Chapter 23
It's Wednesday morning and the Chipmunks have gotten up for breakfast. Dave has the TV on the news as he joins the boys at the table.
On the TV, the news anchor says, "In other local news, a boy named Bobby Woods was brutally slashed to death last night. The pattern is identical to the murders of Ruth Clapton, Caroline Stanley, and Mark Green, so it appears the mysterious killer has struck again."
Alvin gasps at hearing this and says, "Bobby's dead? I know it was Freddy Krueger that did it! Freddy is back!"
"Wasn't Bobby one of the boys who bullied other kids at school?", Dave asks.
"Yes, he was. He didn't deserve this though," Simon says.
"I wonder what Derek is thinking since Bobby is dead," Theodore says.
"Who knows what he's thinking right now. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to blame us for Bobby's death," Alvin claims.
"Of course if he did try to blame you guys, he'd be dead wrong," Dave says.
"That's an interesting way to put it Dave: dead wrong," Alvin replies.
Alvin then adds, "Simon thinks it would be a good idea to record him with a camcorder if he has an episode of that strange behavior again. Could I borrow the camcorder?"
"I guess, but don't do anything dumb that might break it because it's expensive," Dave replies.
Later at the school, the boys meet with the Chipettes and are pleasantly surprised to see Nathan joining them.
"Looks like you're feeling better," Theodore says to Nathan.
"I definitely am. I just had a virus that made me sick," Nathan responds. He then looks at Simon and says, "I see you're better too. I heard you were sick as well."
"I was. Thankfully I'm better now, but it appears Freddy Krueger has killed again," Simon says.
"Yes unfortunately. I also heard that Bobby was the victim last night," Nathan responds.
The group walks toward the school and sees Derek sitting on the ground with his head down.
"I'm sorry this happened to Bobby," Jeanette says to Derek.
Derek looks up and the group sees his eyes red and wet with tears.
"Before you say anything about us having something to do with Bobby's death, we had nothing to do with it," Brittany immediately says.
"Maybe I was wrong, but that doesn't change the fact that my friend is gone," Derek says sadly. He then looks down again and sobs, "I don't know what I'm going to do."
"If you're going to miss him so much, why don't you find a way to join him?", Simon asked coldly.
The group gasps at Simon's comment and Jeanette says, "Simon! He lost his friend! How could you be so heartless? What is going on with you?"
Simon, ignoring Jeanette, says to Derek with a sinister smirk, "I know your friend is going to be worm food after a while. A fitting fate for a piece of garbage like him who, like you, bullied kids smaller than him just to make himself feel good knowing that he, also like you, was a whiny scared brat."
Derek stands up, gets in Simon's face and says, "I'll pound your face in right now! Bobby was my friend and you're talking this way about him, you sick freak!"
Simon, not flinching, says with the sinister smirk still on his face, "You want to try it? I'll do even worse to you than what I did to him yesterday."
Alvin, Brittany, and Jeanette get in between Simon and Derek to separate them. Simon then shuts his eyes tightly for a few seconds and opens them back up and has a confused look on his face.
"What's going on here?", Simon asks.
"Don't play dumb! You were just insulting my friend! Another word out of you like that about Bobby, and you're dead meat!", Derek says angrily.
"What did I say?", Simon asks in a confused way.
"You know what you said! Don't play stupid with me! You're lucky I don't pound you right now since there are other people around, but trust me, I will make you wish you were never born if another word like what you said about Bobby comes out of your mouth!", Derek yells before storming off into the school.
"Simon! What has gotten into you lately?", Brittany says.
"What happened? What did I say to get Derek so angry?", Simon asked.
"You said Bobby was going to be food for worms and that he and Derek were both whiny scared brats," Alvin says.
Simon gasps and says, "I said that to him? Oh no, it must have happened again."
"What must have happened?", Nathan asks.
"Ever since Simon had a dream about Freddy Krueger liquefying himself and going into his arm, he has had episodes like this that he doesn't remember," Alvin answers.
