Chapter rated M for sensitive content. Please be advised there is a small passage in this chapter dealing with past trauma and abuse. I wrote the situation as delicate as possible and like I said, it's only mentioned in passing.
Between this and Underneath A Sky Full of Stars, I will be switching back and forth between updating both stories. Essentially, expect updates to take longer, hopefully only between 2-3 weeks. I do not want to push out a story in a rush and it be crap, hence updates taking longer now.
I would rather take longer and have a quality story than me writing a story that I'm not happy with and disappointing you guys.

would help me eliminate having to work my second job so I can dedicate more time to writing Sess Rin content. Like I said it's just an idea, so I'll see. Any input is greatly appreciated!
Part Four
Sesshomaru had been out walking in the city, coming from his father's office when he stopped dead in his tracks at her scent.
Taking a deep inhale, he located her scent on the wind. He quickly ducked behind an alley and took the sky, flying as quickly as he could to where her scent was.
Sesshomaru now only a few blocks from where her heavenly scent was calling him, dropped to his feet and took a deep inhale.
There.
Her scent, her smell was exquisite. She had an earthy but fruity smell to her.
The last time he had scented her physically she was already dead, and her scent had changed.
This time, her scent was….vibrant.
Her scent pulling him in, drawing him close.
Her scent flaming his cold heart to life.
Sesshomaru closed his eyes, drawing her scent into his core, finding the comfort only a mate could bring.
He would finally, finally have his mate.
He needed to find her, now.
Sesshomaru stepped out from the building he was hiding behind and started off in the direction her scent was coming from.
After walking for about 15 minutes, Sesshomaru found her.
His breath stopped, his body stilling at her presence. Everything came to a complete stop, everything a dead silence. All Sesshomaru could hear was his own heart thumping in his chest. He could feel every pore of his body finding comfort at his mate being so close.
She was beautiful.
She was standing by a large water fountain, letting the water splash up and cool her. Her lithe body covered in thin strapped polka-dot maroon dress. She then turned and sat down, fanning herself.
Sesshomaru was enraptured by her beauty. When he had first seen her over 550 years ago, all warmth was gone from her. She was nothing but a shell of who she was.
Now here she sat, her long chestnut hair swaying in the breeze, her petite legs crossed at the ankles, her breasts filling out her dress modestly.
She was everything he remembered but alive.
She looked up in his direction and a smile broke out on her beautiful face.
A smile so beautiful that it could stop a raging war.
A smile so bright that it could rival the sun in intensity.
'Does she recognize me?' Sesshomaru thought to himself as his mate smiled at him.
Sesshomaru's admiration of his future mate was soon broken though when a human male walked up from behind him to sit next to her, handing her a drink and then wrapping his arm around her waist.
"She will be with another when your paths cross but the other can simply be removed with coaxing."
Sesshomaru growled.
The old seer's words returned to his mind.
He had waited 550 years. He would not be denied his mate.
He continued watching the couple as they spent the next several minutes sitting and then it appeared they decided to leave. The human stood up and she followed, they laced their hands together and started walking away.
Sesshomaru also followed.
Sesshomaru reached into his pocket and took out his cell, quickly texting a message to his father:
Father, I've found my mate. She is with the other man like the old seer said she would be. We will need to find a way to remove him from her life.
Sesshomaru continued following them until it appeared that they reached her apartment building. He stood far enough away that they did not detect his presence. He watched as she kissed the human male on his cheek and enter the building.
Using his demon speed, Sesshomaru quickly entered the building, looking for her. He found her waiting for the elevator. She pressed the button to go up and then pulled her phone out, her face looking down and nowhere else. He noticed a group of co-ed college kids probably around her age wait to get in the elevator as well.
Sesshomaru stealthy moved to stand with the college kids and when the doors open, he moved with the group into the elevator. He moved to stand in the back of the elevator and watched to see what button she pressed.
3rd floor.
Sesshomaru waited as the other kids left the elevator.
When the elevator got to the third floor, he followed her out but turned in the opposite direction to keep her from noticing him. Very carefully, Sesshomaru used his demon hearing to count how many steps she took until he heard a key jingle and a door closing.
