it wasn't obvious, this was gonna be a Serena focused chapter. We also get an evolution; I wonder who it could be? You'll need to wait and see. Don't forget to vote in the poll, since Brock got his last Hoenn capture last chapter, I've gotta ask what your favourite of his Hoenn team is and with that, let's begin

Chapter Sixty-One: Lilycove Showcase: Counting Stars

Misty smiled as she stood up on Tentacruel's back. Staring ahead she noticed the large freight carrier with the large admin of Aqua stood on top of the side rails. His arms crossed with a wide smile on his face. Reaching the side-steps, she quickly pulled herself up and climbed on board with her water poison type following behind. It didn't take them long to reach the top and she stood in front Matt.

"Ahoy Serena, how yer be?" he asked, "yeh went dark after the weather institute. Had me worried, lass."

"Hehe, sorry," she mutter nervously, "I only just made it out and didn't want to risk getting caught. So, I took a wide berth to avoid civilisation and it had a knock-on effect with my timing."

"I figured it'll be something like that." He smiled, patting her back with a hearty laugh. "We're ya able to get-"

She reached into her pocket and pulled out the small memory stick. Holding it up cut him off as a wide smile overtook his face. She couldn't help but smile from his infectious joy. While she knows aqua aren't exactly good, she can certainly say Matt's heart is in the right place. He's kinda like Ash in that respect.

"Well, I be," he replied, "come on than me hearty, you can hand it to the big man yeah self."

"Really?" she blinked in surprise.

"Of course, you're the one who carried it all the way here," he replied, "don't worry, ye ole sea dog won't bite. He's a big softie like Mattie."

Inwardly frowning, she followed behind the large man. Glancing to the side, she saw scientists and grunts performing numerous tasks. Biting down on her inner cheek, she focused on the large man's back. It's easy enough for him to say the boss won't bite but having to sell her position once more won't go down easily. Memories of how distrusting Shelly was flashed in her mind. She'll be glad when this job is done and dusted.

Glancing past the big brother figure, she noticed another man stood at the front of the ship overlooking the vast ocean. He was dressed in a one-piece blue swimsuit. A blue bandana covered his head with the aqua symbol printed in white. Golden chain around his waist shimmered. She gulped because even if he wasn't as well built as Matt, he still had clearly defined muscles and it showed.

"Kappin, I got someone for ya to meet." Matt called out. The man turned around and she froze at his hardened stare framed by the narrowed brows which left a V-shape on his forehead. An icy cold chill seemed to radiate out of the bulging eyes and his nose wrinkled to add to his clear anger. "This is the lass I told yeh about, meet Serena. She was the second hand on the weather institute job."

"The one who disappeared?" he growled. Stepping forward, his shadow seemed to block out the sun as she stared up at him.

"Calm down, man," Matt instructed, placing a hand on his shoulder, "I know your upset over Shelly, but this is a good thing. Serena couldn't have taken on the G-Men forces by herself and she got something for yeah."

"I'm meant to believe you was able to get out under the eyes of dozens of officers while me dearest was arrested?" he asked, "why?"

"Shelly knew the risk and we figured she'd be the bigger target," she replied, "some trainers were visiting the lab, so I disguised myself as one of them. She slipped me the data stick as soon as it finished. It was a part of our extraction plan from the start."

"Heh, sounds like Shelly to me," Matt smiled. "Now Sere, don't yeh have something for A-Dawg?"

Flicking her brow down for a brief moment, she wasn't quite sure what to make of the nickname. Mentally shrugging it off, she reached into her pocket and pulled out the data stick. He leaned in close to examine it before pinching it out of her hand. Stepping back, she almost stumbled over her jellyfish Pokémon.

"What did I tell ya?" Matt asked, "and come next week, the huntress will deliver the prince of the sea. Soon everything we need to control yeh oceans wrath will be under Aqua's flag and we'll show 'em land lubbers what happens when ya hurt mother nature with pollution and chemicals."

"Huntress? Prince of the sea?" she asked.

"It doesn't concern you, me lass." Archie turned on a heel. Walking out across the ship towards what seemed to be the scientist hub.

"Sorry about the ole sea dog, Serena." Matt apologised. "He's been grumpy ever since Shelly got arrested. Them long nights be lonely on the cold blue."

"Erm," she uttered, averting her gaze from the large man.

"Course you don't wanna hear about that," he laughed, "tell you what Serena. Take some leave, return to shore, and recuperate after this success. We'll need all hands-on deck for the operation tidal wave, and you've earnt it."

"Operation tidal wave?" she asked.

"Tell you about it when you return," he smiled, "now relax. Enjoy yourself. Oh, and before I forget, take this as a little extra thanks."

"Erm, thank you," she mumbled, accepting the water stone which he held out.

Realising he wasn't about to have a change of heart; she made her way back to the way she entered the freighter ship. Climbing down the sidestep-rails, her water poison type jumped down and landed in the water before her. Once close enough, she wrapped two tentacles around her waist and steadily lifted her onto her back. Turning back around, they set off across the water and way from the aqua members.

With a deep breath, she watched the freighter ship until it faded from sight. Turning around, she took a deep breath, letting the salty ocean air run through her nose in a soothing manner. "Okay girl, hold on for a moment."

Tentacruel came to a stead stop but remained still in her direction. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out the rather simplistic communication device and dialled the only number stored. Holding it up to her ear, it didn't take long before someone answered.

"Yes," he greeted.

"Lance?" she asked.

"Misty, can you speak?" he asked.

"I can," she replied, "I've delivered the data stick. They think it's the one from the weather institute."

"Good," he replied, "the trojan ponyta we left on it will help us access their systems. Sooner or later, we'll know exactly what they are planning. You've done some good work on this operation. Thank you."

"It's nothing." She dismissed. "But they did mention some stuff before I left. The prince of the sea and operation tidal wave."

"Don't worry, like I said before we were tracking you and now, we've got eyes on their ship," he replied, "we also have scouts ready in case any ships break off from the main freighter. Before long we'll have the aqua members in custody."

"Are you going to move in then?" she asked.

"Not yet" he replied, "we don't know what sort of fire power they've got stored and in the open water, they'll see any assault coming. We'll keep watch and intercept when they return to land. Since we edited the files, whatever they are looking for won't appear."