"That's strange. He was acting like a totally different person," Nathan says.
"That's what they've told me, but I honestly don't remember a thing," Simon claims.
"When you were like that, I was scared," Jeanette says.
"Same with me and Theodore," Eleanor adds.
"I don't blame you," Simon says. He then turns to Alvin and says, "The next time that happens, you need to try to record it so I can see it."
"I hope I'll be able to record it next time because I just froze when you were in that confrontation with Derek," Alvin says.
"That's understandable because I probably would've reacted the same way if I saw someone acting that way when they normally wouldn't," Simon claims.
Later in math class, the boys and the rest of the class are practicing various math problems for the upcoming math exam.
Just as class ends for the day, Mrs. Shepherd says, "We'll practice more tomorrow and the exam will be on Friday, so be prepared for the test."
Alvin accidentally drops his math book and bends down to pick it up. Simon doesn't notice and trips over him and stumbles headfirst into the trash can.
The other students burst out laughing when Simon got up with the trash can still on his head. Alvin, while kind of snickering due to Simon having the trash can on his head, says, "Sorry. I didn't mean it. I dropped my book and went to get it."
Mrs. Shepherd says to the other students, "It's not funny." She then looks at Alvin and says, "Alvin, good job apologizing to your brother."
"Thanks. I didn't mean to do that," Alvin says.
Simon, who had removed the trash can from his head, followed Alvin out of the classroom. He then suddenly grabbed Alvin by his shirt and threw him against the wall.
"Simon what are you doing? I told you I didn't mean for that to happen," Alvin cries.
Simon pins Alvin against the wall and looks at him with a cold vicious look in his eyes.
"You want to trash me? I'll trash you before that happens," Simon says viciously before his face contorts into a wicked smile.
"Simon knock it off!", Alvin says with fear in his voice.
"Who's laughing now, brother?", Simon snarls before chuckling evilly.
Mrs. Shepherd notices what's going on and says, "Simon stop it right now! It was clearly an accident, so let go of him!"
Simon then shuts his eyes tightly, then opens them and sees that he is pinning Alvin against the wall. He then gasps and releases Alvin from the wall.
"Simon, what is your problem?", Mrs. Shepherd asks with her hands on her hips.
"I don't remember a thing. I'm sorry about this," Simon quickly says before running down the hall.
"Simon has been acting strange lately and nobody knows why," Alvin says.
"Whatever is going on with him, please figure it out," Mrs. Shepherd responds.
Later in the day, the boys go to history class and take their history exam. Brittany also takes her drama exam.
Later at lunch after the remembrance ceremony for Bobby, the Chipmunks and Chipettes talk about the exams and Simon's dark behavior with Nathan.
"I think we did well on the history test," Alvin says.
"That's because we studied really well for our tests. That's what studying does for you," Simon says.
"I know. I'm also worried about what is going on with you Simon. It's actually scary," Alvin claims.
"I agree. I had never seen you act that way before," Nathan says.
"We got through Theodore's time as a werewolf, I'm sure we'll get through this as well," Jeanette says as she goes over to Simon and hugs him.
"We'll get through this together," Jeanette adds.
"Nice that you care about me," Simon says as he looks at Jeanette.
"Why wouldn't I? You're my friend," Jeanette said.
Simon then grabs Jeanette's face affectionately and kisses her in a sloppy manner.
"Simon, why'd you do that?", Jeanette asks in a surprised way.
"It's my way of showing I care," Simon says before he gets a sinister smile on his face and flickers his tongue at Jeanette, then grabs her hair.
"Simon let go!", Jeanette exclaims.
Alvin, seeing his chance, grabs the camcorder from his backpack and starts recording.
"I thought you cared," Simon says in a taunting manner.
"I do, but not when you're like this. Let go now!", Jeanette says.
"Is that fear I smell on you? I want to get a taste," Simon sneers before licking Jeanette on the face.
"Ew! Stop it Simon!", Jeanette exclaims.
"It is fear that I smelled on you. It tastes great," Simon says darkly.