Turning back, he followed the same number of steps she took until he reached her door. Pressing his ear to the door, he could hear her moving around and singing. Sesshomaru pulled away from and looked at the name plate on the door.

Sesshomaru pressed his forehead to the door, taking a deep inhale. He was so close to his mate. All he needed to do was only knock and see her beautiful smile. Tearing himself away he stepped back.
'Now is not the time.' Sesshomaru thought to himself. He knew that the human male needed to be removed first and then he could finally claim his mate once and for all.
Looking at her door, Sesshomaru realized that this apartment building was an off-campus dorm. She had a roommate. Sesshomaru took a picture of the name plate and headed back to the lobby. Looking around, he was able to determine what college she was most likely attending. He was just walking out of the building when his phone pinged.
Contact: Father
What information were you able to find out?
Sesshomaru quickly typed back:
She appears to be in college and has a roommate.
Sesshomaru added the picture of the name plate and the name of the college and sent the message.
PING!
Contact: Father
I'll have Miroku start checking into it now.
PING!
Contact: Father
We will not lose her this time son; you have my word. She will be with soon you.
The next day Sesshomaru met with his father and Miroku. Miroku was able to discover that his mate's name was Rin Nakamura. Her family was killed in a car accident when she was only 8 years old, and she was left an orphan. With no family, she was placed in foster care until she aged out at 18. During her last two years of being in foster care, she had gotten a job and saved up to get her own place once she was out of the system.
Soon she enrolled in college and was now in her third year, planning to graduate next year. She currently worked at a restaurant as a waitress but through detective work, Miroku was able to tell that she had been applying for bartending positions throughout the downtown area but was not successful.
After Miroku relayed all his intel Toga looked deep in thought. Sesshomaru recognized that look on his father's face.
"Father?" Sesshomaru asked.
"Miroku doesn't your fiancée Sango owe us a life debt?"
Miroku standing up straighter, answered, "Yes Mr. Tashio. She is indebted to you for recusing her brother and reuniting them after being separated for 7 years."
Sesshomaru remembered Sango, she was determined woman who did everything she could to find her brother when he was kidnapped, and their parents murdered.
Miroku one day out of the blue came to their family home and pressing his forehead and nose to the ground begged for Toga's help. He asked that Toga use any and all connections to find Kohaku for his girlfriend. Miroku explained that he wanted to marry Sango but he knew her heart was not ready due to her brother not being in her life. She always carried the weight of not being able to protect her younger brother.
Toga stood silent as he took in the bowed man in front him.
"What makes you think I am a capable of finding her brother?"
"I know that you are powerful among the youkai and that have you have done what is needed to ensure that you and family have stayed in power when the humans started to take over. You are not in the position you are in now with playing it safe and without sacrifice."
"You speak of things you have never witness. You speak of rumors." Toga said in a stern voice.
"Forgive me Mr. Tashio, I do not mean to disrespect. I have only read the myths and tales from the feudal era in class. I know that to have survived the fall of the youkai and be only of the few remaining families to still be alive and remaining in power must have come at a great cost and sheer determination. I know that if anyone can find him, it would be you."
Sesshomaru watched as his father studied the human man in front him. Sesshomaru was aware of the fact that his father liked Miroku and wanted to bring him in the family business but needed the right opportunity to do so.
It appeared that his father may finally have that chance.
"You truly love this woman that much?" Toga asked.
"Yes, Mr. Tashio. I would give anything for her."
"And you would do anything I ask of you in the future, no questions ask?"
"Yes sir."
"Even things that may be deemed as…..questionable?"
"Yes sir."
"Even things that may be illegal?"
"Yes sir."
Toga took a deep exhale and turning to Sesshomaru whispered something that Miroku could not hear.
"Stand up if you wish to look me in the eye look while making this request."
Miroku quickly stood with apphrension in his eyes, waiting. Miroku also noticed that Sesshomaru left the room.