"He also mentioned something about the huntress having a job," she added.

"Huntress?" he repeated, with a shift of tone, "are you sure?"

"Yeah," she replied, "something about them going after the prince of the sea."

"This isn't good, I'm gonna need to go," he replied.

"Well hang on, Lance," she replied, "Matt told me to take a break. What should I do now?"

"It sounds like a good opportunity for you to get out without raising suspicion," he replied, "I ask you stay in Hoenn until I can debrief you, but I would say your role undercover is over now. Thank you for your service."

The line went dead, and she sighed. Putting the device into her pocket, she signalled for Tentacruel to continue back to shore. Closing her eyes, letting the ocean breeze wash over her, she ran her thoughts back over her time in Hoenn... then the journey with her friends in Johto and-

Her eyes burst open in realisation, "Hunter J!"

Serena smiled as she found herself stood outside the Lilycove Pokémon centre. Her hand tightly squeezed by Ash's as the others stood around her. Glancing to the side, she found May texting away with a wide smile on her face. Leading the way inside, they quickly made their way over to the desk where Nurse Joy stood with a smile on her face, "welcome to our Pokémon centre. How can I help you today?"

"We'd like to book three rooms and I'd like to register for the upcoming showcase," she explained. "Two singles, and one double."

"Very good," she replied, "if I could just take pass and I'll do that for you.

Taking out her card, she handed it over and the pink-haired nurse took it. Moving around the counter to one of the computers, she typed away before slotting it inside the machine. It took a couple minutes but after receiving it back, she moved across to the wall of keys. Picking up a clipboard, she wrote down on it before picking out three keys, she returned to the front desk and placed both the card and keys down on the counter.

"Here you go," she smiled, "the double room is forty-two and the showcase starts ten o'clock sharp the day after tomorrow."

"Thank you," she smiled, taking the items off the table.

"And as for your showcase, I can reveal the theme performance round will be a fashion show." She continued. "You'll be given a stylist studio and fifthteen minutes to create an outfit for yourself and your Pokémon. With the main theme being whichever region's style your given in the moment."

With a smile, she bowed a thanks to the nurse. Moving to the side for the next trainer to speak with her, she handed the double room key to Brock and handed one of the others to May. With a quick word goodbye, they each set off through the centre. Being a major hub of the region, this turned out to be one of the large centres in the region. After reaching their room and setting some stuff down, they made their way back to the video-phone suite.

Taking up one of the devices, they dialled the number for the lab. It didn't take too long before the Professor appeared on the other end with a pleasant smile, "ah Ash, Serena. How can I help you today?"

"Hey Professor." She smiled. Each of them reached into the backpacks and pulled out the portable incubators, presenting the two eggs to the screen. "We thought we should show you these."

"I take it those two eggs are from Sylveon?" he asked.

"Right Professor." Ash interjected.

"We were hoping you'd agree to house them, along with Sylveon and Pikachu again," she explained, "Sylveon explained that while she wants them to hatch with us. Carrying them all over the place isn't exactly a stable situation and being set at the lab would be better."

"Of course, we've got more than enough room here for the four of them." He smiled. "Can I ask who you'll be wanting in return so I could prepare them?"

"Milotic for me," she replied.

"And Venusaur for me," Ash added.

"Very good, I'll just go and prepare them." He stood up and disappeared from the screen, so she turned to face her boyfriend.

"Venusaur?" she asked.

"I told May I'd bring him over so her Bulbasaur could meet him," he shrugged, turning to the electric type, "and I guess this'll be goodbye for now buddy."

"You know, I was kinda hoping we'd run into team aqua while I was back," his mental voice echoed, matching his presumed physical voice.

"Why would you hope for that?" Ash asked.

"I started watching this new show when at the lab, all about pirates... it's called One Piece," he explained, "so I had a ton of new jokes to try out."

With a light chuckle, her boyfriend shook his head. It didn't take long before the Professor returned with Daisy by his side. Sending the eggs over first, they quickly switched their respective Pokémon around. As soon as his device appeared on the other side, Pikachu let himself out, shaking his entire body. Happy that everyone was safe, they bid them goodbye and ended their video call.

"So... they're gone again." Ash sighed.

Offering him a sympathetic smile, she wrapped her arms around him and entered a soft hug. Staring into his chocolate brown eyes, she gave him a soft, long kiss. The familiar electric-sensation sizzled through her as he happily pushed back. After some time, she pulled back and rested her forehead against his.

"It's not forever," she replied, "and it's for the eggs safety. Besides, didn't you tell Pikachu he'd be in the final gym battle?"

"Yeah," he smiled. Pecking her lips once more, they moved to part, but she engulfed his hand with her two. Cuddling up to his arm, she rested her head on his shoulder as they made their way out of the video-phone suite and through the centre once more.

Making it back to the lobby, they found Brock sat alone at one of the tables next to the window. Moving closer, they noticed him with Sableye, Chimecho and Electrike out. It seemed like the darkness Pokémon was performing some sort of humour to entertain the unevolved Pokémon while Brock and Chimecho worked on changing over his bandages. While she couldn't imagine changing bandages being painful, she knew it would very well be filled with discomfort.

Glancing around the lobby for the two siblings, she noticed Max sat at another table with the boy from outside Mauville and Petalburg. He had his three Pokémon out and the other boy, Walley, had out his Ralts, Swablu and a third Pokémon she couldn't quite reconsign. They had a yellow face with small, slit-like eyes. With the appearance of wearing a green bib and triangular, stubby yellow feet. When the two vines on top of the head opened, she noticed a big spot on each side of the inner part, one being blue and the other red. She pulled out her Pokédex to scan the new addition:

Budew, The Bud Pokémon. The baby Pokémon for Roserade. This Pokémon is highly sensitive to temperature changes. When its bud starts to open, that means spring is right around the corner. They're very adept at raising gardens of all sorts

"I guess they're both busy," he mumbled in her ear. Giggling at the tickling sensation, she tightened her grip around his arm.

"And May's off to find Drew," she explained.

"When she tell you that?" he asked.

