The New Normal
AN: Ladies and Gentlemen welcome back! Happy new, and hopefully better, year! Rwby volume 8 is at it's halfway point and now that I sorta have an idea of where it's going I feel comfortable writing the next part of the Spider-Man Saga without mucking up future storylines! In fact now that I mention that, I want to address something, for the most part Volume 3 was well received by you all and I'm so happy that it was, however there were some issues with it which I honestly understand and agree with, but also a few ones that were a little…..mean spirited.
Regardless of the attitude however I still read them and tried to understand their criticism.
But look, I don't want to string people along so I'm going to do something I usually don't do and answer some questions here and now.
And I'll be honest it sort of put me off writing this for a while, it made me wonder if I should keep writing if people weren't going to like it but then I realized something. There's always going to be some people who don't like what I do with my story, but it is MY story. And I'm so grateful to everyone who has shown me support by favs, follows, and most of all reviews for this series so far.
But I'll admit that leading up to the tournament, last volume was a little weak, I think I paid too much attention to the 'crime is stopped in Vale completely' line from Qrow, so I think maybe I shouldn't be SUPER Strict with how I tell this part of the volume. I mean Volume 4 is….it's honestly a hot mess. I love RWBY but man it's weird.
Sun acts like a creep towards Blake and never gets called out on it, Yang has a total of four scenes in the entire volume basically across 12 -13 episodes, Blake doesn't do much despite having a ton of screen time. I love Blake's character I really do, and I understand that she needed to go home but seriously its maddening how much time she does nothing at all until the last episode. Honestly I think you could actually squeeze her stuff from volume 4 and 5 together into one and still have a compelling story.
And Yang's lack of screen time is justifiable since given her condition she wouldn't be doing much aside from what we see so I get it.
Weiss…her stuff is solid actually. Her and Ruby.
But yeah, Volume 4 is kind of just filler, BUT! It shan't (spell checker says it's spelled like that) be here! There will be action! Danger! Suspense! Romance! It'll be amazing! Spectacular! Sensational! Ultimate…eh, doesn't work as well as an adjective. It's gonna be something.
And there shall be chapters, one soon actually, that will go into what the other members of RWBY are dealing with. I mean if I gotta cover volume 4 I might as well make it fun and add some stuff!
Now True Believers! Welcome back!
"Tell me Peter, did you really think I'd stay gone?"
There was smoke and fire everywhere, the house which Peter had grown up and lived in was but burnt and charred remains as he laid against the wreckage broken, he couldn't move his body. Meaning he couldn't look away from the burning corpse of his Aunt May. Tears leaked from his eyes as he watched the last of his family slowly be erased from the world by flames. "M…..may…" he wheezed out, his voice sounding like his throat had been put through a meat grinder.
"Peter!" a choked voice tried to cry out. A purple clad foot kicked the side of Peter's head, turning him over to see Green Goblin holding his girlfriend Mary Jane up by her neck, crimson liquid rolling down from her hairline over her eye. "I-I-" she tried to say.
"Please….don't!" Peter managed to whimper out.
The Green Goblin gave him a crooked smile.
SNAP!
"NO!" Peter shouted as he shot upright, his body was covered in sweat from his fear. The darkness that enveloped his vision began to adjust, his head turned around like a swivel before he finally stopped on the dim light that slowly adjusted to the window of his bedroom. The bedroom that wasn't a pile of ashes, in a house that was still standing tall on the island of Patch and still remained intact. Letting outa breath of relief, Peter's head fell into his hands, "God….." he whispered out loud to himself as he tried to get his heartbeat to stop pounding in his throat and head.
Taking a long, deep breath, he slowly let it out. "It's ok…..it's ok." he said to himself. He had that nightmare before, ever since he found Norman's Note in his room after Pyrrha's service. It wasn't every night, but once in a while when he thought h was over it, it'd happen again. Looking outside he saw the first rays of sunlight illuminate his bedroom, where most of his belongings had been boxed up. The desk he had was emptied, his closet was now in a large Tupper container at the foot of his bed, and all of his books were neatly stack inside a trio of cardboard boxes in the corner of the room.
Maybe moving into the apartment will help? he thought hopefully as he puled the covers off his bed and stood up. Looking out his window across the driveway, he saw MJ's room was lit up and saw his girlfriend of now seven months pass by the window. He smiled to himself as he leaned against the window with his forearm braced against it, the past six months since Beacon fell hadn't been easy.
For one thing with the CCT down, it was impossible to get in touch with anyone via scrolls. Thankfully Oscorp was putting together a network that would allow for communication across the Kingdom of Vale. However for more long distance messages the only way currently to get messages across was via mail.
Peter's scroll suddenly chimed, reaching over he picked it up and read the message on it.
'You don't need to peep on me you know, you can literally hop on over to my room ;)' -MJ
Peter- 'Sorry, was lost in thought.'
'Don't be, I don't mind the view either tiger.'-MJ
Peter rolled his eyes and looked down at the old tee shirt that he wore to bed. Looking down at the corner of his bed he could barely see the blue of his costume bottoms poking out, this was a winter costume MJ had gotten him for Christmas. He had retrofitted his old webshooters into bracelets for her that she wore everywhere, they had spent a couple days in his basements teaching her how to shoot properly. However due to them being webshooters they were obviously in case of emergency only, he had also put a spider tracer in them which sent out what would be an SOS that could reach him.
Peter-'I gotta get some new clothes after the move. Most of my stuff is before my growth spurt.'
'U got the last of your stuff packed?' -MJ.
Peter- 'Got it done last night. Should move the rest into the apartment today.'
'We should celebrate! U, Me, Harry should have dinner at your place!' -MJ.
Peter pondered the idea before frowning, Harry was busy working at Oscorp. He had finally signed off on all the legal documentation that shifted his father's assets to him, harry had been working non stop since then to understand just what was being worked on at Oscrop while his father was in charge. Norman was still missing since the Fall, only a few people including him and MJ were even aware that he was the Green Goblin, and that he was involved with the Fall of Beacon to begin with.
Peter had scoured the city for any sign of Norman but found nothing. Honestly it wouldn't surprise him if he had fled to another Kingdom by now, As long as he's nowhere near MJ or May, I couldn't care where he is. Including the bottom of a pit. he thought as he typed his response.
Peter – 'Raincheck? Harry's got work. But you can help move stuff. Or just tell me where to put stuff since you have such an amazing eye for detail.'
'That IS true…..' -MJ
Peter chuckled as he stepped back from the window and got dressed for the day. Throwing his costume on under a pair of brown slacks and a blue long sleeved shirt, he also clipped on the two fit bits that he used to make his refitted webshooters inconspicuous. Now with my super spider powers, I could probably get this done in like five minutes flat. he thought as he picked up his container of clothes. I can lift a car with no problem, and as thick as my books are and how many clothes I have, a Oldsmobile they are not. he thought as he carried his clothes out the door of his room and down through the Parker house.