Toga stepped forward and clasped Miroku on the shoulder, "Before I can promise anything I want something from you in return."
"Anything, Mr. Tashio." The human answered in earnest.
Sesshomaru then returned to the room holding a dagger which Toga took from him. Toga handed the dagger to Miroku and then said, "To see if you truly mean that, I need you to cut off one of your fingers. I do not care which one, but you have 10 seconds to do so."
Miroku's eyes widen in shock but then set in determination. He quickly removed the tie from around his neck and ran to nearest flat surface and tied off one of his hand.
Toga called out, "Time is ticking Miroku."
Miroku took a few deep breaths and lowered the dagger to his pinkie, lining up the small appendage. Taking one more deep breath, Miroku brough the dagger up and swiftly lowered it only to be stopped by Toga.
"Mr. Tashio?" Miroku asked in confusion.
"There is no need, I only needed to see how serious you were. I will use my connections to find your beloved's Sango's brother."
Miroku breathed out a sigh of relief, exclaiming, "Thank you, Mr. Tashio!"
"Tell me everything you know about Sango and her family and then Sesshomaru will explain to you your new role within our family business."
One year later, Sango was reunited with her brother. Kohaku was found in Thailand. He was kept drugged up and was being used a sex slave. Toga had determined to return the young man to his sister, he needed his best men for the job. The area where he was being kept was deemed extremely dangerous and even the local police dare not venture into the boroughs of that part of town. The band of seven was sent and after one week they had securely removed Kohaku from his captors, and he was immediately taken the best hospital once they landed in Tokyo.
Toga knew that the withdrawal process would be painful and most likely take months if not years to heal from all the trauma the young man had gone through.
Toga took care of all of Kohaku's bills and advised the doctors to do whatever they could to help him through his recovery. Toga also let Miroku know that Kohaku was back but whether or not Sango was ready to see her brother in the state he was in was up to him.
When Sesshomaru had learned that his father was taking care of all of Kohaku's bills, he inquired.
His father smiled and said, "Because it will keep Miroku with us and I also checked into his dear Sango. She works private security, something we can use to our advantage. Once she hears that I have found her brother and have taken care of his bills, she will be indebted to us. She will feel an obligation to our family. One day in the future I can use."
Sesshomaru nodded at his father. His father had learned along the way what he needed to do to keep people close and where to place them to benefit their family.
A few days later Toga was surprised to see Miroku come to his office with a beautiful woman on his arm.
Toga smiled and winked at the pretty human woman and said, "You must be Sango,"
"Yes sir," She answered quietly with her head bowed low.
"Can I ask what bring such a beautiful woman to my office? I dare say that if my wife Izayoi stop by, she might be jealous." Toga said in a gentle flirty voice.
Sango hesitated looking towards Miroku. Toga saw Miroku nodding at her to continue.
"Speak, I won't bit."
"Mr. Tashio, Miroku explained that you are the one that found my brother and had him returned to me. I don't know what to say….My brother has always been on my mind and I did everything I could to find him. I've spent so much money, I've spent so much of my time, so much of my life trying to find him…I don't know how I can ever repay you." Sango stated breaking down in tears.
Miroku wrapped his arm Sango's waist, whispering sweet words into her ear, holding her close.
"I am truly indebted to you, Mr. Tashio. If there is anything I can ever do for you, please don't hesitant to ask. I'll do anything, I swear my life on it."
Walking back to his desk, his back to the humans, Toga quirked an eyebrow at Sesshomaru.
Turning so he was leaning against his desk, Toga thought and asked, "What kind of work do you?"
"I work private security on contract." Sango said sniffling.
"Hm….I may have need of your services in the future. I may also call in your life debt one day as well. Spend time with your brother, don't hesitant to tell Miroku or anyone at the hospital if your brother needs anything. Expenses are not a concern."
Kohaku spent six months in the hospital going through painful withdrawals from the many drugs that had been pumped into his system over the years. The next difficult part after leaving the hospital was to decide a place for Kohaku to go to. They all knew that Kohaku needed to go somewhere safe, somewhere where he wouldn't feel threated or mistreated. Kohaku needed time to readjust to living around safe people and learning how to trust again.