"You saw the look on her face when texting, and whose the only one she texts?" she asked, "besides... it's a girl thing. I might even react that way if we were traveling on separate journey's, only meeting up every few weeks or longer."

"I don't think it's a girl thing," he whispered, tightening his hug around her, "I'd miss you just as much in that situation."

"Hehehe," she giggled, returning the embrace. Giving just a single peck of her lips, "I more so meant the being able to read it. Now come on."

"Where are we going?" he asked, as she pulled him along.

Turning to the side, she gave a wink instead of answering his question. Pulling him out of the centre she made her way around the back towards the series of battlefields. Some of them were in use, hosting random trainer's with battles but most were empty. Making her way over to the far side, she had Ash sit down before stealing one more kiss. Leaning into whisper, "I'm just going to inform the guys about the showcase but then we can explore the city, 'kay."

Taking another kiss, he mindlessly nodded with a blank look within his eyes. Inwardly smirking, she stood up and turned back. One by one, her team of, Beedrill, Cacnea, Milotic, Meditite, Kirlia, Bagon and Absol appeared in a row.

"Alright everyone, we've made it to Lilycove and the showcase coming up. So Meditite, Kirlia and Cacnea, I want you three to work on your performance-" She stopped when she noticed the newest member of her team turn to the ocean, stepping away slightly. "You alright, Absol?"

"Sol, Absol."

"He said that something is happening. His sixth sense is tingling but it's too hazy to see clearly." Ash translated.

"Ab-sol."

Taking off from his position, he nimbly lept up on the nearby objects before ending up on the centre's roof. Closing his eyes, he stood still in an offensive stance with the wind blowing through his fur. Sinking her teeth into her lip, she knew he was meditating to get a better view of his sense.

"Right," she muttered, turning back to the others, "hopefully Absol can figure it out but until then, Bagon and Milotic. The next themed performance is a sort of fashion show, but we need to integrate it with the region we're assigned on the day. I thought either of you two might like to take part."

"Do we get to battle in these outfits?" Bagon asked through their mental connection.

"No," she replied.

"Cool." She turned to the side. "Then long and slender can do it. She's more into that girly stuff anyway."

"You alright with that, Milotic?" she asked, receiving a nod from the water type.

"Then that means I get to battle buzzy boy, right?" Bagon asked turning to Beedrill, whose eye twitched in anger.

"Do you mind helping her with her agility, Beedrill?" she asked, giving her first caught a hug. Giggling as his cheeks turned red, he might act like the big bad battling beast, but she knew his softer side, "and once the showcase is over, we can really get working on your mega."

With a reluctance agreement, he moved over to the pure dragon type. She smiled as she glanced around all seven of them. Part of her was concerned about what Absol was sensing but he said before that it becomes clearer the closer, they get to the event. Something about the differing variables passing and setting in stone. While concerned about what or when this event will pass, she put it to the back of her mind. Nothing she can do until Absol gets his vision.

"Now we're gonna be gone for an hour or two so stay here and get your training in," she continued. "If something goes wrong, Beedrill's in charge."

Seeing them all agree, she turned to Ash and started to make their way out down the street. Interlocking their hands, she felt him give her a reassuring squeeze as she cuddled up to his arm. He didn't need to say anything more, just the small gesture was enough. They continued down the path in a comfortable silence for a little while when something caught her eye.

Leaning over the rail to see over the ocean was May and Drew. While she didn't want to interrupt either of their moments, she noticed a small pink Pokémon which seemed to be swimming in the ocean beneath them, semi-submerged. Curiosity got the better of her and she pulled out her Pokédex:

Luvdisc, The Rendezvous Pokémon. There was an era when it was overfished due to the rumour that having one of its heart-shaped scales would enable you to find a sweetheart. Either loving couples are in the vicinity then Luvdisc sense it and swim with the humans

"I guess that's Drew newest Pokémon," Ash muttered.

"Uh huh," she replied, struggling to tear her eyes away.

While the Pokémon seems very sweet, and she couldn't deny she'd love to go swimming with Ash and end up surrounded by them. There was a small part of her which found it troubling. Obviously Luvdisc would stay near if it's Drew's Pokémon but if May read that entry, then she could be fooled into thinking otherwise. Maybe she's being too hard on Drew and it's just her mind playing tricks on her but-

"Heeeey!"

"Huh?" She turned around as a blue blur covered her vision. Stood in front of her was Lisia of all people with a Pikachu sat on her shoulder. Casting a glance behind her, she found Shauna stood with an Illumise fluttering by her side. "What're you two doing here?"

"I'm trying to get ready for the showcase," Shauna replied, "but then I ended up running into Lisia here."

"I guess that means you're competing too." She smirked, locking eyes with her friendly rival. Who narrowed her own eyes with her own smirk? Feeling the energy bubble through her veins, she glanced to the side to Lisia. "And you?"

"Afraid not," she shrugged, "I already got my three princess keys. No need for me to compete here as well. I'm here for the Showcase formal ball!"

"Showcase formal ball?" she asked.

"It's a special event held before the master class for all performers to interact and have fun," she explained, "it's being hosted by Monsieur Pierre later this week along with a special guest whose meant to judge tomorrow's showcase!"

"That sounds great!" Her eyes widened as visions of the possible event passed through her head. A massive golden hall, with a big chandelier hanging from the ceiling, all of them beneath slow-dancing with partners whilst dressed in big, fancy outfits. "Where do we get inside?"

"You just need to registrar for yourself and your date at the centre." Lisia smiled. "But that's where my issue comes in."

"A date?" she asked.

"Exactly!" Her eyes widened. "I've been so busy that I never got around to dating or anything."

"What about, Shauna?" She turned to her brunette friend.

"Trevor's going with me." She shrugged. "Tierno's off re-challenging Winona and won't make it in time so seemed like the easy fix. I guess you've already got your catch."

Turning to the side, she noticed Ash having given them some distance and he had Duskull, Torkoal and Metang out. The four sat on the grass, playing what seemed to be a game of go-Goldeen with the cards scattered between them. She smiled at the silliness of the scenario, but she guessed he gave them distance to get caught up.

"I'm tots jealous you've both got strapping young men on the ready for the ball." Lisia sighed. "But what's a girl too do."

