Every crew member of the U.S.S. Enterprise got the notice to report to duty. The star ship Enterprise was finished and ready to set sail. It was the start of her voyage to her five-year mission. I took a seat on the shuttle with my bag stowed by my feet. The spot next to mine became occupied. The scent of a musk and woods filled my senses. A lopsided smile graced his lips, "Glad to see no request for a transfer or leave was on my desk this morning."

I glanced at him then decided to occupy myself with fiddling with my bag's handles, "I decided to change my mind. I found it is rather beneficial for me to stay among the crew of Enterprise."

Jim felt elated. He dropped his voice to a whisper so others on the shuttle wouldn't hear, "Dinner after first shift?"

I looked up with knitted brows. Jim raised an eyebrow, "Judging by that look, you weren't expecting me to pursue you?"

"I was not. " I couldn't help but feel the jump of my heart.

I touched my side where my heart lies. Jim glanced down noticing the movement but didn't say anything. Jim brought his voice low once again, "I told you. I like you. Really like you and I like to have dinner with you, if you would like to."

I wasn't able to answer as the doctor and Spock came aboard. Both are arguing. The two of them took their seats behind the two of us. Doctor McCoy noticed I was in front of him, "Glad to see you are still among us, Sara. With you aboard, you at least would make your brother tolerable."

I scoffed with slight annoyance, "I'm not my brother's keeper. If you have issues with Spock then you should deal with them with himself."

Spock gave a little nod agreeing, "I agree with her doctor. You should express your displeasure."

I turned to my brother feeling my annoyance reach another degree, "And you shouldn't pester the doctor to the point he is stressed and in constant annoyance with your behavior."

Bones raised his eyebrows. He mentally put a note of sudden irritation to my long list of emotions. Spock opened his mouth to say something but I held up a finger, "Don't. Now can I please have a quiet relaxing shuttle ride to the Enterprise? Thank you!"

Those around us hushed to quietness. I turned back around in my seat as the shuttle pilot boarded. Jim opened his mouth but I raised a hand between the two of us, "I decline your offer of dinner, Captain. I think I am going to have dinner in my own quarters."

Those words immediately had both men behind the two of us turn their attention towards Jim. Jim's lips went into a firm line. His shoulders sagged a little. I remembered the conversation between Spock Prime and I. I personally would not want to give into my emotions entirely till I have them sorted out. I leaned my head against the coldness of the shuttle window. Scotty already boarded the ship making way with the prep work. I wished I went with him when he offered to avoid the bickering 'married' couple of my brother and the doctor as well as the flirting captain.

I pushed my way through the boarding members of the Enterprise to head to the engineering room. At least I knew I have some kind of solace within machinery and my best friend.

"Alright Keenser, ya do the diagnostics on that half and I'll do this half. Sara wouldn't be here till later."

I turned the corner seeing Scotty holding his P.A.D.D. A small smile reached my lips, "I actually decided to come help now if that is alright?"

Scotty and Keenser looked up from their P.A.D.D.s Scotty looked confused, "I thought ya wanted to rest in your quarters before your shift."

I waved a hand up and down, "Things have happened on the shuttle and I wanted to occupy my mind a bit."

Scotty tilted his head towards the area Keenser was supposed to go, "Okay you, go get started and we can meet in this spot to go over what we have."

Keenser glanced my way before giving a nod. He left the two of us alone. Scotty started on his half of the room for diagnostics. I followed the scotsman. It took me a moment to speak up, "If you were wondering which I am sure as it is human nature to be curious of a friend's well being... The captain asked me to dinner tonight after first shift. Before I could give my answer-."

Scotty stopped what he was doing turning towards me interrupting me," Woah, woah there lass. You said the captain. THE captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise asked you to dinner."

I blinked before slowly nodding, "Yes. Yes the only captain who could be of this vessel at this current time. Back to what I was saying Spock and the doctor were arguing and brought myself into their petty fight."

Scotty snorted, "Petty fight, eh? I'm surprised you would describe a Vulcan arguing as petty."

I plucked the P.A.D.D out of Scotty's hands. I pressed a few tabs to continue forward with the diagnostic. I kept my eyes glued to the screen, "As petty as a Vulcan can get. I am sure with what they are arguing about is not important. Those two do not get along and one can see it. I rather not be in the same room as those two."

Scotty peered at the screen reaching to press a couple tabs but I slapped his hand away. I continued, "I declined the captain."

Scotty's eyes lifted from the screen to study my person. I moved to another core to run the diagnostic. Scotty followed. He asked, "Out of curiosity, why?"

"When one has one time sex with another, does not mean the other is obligated for further..."

I hesitated, "Romantic involvement. As you already know, I-."

Scotty's voice turned into a harsh whisper, "You had sex with the captain!?"

I refused to look at the scotsman. Once the diagnostic was finished, I moved to the next. I answered, "Yes I did. It was a matter of literal life or death. It was either him or a delivery man. It did not matter at the time as I was at my end of my rope."

Scotty pulled the P.A.D.D out of my hands. He placed it underneath his arm, "Look at me, Sara. What do you mean by this?"

I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear. I felt my face warm at the thought of having to explain now. I cleared my throat, "Vulcans go through this rigorous life event every 7 years. It's called a Pon Faar. Our instincts revert back to our primal urges. Normally we would go back to our betrothed but considering my betrothal is not mine anymore. I was stuck. I have to do something to satisfy the primal need. If we don't, we can die due to how strong it can inflict on us."

Scotty ran a hand through his reddish hair. He shook his head while turning in a circle slowly. Scotty tapped the P.A.D.D against his pant leg, "Oh... Sara... Did you express to the captain you don't have feelings for him in that sort of way?"

I nodded crossing my arms, "I explained to him my situation and he agreed to it to keep it solely to help me in my situation. Now he claims he likes me."

Scotty eyed me. His arms now crossing against his chest. He licked his lips in thought, "Sara. Do you like him in that way?"

A slight jump in heart beat raised some inner concern. Ignoring the sudden raised heart beat, I shook my head, "Despite he can sufficiently pleasure the opposite sex, I do not think that constitutes me to feeling that way with him. If I did, I do not want to as you would say follow my heart. My mind isn't in the right place for any kind of relationship."

The scotsman scrunched up his nose, "I did not need to know about the captain that way, thank you very much."

I shrugged walking to the next warp core, "Obviously, I am here and alive. He performed well on his end."

Scotty followed me shaking his head and hands in front of him, "Ay, I do not need to know 'bout this!"

The intense feeling of wanting to tease my friend grew more. I felt my lips tilt upward into a smirk. Without turning towards the scotsman who immediately went to the core, I let out a sigh, "I was stuck with bruises for days however, I was relaxed. It was a nice change to the constant primal instinct."

Scotty groaned. He moved his leg towards me tapping me in the butt, "Get on git! I don't need ya down here! It's not even yer shift yet. Go get some rest, ya devil!"

I couldn't help but release the chuckle that bubbled upwards. Scotty pointed to the lift, "Out!"

I smiled softly, "Thank you Scotty. You've helped me."

I turned reaching over to the scotsman. I leaned over giving him a kiss to the cheek. He swatted towards me, "Don't make me order ya out."

Rolling my eyes, I stepped away heading to the lift, "Can't! If I recall I am your senior officer in a normal setting."

Scotty grumbled to himself, "Hardly."