May was in the living room when he came down, "Good morning May." he greeted warmly, his Aunt looked at him and smiled before seeing the box he was carrying.
"Morning honey. Let me help with that." she said, walking past him and getting the door for him. "I'll be ready in a few, I just need to get some coffee." she said happily before turning around and heading to the kitchen to grab a cup while Peter walked out of his house.
Peter and Harry discussed moving into their own place for college after High School was over, however due to the Grimm overrunning Beacon and parts of Vale, Horizon University had been put on hiatus. But they still planned on moving out, which is what Peter was finishing doing today with the last of his belongings. Opening the trunk of May's car, he slid the box of clothes onto the others he had put in the other day. Man I am going to have to be careful with my Spider-Man stuff at the new place with Harry. he thought as he looked to one of the boxes that was labeled 'Lab Stuff' where he hidden his Spidey gear in.
Putting his hands on his hips he sighed as he looked over his things, Man…..this is surreal. I mean I didn't expect to spend my whole life here but still….he thought, rubbing the back of his head. As he looked over his belongings, he felt someone approach him from his side with his Spider Sense, however the lack of warning told him it was only one of two people, turning his head he saw Mary Jane walk up to him and plant her lips on his cheek, "Morning Gorgeous." he greeted.
MJ smirked as she stepped back, the redhead wore her brown coat over simple black tee shirt and jeans, while probably not the most dazzling thing she owned Peter still stood by his description of her. Her emerald eyes brightened as she smiled at him, "Morning yourself Tiger." she said, stepping into his side, his arm draping around her shoulder and pulling her in close as they looked at all his stuff. "Wow, yeah you do need more clothes." she noted.
He nodded, "Yeah but first we gotta get this stuff to the apartment." he replied, MJ noticing the forlorn tone in his voice.
The redhead knew the anxieties that came with leaving home for the first time, her decision to leave her family and come to her Aunt's was one that took months of built up courage to do so. But this was different, Peter had a loving aunt who cared for him and he worried about her, "Hey, I know your nervous now, but once it's over? You'll wonder why you were in the first place." She assured, leaning her head on his shoulder.
Peter's gaze on her was welcoming and soft, "Thanks MJ it's just…..got a lot of memories here is all." he told her.
She snorted, "I remember May telling me how you almost got hit by a car when you were drawing in the street."
Peter bristled, he remembered that day, it was shortly after he moved here with his Aunt and Uncle, until then he was just too quiet, his parents had just died and he didn't know how to handle it. He was drawing chalk on the road when some guy came barreling down the street. May pulled him off the road so fast he thought he left his shoes behind. "That was the first time I saw my Aunt May mad." he recalled with slight amusement that quickly vanished, "It terrified me."
MJ pulled away and slipped his arm off her shoulder and wrapped her's around it, "Well come on, we better get to work packing your stuff up." she said as she led him back to the house.
MJ set the last box down inside Peter's new room as it's owner set a handful of larger boxes down on the ground next to the door to the living room. "Peter do you plan on getting any furniture any time soon?" May asked from the living room. Peter looked out from the doorway of his bedroom into the barren living room/kitchen, his Aunt hadn't seen the place before today but from how she looked around she more then approved of it.
"Harry is going to be busy all week at Oscorp, he's not moving in until Saturday. Didn't feel right to get furniture for both of us without consulting each other." he explained. Of course with Harry's money he could buy an apartment ten times more what this was worth and live there, but the Osborn heir had been only interested in rooming with Pete. he continued to offer to pay rent for the both of them though, and Peter had to admit the idea wasn't a bad one since Norman was no longer connected to it. "I'll probably hit up a store sometime this week, send him a picture of something and see if he Ok's it."
May gave him a concerned look, "Now Peter don't get anything you can't handle yourself." she cautioned.
Peter heard MJ snicker behind him, "I won't, is that everything?" he asked as Mary Jane walked up beside him.
"Yeah, now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to grab some celebratory pizza from down the street." she said as she pecked him on the cheek. May smiled as she watched her nephew give her hand a squeeze before letting her go, "You want anything special May?" she offered kindly.
The older woman shook her head, "I'm fine Mary Jane, I'm not that old."
The redhead flashed her a smile, "Just making sure." she teased with a wink before walking out the door of the apartment, Peter watching her leave.
"I like her." May decided as though there was any doubt, chuckling at her little joke she looked at Peter and saw that he was staring at the door she left through. "Peter?" he turned to her, "Is there something wrong?" she asked with a hint of concern.
Mary Jane had been though the gauntlet this past year, leaving her abusive household, coming to Vale all by herself, finding a boyfriend who turned out to be a monster, and then losing the one family she had reconciled with during the Fall of Beacon. Peter had seen what those hardships had done to her firsthand, and he was always by her side as a shoulder to lean on, even before they were together. "It's just…well…..it's nothing." he dismissed, shaking his head.
May crossed her arms over her chest and gave him a probing look, Peter rubbed the back of his head a little nervously, "Well…..during the Fall I managed to call her and…..well….she told me she loved me." he explained quickly, his face turning a shade of pink at the admission. His and MJ's relationship wasn't exactly a secret to May, hell she was the first person they told! But the details about it? Peter kept those close to the chest mainly because of embarrassment.
May's face lit up, "Oh Peter that's-…..wait….then why….." she slowly asked as she saw the uncomfortable look on her nephew's face. "Oh….you didn't say it back." she realized.
"I mean….after Pyrrha's funeral? She said that I didn't need to, and ever since then I thought it was spur of the moment thing, you know the world ending and all, but I mean…." he looked down at the wooden floor, his eyes tracing over the pattern. "I do….but I don't want to screw up what we have by saying it? Even though she already said it and-" he began before May's feet came into his view. He looked up at his Aunt who gave him a gentle look.
"Peter. Do you love Mary Jane?" she asked simply.
It was a simple, but loaded question. "I….I think I do." he answered.
She gave him a look, "Then why has it taken you six months to tell her that?" she asked good naturedly.
"I've been….." he thought back to the past six months. Getting back to being Spider-Man after the Fall hadn't taken long. What took so long however was fighting off the hordes of Grimm that had infected Vale and drove it's people to evacuate. Every day he'd spend hours just….fighting. Glynda Goodwitch was leading the effort to retake the Kingdom and he school by coordinating with Huntsman, but it was a slow process. Hell the network that Oscorp was setting up still wasn't even done yet, there were spots in Vale that had no cell reception whatsoever.