"You'll find someone to go with," she encouraged, "and you've got... how long away is the ball?"

"Five days," Shauna replied.

"Oh, it's on my birthday!" Her eyes widened.

"Your birthday?" Lisia asked, "ohmygosh that's amazing! Afterwards we should tots go out to celebrate, just the girls."

"Don't you still need to find yourself a date?" she asked, crossing her arms.

"She can go man hunting during the showcase tomorrow," Shauna smiled with a joking tone.

"Well, I best go and get signed up for the ball," she replied, "see you guys later."

Bidding the two female rivals goodbye, she watched them walk off and she turned to her boyfriend. Getting him to put the card game away and recall his team, they set back off towards the centre. While he wanted to know what put the kick back into her step, she refused to spoil the surprise.

Serena stood outside the showcase hall on the day of the event. Lines of people lined up outside with a separate que for performers around the back. She turned around to her friends and bid them all goodbye, with them wishing her luck.

She watched them join the back of one of the lines, and with a smile spread over her lips, she turned and made her way around the side of the building. Joining the cue, it wasn't nearly as long as the ones for the spectators, but it was certainly the longest one she's had for a showcase so far. Making it inside of the largest performance hall in Hoenn. Swarms of performers and stage workers scattered around, she struggled to make it over to one of the changing rooms. Her eyes opened as she noticed a familiar looking girl across the room. She struggled to make her way over.

"Hey Shauna!"

The brunette turned around and a smile overtook her face. Jumping up from her seat, they shared a quick hug as she noticed the same blue bug Pokémon sat on the desk in front of her. "How you feeling?"

"I'm great and feel ready for the themed performance," she replied, ending the embrace. "How about you?"

"We're raring to go," she smiled, "and we've got the Kalos region so we're gonna do great. Which region did you get?"

"Johto." She smiled. "I think they've tried to tailor it to a region we've already been too."

"Wouldn't surprise me," she replied, "it would give everyone a starting place."

A stagehand came in and called out a list of five names, which included Shauna. Seeing her friend follow the first collection of girls head out, she took a seat and turned to look up at the television planted on the wall. It showed an aerial camera view of the inner stadium, spiralling around to show the large crowd as an over-voice spoke, "now it's time for the main event, live from Lilycove city is the master of ceremonies in the showcase world, Monsieur Pierre and his partner Klefki!"

The master of ceremonies host appeared in his usual blue suit with his partner Pokémon floating around him. Spinning the staff around, the Pokémon seemed to land on the long end as he lowered it back down, using it as some sort of support in his stance.

"Bonjour, ladies and gentlemen and welcome to the lovely city of Lilycove." He announced, "nous avons a special show for you all today as we see these lovely performers compete to win this!"

He held his hand up and took the largest key off his partner Pokémon. It heavily resembled the other keys but with a purple gem around the handle

"A prestige Lilycove Princess Key!" He announced, "each performer has to earn three of these keys from showcases around the region. Une fois qu'ils font, they'll have a chance to compete in the master class and become Hoenn's first showcase queen! As many know, a paper-queen was selected to represent that role during the first Hoenn circuit of showcases and she is none other than our special judge in today's competition. A well-established member of the elite four, I present to you Phoebe Fuyou!"

She smiled as the crowds applauses echoed through the entire stadium. The ghost type specialist walked out on stage with her Froslass floating beside her, she wore a dark blue dress like her previous outfit, decorated by white flowers but it covered her midriff and while it certainly flattered her figure, she couldn't stop but notice it wasn't as revealing. Being more of a formal outfit, she wondered if it was also inspired by her Alolan heritage.

"It's a pleasure to be here, Monsieur Pierre, thank you for having me." She stopped centre stage and bowed towards the man before turning towards the audience, beaming as the camera rotated around her. The applause clearly soaking in as she took a deep breath.

"Maintenant sur le spectacle!" he continued, "our competition est split into deux rounds! La première round is to prove an important quality that all showcase queens should possess. Would our special guest do the honours and explain how this shall work today?"

"Certain." She smiled. "Today's themed performance shall be a cultural fashion show. Each performer has been given a region to base their outfits around and shall be given fifthteen minutes to put together outfits for both themselves and their chosen Pokémon partners. The point of this competition is too not only show the beauty from all corners of our world but to bring the differing nations together as any good queen should."

The crowd erupted once more, and she paused. The ice ghost type seemed to vibrate slightly, emitting some chilling air if she were to guess.

"Unfortunately, due to the sheer number of competitors today, we do have a limit on how many freestyle performances we can show," she explained, "but every single performer will have a fair chance. When they showcase their outfits, I'll decide then and there if they pass or not. Once we've seen everyone, I'll revise the decision for the true finalists moving on. We won't reveal the number of places available as to not dissuade our competitors today."

"Qui nous transporte sur the second round." Monsiuer Pierre continued. "Where are finalists shall be given free rein to give us all a lovely performance with up to three of their Pokémon. Après quoi we pass over the power to our live audience and lovely viewers from home. You'll be able to vote upon the winner!"

Hearing the applause erupt once more through the walls of the stadium, she took a deep breath. With the ghost type specialist moving off stage. Part of her wanted to check on her team but given the lack of space due to all the other performances, adding in a giant water serpent wouldn't help anyone. Normally, she'd distract herself by preparing her outfit or something but given that's the point of this themed performance, all she could do was wait.

Turns out the original five performers were preparing their outfits during the opening to the stage. She watched as Shauna walked out first in a darkish burgundy vest over a black dress which spread out around the mid-upper leg. Two rows of golden buttons down either side of her torso. With a squared-double tie around her neck. Black high heel shoes covered her feet as she walked out.

Illumise flew out behind her with a big hat covering her head. It was black and had one side pinned up to the side with a red feather sticking out. Swirling around her, she moved the hat onto the brunette's head, finally revealing the bug types outfit.

She had more of a masculine outfit with a black, three-piece tuxedo and bow tie. She smiled as her friend reached the end of the meowth-walk and turned back. The second girl moving in the opposite direction had the Galar region and was dressed in a ripped black jacket and jeans, with two ponyta-tails with her hair. Her Pokémon was a Zigzagoon, running across the meowth-walk in all manners with fabric threads of black and white. She smiled at the overzealousness.

