Warnings for this chapter: none
"Hello class." A short man with orange hair walks into the classroom. "I'd like to know why there is a giant hole in the wall across from the door."
"An experiment."
"My experiment!" Jin and Mei answer at the same time. The man stays still, the yellow helmet on his head obscuring his eyes.
"An experiment," The man states, making Jin nod her head.
"Hatsume-san wanted to test if the door was reinforced. I had interrupted the experiment by opening the door," She explains dully.
"...my name is Majima Higari and I am your homeroom teacher. I'm also the teacher in charge of UA's Costume Development Studio," Higari introduces himself, taking out a remote and pressing a button.
The left wall suddenly pulls out and reveals 20 lockers. "In each locker is a coverall. That is what you'll be wearing any time you enter any workshop. Please take one and get dressed before heading to the workshops."
"Um... Majima-Sensei, what about the orientation?" A 15 year old girl with black hair styled in a pixie cut, pale skin, and large blue eyes asks with her hand raised.
"Teachers have mostly free reign in how they teach their classes. UA is lax in keeping classes uniform," Higari answers patiently. Jin blinks before standing up. She walks over to the lockers and opens the one with her name on it. Mei is quick to follow after her.
Jin stops in front of Higari and stares up at him, a dull spark in her eyes. "The workshops are where the entrance exams were, yes?"
"Yes. If anyone touches anything before I can tell you the safety precautions and rules, I will expel you immediately," Higari says before Jin starts to walk out of the classroom. She ignores the loud exclamations and whispers from her class.
"Hey, Jin-chan! Can I call you Jin-chan? Can you take a look at this?" Mei asks, thrusting a weird contraption in the blonde's hands. Jin grabs the contraption and watches blankly as it breaks in her hand.
"Use steel instead of tungsten. And adding a centimeter should keep the strain off this band," Jin says, pointing to a broken metal band that had connected two pieces. Mei grins brightly and takes the broken contraption out of her hands.
"Thanks Jin-chan!"
"Mm."
Jin takes off the top part of her coveralls and ties the sleeves around her waist. It was a safety hazard to have sleeves three inches past her fingertips after all. She tightens her ponytail before walking out of the female locker room.
"Jin-chan! What do you think of this?" Jin blinks once when a worn and slightly singed journal appears in front of her face. She grabs the journal and glances over the pages. It was a rough sketch and blueprint for a machine companion designed to be a defense.
Jin trusts Mei enough to not let her run into anything or anyone as she goes over the measurements and notes. "How is the shield going to work?"
"It'll be created purely from solar power to make a synthetic solar light shield that can withstand one ton of brute force! It saves all solar power in multiple batteries and will be able to create four shields from one battery!" Mei exclaims, pulling Jin to the side before she runs into a wall when they turn a corner. Jin hums dully, turning the journal upside-down to read something that was written that way.
"Solar power isn't efficient enough and will lead to the robot overheating. Wind power might be your best bet if you're trying to stay green," Jin eventually answers and snaps the journal close before handing it back. Mei smiles and takes the journal, shrugging her shoulders.
"That's true!" Mei opens the journal and starts writing furiously on a clean page. "But with the synthetic solar light, I'll need to create completely new calculations on how to transform the wind power to it."
"You need to figure out how to even create synthetic solar light first. If that's what you're going to call it," The blonde answers dully. She taps Mei's arm when they enter the entrance to the workshops. Mei looks up and grins maniacally. She stuffs her notebook into her coveralls before racing towards the closest workshop.
"Majima-sensei is serious about expelling anyone who enters the workshops without listening to the safety lecture." Jin grabs her arm before she could enter it. "I'm excited too, but I really don't want you to be expelled."
She glances at the entrance and sees a few of her new classmates walk in before glancing back at Mei when she starts to fidget.
"We'll be able to enter soon. The safety precautions are a logical thing to learn about," Jin points out quietly. It was the right thing to say, because it slightly eased Mei's fidgeting.
"Akiho-kun!" A bright voice makes the dull girl turn her head. A tall 15 year old boy with red hair, black eyes, and pale skin marked with strange black markings and large red horns growing out from his forehead ran over with a bright smile. Jin blinks once before facing her body towards her classmate.
"...hello," Jin greets blandly. The boy's smile falters slightly and he tilts his head in slight confusion.
His smile comes back in full force. "My name's Nomura Kazutoshi! I wanted to say that your hair is beautiful!"
"...thank you..." Jin blinks once at how awkwardly dull her voice sounded. "Nomura-kun..."
Jin stays quiet for an awkward moment before a grimace appears on her face as she tries to smile. "I like your horns. They're cool."
"He must be a hybrid of some–"
"–aybe his Quirk? Or maybe his–"
"He has sharp teeth. I wonder–"
"He must terrify a lot of people. Appearances like his aren't that accepted–"
Jin furrows her eyebrows slightly and forces the thoughts away from her mind. She blinks again when she sees an even brighter smile on Kazutoshi's face.
"Really? Oh wow! No one's ever complimented them! Aren't they pretty? I always try to keep them healthy!" Kazutoshi rambles excitedly. Jin nods her head before Higari enters after the rest of the class. She watches as their teacher looks around and nods in satisfaction when he sees that everyone followed his instructions.
"Alright. Now that we're all here, we can begin the lecture." Jin feels the apprehension, excitement, and impatience come off of Mei in waves. Her eye twitches at the sudden headache that starts to form as the emotions from the rest of her classmates start to explode out.
"I should talk with Recovery Girl about keeping migraine medication..."
Hey! Hope you all like the new chapter! I am so sorry for not updating any sooner. I had a bit of writer's block (again, I know) but hopefully it's solved now that I got through this chapter.
Also, everyone in Jin's class will be OCs, except for Mei obviously. There hasn't been any other students revealed to be a part of the class in canon, so I'll be making up 18 students... yay...
I hope you all are enjoying the story so far! Bye.