But finally Vale was given the all clear status and people started to move back, which led to a resurgence in crime. He and Jean had discovered that not only where there some gangs beginning to form out of the chaos, but the Raft, the super prison that held all of his villains? Had been breached, and the only one who stayed behind was Otto Octavious, who was still sans robot arms after their last battle. "…..busy." he finished.
May frowned, "Peter." her voice echoed disappointment.
He raised his hands, "I know! I know that's no good reason I just…I don't want to screw this up with MJ. I'm really happy with her." he said truthfully.
May's disapproving look lessened, letting out a sigh she couldn't say she was surprised. "Honey, I know your scared of losing her. After your parents and Ben…but you can't let yourself be afraid to love." she said sagely.
His head bowed forward, "Is it wrong I don't want to risk changing anything?" he asked.
May shook her head, "No, but Peter change is a part of life." she began, "It happens if you want it to or not. I'm not saying you need to tell her today, or tomorrow, or this month, but you have to open yourself up to it." she told him with a familiar soft smile. She patted his shoulder. "I really am happy for the two of you."
Peter smirked, "Look if your hoping for a wedding then your gonna have to wait a while." he teased.
May barked out a laugh, "Obviously, you're both too young for that." she dismissed.
Peter couldn't hold it in, he cupped his chin in 'thought', "I'm sorry, which one of us married their summer sweetheart they met at a music festival? " he asked teasingly. May turned to him trying not to laugh, "I'm just saying." he said in his defense with his arms raised.
"I still think Pink Rain is what made me fall for him in the first place." she replied jokingly.
Peter smiled at her genuinely, "Thank you May."
She clasped his shoulder, "Of course Peter, any time."
A few minutes Later, Mary Jane returned with a pizza pie, the three of them moved some boxes from Peter's room to sit on and use a makeshift table to put the box of Pizza on. After having a few slices, May stood and gathered her coat from the rack on the wall by the door. Giving Peter a tight hug she kissed him on the cheek before leaving, closing the door behind her Peter looked back to MJ as she ate a slice of the pizza, "So….is it natural to not believe your not living at your old place anymore?" he asked.
She chewed her slice as he sat down beside her on the floor, swallowing she patted his head with her non-greasy hand, "Perfectly natural." she assured. Peter hummed, "Too bad Harry is working," he said as he looked around. "I think he'd love this arrangement." he joked.
MJ smirked, "Yes it's very minimalist."
Peter grabbed the box May was sitting on and pulled it over so that he could sit beside MJ properly, "And very modular." he added. MJ giggled before taking another bite of her food, "So how's it going with you, Gloia, and Liz?" he asked. The three of them had planned on getting a place and splitting the rent three ways, their apartment wasn't exactly close by but a web swing could easily fix that.
MJ shrugged her shoulders, "Not bad, Gloria…..I think she really needs this." she said in a sad tone, "After Kong…..I think she wants to start over. Getting a new place is a good start." she reasoned. Peter frowned but nodded in understanding, living at his old home after Ben died had been unexpectedly hard. He'd suddenly remember a conversation from looking at a chair and….
"If she needs anything, tell her I'm….I'll be there." he said softly.
MJ gave him a soft look before reaching out and taking his hand in her's, "You know that it's not your fault Peter." she stated caringly. He had told her exactly what happened to the last detail. He had done everything he could, he was simply out of his control. His head lowered and his hand tightened around her's, not enough to discomfort her but enough to know that her touch was assuring.
"I know I just…" he sighed, they had been over this, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to keep bringing it up I just…."
"Feel Responsible." MJ said with a small smile, "Peter I know, and no matter how many times you feel bad, I'm going to be here to say that your shouldn't." she playfully reminded him.
He snorted, "Girlfriend telling me I'm wrong all the time. Harry warned me about this." he replied, earning a elbow to his side and a laugh from the both of them.
Her laughter was a beautiful choir to Peter, God what was I worried about? "MJ….I-" he began to confess to her before his scroll went off at the worst possible time…..with the worst sound that it could make.
'Spectacular! Spectacular! Spider-Man! Spectacular! Spectacular! Spider-' Peter dove into his pocket and retrieved the scroll and answering it.
"YES!" he answered a little loudly, not even daring to look at his girlfriend.
"Peter? It's Robbie. You got a minute?" the editor asked, peter's frustration and embarrassment quickly vanishing.
"Yeah, sure thing Robbie." he replied as he tried hard as he could not to turn his head to look at his girlfriend when he heard what sound a muffled chortle. I am never, ever, EVER, going to live this down.
"There's a press conference being held at the Fisk Construction Site over in midtown tomorrow. Can you cover it?" he asked. Peter frowned at the mention of Fisk, he was directly responsible for the Fall of Beacon by helping Cinder Fall while she was in Vale. With the rebuilding and retaking of Vale he hadn't been able to keep tabs on Wilson Fisk, but that was going to change now.
"Count me in." he replied.
"Thanks Pete, Oh! And Ned wanted to talk with you, when you get a chance can you talk to him?" he asked.
"Sure thing Robbie. Thanks, bye." he said before hanging up and looking over at MJ. Her curtain of red hair had fallen around her face as she held it in her hands, the redhead squeaking with muffled laughter that exploded once his call was over.
"AHAHAHAHAH! OH MY GOD YOU HAVE YOUR THEME SONG AS YOUR RINGTONE!? AHAHAHHAHAHHA!" She howled in laugher, reeling back to the point of falling back onto the floor. "I-I can't breathe! I can't breathe!" she shouted as Peter shook his head and watched in mild amusement.
Aaand the moment is ruined…..yep….typical Parker luck. he sighed internally.
After finishing the food and putting the leftovers in the fridge, MJ had to leave to run some errands and Peter needed to set up his room. It took all day, but Peter had made his room his own. There was a nice bookshelf by the window he had assembled and loaded with his various books and trinkets. A simple but effective desk housed most of his lab equipment on the far wall opposite of the door, his bed had been pushed into the corner with the new sheets, pillows, and comforter he had bought beforehand. And his closet was filled completely with his clothes.
The young man felt an odd sense of satisfaction from the job well done. Sitting on his bed he looked around his room with his hands behind his head and his feet crossed, "Yeah…..this isn't too bad." he admitted. Looking on his bedside table he saw the digital clock read 9:00 p.m. "In fact, I got enough time for a little sightseeing around the new neighborhood." he said to himself as he hopped off the bed and ran to his restroom.
Outside his building, the skylight to the restroom opened up and out into the darkening sky shot a red and blue costumed hero, Spider-Man!
Aw yeah! This is what I need! Peter thought as he threw out a webline and grabbed it as it went taught. Swinging through the air before flipping off at the end. As he fell towards the streets below he extended his legs and flipped forward a number of times before shooting another web out and slinging himself back into the air. Finally, can swing around town without worrying about a Nevermore coming for my head. he thought, lifting his left hand out to cast a line.