Her eyes widened at the sight of the third performer, she seemed to be older, maybe early twenties and she had the Alola region with lime green hair and pink framed sunglasses resting in them while she was dressed in a bikini which didn't leave much to the imagination. She at least had a towel wrapped around her waist for some modesty while her Pokémon, a Gardevoir, carried a beach ball and had matching sunglasses.

"Oh my, it seems our special judge wishes to make a vocal judgement in the proceedings," Monsiuer Pierre announced. With the elite four member walked out from the off shoot. The music in the background faded and all the lights returned to normal.

"I want to make something clear for everyone involved in today's proceedings, whether in the audience or awaiting the chance to showcase their own fashion sense," she announced, stopping right in front of the barely clothed women. "This is an insult to Alola's culture and won't be tolerated. This isn't about infatuating the opposite gender into winning a princess key! It's about showcasing the differing beauties in the world, and I consider this a complete attack on the region where I was born. I won't tolerate it from any of the performers and Shulin, in case I wasn't clear, your disqualified from today's proceedings. Please leave the stage so we can continue this event with some dignity."

Swallowing hard at the silence as her Gardevoir teleported both off the stage, she couldn't image the embarrassment from such a thing. Her own disqualification from her last showcase ran through her head and even if that was done in private, it still stung.

It took a couple minutes, but the show started back up. With more girls being called out in groups of five or so. She couldn't be sure how much time passed before she was called out but the next thing, she knew... she was inside one of the fashion rooms with different fabrics, accessories, and outfits to her hearts content. From what she gathered; each region had its own suite to give them full exploration. They even had magazines showcasing Johto fashion.

Smiling as she felt in her element, she took out her Pokéball. Letting her sea-serpent join her for the task at hand.

Ash clasped his hands together and had his fingers fidget with each other. While he'd notice each performer as they entered meowth-walk, upon seeing they weren't his girlfriend, he zoned back out. This wasn't his thing, not by a long shot and part of him felt like he'd be better off training.

While the interruption from before was certainly... attention grabbing, for a number of reasons, he couldn't bring himself to be interested in a fashion show. He knew his girlfriend well and she's got an amazing sense of style. If anything, this is the perfect themed performance for her, and he is looking forward to see what she puts together and not only because then he can zone out until the freestyle show.

"You're not normally this nervous," Brock's voice echoed in his ear.

"Huh?" he blinked, turning to the side. He noticed Max sat with Walley on the other side of the eldest of their little group. "I'm not nervous."

"What is it then?"

"Boredom," he sighed, slouching in his seat, "I just wanna see Serena's then-"

"Then you've hit your quota?" he asked.

"N-no," he muttered, falling further into his seat.

"It's nothing to feel bad about," he replied, "you complement each other but that doesn't mean you share everything in common. There's things you like which she doesn't and vice versa."

"You don't think she'll be mad because I'm not super invested?" he asked.

"I think you've done way stupider stuff for her to get upset over in the past." He smiled. "Just the fact you've sat through the entire thing, even when not super interested just because she's involved will mean something."

"How do you know?" he asked.

"Do you care when she watches your league matches?" he asked.

"Of course," he replied, flicking an eyebrow up.

"Well, she isn't exactly a big-league supporter. She's only been interested in your battles whereas you'd watch any and all leagues given the chance," he explained, "neither of you have done something wrong for not have perfect in sync opinions on everything."

Letting his words sink in, he smiled and pushed himself back up. Now that he thinks about it, before becoming trainers, she only ever watched one league with him and thinking back... she kept trying to converse with him instead of watching. He'll always support Serena in her endeavours and-

His eyes burst open at the sight of Milotic slivering out onto the stage. Swaying side to side, as if swimming without water. Behind her walked out Serena, although she was barely recognisable. Her hair was covered by the model of a black, traditional head piece used by the Kimono sisters and her face was completely white from her makeup, but her eyelashes seemed to stand out. She was dressed in a dark-ish purple kimono with her sleeves crossed over her torso, with a seeming bubble design over the traditional clothing.

A slower walk behind the pure water type. Looking closer, he noticed the same white makeup covering Milotic's face and two Pokéball-hairpins in the pinkish-hair stands. With them stopping to the front of the stage and the tender Pokémon seemed to sliver around her.

Water spewed out of the sea-serpent and covered them both from view. As the cyclone faded, Serena stood in a brand-new outfit.

She had a more modern green t-shirt with some sort of yellow symbol, but it was covered by the bright red denim dungarees, which had only one strap. These stopped mid-thigh, acting as some sort of shorts with her long legs on display. Her face had the white makeup removed and bright red lips with pink and black stripes echoing out from her eyes, which seemed to have a glitter effect. She struck a pose with a peace sign sideways by her eye, the other hand on her hip and the closest eye closed.

Despite hearing the applause for her, he couldn't bring himself to do anything. They turned and made their way back down the meowth-walk with the next girl showcasing her own outfit. Seeing her exit off the stage, he slouched back into his seat with a smile on his face. Checking the time on Pokegear, he realised there won't be much time left until the themed performance is over.

Jumping out of his seat, he made his way out of the stadium and down to the lobby. Upon entering the large entrance, he realised how much bigger it seemed when not filled by the hundreds of spectators. He noticed the honey-blonde girl walking out of the performer entrance and he walked over.

Embracing her in a hug, she gladly returned the gesture. "You did great Serena."

"Thanks," she replied as they relaxed in place, not releasing the grip on each other, "and thanks for watching. I know fashion isn't your thing."

"I erm-"

"Hehehe, you fell asleep every time I tried telling you about the plan for this." She giggled, looping her arms around his neck. Pushing herself up, she lightly pecked his lips. "It's fine though. Just the idea you'd sit through an entire fashion show to see me."

"I'd sit through anything to see you," he whispered, with them keep lightly pecking each other's lips.

"Which reminds me," she whispered, "I think I know what we'll be doing for our Lilycove date."

"You do?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow up. "I thought it was my turn to plan something."

"You can get the next one," she replied, "Lisia and Shauna told me about a special showcase ball for all performers to attend. And it's on my birthday."

