Chapter 18

It's Thursday morning and Dave has called the Chipmunks down for breakfast. He has the TV on the news.

As the boys are eating, they hear the news anchor say, "In other local news, police still have no leads on the 3 horrific murders that have occurred in less than two weeks. Hopefully soon, police will get a lead, and the killer of Caroline Stanley, Ruth Clapton, and Mark Green will be brought to justice."

"We already know who did it. It was Freddy Krueger," Alvin murmured.

Simon then says, "True, but who will believe us? Most people will say that we're crazy or that it's impossible he did it since he's dead."

"Let's not forget Derek and Bobby keep accusing you of having an invention that brings Freddy into people's dreams," Theodore says to Simon.

"I know. They obviously don't believe Freddy is doing this on his own," Simon replies.

Dave says, "I know you don't have any machines that could bring this Krueger monster into people's dreams. Obviously those bullies don't."

"Thanks Dave," Simon responds.

Dave then looks at the clock and says, "You boys need to finish breakfast so we can go, otherwise you'll be late for school."

After the boys are dropped off at the school, they meet up with the Chipettes. They notice Brittany having trouble keeping her eyes open.

"Did Krueger come after you last night Brittany?", Alvin asked.

"Yes he did. He even had his victims come after me as well. It was terrible!", Brittany answers.

"You mean Caroline, Ruth, and Mark?", Alvin asks.

"Yes," Brittany responds.

Nathan joins the group and they go into the school. He quickly notices Brittany looking tired.

"Freddy attacked you last night, didn't he?", Nathan asks Brittany.

"He sure did and it was horrible," Brittany says.

Unfortunately for the group, Derek and Bobby come over to them and they are baring cuts on their arms and faces.

Derek says, "That Krueger creep came after both of us last night. Why don't you tell that geeky wimp to turn off what machine he is using to bring this guy into our dreams?"

Alvin says, "Simon doesn't have anything to do with these events you idiot! When will you and Bobby get that through your heads?"

Eleanor adds, "Yeah, Simon wouldn't do anything like this, even to you!"

"Stop denying it! We know that someone else was killed! Stuff like this usually doesn't happen normally!", Bobby exclaims.

Derek adds, "You're all wussies that probably want to make yourselves look mean and tough by killing people!" He then turns to Simon and says, "Especially a nerd like you!" He then shoves Simon.

Nathan then shoves Derek and says, "Knock it off! They have no reason to kill people!"

Bobby gets in Nathan's face and says, "You're just another wimp like them."

Nathan responds, "Oh, and you aren't? You and your friend probably are wimps inside and take it out on them and other students."

"How about we show you we're for real?", Bobby asks angrily.

Hearing the commotion, Principal Smith comes over to break up the impending fight.

"Stop this nonsense right now! I already said I don't want any fighting. Derek, Bobby, go to class now," the principal says sternly.

The two bullies walk away to class. Principal Smith turns to Nathan and says, "Same to you. If I see you fighting, there will be consequences."

"Yes sir, but they were harassing the Chipmunks and Chipettes," Nathan responds.

"I know they're bullies but I still don't want any fighting. Now go to class," Principal Smith says before going toward his office.

"It's getting close to class time anyway, so we better go," Nathan says.

Alvin responds, "Alright, see you at lunch."

Later on after math class, Mrs. Shepherd calls the boys over to talk to them.

"I heard you boys and Nathan kind of got into it with Bobby and Derek. What was that about?", she said.

"They keep accusing Simon of having something to do with the murders that have been happening lately and Theodore and I of helping him and covering for him," Alvin replies.

"They also keep saying Simon has something to do with the nightmares that we and other people have been experiencing as well," Theodore adds.

Mrs. Shepherd responds, "Well somebody is killing students, but I don't think it's one of you. As for the nightmares, they're just dreams, they are nothing to worry about."

"That somebody that's killing people is Freddy Krueger," Alvin says.

"I said before, he can't be the one doing it because he's dead. I know there is definitely a psycho on the loose killing people though," Mrs. Shepherd replies.

As the boys walk out of the classroom, Alvin thinks, "If you only knew."

Later on at lunch, Alvin is talking with Brittany about Freddy's attack on her.

"His victims sang that rhyme as they came after me. Freddy was about to put me with them by killing me. I couldn't go back to sleep," Brittany explains.

"I can definitely understand that, especially with cut up zombies in the dream along with Freddy," Alvin says.

Nathan, who is at the group's table says, "How much more are we going to have to deal with him? It's getting tougher to live while this Krueger creep roams around in our dreams."