He looked down at the streets below, watching as some people made their way through the city streets, he remembered when some of these where plainly infested with hordes of Grimm. Wonder how Beacon's reclamation is going…wonder how Ruby is doing. he thought sadly as he grabbed a street lamp and swung around it before launching off.
Ruby Rose, Jaune Arc, Lie Ren, and Nora Valkyrie had all left Vale in the wee hours of the morning six months ago. Ruby had left a note to her father and Yang explaining that she and the remaining members of team JNPR had decided to go to Haven Academy in search of answers for Cinder Fall. Peter could more then understand why, but he also knew first hand how dangerous Cinder Fall was.
Cinder is powerful, me and Pyrrha put up a good fight but she was just too much. Next time though…..if there even is one. She may never come back to Vale, she got what she wanted from Amber, the Maiden Powers…but should I have gone with them? he asked himself. Obviously the answer was no, Peter Parker couldn't just up and leave his life in the blink of an eye. His Aunt, his friends, Mary Jane, he had his responsibilities, he had his own life. But Spider-Man…..he protected Vale because he lived here, but that didn't mean he'd just ignore a crime or wrongdoing that was outside the Kingdom if he could stop it.
I mean I already have Fisk to worry about, now I got the Rose and their feud. At least with Norman gone off in hiding I can focus on taking Fisk down. But…..Cinder is the reason Vale was attacked, not even her, whoever her master is. he thought as he swung around a tower and leapt off onto the side, his feet sticking him to the side of the wall. Looking down at the ground he saw a few people walking the street, a family in the crowd huddled close together as they rushed home.
With Great Power Comes Great Responsibility. Those are the words I live by. But where do my responsibilities end? he asked himself. Was it his duty to go with Ruby and track down Cinder? Just as it was to stop a mugger who robbed someone? I mean Spider-Man could easily just go but what about Peter Parker? I live here in Vale, have all my life. I mean I'm not a Huntsmen, I don't do this for a living, I got my own life outside this costume. he thought as he sat on the side of the water tower.
I'd help Ruby and them if I could but I can't just leave because I'm Spider-Man, I'm Peter Parker too. I can't just stop being Peter just like I can't stop being Spider-Man…if there was a way to kill two birds with one stone I'd take it. But until I find said stone….I just gotta do what I can. he thought to himself before something caught his eye down below, on the sidewalk a deer faunus with antlers was walking down the street looking at his scroll, a few feet behind him a group of humans followed at a slowed pace. Their collective gaze focused on the Faunus while they also looked around. Well that's not suspicious. he thought sarcastically as he sent a webline up and swung through the air.
Following the group for a coupe blocks, it was clear to Peter that the group of humans were following him. When the street traffic died down, one in the front of the group quickly caught up to the Faunus from behind, his hand lifted up and reached for his antler's when a hand grabbed his wrist tightly, "Now that's not polite." Spider-Man said from his perch on the side of the wall. The Faunus jumped at the voice and quickly turned to see the Human about to grab him. Like his faunus namesake he took off like he saw headlights down the side walk.
"What are you doing?! Get off me!" the man shouted as he tried to yank his arm free, Spider-Man simply released him and watched as he stumbled back and fell, "You! You freak! What's your problem?!" he shouted indignantly as the superhero crossed his arms across his chest.
"MY problem? I'm not the guy who he and his friends have been stalking a guy for five blocks." he said, having watched the party of humans following him whom were all visibly aggravated by Spider-Man's arrival.
"What are you harassing us for! They're the reason Vale is like this!" One from the crowd shouted. Spider-Man's lenses narrowed, he recognized that kind of speech anywhere.
"Oh! They are? Well that makes it alright to assault random Faunus in the street then right?" he asked sarcastically as he hopped off the wall and in front of the crowd. "God, I don't know what happened to make you people like this but I am very glad I was raised better then to hate people for being different." he said as he turned back to the man who he had grabbed, only to see the man on his feet and reeling his fist back before punching Spider-Man in the side of the face!
"GAHHHH! My hand!" the man shouted, holding his now broken hand as Spider-Man stood over the kneeling man unaffected.
"And that class, is why I roll with punches thrown by idiots like you." he said, turning his head back to the crowd of people who all seemed more scared then angry now. Grabbing the man on the ground by the back of his shirt he tossed him at his friends, "Get out of here! And if I catch any of you doing something like this again, a broken hand will be the least of your worries!" he barked out at them. The crowd of racists scrambling in fear as Spider-Man stood firm.
As they ran off, Peter rubbed the side of his face, it didn't hurt but it nevertheless always felt weird when he was hit and didn't feel pain from it. Spinning a web up, he pulled himself over the nearby building to retrieve his camera from where he perched it.
"Spider-Man!" the young man looked back down to the street and saw the deer faunus with another man who MUCH bigger then he was, flipping back off the wall he landed down on the street in front of the two, the other man who was there had a large maine around his head that showed off his Lion Faunus trait.
"It's ok, they're gone. Don't think they'll be back but just to be safe I would try a different route home if I were you." he advised the deer Faunus.
He nodded as his friend seemed to relax, "Thanks Spidey, assholes like that have been popping up ever since the Fall, White Fang being at beacon doesn't really help us." he explained. Peter frowned beneath his mask, he had run into a few White Fang cells still in Vale but none of them had seen the man who had been the one to hurt Yang.
"Well if you ever need help don't be afraid to call out if I'm nearby." he said, giving them a two fingered salute before spinning a web out and swinging into the night.
These…..aren't exactly flattering. Peter thought as he flipped through the pictures of himself he had gotten last night. Standing in the elevator of the Daily Bugle, he used the chance to go over the photos he printed out the pictures on the lower floor of the Daily Bugle before taking them up. He had gotten some good shots….it was just that out of context they didn't look all that flattering, like him standing over a man clutching his broken hand, or him throwing said man into the crowd. Or him taking a shot to the jaw…ok that last one was more out of pride then appearance. However the one of him stopping the man grabbing the Faunus' antlers was perfect.
Which is why I'm showing this to Robbie and Not Jonah. he thought as the doors slid open and he stepped out into the ever busy bullpen, even more so with a number of construction crew members working to repair the large hole in a wall where the King Taiju had made. Well the Bugle wasn't hit too bad at least. he thought on a positive note, walking towards Robbie's office.
Seeing that Betty's desk was empty, he walked up to the door and knocked, hearing a muffled permission he pushed open the door and entered the office, "Hey Rob-EHH yikes!" Peter greeted in surprise once he saw the very large hole in the wall that showed the outside portion of the building.