"But if it's for performers only then-"

"Hehehe, don't be silly. It's for performers but they also require every performer brings a date," she explained, "and it's on my birthday sooo-"

"I'd love to go with you." He smiled.

They shared a couple more kisses before the television screen in the lobby drew their attention. The end of the themed performance drew their attention and with reluctance they bid each other goodbye. By the time he made it back to his seat, he found both Phoebe and the monsieur on the stage.

"Je vous présente madame Phoebe," he announced with a spot-light landing on the ghost type specialist.

"Thank you all for your patients. When judging which six performers shall move on, I limited it to one per regional representative to prevent any sort of bias based on a suspected region. From our Sinnoh selection we have Elma Braid. Kanto gives us Kayleigh Kaori. Johto has Serena Yvonne. Galar has Alouette Armelle. Hoenn gives us Lily Rose and finally Kalos has Shauna Sana!" Phoebe declared with a spotlight illuminating each girl on the stage behind her.

"We shall take un court entracte to give our lovely performers a chance to prep for the freestyle performance," Monsieur Pierre explained, "so stay tuned!"

All the lights on the stage went off and Ash relaxed back into his seat. Part of him missed having Pikachu present as his commentary could normally add even a little humour to the situation. As he waited for the next round to start, he couldn't help but notice that none-one made it through based on an Alolan-themed outfit. Maybe she was trying to avoid controversy because it's her home region or maybe she's that much stricter a judge given the interruption earlier.

"And now please welcome our first lovely perform today in the Lilycove Showcase!" Monsieur Pierre's voice announced, "s'il vous plaît mettez vos mains ensemble pour, Serena Yvonne."

Upon the announcement, one of his Pokéballs burst open to reveal his Kirlia. She stood on his legs to get a good view of the stage as the lights dimmed since they both knew who was on her team for this performance. As the music started, her little brother entered the stage, running and leaping with a spin.

'Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be.'

Kirlia landed centre stage and extended one of his feet outwards. Spinning in time with the song, after a full rotation he stepped down and entered a wide step to the side, using the rotated spins to help change his direction in one fluid motion.

'But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, we'll be counting stars. Yeah, we'll be counting stars.'

With the increased beat from the song, he entered a quicker paced spin. Sparks around his feet jumped off illuminating parts of the stage. Waves of psychedelic colours radiated out from the emotions Pokémon which contrasted the electricity nicely.

'I see this life like a swinging vine, Swing my heart across the line. In my face is flashing signs, Seek it out and ye shall find.'

The sparks transformed into fully formed bolts which were consumed by the psychic energy. Using exaggerated movements with his arms to direct and launch out the bolts of electricity. Quickly changing direction to send multiple in differing directions.

'Oh, but I'm not that old. Young, but I'm not that bold. I don't think the world is sold, I'm just doing what we're told.'

Skipping backwards with twirls, the bolts radiated upwards, confined by the psychic energy. Rotating around him just like in the counter-shield effect, it seemed like a reverse thunderstorm with the little brother in the eye, illuminated by the shock waves swirling off his feet

'I feel something so right, Doing the wrong thing. And I feel so wrong, Doing the right thing.'

Dropping onto his back, he continued to spin in time with the music. Electricity seemed to radiated from his entire body, as if building up. Expanding out in a round circle the shockwave erupted across the floor with two figures running on from either side, Serena and Cacnea.

'I couldn't lie, Couldn't lie, Couldn't lie. Everything that kills me, Makes me feel alive.'

With a leap over the shockwave, the two of them passby each other and entered a roll. In perfect sync they ended up on opposite sides of Kirlia as he lept back up, but Serena was down on one knee. Both Serena and Cacnea started clapping in time with the song as Kirlia lept forward.

'Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be.'

Performing a handstand, he went into a side roll and kicked himself up. Sticking within the self-made circle of his fellow performers, he landed on Serena's hand and seemed to push himself backwards. Doing backwards summersaults, he landed right behind Cacnea, he moved into centre stage.

'But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, We'll be counting stars.'

The small grass type seemed to take a more simplistic approach to his dance routine. Kicking his spike-legs back and forth like some sort of tap-dance, a cotton hat and sticks materialised, giving him a retro appearance. The joyous smiles on the other two sold the corniness of the bit as some laughs echoed.

'Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be.'

Jumping over to Serena's side, she took his place in the centre. Her arms crossed over her chest and as she landed, they flew down to the side. Throwing them up like a box, she tightened her fists and brought them back down. Raising one leg in sync, it crossed over with her other leg and she stamped it down.

'But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, We'll be, We'll be counting stars.'

Sliding her foot back across across the floor, she raised her arms up in a rigid movement parrel to her chest. Seeming to slide on the stage, she switched to the other foot. Entering a seemingly fluid motion as she moved in time with the beat.

'I feel your love, And I feel it burn. Down this river, Every turn! Hope is a four-letter word, Make that money, Watch it burn!'

Cacnea moved back over the stage, shooting several pin missiles over the back of the stage to add to the light show. Kirlia, however, lept forward and grabbed her hand, swinging upwards. To perform a summersault right in front of her with the same psychic-colours radiating around them.

'Oh, but I'm not that old. Young, but I'm not that bold. I don't think the world is sold, I'm just doing what we're told.'

Landing directly in front of her, she crouched down to help with the height difference. She extended one leg out and spun on the spot, causing the psychic fairy type to backflip over her. Running up her leg, he lept of her body like a ramp. As he spun through the air, his feet sizzled with electricity once more.

'I feel so wrong, Doing the right thing.'

The two of them ended up opposite each other with Cacnea rolling to the centre stage once more. While Kirlia crossed his arms and started kicking his legs like some sort of old folk dance, sending sparks of electricity over to the other two. Serena matched his dance but more ducked to avoid the oncoming bolts.

'I couldn't lie, Couldn't lie, Couldn't lie. Everything that drowns me, Makes me wanna fly.'

Cacnea stood in the middle and rolled his two arms around each other. Every so often flicking one of to the side whilst hopping from one spike-leg to the other. His more comical style being amplified by the electricity battle occurring around him.

'Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be.'