"Simon no!", Jeanette says.
"Simon, stop it! You're going to hurt her!", Theodore says frantically.
"You're beautiful eyes say no no, but my mouth says yes yes," Simon says darkly before flickering his tongue again and going in for another kiss.
"Stop it right now!", Brittany says angrily.
"Stay out of it! This is between me and her," Simon snarls.
"Simon, cut it out!", Alvin and Eleanor both say at the same time.
Simon again shuts his eyes tightly for a few seconds, then opens them to see Jeanette looking at him fearfully. He gasps and quickly lets her go.
"Simon, what was that?!", Jeanette asks in an outraged way.
"I-I-I don't know! I don't know what that was!", Simon says defensively. He looks at Alvin and sees him end a recording.
"Oh no, it must have happened again," Simon says grimly.
"I think it did," Theodore says in agreement.
"Jeanette, I'm so sorry. That wasn't me, that was something else," Simon says.
"It didn't look like you in the eyes. You had a horrible evil look in your eyes that I never saw before," Jeanette explains.
"What is happening to me?", Simon asks the others before breaking down in tears.
Jeanette, Alvin, and Theodore all hug Simon as he cries. Nathan then says, "Whatever it is, I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out Freddy Krueger is behind it since Simon had that dream about Freddy going into a cut on his arm."
"That's what we're afraid of," Theodore says sadly.
The rest of the school day goes by smoothly for the boys and they also take another exam.
Later at the Seville house, Alvin shows the recording he took at lunch to Simon and Dave.
After the recording ends, Simon sadly asks, "I did that to her?"
Alvin answers, "Yes you did." Dave then says, "What is going on with you, Simon? You never acted like this before."
"I know. That's what's frustrating," Simon says as he looks at the floor.
Dave then says, "I hope this ends soon."
"We all do," Theodore chimes in.
At the Miller house, the girls tell Ms. Miller about their day, which included seeing Simon's strange behavior.
"Whatever is going on with Simon, it has to stop," Ms. Miller says.
"We know, but how do we stop it? Could it have something to do with Freddy Krueger?", Eleanor asks.
"Seems like this started after Simon had that dream, so maybe it's possible," Jeanette replies.
"If it is Krueger, he's now even worse," Brittany says.
Later on, back at the Seville house, the boys do extra studying for their remaining exams to take their minds off of the strange day they had.
"Boys, dinner!", Dave calls from downstairs.
"Oh good!", Theodore chirps happily. He and his brothers go down to have dinner. Dave has made meatloaf for dinner.
A few minutes later, the Chipmunks and Dave are eating when Dave asks the boys about their exams.
"They went pretty well," Alvin says.
"Hopefully we all did well on the tests we've taken so far," Theodore says.
"I'm sure you boys did well since you studied pretty frequently," Dave assures the boys.
"I'd be very confident right now about the exams, but it's hard because I still feel bad about what I did to Jeanette," Simon says.
"Jeanette understands that you weren't fully yourself," Alvin says.
"I know, but what if I hurt her or something even worse?", Simon says.
"That's understandable," Dave says. He then continues, "I know you're worried about what has been going on with your behavior, but you also need to think about your remaining exams."
"That's very true," Simon replies.
At the Miller house, the girls and Ms. Miller are having dinner.
"I can't believe all that has happened lately with Simon. I know it has to be awful for him," Ms. Miller says.
"I agree. We have to know what's going on with Simon and if Freddy Krueger is responsible," Eleanor says.
"That's definitely the only way we can truly help Simon," Jeanette adds.
"If this is Freddy Krueger's doing, he is absolutely sick! He's killed 4 students at our school and now he possibly is behind Simon acting like a deranged psychopath," Brittany says.
"I just hope Simon doesn't start acting even worse after a while," Jeanette says.
Later at the Seville house, after the boys watch some TV for a while, it's bedtime for them. Dave tucks the boys in for the night.
"Goodnight boys," Dave says.
The Chipmunks respond, "Goodnight Dave." Dave then turns out the light and goes to bed.
