Post curse
"I can't wait for our date tonight!"Mayu said to herself while thinking about Hatori. She had a tiring day teaching at school and ended up with a terrible headache that she couldn't get to go away but she wasn't going to let that stop her from spending the evening with her love. Besides, it was probably just from being around all those noisy kids all day, it'll probably go away in a little while if I just take some medicine.
She finished getting ready and said goodbye to her annoyingly, overly excited parents, and out the door, she went to me meet Hatori. He had offered to pick her up but she said no because of her parents being so embarrassing, instead, they agreed to meet at a park near the restaurant they were going to eat at.
She saw him standing there next to a large tree, the leaves slowly moving with the breeze the green leaves looked beautiful next to his dark hair while he stood there waiting for her with a peaceful, calm look on his face. She couldn't help but smile as she walked up to him.
He on the other hand immediately noticed how red her face looked as they greeted each other.
"Mayu, are you feeling well? Your face is rather flushed," he asked concerned.
"Oh, um, yes, I'm okay. I just couldn't help but notice how nice you look today," she answered completely embarrassed that he had noticed.
He simply smiled at her and grabbed her hand and they walked around the park for a while. It was beautiful out today and they were enjoying it. It was springtime and everything was in full bloom. The only thing that could make this day better would be if her stupid headache would go away.
During dinner, she found it difficult to pay attention she kept zoning in and out of the conversation despite her best efforts to pay attention to him. After she didn't answer a question, Hatori noticed the zoned-out look on her face.
"Mayu," ... No response. "Mayu,"... Still nothing. "Mayu, are you okay?" he asked her, putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Huh?...oh Sorry! I must have zoned out for a minute," she finally responded.
"It's fine, but are you okay? You don't look like you feel well," he asked her.
"I'm okay, just a bit of a headache is all," she said with a smile that she hoped was convincing enough.
It didn't convince him at all, as he noticed that her cheeks were still flushed and her lips looked pale.
"If you have a headache then we should get you home. Being in a noisy restaurant will only make it worse." he told her.
"No, it's fine I'm okay," she answered. She really didn't want to leave.
"No, we should go," he stated more firmly as he asked for the check to pay for the food.
She was disappointed but couldn't really argue seeing how just this conversation took all her energy just to focus.
As soon as they got out of the restaurant he put his hand on her forehead and frowned.
"It seems that you have a fever. We need to get you home," he told her.
"It's okay, I feel a lot better now that we're outside again. We..." she started to argue but was cut off.
"No, you have a fever. We're going home. He said firmly.
She sighed disappointedly and said "I don't want to go home though. Mom and Dad will just fuss over me and I won't get any rest anyway...and I really just want to be with you." the last part she said more quietly while looking down.
"Oh, I apologize, I meant we should get you back to my house, I guess that I forgot that it isn't your home yet," he said more casually.
She immediately looked up surprised at what he had just said. "Yet?"
"Yes, although I don't suppose that we strictly have to live there if you would prefer somewhere else," he said.
He was being so casual about it and she was in shock.
"You want us to live together?" Mayu asked surprised but hopeful.
"Actually, I want more than that... I was going to do this back in the park but Shigure said that it wasn't romantic enough and insisted that I wait until we finished dessert." he said as he pulled out a tiny, little jewelry box from his pocket. He grabbed her hand and looked her in the eyes and asked "Mayu, will you marry me?"
She was in such shock but was so excited that she jumped on him and put her arms around his neck as she said yes. He smiled thinking about how she answered like a child being told that they were getting a toy that they had wanted forever. He loved that about her though. He set her down and put the ring on her and then said "Let's go home now and get you in bed."
She quickly agreed and then said in a playful tone "Hatori, never listen to Shigure again."
"Yes, I'm rather disappointed in myself for doing that, I typically don't listen to him but I'm not the best at romance, and believe me Shigure's idea was much tamer than Ayame's," he told her.
She laughed just trying to imagine what Ayame's idea was. And as they walked home she kept smiling thinking about getting to spend the rest of her life with him. Suddenly she started to feel dizzy and told herself that she needed to calm down she was getting to excited. But it didn't work she continued to get even dizzier until suddenly she was waking up in Hatori's arms being carried back to his house.
"Huh? What's going on? Why are you carrying me?" she asked confused.
"You fainted, probably from your fever it seems quite high. We are almost home, I will put you in my bed when we get there and I'll make myself a futon tonight." he told her.
She got wide-eyed and started wiggling trying to get down saying "I'm so sorry, you don't have to carry me anymore. Besides, I took some medicine before I left the house so it should be helping now."
He tightened his grip and told her to stop moving. She was embarrassed but listened.
"You took a fever reducer already?" he asked with a slightly concerned look on his face.
"Yes," she answered noticing his concerned look.
"Your fever shouldn't be this high with a fever reducer. I'll give you an exam when we get home," he told her.
"No, you can't...I mean I'm okay," she said moving quite forcefully this time forcing him to set her down.
"Mayu, you're quite sick. You need an examination," he said wondering why there was suddenly a problem.
"Yeah, but...well, I don't like getting exams done," she said quickly and matter of factly Crossing her arms and turning her head just like an angry child.
He couldn't help but laugh. He hadn't laughed this hard in years. He had chuckled a few times here and there but hadn't ever laughed like this, not in front of her. But he couldn't help it despite the fact that he hated how much it reminded him of Shigure.
As he started to calm down he asked her "You do realize that you just agreed to marry a doctor right?"
"Well yes, but that doesn't mean that you have to give me exams," she answered
"You're going to be my wife. That means that when you get sick I'm going to give you exams. Now let's get going before you get any worse."