High above the stage as this comical three-way dance continued, he couldn't help but notice blue psychic waves radiating from the top of the stage. He knew it couldn't be either Serena or Kirlia since they'd be the source. The unanswered question became answered as Meditite floated down in her meditation state.

'But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, We'll be counting stars.'

Kirlia ran and lept into the air. Releasing a massive load of psychic energy to keep himself self-levitating directly above Cacnea. He spun around and started up another counter shield of electricity which seem to engulf all three Pokémon. Serena seemed to disappear behind the yellow and blue display.

Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be.'

A dazzling display continued, and he assumed Serena moved to help contain the massive amount of power over the actions. As the beat slowed, it seemed to implode into sparkles with Meditite's eyes opening. She floated back down and touched the ground around the other Pokémon in the group.

'But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, We'll be, We'll be counting stars.'

Serena came up to one side, clapping with the beat as Cacnea moved to the side. The two duel psychic types stood centre stage with Kirlia starting a pretty simplistic routine around the meditation Pokémon. With the crowd seeming to join in on the clapping rhythm from the song.

'Oh, Take that money, Watch it burn! Sink in the river, The lessons I've learnt.'

Grabbing her hand, Kirlia spun her around as if some sort of slow dance but to the faster tempo. Sliding to the side, he flung her to the side with their hands connected and she went spinning to the side. Running after her, he performed a leap and summersaulted over his dance partner.

'Take that money, Watch it burn! Sink in the river, The lessons I've learnt.'

Landing right in front of her, he grabbed her by the waist and lifted her up. Spinning on his heel he let her fall down his back and she performed a rolling handstand which helped carry her back across the stage. He followed performing a small leap spin, meeting her back in the small dance space.

'Take that money, Watch it burn! Sink in the river, The lessons I've learnt! Take that money, Watch it burn! Sink in the river, The lessons I've learnt. '

With the music slowing down and each word being dragged out, he lifted her up and seemed to toss her into the air. Some weak psychic waves slowed her down as pin missiles exploded like fireworks in the background. If he didn't know any better, he'd say it was some sort of scene from a movie.

'Everything that kills me, Makes me feel alive.'

She fell back down into Kirlia's arms, and they entered another dance routine similar to the one before. This time, however, Cacnea lept over to Serena and they matched the fast movements of the other dancing duo. Although it was clear Serena was leading for the second pair instead.

'Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be.'

She held onto his arm and spun him out to the side, clearly above the ground. Spinning around she extended him out to the other side. Crouching low, she exploded up, launching the pure grass type up and he spun in every direction. The spikes over his body glowing a bright white colour.

'But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, We'll be counting stars.'

A sea of poison stingers coloured the stage purple as the duel psychic pair took centre stage. Just like previously, they held one of each other's hands and spun around each other, like a fast-tempted-traditional-slow-dance. Waves of blue radiating out of them and ensuring none of the stingers hit them.

'Lately I've been, I've been losing sleep. Dreaming about the things that we could be.'

Spinning away from each other, Kirlia's feet started sparking once more. With a series of stylish kicks whilst twisting and performing differing dance moves, sparks of electricity travelled over to the psychic fighting type. Who seemed to be punching the sparks and knocking them away.

'But baby I've been, I've been praying hard. Said no more counting dollars, We'll be, We'll be counting stars.'

Her fists lit on fire as flames and lightening coloured the stage. From the background came Serena and Cacnea, who continued their duet dance now illuminated by the energy-elements. With the continued tosses into the air to match the high energy of the beat.

'Oh, Take that money, Watch it burn! Sink in the river, The lessons I've learnt! 'Take that money, Watch it burn! Sink in the river, The lessons I've learnt.'

Moving closer to the duelling fighting types, she caught the pure grass type. Having him stand on her shoulder, she spread her arms out, while the other two each struck a pose by her legs. The single spotlight from the stage illuminating the quadruple-dancing-team.

'Take that money, Watch it burn! Sink in the river, The lessons I've learnt.'

He felt his heart race as the thunderous applause erupted from the audience, standing up to catch sight of her as many of the other spectators did, he added his own show of support. Although this did cause Kirlia to fall onto the floor due to previously being on his lap. As the crew moved onto the stage to reset and removing anything left from her performance, the host's voice echoed to both congratulate Serena and introduce the next performer.

"So Kirlia, what did you make of your brother?" he asked, picking up the psychic fairy type after taking his seat. "Don't ya think they did great?"

"It was alright I suppose," she mumbled, turning to the side, "but it's not like he was fighting a battle or anything."

Serena couldn't stop beaming as she made her way down the empty corridor. A cool breeze blew past her, and it reminded her off the river of sweat over her face. The stage and the bright lights are hot enough even without the dancing which they performed. Once regaining a little composure, she made her way back inside the changing room which only had two of the other finalists. Both enthralled by the display of the second performer on the screen.

"You guys did great." She mentally connected with her team, taking a seat on the far side of the room. "I'm feeling very confident about this performance, and you all worked so hard so no matter what happens, just know I'm proud of you all."

Engulfing the three in a group hug, she used a light psychic barrier to protect from Cacnea's spikes. Sitting in mostly silence she watched the other five performers go one by one. Each one good in their own right. As Shauna finished up with the final performance, she turned to the three of them.

"I can only take one of you onto the stage for the results," she explained, "I thought... Meditite-"

"N-no I don't think-" She stuttered. "I-I mean, shouldn't it be Kirlia. He was there throughout the entire show."

"I don't mind." He smiled. "I just enjoy dancing, but this is really your moment."

"I won't make you go Meditite but after the rollercoaster you went on to get here..." She sighed. "I guess it seemed fitting."

The psychic fighting type seemed to glance between the four of them before closing her eyes, giving a small nod. Smiling at her, she recalled the other two Pokémon before making her way into the corridor. She held the meditations Pokémon hand until they reached the other performers. With the announcement from the host, they walked out one by one.

Taking a deep breath, she gently rubbed her thumb over the back of Meditite's hand. The lights on stage lit up and almost blinded her as the audience became nothing more than a black shilluette, although the loud cheering almost deafened her. Stopping in the row of performers, she noticed both Phoebe and Monsieur Pierre off to the side.