Robbie however was sitting at his desk as though nothing was wrong, "Hey Peter." he greeted before glancing at the hole, "It's fine. Structurally speaking. I'm just grabbing some stuff before moving into the pen for a while." he explained.
"Ah….ok. Um, I got a shot of Spidey last night stopping a gang of people from hurting a Faunus, need it?" he asked as he walked over to Robbie as he searched his desk. "Need a hand?" he offered.
"Yes actually, can you try and help me unjam this drawer?" he asked, pulling hard on the drawer hard enough to make the desk shake. Peter reached down, grabbed the knob and gently applied his strength as to pull the drawer loose. "Thanks." Robbie said gratefully before reaching inside and pulling out some files. "Now what is this about Spider-Man?" he asked.
Peter informed him of the events of the night before as he walked with Robbie to his temporary desk, the editor gave a tired sigh, "I've been getting stories about that for a while, ever since the Fall, Faunus have been targeted by more attacks." he said as he put his files into his desk. "I got someone doing a story on it actually, this will be great for it. Thanks Peter, your usual rate ok?" he asked.
Peter nodded, "Sure, I'll stop by after the Fisk thing later today. Any idea what that's about?" he probed, Fisk had been busy doing seemingly legitimate work with his construction company for repairing the city that he hadn't come across any goons of his recently. And he had been keeping clean on the surface since before Beacon fell, but he noticed that Fisk had been plenty busy with his construction business rebuilding the Kingdom.
Fisk was once again making money from other's misery, "I've heard rumors but nothing solid, Urich said there might be a economic angle." Robbie replied.
Peter nodded absentmindedly before bidding Robbie goodbye, Kingpin has to have some sort of evidence linking him to Cinder. I know that Jean has a copy of the evidence I gave her but it only implicates Norman and Fisk, if I can connect either of them to Cinder? I got conspiracy. he thought as he walked to the elevator. The doors opened and he nearly walked into Ned Leeds, "Oh! Sorry Ned, my bad." he apologized as he stepped past his friend into the elevator.
The reporter didn't look minutely offended, "Pete! Just who I was looking for, can I ask you something?" he asked as Peter pushed the ground floor button on the elevator.
"I mean you just did but sure." he answered jokingly.
Ned rolled his eyes but didn't stop his smiling, "Me and Betty are getting married in two weeks, and I was wondering if you'd be our photographer?" he asked, causing Peter's eyes to widen at his offer.
"What! Of course! I'd be happy to." he said excitedly as he clasped Ned on the shoulder, his friend smiling in relief. "Are you sure though? I'm not exactly a professional." he asked to be sure. While his shots of Spider-Man paid the bills, he didn't have top of the line equipment to do so like other photographers had. He was pretty sure Eddie Brock had a better camera and he wasn't even a photographer.
Ned nodded, "Yeah! I mean I'll pay you if that's what your wondering-"
Peter raised a hand, "No, out of the question, this one is free. Not every day you get married." he said with a shake of his head. Ned gave him a meaningful smile, "Um….do you think it'd be ok if I brought a guest?" he asked unsurely. He wasn't exactly clear if asking MJ to go to a wedding with him would send some sort of wrong message to her.
"Sure! I'll talk details with you later. Ok?" he asked as they walked out of the elevator.
"Sure thing, I gotta get to a press event, see you Ned." he said as he walked out the doors of the bugle.
Ned nodded to himself contently before pausing. "…..wait a second my floor was-oh damnit." he muttered as he turned and hit the call button on the elevator that had already been called up.
Marriage, man glad that's far off o the horizon. Peter thought as he snapped a picture of the podium in front of the Fisk Construction site, there was a decent sized crowd of people attending. Most of it being press from various outlets, with Peter near the back so he could get a good overview of the event. He considered possibly camping out on a ledge but Spider-Man showing up here might cause a scene with Fisk so he decided against it. Man me and MJ….married. the image of Mary Jane wearing an old style dress that a housewife from fifty years back might wear with her hair done up in a certain way popped into his mind. He instantly shook his head at how….weird that seemed for someone like MJ, I gotta find something better to watch then those I love Lulu reruns on at night to fall asleep to. he thought to himself.
"Boo!"
Peter nearly leapt ten feet in the air at Mary Jane's voice in his ear, turning around his hand clutching his chest he saw MJ giggling at him, "God! You scared the crap out of me!" he wheezed out as his girlfriend tried to stifle her laughter, if they were alone he'd give her something to laugh about but instead he settled on poking her in the side where he knew she was ticklish, "What are you doing here?" he asked poking her side.
She snorted out a laugh, "Truce! I knew you were covering this, and my work is five minutes away so thought maybe I'd surprise you on my lunch break." she said happily.
Peter smiled at her before wrapping her up in a hug, "Thanks, but it probably won't be exciting. Hopefully we can grab a bite if it's not too long." he said hopefully.
The redhead looked at the podium where she saw Fisk's name and frowned slightly, "Sucks you need to cover Fisk of people." she said sympathetically. The Kingpin was a sore spot for Peter, he was his oldest foe and despite all the work Peter had done to try and have him put away, it never worked.
He sighed, "Yeah. I was just thinking about it earlier." he admitted, he and DeWolf thought Norman could be the key to bring him down but neither could have imagined the lengths he would go to try and remain in control of his life or his son. Even if he brought Norman in, he could just spill Peter's secret and ruin his life just as easily as he ruined Norman's.
There were more then a few days, especially after the fall of Beacon, that he wondered if it was worth the trouble. But deep down he knew that was a dumb question, he couldn't give up on Kingpin just because it was difficult. Looking at MJ he flashed her a small smile, the small but meaningful look told her that he was ok. He raised his camera and readied himself as the door to the limo opened.
Beside him, MJ's smile dropped and was replaced with shock as she set her eyes on the Kingpin, "….oh." she muttered.
Wilson Fisk, wearing a white suit and brown vest with a purple ascot, walked out of his limo with a cane in hand as a dozen Photos were taken of him. "He…brothers he's big." she muttered as someone got out of the limo behind him.
Peter turned to her questionably, "MJ you've seen photos of the guy. I mean granted they add some weight but not the size of a stadium." he said in a low whisper before snapping a picture of him waving to the crowd of people.
She leaned over, "I know but dude he's so big he makes a desk look like a footstool." she whispered back. MJ had stared down a honest to god vampire, or the closest thing to it, but Fisk exuded an air of intimidation. Despite the smile he flashed his audience she felt like he could crush her head with his thumb like a doll, "I mean I wondered how you can't beat a normal guy but…"
"Hey I could beat him if I wanted, but I can't just wail on someone who I say is a bad guy." he replied a little defensively. It was true that Fisk was one of the only people he hadn't outright beaten in a fight. But the guy was obviously trained, had fists that were more like bowling balls then hands, and despite his size could move pretty quick.