Simon responds, "I wish I knew." He then says, "Thanks for helping us against Derek and Bobby."

Nathan responds, "No problem. I'm just helping you out to make up for when I used to be a bully."

"We greatly appreciate it," Theodore says.

Jeanette then asks Nathan, "How are those cuts you got from Freddy doing?"

"They're healing up," Nathan answers.

"Good thing," Jeanette says.

"So far, we're fortunate enough to get away from Freddy with just cuts, but Mark, Caroline, and Ruth weren't so fortunate. I hope we end this stuff soon," Eleanor says.

The rest of the school day goes by without further incident.

At home, the Seville boys relax after the school day by watching TV. Dave says, "I heard that there is going to be a pretty bad storm tonight. I hope it won't scare you."

Alvin says, "A bad storm doesn't scare me, but it might scare Simon and Theodore." Alvin's brothers glare at him before rolling their eyes.

Simon then responds, "Oh, you don't get scared of storms? Yeah, right. You used to get scared of storms."

Alvin replies confidently, "When I was younger, but not anymore!"

Simon turns away, rolls his eyes and says to himself, "Oh, brother. That Alvin."

At the Miller house, Ms. Miller lets the Chipettes know about the storm coming that night.

"I hope it doesn't damage our house," Eleanor says.

"It's going to be a pretty bad storm, but nothing we haven't seen before," Ms. Miller says assuringly.

"We'll also have to worry about Freddy Krueger as well," Brittany states.

"I know, it will be difficult, but we'll get through it," Ms. Miller says.

At the Seville house, after the boys study more for the final exams and finish what homework they have, they come and eat dinner.

"Nathan almost got into it today with Derek and Bobby," Simon claims.

"What was it about?", Dave asks.

"They accused us again of having something to do with Freddy and Derek shoved me," Simon answers.

"Those two have been bullying you boys and the Chipettes all year, enough is enough. Even though Nathan sticks up for you, it still isn't right," Dave says.

Just as Dave finishes his statement, there's a loud rumble of thunder and it starts to rain steadily.

"Looks like the storm is here," Dave says.

"Yep," Alvin says.

"Anyway, something needs to be done about those bullies," Dave states as lightning flashes in the sky outside followed by thunder.

"You're right, but they are a pretty small problem compared to Freddy Krueger," Alvin says.

"True, but those boys are still a problem," Dave replies.

At the Miller house, the girls have studied and finished what homework they had and are having dinner.

"I have had it with Bobby and Derek! They keep saying we're somehow responsible for Freddy's attacks!", Brittany exclaims.

"I know it can be frustrating dear, but they clearly don't think Freddy is an organic thing," Ms. Miller says.

"I know, but after Derek pushed Simon today, it was the straw that broke the camel's back for me," Brittany replies.

"Same here," Eleanor says.

The girls and Ms. Miller jumped as there's a bright flash of lightning followed by a very loud crack of thunder. The rain then increases in intensity.

"The storm is getting worse, I hope our power doesn't get knocked out," Jeanette says.

"I hope so too Jeanette," Ms. Miller responds.

At the Seville house, after the boys watch TV for a while, it's time for bed. As Dave tucks the boys in for the night, Theodore says, "The storm is pretty bad. I hope the power doesn't go out."

Dave replies, "I hope so too. Even if it does go out, we'll be fine. It would just be an inconvenience for us."

"Plus I hope Freddy doesn't pay us a visit tonight," Theodore adds.

"I know Krueger is scary, but you and your brothers need sleep," Dave says.

"We'll try to get some sleep, but it won't be easy, especially with this storm added on to it," Alvin says.

"At least get a bit of sleep. Goodnight boys," Dave says.

"Goodnight Dave," the Chipmunks respond.

At the Miller house, the Chipettes have also been put to bed.

"Goodnight girls," Ms. Miller says.

"Goodnight Ms. Miller," the girls say.

Back at the Seville house the boys, after a little struggle to stay awake due to their fears about Freddy, do fall asleep.

Later on, Simon is startled awake by a loud crash outside. He can't see from the bedroom window so he goes out into the pouring rain and finds a downed tree. Simon goes to the tree and sees that it wasn't blown over, it was cut.

"Why would someone cut down a tree this late at night and in this weather?", Simon asked himself.

He then hears an evil chuckle behind him and turns around only to see Freddy Krueger smiling evilly at him.

"Krueger!", Simon exclaims.

"Well it ain't Paul Bunyan!", Freddy says before letting out an evil laugh.