"Comme notre special judge today, madam Phoebe shall announce ze results!" he announced with the ghost type specialist stepping forward.

"During the intermission both our live audience and spectators at home have been casting votes. I might be wrong, but we've had a record for the Hoenn showcase circuit with over twenty-thousand votes casted, so it is my humble honour to present the winner of today's princess key..." She announced as different coloured balls illuminated the hall in which they stood. Closing her eyes, she swallowed hard. "Performer Serena Yvonne from Pallet Town!"

Opening her eyes, she blinked. A numb tingle travelled through her limbs but the tugging from Meditite snapped her back. With the audience erupting she stepped forward where Monsieur Pierre presented her with the Princess Key. Letting go of Meditite's hand, she smiled and took out her set. Attaching the second key onto her chain.

"Au revoir, people of Hoenn." He announced as the performers were led off the side of the stage. "We hope to see you all at our next spectacular showcase."

Making her way out of the building, she quickly grabbed her stuff but ignored the others that she passed by. Now that the showcase is over, she made a promise which she intends on keeping completely. Ash already knew the plan, regardless of the result and keeping her distance from the news reporters in the lobby of the performance hall, she made her way outside and pulled out her Pokédex. Using the rotation function, she switched out Milotic for another device.

In a flash of light, her pure fighting type materialised on the ground in front of her. His eyes were narrowed, and nose twitched as he stared up to her. Closing her eyes and releasing a deep breath, she squatted down to be more eye level with the handstand Pokémon.

"I take you watched the showcase from the lab?" she asked.

"I was..." he grunted. "Until that fairy fa-"

"Don't talk about anyone like that." She cut him off. "His name is Kirlia. Like it or not, he's one of your team members."

Winding his fist back, she stuck her own hand out. Releasing a psychic wave, it trapped the pure fighting type and she lifted him up. Standing back up, she lifted him up, so they were at an even height.

"You once said that you picked me as your trainer because you respect power." She continued. "There is more power in words then there is in fists. So, if you've got something to say, then say it."

"How could you let that fairy perform with Meditite?! He's not even interested in-"

"Firstly, what does performing in a showcase have to do with romantic connection? I'm not inclined towards any of my Pokémon, but I'll still perform which each of them," she replied, "secondly, your wrong about fairy type meaning they are homosexual. Just look at Swellow, she isn't fairy type. Thirdly, they're friends and wanted to do this performance together."

"Meditite never would've agreed." He growled. "I told her not to do this."

"And you think she has to do what you say without question?"

"I'm her mate," he replied, "and-"

"You hear that Meditite?" She spoke aloud. Turning to the roof, she noticed the psychic fighting type stood on the roof. Using her psychic powers to levitate herself down. Seeing the unasked request in her eye, she released her psychic grip on the pure fighting type.

"You didn't like our performance?" she asked, water welling in her eyes

"You betrayed me," he scoffed, pushing himself up from the dirt.

"I thought you would've supported me. That's what couples do," she replied, with a quiver in her voice, "they support each other."

"I could never support you parading yourself around with that fairy!" With a clenched fist, he launched himself forward towards her.

Holding her hand out, Meditite released her own psychic wave. Stopping him an inch from hitting her, she narrowed her eyes and let the energy burn over her entire body. She could feel the immense power radiating from around her and next thing she knew, the meditation Pokémon glew white. Her body expanded as the pure fighting type went flying backwards into the metal wall. Lowering her arm, the glowing stopped revealing her new form.

While still a humanoid, bipedal Pokémon, she more resembled a yoga instructor now. She had a grey body with red and yellow adornments. A red headpiece with three bulb-like extensions, which covered the upper portion of her head: one on the top and one on either side. Her eyes were slightly covered by this headpiece, and the lips seemed to be in a rounded state. Her legs appeared to be covered with puffy, pinkish-red pants that had large yellow spot on the knees and yellow bands next to her hips. Offering a small smile, she pulled out her Pokédex to scan her newly evolved Pokémon:

Medicham, The Meditate Pokémon. The final evolved form of Meditite. This Pokémon is said to represent the perfect balance between physical and mental capabilities, whereas some might specialise in one aspect or another. Medicham are equally prevalent in both, achieved through daily meditation

Type: Fighting / Psychic

Ability: Pure Power

Hidden Ability: Telepathy (Note: This hidden ability is currently unlocked)

Gender: Female

Nature: Calm (Note: This is unlikely to change due to this Pokémon being fully evolved)

Move(s): Zen Headbutt, Pound, Bide, Meditate, Confusion, Detect, Endure, Feint, Force Palm, Psybeam, Calm Mind, High Jump Kick, Fire Punch, Psychic

"Congratulations." She smiled, putting the device away. "How did that- I mean. Sorry, this just seems like a weird time for you to evolve."

"Honestly, I've been storing the power for a while. Since I split up Hitmontop from some others at the lab," she replied, "but I guess... I never wanted to access it. I didn't want to make Hitmontop... feel inferior, I guess."

"What changed?" she asked.

"He's not my problem anymore," she replied, "erm, would you mind if I meditated a bit more? This is kinda weird, being... well, a Medicham now and it feels like a good way to handle the change."

"Of course." she smiled. Her newly evolved fighting psychic type entered her meditation pose with crossed legs and levitated slightly above the ground.

Serena held out her Pokéball and recalled her into the device. Shrinking it down and attaching it to her belt, she moved over to the wall of the performance hall where the pure fighting type laid against the wall. His clenched jaw and winced eyes clearly showed he didn't appreciate the rejection from Medicham but the second their eyes locked, he straightened his face into more scowl with a visible cord in his neck.

"Look Hitmontop, I want to help you, but I can't take your behaviour anymore," she replied, "and I can't let Sylveon's eggs be put at risk so until further notice you'll be on my team. I know what Swellow thinks and honestly-"

"I'm not a fucking-"

"-I don't care either way." She cut him off. "All that matters is, your attitude. It needs to change."

Pulling out her Pokéball, she recalled the pure fighting type and stood back up. With a deep breath, she turned and started walking back towards the centre. It might seem soon, but she'll call the lab to make some more rotations. Give Medicham a chance to get use to her new form away from Hitmontop.