Sango and Miroku had brought their concerns to Toga and asked for any advice. Sango wasn't happy with the options the doctors were offering.
During their conversation with the great demon lord, Sango was caught off guard by Toga's question.
"What kind of things did your brother enjoy doing before your separation?"
"Kohaku was always a gentle spirit, he always spent time in the fields. He would pick me flowers and leave them for me whenever I went to school." Sango said with fond smile on her face.
Toga thought, "I may know a place that would bring peace to his young mind. There is a home hidden in the mountains that may be the best place for him during his recovery.
The home was run by an elderly lady and her hanyou son Jinenji. Jineji and his human mother were forced out the home by humans when they were discovered to be secretly living in a human village. Inuyasha had ran into them late at night when driving home. With no place to go, the pair were sleeping under a bridge. Disgusted by how they were treated and how they were currently living, Inuyasha had put them in a hotel and called his father.
Toga was able to locate a deserted village buried in the mountains and gave Jineji and his mother the option of living there. Toga promised that no one would bother them and or know that they were living there. The land was owned by Toga, so he was able to put guards up anywhere he deemed appropriate. The hanyou and his mother accepted his offer and usually once a month Inuyasha and Kagome would go to check on them.
Sango was pleased with the option offered by Toga and immediately accepted on the spot.
The mountain scenery allowed Kohaku to slowly adapt to society and be at ease around others. A therapist was sent out once a week as well at no cost to Kohaku, the bill once again being paid for by Toga.
Sango and Miroku visited him every other weekend.
Two years later, Sesshomaru was advised that he and Toga had been invited to a small gathering for Kohaku who was finally coming home. Kohaku had taken up martial arts while in the mountains and now had a job working with his sister. Sesshomaru and Toga both made an appearance at the small gathering and Toga offered a job to Kohaku if he ever felt ready to be on his own.
Sesshomaru came back to reality as he watched as his father pondered deep in thought, then watched as his father picked up his phone and asked for Sango to come in. After a few moments, she appeared.
"Mr. Tashio, you asked for me?" The long brunette hair woman asked dressed in a crisp black suit.
"Yes, Sango, I am calling in that live debt you so graciously offered me when I had Kohaku returned to you."
Sango's eyes widen and she bowed, clearly speaking, "Anything you ask Mr. Tashio, it will be done."
"Sango, we need your help. I do not know how much you know of demon mating customs but when an inuyoukia's mate is born, the male knows. To make a very long story short, Sesshomaru's mate has been reincarnated and we have just found her. We have waited a very long time Sango and there is a….slight…..obstacle in our way in ensuring her future ties to Sesshomaru's. I need you to remove that obstacle. Do this and your life debt is wiped cleaned. I'll even throw in the possibility of securing a prominent position for your brother Kohaku within my company. I'll even bring you into the family business as well. You have potential Sango, and I don't like to see potential go to waste." Toga stated while sitting down with a glass of brandy in his hand.
Sesshomaru watched as Sango without hesitation asked, "What do I need to do?"
Toga beamed and took a sip of his brandy, "You need to befriend a Rin Nakamura. From everything we have read, she seems to be a sweet hard-working girl. She is currently attending university. The obstacle is young man she is seeing. Once you have befriended her, I need you to sway her attention elsewhere. No one is to come between my son and his intended mate, he has waited long enough for her. Remove him and your future is secure in our family business. You will never have to look for another job and will compensated beyond your imagination."
"Is there a time frame to have this completed?"
"Not necessarily but we would prefer sooner rather than later." Toga stated leaning back in his chair.
"Consider it done Mr. Tashio." Sango stated while bowing.
"Excellent, Miroku can fill you in on Rin's schedule and everything else. I'll send HR a letter advising of your new position within the company effective immediately and I'll reach out to your agency to buy out your contract."
"Yes sir, thank you sir," Sango stated in shock at how fast everything just happened. Sango then followed Miroku out discussing the next steps in securing Rin's future.