"No I don't blame you it's just…..he's like the line between the normal guys you fight and guys like Sandman or something." she explained.
"Pretty thick line." he replied, making her snort as Fisk got behind his podium with his guest standing off behind him.
Fisk walked up to the podium where the mic was perfectly angled for him already, "Ahem, I'd first like to thank all of you in attendance for taking the time to hear me out today. I know now is the time to rebuild, which is what Fisk Construction has been doing around the clock since the unfortunate events of six months ago." he told the crowd gathered there. Peter rolled his eyes before took another photo. "The attack on the Huntsmen Academy last Fall left it's scars across the Kingdom and the world at large, but I'm here today to try and help mend those scars as best I can."
"The ones you caused." Peter muttered.
Fisk flashed a proud smile as he grabbed the sides of the podium, "To that end! I'm proud to announce my friend and colleague, Samuel Bullet, District Attorney for the Kingdom of Vale, shall be running for a seat on the Council of Vale!' he announced, being met with a roar of applause from the crowd as the man behind Fisk stepped forward, the man was middle aged with a black suit and crew cut black hair, he wore a smile on his face that looked good on the picture took of him.
Bullet? Well that's a marketable name right there. I figured that Fisk had some D.A.s in his pocket but getting one to run for Vale Council? he thought suspiciously. If anything he'd thought.
Bullet shook Fisk's hand and stepped up to the podium, "I've been the District Attorney for Vale for the past three years. I've seen crimes committed on various scales but nothing in my entire career as a member of law enforcement….can even touch what happened to Beacon and Vale during the Vytal Festival." he said to the crowd. "We know those responsible and are searching for them, but I believe that we must strike at the root of the problem. People like Roman Torchwick and Adam Taurus of the White Fang are all symptoms of a greater disease. Lawlessness." he explained, Peter and MJ shared a confused look at the correlation.
"Before the Vytal Tournament, Vale had been victim to a number of criminals such as Otto Octavious, Adrian Tombs, and the masked terrorist known as the Green Goblin to name just a few. But at the core of this lawlessness is the Vigilante actions of Spider-Man!" he proclaimed.
OH COME ON! Peter and MJ both thought at once.
Bullet pulled out a paper from his inner jacket, "To which end along, with my candidacy for a seat on the Council, I also hereby issue a arrest warrant for the Vigilante! So that we may cut this cancer out from the root!" he said, "By allowing Spider-Man to run free we send a message that we tolerate his kind of lawbreaking, let's send a message that there won't be any tolerance for this kind of ilk!" he announced, making the crowd applaud in approval.
MJ placed a hand on her boyfriend's shoulder as he ran a hand down his face, "You got to be kidding me!" he growled out in aggravation. After all the good he's done he was being used as a scapegoat!?
"Hey, ignore him, if he's with Fisk then he has to be dirty." MJ supplied, her eyes looking at Bullet and noticing someone in a trench coat moving up to the stage. "Um Tiger?" she said, he looked up as a pair of security guards walked up to the covered figure but one was kicked up into the air and into the construction lot past Bullet's head!
"Oh no, someone's attacking the Kingpin and the guy who sent a warrant out for Spider-Man's arrest. If only someone was here to save them." MJ dryly said as the crowd began to scatter in a panic. Peter took MJ's arm and pulled her aside as the crowd burst out running. In an alley, Peter pulled out his mask from his back pocket, "Wait!" she said, making him pause before she leaned in and pecked the side of his cheek, "Go get 'em Tiger!" she playfully encouraged.
"You got it pretty lady." he replied as he shot a web up above their heads and pulled himself up past a fire escape to change into his costume while on the stage, Bullet and Kingpin where surrounded by security shooting at the assailant who was sidestepping the shots with ease, swinging his foot out at one of the guars something sliced through the barrel of the gun before he was kicked into the other guards.
Fisk agitatedly stepped forward with his cane in hand, "I don't know who you think you are but you're making a grave mistake." he growled out.
"The only gave here is yours Fisk!" the shrouded man said before a webline snagged the back of his coat.
"Alright I'll admit that was a pretty good comeback, little too dark for me but hey, A for effort." Spider-Man said as he pulled the man back off the stage from one of the metal support beams that the stage had. The trechcoated man flipped through the air and landed on the pavement, "I'll give you a six for the landing, I'd give you a nine but the attempted murder bumped you down a few points." the vigilante quipped as the coated man tore the shroud off him.
The man was an adult man with paled skin, his exposed torso and arms showcased that along with black veins originating from his hands and crawling up his arms to a large black Spider symbol that was on his chest. the top of his face was covered by a black bandana mask with eyes that were similar in design to peter. He wore a pair of loose fitting red pants with shoes that looked like they blades fitted at the end of the tips. "…alright can we sidebar really quick? I think I need to call my lawyer."
"You dare mock me pretender?!" The man exclaimed as he lunged at the wall crawler his hand reaching out and shooting a webline from the palm and swinging on it!
Spider-Man flipped off onto the stage and shot back onto the fence of the construction site, "Dare? No, not really my thing. Mocking however I excel at. For instance, are you a fan? Is this cosplay? Because if so, love the design, not a fan of the motive." he joked aloud. A spider faunus?! Great, he's an assassin too. This is going to go over well for Faunus relations. Also my public image. he thought as the assassin lunged at him once again, Spider-Man leaping up into the air only to have a webline snag his foot and yank him down back to the ground.
"Ugh! Is that what that feels like?" he asked before the man swiped his foot at the vigilante's head, his hand shooting up and grabbing him at the ankle before throwing it up and making the man flip through the air before landing flat on the ground. "So got a name?" he asked as he assassin picked himself up with his hands and quickly slid his foot out and swung hip, the hero's Spider Sense warning him to lean back as the balde at the tip of the assassin's boot extended out three feet, the weapon would have cut him from the chest up if not for the reaction.
"Wait! Let me guess! Daddy Long Legs!" Spider-Man mocked as he flipped back as the assassin spun kicked at him. The hero raised his forearm to block the leg with one hand while his other fist swung a right cross into the man's gut in midair, sending him flying though a cement mixer and tumbling back to one of the metal supports of the under construction building.
"I'm the Tarantula pretender! And I'll be the last foe you face!" he declared as he jumped up and sliced out a section of the support with his blades with two swift sipes of his leg before landing down and spin-kicking the support at the wallcrawler. Spider-Man sidestepped the projectile and sent a webline back out to catch it, letting the webbing extend he pulled his arm back and flung it back at the Tarantula who raised his leg up high and did an axe kick and split the I beam down the middle with his bladed shoe.