At the Miller house, the same is going on with the Chipettes.
"Sweet dreams girls," Ms. Miller says.
"Goodnight Ms. Miller," the girls say as Ms. Miller turns out the light.
A few hours later at the Seville house, Simon suddenly gets up and goes over to Alvin's bed.
"Alvin. Alvin, wake up," Simon says.
Alvin moans and says, "What is it? Do you know what time it is?"
"I know, but this can't wait," Simon replies.
"Okay out with it. What do you have to say?", Alvin says.
"I need to apologize for today," Simon claims.
"You already did that with Jeanette," Alvin says.
"I know, but this is about you," Simon says.
"You mean when you pinned me against the wall and got in my face?", Alvin asks.
"Yes, it's about that," Simon answers.
"I've already forgiven you for that, now go back to sleep," Alvin says.
"Good to know because we are brothers. Brothers fight, but are still family; just like we are still family," Simon says.
Alvin sighs and says, "Okay, now please go back to bed."
Simon then says, "We're bonded by blood. We love each other no matter what."
Alvin turns to look at Simon and asks, "What are you getting at?"
Simon then grabs Alvin by the throat and starts viciously choking him.
"S-S-Simon, what are you doing?", Alvin chokes out.
He watches in horror as an evil smile comes across Simon's face and a look of pure hatred and evil appears in Simon's eyes.
"This is my way of loving you, and I love you to death!", Simon says evilly.
Alvin tries to break Simon's grip around his throat, but the grip is unusually strong and Simon leans toward him.
"Is my love too much to take? Don't get too choked up now!", Simon says before laughing evilly.
Theodore, hearing Alvin choking and Simon laughing looks up and is horrified to see Simon choking Alvin. He runs over and tries to pull Simon off of Alvin and cries out, "What are you doing?! Stop, you're going to kill him!"
Simon flings Theodore off of him and snarls, "This doesn't concern you! It's between him and I."
Theodore, now completely terrified, runs out of the room screaming for Dave.
Meanwhile, Alvin is thrashing and kicking as Simon continues to strangle him. Simon then starts laughing an evil laugh that is growing in volume.
Dave and Theodore run to the room and Dave can't believe what he is seeing.
"Simon! Simon, stop right now!", Dave yells out.
Simon then closes his eyes tightly and opens them after a few seconds. He looks down and can't believe what he is doing. He gasps and lets go of Alvin's throat.
Alvin gasps, coughs, and sputters trying to get his breath back. He rubs his throat and says, "Simon, what's wrong with you? You could've killed me! Everything was going dark!"
Simon freezes in place, looks at his hands in horror, and drops to his knees.
"What's going on with me? I can't believe I was doing something like that!", Simon stammers out.
"Looks like it happened again Simon," Dave says glumly.
"It wasn't me, I swear Dave!", Simon exclaims.
"It's true! What I saw in those eyes wasn't Simon, it was straight up pure evil!", Alvin says.
Dave goes over to Simon as he breaks down crying.
"Normally I would punish you for something like this, but since I saw proof that you weren't you in that video, I can't bring myself to do it," Dave says as he comes down to Simon's level.
"What can I do? I don't remember doing these things! I can't control it!", Simon cries out while tears stream down his face. Dave then hugs Simon comfortingly and lets Simon's tears of fear and regret fall onto his nightshirt.
"I'm not sure," Dave says sadly. Dave stays with Simon until he calms down and stops crying.
"I know you weren't aware of what you were doing, but it's over now," Dave says soothingly.
"I hope it's over for the night," Alvin says.
"I hope so too," Simon says in agreement.
"Try to go back to sleep. You have school tomorrow," Dave says.
"We'll try," Theodore says.
"Goodnight again boys," Dave says.
"Goodnight again Dave," the boys say back.
Alvin and Theodore are able to fall back asleep after a while, but Simon is too freaked out to sleep for the rest of the night.
What is causing Simon to act so dark? Could it be Freddy Krueger? Please review!