Sesshomaru turned to his father, "You believe the human woman to be able to sway Rin's opinion?"
Toga tilted his head to the side, "You have never seen Sango under pressure. She can get the job done."
"Hm,"
"Sesshomaru, doesn't Totosai ran that fancy upscale bar downtown?"
"If I can recall correctly, I believe he does. Why?"
Toga stood from his desk and pulled his cell phone from his pocket, "I believe it's time Rin got a new job don't you think? Miroku did state she has been applying for bartending positions. Beside the old man still owes me a favor."
30 minutes later Totosai agreed to call Rin for an interview the next day but both Toga and Sesshomaru knew she already had the job.
Three days later, Sesshomaru went to the restaurant when Rin had the interview. Sesshomaru kept his head low, he merely sat at the bar and waited to catch a glimpse of her. While sitting at the bar, Sesshomaru heard a voice asked," Don't see you around here too often."
Sesshomaru looked up to see Ayame, smiling at him.
"Can I get you something?" The wolf demoness asked.
Ayame, her mate Koga, and her wolf clan had survived the fall of the youkai, she was currently the rightful heir to the northern lands. Unfortunately, the northern lands had succumbed to human intervention and the wolf clan was driven out. They had only survived because they hid themselves deep in the mountains.
Toga had sent out scouts to search across Japan for any other of their kind and was shocked when a scout returned with a wolf. Toga was beyond ecstatic to see that the wolves had survived and with the Sesshomaru and Inuyasha's help he was able to convince the other wolfs to come out in hiding. Toga once again using his connections to find jobs and places for them to stay. Some wolves had decided to stay deep in the mountains, fearing all human contact. Toga could not fault them, every three months a scout would be sent to check on their condition and if they needed anything such as food or medical supplies. Toga had also supplied them with a satellite phone in case of an emergency.
Ayame being tired of living in the mountains her whole life had procured a job here at the restaurant working for Totosai. Koga worked on the weekends as a bouncer.
"No, I am merely passing time." Sesshomaru stated looking towards the back offices where Rin was currently at.
"Sweetie, you keep passing any more time towards that door, you're gonna glare a hole through it." Ayame stated while also looking towards the door.
"Hm,"
"Does you being here anything to do with the hot little number sitting in Totosai's office interviewing?" Ayame asked leaning over the bar counter, smiling cheekily at Sesshomaru.
Sesshomaru merely fixed Ayame with a cold glare.
"I'll take that as a yes." Ayame said pushing away from the counter to wipe it down.
Sesshomaru opened his mouth to deliver a retort, but his nose alerted him to Rin's scent becoming stronger.
Totosai was walking Rin up to the bar and Sesshomaru soon heard Totoasai call out, "Ayame, come here. I want you meet to our new bartender. You will be showing her the ropes."
Before Ayame could walk away, Sesshomaru said, "Not a word to her, wolf."
Ayame mocked surprised and said back, "Why Sesshomaru, if I didn't know any better, I would say you have a crush." And then walked away winking.
Sesshomaru's demon hearing picked up the light conversation that started between Rin and Ayame. He could hear the excitement in Rin's voice. Ayame soon guided Rin behind the bar showing her where everything was at. Sesshomaru took that as his sign to leave, not wanting his future mate to see him.
Sesshomaru caught Totosai's eye and both youkai walked out the restaurant, Totosai leading them a nearby table to sit.
"Her position is secure?" Sesshomaru asked.
"Yes, if she can keep up, she will be fine. The young lass says she is a fast learner, so we'll see."
"You will ensure that she has someone to watch over her at night and to her vehicle?"
"I make sure all the girls are taken care of and they always have escorts when they leave at night."
Both youkai sat in silence feeling the breeze blow by.
Sesshomaru stood to leave but was stopped by Totosai's voice, "She is beautiful Sesshomaru."
Sesshomaru eyed the old man, one of his father's oldest friends, simply nodded and turned to leave. Looking towards the large glass doors and seeing his mate, Sesshomaru sighed.
"Soon, my mate, soon." Sesshomaru said quietly and walked away.