He didn't expect Spider-Man to launch himself right behind the beam so the swing-kick to his chest that sent him up into the construction site was unprepared for.
Hitting his back against a beam, he grabbed onto the ledge and pulled himself up onto the narrow walkway. Spider-Man's webbing wrapped around the beam and flung himself onto the bottom of the one above Tarantula. "Listen pal, call me 'pretender' all you want, I never claimed to be a faunus. Heck I went on TV and said I wasn't! Though technically I broke in….hmm" he hummedas he cupped his chin
The assassin fired his webbing at the vigilante, he elapt across the Skellington of the building a few yards, the Tarantula spraying after him when Peter noticed that his webbing lost it's distance. Wait a second of course! He can make webbing sure, but my webshooters are mechanical. I got reach. He doesn't…..and up here in the building, I can use that to my advantage. he thought as he leapt up to the next floor with the assassin following after him. I can't measure it but I'd say…..twenty meters is his max distance. he estimated.
"Missed me! Missed me!" Spider-Man mocked as he waved his hands at the foe. Tarnatula growled in frustration as he leapt to a beam and used his blades on his feet to perch on it and launch off. Reaching the top floor of the building, about eight stories tall, Spider-Man looked around and saw nothing around within the distance Tarantula could spin a web at. The closest thing was a crane that supported a bundle of support beams but the arm was high up out of his range, Alright. Now I gotta trap him.
The masked man sneered, "You say you fight for everyone, you claim to be some sort of hero! But what about us? These humans have treated my people with nothing distain!" he exclaimed as he shot webbing from his hands at the vigilante. Spider-Man unleashed his own torrent of webbing and intercepted the weblines from Tarantula, the silver webbing collecting a mass with the grey from the faunus.
"So that gives you the excuse to try and off Fisk and the D.A?" he asked as he jumped from the beam he was on to the one Tarantula was rushing down.
Spider-man flipped over a kick and blocked a punch, "You should be thanking me! They declared you an outlaw! You should have let me finish them off!" he exclaimed as he drove his knee into Spider-Man's gut, Peter recoiled from the hit and was followed up with an elbow to the face that made him stumble back across the beam. "You're not a pretender Faunus, you're a pretender hero!" he shouted as he lunged with his blade and foot extended out to the hero.
Spider-Man's hands snapped up and caught the flat sides of the blade, throwing it up sent Tarantula spinning and allowed Spider-Man with a solid side kick to his back, sending the assassin flying across the beam to the open ledge. "Are you done?!" Spider-Man exclaimed. "Because you know, if you were anyone else? I might listen to you, yeah the Faunaus don't deserve what's happened to them, I never said they didn't. But I'll take being called a pretend hero from some assassin over being called a hero by one." Spider-Man said as he marched towards the Tarantula.
He looked around for some way to get distance but found nothing around but the beams that were far out of reach. Looking down at the ground he saw that Fisk and D.A. where still present and watching them from the stage along with a number of bystanders and reporters. "Look not that this hasn't been fun, in fact the spider vs spider action was kinda cool but-" he began as Tarantula swung his foot out towards the cable and the blade on his boot disconnected! "-Oh you Loser Longlegs!" Spider-Man exclaimed as the blade sliced through the cable, making the bundle of beams fall down.
Grabbing the Assassin by the shoulder, he spun him around and delivered a powerful left hook to his face, dazing him as he fell off the beam with a webline connecting him to the beam before he dove off after the I beams falling down towards the crowd. One hand reached back up towards the crane and sent a webline up to the yellow metal arm while his other reached down and shot out a large wide net of webbing to the support beams that were still relatively close together.
The webbing wrapped around the beams and Peter felt the weight pull on him, "Hng! Well…at least I stopped them." he said uncomfortably. The weight wasn't much of a problem, and after adjusting himself he was able to look down and see the people who hadn't run away as they fell looking up at him in anger.
"There! See that! He tried to crush us!"
"Yeah they should both be locked up!"
"Where's the police! Someone shoot him!"
Peter turned his attention down to Fisk as his D.A. friend ran to one of their aids and pulled their gun out. Fisk was smiling at the wall crawler, raising his hand he waved at him. …you know what?! Screw you asshole! Peter thought as Fisk turned away.
"Bullet, come, we should go." he said as his friend followed him off the stage.
The D.A. shook his head, "I didn't expect him to show up! He won't try anything with us will he?" he asked as he looked back at the vigilante as he lifted up the support beams with one hand. The Councilman to be swallowed but Fisk's large hand on his shoulder made his attention turn to the larger man.
"No worries. I don't believe he's bold enough to do anything drastic." Fisk said assuredly, he knew that Spider-Man lived by some simplistic moral code. Which worked well in his favor as it ensured he wouldn't strike at him unprovoked. As they approached the car they arrived in, he saw the driver outside gawking at the display, "Dan, would you kindly get the door for our associate?" he asked firmly. The heavy set driver nodded as Fisk turned back to his Large limo.
Just before the support beams landed on the back of it and crushed it.
Fisk stopped smiling.
Peter walked though his new apartment building his hands stuffed in his pockets, his fingers playing with the key to his place as he waked up the stairs. Ok maybe dropping the I beams on Fisk's car wasn't the best look for Spider-Man…..but god it was so worth it. he thought to himself with a satisfied smirk as he walked up to the top floor of the apartment. He had swung away quickly after that, found a quiet rooftop, and promptly laughed his ass off at what he had just done. He heard from Jean that Tarantula had escaped by the time they got there. But they doubted that they would take another swing at Kingpin anytime soon, she hadn't mentioned the warrant issued for his arrest however.
Man that's gonna make things much harder. he thought to himself, Maybe Jean should lay low for a while with the D.A. in Fisk's pocket. I mean she might not listen to me but still. he thought as he reached his apartment door. He had check in with MJ after the entire debacle but she had to get back to work and he needed to get back to the Bugle. But the headline was set for tomorrow, 'Spider-Man: Wanted!".
Jonah's gonna be tickled pink with that. he thought as he unlocked the door to his and Harry's apartment. Walking inside, he closed the door behind him.
"Pete! Hey!" Peter looked up to see Harry Osborn grinning at him as he set up device on a small table against the wall.
Peter immediately smiled back, "Harry! I thought you weren't gonna be here until the weekend!" he exclaimed as he walked over and embraced his best friend.
Harry pulled back and smirked before shrugging his shoulders, "Eh, I'm in charge. I told people to do my work for me." he said before looking around the apartment. "So…..furniture…." he trailed off.
The secret hero nodded, "Riiight. See I was gonna go out and look at some today but….well work got in the way." he admitted sheepishly. With all the trouble that happened, furniture completely slipped his mind.