Simon runs for the door but Freddy points with one of his knives and makes the door close and lock. Simon desperately turns the knob, but quickly realizes that the door is locked.

Freddy quickly catches up to Simon and tries to slash him, but Simon dodges the swipe and runs down the street with Freddy not too far behind.

Simon stops at a tree to catch his breath and sees Krueger is no longer behind him.

"Help! Somebody help me!", Simon screams out.

Freddy suddenly appears by his side and throws him to the ground, then up against the nearby house. Freddy then grabs Simon by the throat and laughs a chilling raspy laugh.

"I'm the only help you've got Simon. I'll help you sleep...forever!", Freddy evilly says as he raises his gloved hand.

"Sweet dreams," Freddy rasps before bringing his knives down.

Simon wakes up screaming in his bed. He quickly realizes it was a nightmare.

Dave, hearing the scream, runs to the boys' bedroom.

"Who screamed?", Dave asks quickly.

"I did," Simon answers.

"It was Freddy, wasn't it?", Alvin says to his nerdy brother.

"Yes it unfortunately was," Simon replies.

"Are you cut?", Dave asks with concern. "No it doesn't look like it, but Freddy almost got me again," Simon says.

"It's over now, you're safe," Dave says as he hugs Simon to comfort him.

After a bit, Dave goes back to the door and says, "Simon, you can sleep with me if you want."

Simon replies, "Thanks but I'll stay here."

"Okay, but you're more than welcome to come to my room if you change your mind. Goodnight again boys," Dave says.

"Goodnight Dave," the Chipmunks respond.

Alvin and Theodore are able to sleep, but Simon can't sleep comfortably for the rest of the night.

At the Miller house, there is a knock at the door. Jeanette goes down to answer it, but when she opens the door, nobody is there.

"That's weird," Jeanette says to herself. Just as she is closing the door she hears the voice of a little girl shout, "Help me!"

"Who's there?", Jeanette says. She then sees a small, covered figure run to the neighboring house. She then follows the figure in the heavy rain and asks, "Where are you going? Do you need help?"

The small figure stops under the roof and crouches down. Jeanette goes to the figure and says, "Don't be afraid. I can help you."

The figure says, "Yes, you can help me," before lifting off the hood and revealing that it was Freddy. He then says, "You can help me by dying by my hand," before laughing evilly.

Jeanette screams and backs away from Freddy. To her horror, she sees the rain turn to blood and screams again and runs.

Jeanette tries to get back in the house, but the door is locked. Freddy appears by her side and says, "It's about to be your blood that will rain!"

Jeanette runs again, but as she steps in a blood puddle, it pulls her down. She lands on a hard floor and sees she's in the boiler room again.

She looks around at the pipes as they let out bursts of steam and says loudly, "Where are you, Krueger?"

Freddy appears and grabs her by her nightgown with his left hand and lets out another evil laugh.

"I'm right here, and you're about to join me in the grave," Freddy snarls as he gets in Jeanette's face. Jeanette slaps Freddy's hand and is able to free herself and backs up in fear.

"Why can't you just leave us alone you monster?!", Jeanette yells.

Freddy rasps, "What fun would that be? It wouldn't be very fun for me."

"You're a sick twisted murderer!", Jeanette shouts.

"Yes, and you're about to die!", Freddy says as he raises his right hand. Jeanette tries to turn around to run, but trips over her feet.

"Meet the eternal sleep!", Freddy says before laughing again and goes to slash Jeanette.

Jeanette wakes up in her bed screaming in terror. Brittany and Eleanor are woken up by the scream.

"Was it Freddy again?", Eleanor asks her nerdy sister.

"Yes, he almost killed me," Jeanette answers.

Ms. Miller runs into the room and asks, "Who screamed?"

"Me," Jeanette says.

"What happened dear? Was it that creep Freddy Krueger again?", Ms. Miller asks with concern.

"Yes. He almost got me. I'm not sure how much more of this I can take," Jeanette responds.

"I know, he has to be stopped one way or another," Ms. Miller says as she sits on Jeanette's bed to comfort her.

Ms. Miller after a few minutes, gets up from the bed and goes to the door. "I know you're scared, but at least try to get some sleep because you have school tomorrow," she says to Jeanette.

"I'll try to sleep, but it won't be easy," Jeanette says back.

"Goodnight again dears. Try to sleep some," Ms. Miller says to the girls.

"Goodnight again Ms. Miller," the girls say to their mother figure. Brittany and Eleanor are able to get back to sleep, but Jeanette is unable to sleep comfortably for the rest of the night.
