Finally, I updated! Writer's block is the worst. (Also my attention span is pretty much nonexistent-)
Two full years went by with little Zane in Mr. Chen's Orphanage for Young Children, but it felt like an eternity. Zane was like any normal baby, although his eating habits were slightly disturbing, and he refused to sleep alone in his small, poorly made crib, but that didn't change anything.
Strangely, every time Mr. Chen entered the same room Zane was in or got too close to one of the older kids, Zane would burst into tears and scream until Mr. Chen left the room. That got the attention of half the village in just 5 minutes, so Mr. Chen tries his best to stay as far away from the small baby.
Besides being young, Zane barely had anything in common with the other children in the orphanage; although, they all thought the same thing: The old man might take him away. Every month, an old man dressed in white, with a long gray beard, and a staff, would visit the orphanage. He never adopted anyone, as far as the kids knew, he would talk to Miss Skyler and leave. The next day, the old man would come back to collect a child. A few rumors spread around, some said the man took bad kids away, others said he was a ghost, only wanting a child. Though, no one knew if the rumors were true, they just knew Zane was next.
Zane was always clinging onto the oldest child. (Who Mr. Chen never learned the name of.) Zane was a quiet baby, almost unnatural, but every time he was with the oldest child, he would let out a bit of meaningless babbles. Everyone thought it was just a normal thing and ignored it, but the oldest child spoke to Zane as if they were having a conversation only those two could understand. Mr. Chen had a feeling that the strange baby was going to ruin everything.
He had no idea how right he was.
It was late at night when Mr. Chen and Clouse had to smuggle the oldest child out of the orphanage. They already put a sleeping pill in the kid's food, so he wasn't going to wake up for a while. Clouse slung the child over his shoulder and quietly made his way to the front door where Mr. Chen was waiting.
"Great, you have him," Mr. Chen said, ignoring the fact that the kids were sleeping.
"Yes, let's go before anyone-" Clouse's monotoned voice paused when he felt something tug on his pant leg. He looked down and was surprised to see Zane, keeping a grip on the fabric and looking like he was ready to scream. Mr. Chen and Clouse froze for a second.
"That little brat," Mr. Chen yelled, ready to kick the small child. Zane let go of Clouse's pant leg and grabbed Mr. Chen's foot as it swung at him, and Zane let out the most blood-curdling scream anyone ever heard. It sounded like a mix of a demon and a high pitched siren. Mr. Chen and Clouse covered their ears with Mr. Chen falling to the floor, and Clouse running outside. Zane let go of Mr. Chen's leg and ran after Clouse. The monotoned man thought he had an advantage; Zane was a two-year-old baby, his body was fragile, his legs were short, and Clouse was an adult.
Clouse ran to the nearby docks where the boat and Mr.- no, Master Chen's army was waiting for him. Clouse climbed aboard the ship and threw the unconscious child into the arms of another man.
"Here's another one, ready for work. Master Chen needs us to go now," Clouse said with little explanation. Instead of the other men moving around the ship, they stood frozen in fear. Literally frozen. Ice covered the ground, sticking their feet to the deck, yet the ice stayed away from the child Clouse brought with him. Clouse looked behind him, and his eyes widened with shock. Giant chunks of sharp ice were surrounding the boat and everyone inside, on water and land. Clouse noticed a gap through the ice, and he saw the tiny baby known as Zane standing in front of him. Zane, for the first time in his life, spoke. His voice was tiny and adorable, but also, angry and determined. Close could barely decode what the two-year-old was saying.
"Give. Him. Back," Clouse heard. "Awe of dem!" Clouse growled. How did he know about the others? Clouse grabbed a sword from another nearby man. He angrily stormed to the baby and held the sword high above Zane's head. Zane shoved his hand in the air, and everything went black.
When Zane screamed, people around the village heard and called the police, too tired to deal with whatever was wrong this time, yet they still followed the officers to Mr. Chen's Orphanage for Young Children. The police chief was confused when he saw a man running from a baby, who, surprisingly, ran really fast for a baby. The police and the villagers followed the small baby and witnessed Zane summon pure ice from his hands and create a spikey wall of ice around a boat and blast ice in a grown man's face. It took a while for everyone to understand what was going on, and what a two-year-old baby just did.