Harry nodded, "Yeah I was about to order some online but….no CCT." he added as he held up his scroll. He then gestured to the table with a black cylinder across the back of it, "I did get the TV projector hooked up though." he said positively. "Also it's weird that we have TV but no internet or scrolls working." he said as he looked down at his device.
Peter nodded, "Right? Oh! We got some pizza from last yesterday in the fridge!" he said, snapping his fingers.
Harry grinned, "Sounds like a good dinner to me."
After warming up the Pizza, and Harry grabbing some pops from the vending machine just outside the front door. The two friends sat down on the boxes that Peter had used as makeshift tables and chairs the night before, a slice of pizza in their hands with paper plates in their laps. "MMMmmh! And this was from right down the street?" Harry asked as he finished a slice.
Peter nodded as he flipped through channels, "Yeah, I haven't gotten a chance to go out and around much but there's a nice breakfast place a block away we can probably stop at tomorrow before going furniture shopping." he said, recalling the diner he has stopped a robbery at the night before as Spider-Man.
Harry suddenly snickered to himself, "Look at me, an Osborn eating pizza for dinner in an apartment with no furniture…dad would have a stroke." he thought amusingly before taking a bite. Glancing at Peter he saw the concerned look and smiled at him reassuringly, "Dude, I'm fine."
"Sorry just…..you know you can talk with me if….you know." he said before shrugging and turning back to the TV as Lisa Lavender came on the news.
'-with the very public display of vandalism Spider-Man displayed earlier today, a number of citizens of Vale have shown support for D.A. Samuel Bullet's bid for city councilman. With there only being one seat, an election will have to be held to determine who will fill it.' she informed.
Harry gave Peter a sideways look, "Did he really crush Fisk's car?" Harry asked.
"I mean….I didn't see it happen…" he replied as a video played of him tossing the bundle of beams onto Fisk's limo. "…not that it matters." he finished as he pitched the bridge of his nose and flipped the channel to the Daily Bugle News Network.
'Hello this is Daily Bugle Correspondent Nora Winters with a Breaking News Broadcast!' a young blonde woman said exuberantly. She was a little older than Peter was with a purple button up shirt and short blonde bob cut, Peter had seen her around the Bugle but he never really talked with her. Behind her was what looked like a press conference at the Bugle with Jonah himself behind a podium.
"Oooh boy." Peter groaned out.
"Hello my fellow citizens of Vale! First and foremost! I want to express my outrage over the actions of the masked menace Spider-Man committed today! Not only did he lead damage Wilson Fisk's private property! But him and his accomplice destroyed work on a tenement building!" Jonah raved.
Ok I actually can't knock him on the 'accomplice' bit. He was calling himself Tarantula.' Peter thought dryly as he ate a slice of his pizza.
"But that's not why I'm here today, you can read about that in tomorrow's Bugle. No, I'm here today to make an announcement. Earlier today, District Attorney Samuel Bullet announced that he'd be running for election as the newest member of the city council." he began, getting Peter's interest. "Now Samuel Bullet is a fine man, in fact I've been calling for a warrant for Spider-Man since his appearance! However, I don't feel that he's been focusing on the issues that we face." he said.
"Beacon was attacked last Fall, I was here in the city when it happened, I was right here in this very building with the brave men and women of this paper waiting for Atlas ships to come aid us. Which they did. However…..not everyone was so lucky." he said solemnly. "We've lost friends, family….neighbors, humans and Faunus alike. And the act of which is due to three known individuals. Cinder Fall Mercury Black and Emerald Sustari. This has been public knowledge for months now."
Peter was admittedly impressed by Jonah's tone, "People say that….I blame Spider-Man for everything. But I don't blame him for the Fall. That act falls upon these cowards who manipulated things from behind the scenes so that Grimm would invade. Not Spider-Man, which Samuel Bullet has pinned this on."
Peter's and Harry's jaws dropped, "Did…..did he just…"
"Harry so help me god if you say anything to ruin this I'm kicking you out." Peter said as he raised a hand to shush him.
"These are the facts, and a D.A., much less a city Councilman, ignoring the facts…..well that shows that he's not fit for office in the slightest." Jonah said on the broadcast. Peter grinned as he clapped his hands together.
"Hell yeah Jonah!" he exclaimed.
"Which Is why I'm here to announce, I shall be running for city councilman!"
….what.
Peter's face contorted into despair, "NNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN-"
Across the world on the contient of Anima, Ruby Rose looked up from the Campfire that she, Jaune, Ren, and Nora had set up in the woods. "Did you guys hear something?" she asked.
The other three listened, "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Nora shrugged her shoulders, "Eh I think it's just the wind." she said before taking the marshmallow she had been roasting over the fire and eating it off the stick she stuck inside.
"Nora that's disgusting." Ren said plainly.
Ruby looked back to the fire, …..I wonder what Peter is doing right now?
AN: Ahhhhhh. It's so nice to post this chapter.
Tarantula is one of the most silly ass Spider-Man villains I think I've read but I sorta love him for that. And I decided to RWBYize him for the fic, plus it makes sense that the one other spider themed bad guy is actually a Spider faunus. And I loved writing this fight scene, I wanted to make Peter feel more mature and experienced since he's been at this for so long that he doesn't lose every first fight he's in.
Also I don't know what it was but I really liked writing tarantula's fighting style, if your at all familiar with him from the comics you probably know his feet are super deadly and writing that was really fun. Spidey is a little hard since he has so much at his disposal with all his powers but I try and make tit fun.
Speaking of Spidey news, Last Remains finally wrapped up and holy crap I loved it! I understand that it's got some flaws but overall I love what it's done for the characters and I'm really excited to see what happens next.
And in rwby…god damn a lot has happened. The Hound probably being the biggest thing to hit the FNDM in a while, it's weird to think we're halfway through the volume already but honestly I can't wait to see where things go. This week they're postponing the new episode until next Saturday due to the freezing weather in Texas that has left a lot of people without power, plumbing, and heat.
If your down there and reading this then stay safe and warm, if you can, consider offering your friends a place to stay for a bit until their heat comes back on if you can.
Man I'm honestly so happy with how this chapter turned out and I hope you are too! Peter moving out, MJ getting a modeling gig, Harry Stepping up, and Jonah running for councilmen (and don't worry this won't be just like the plot in V7, that was my first thought when I saw that happening last year) all show the same thing that V4 did for the girls, things change and they have to keep moving forward.
Also like I mentioned before I plan on having chapters that are centered around the RWBY girls with some….guests showing up in them. I really think you'll like them! I have Ruby's planned out already and I'm working on the other's. The plot for this volume is also almost drafted, something I've been trying to do more of.
If you liked the chapter leave a review, thank you True Believers, stay warm out there!
