Notes:
WHAT!? I updated this story! OMG! Believe me I am just as shocked and surprised as you are š
I want to apologize for how long it took to get back into this story. This story at first was only meant to be a 2 part fic. I ended up liking the little backstory that was created so I kept the story going. The thing is I didn't fully plan out where to take this story. So I really struggled for a few months on how to handle this. I recently joined a writer discord server and asked around on how others get back into stories after having not updated them for while. The people in there gave me some really great suggestions and now here i am!
So thank you all if came back to read where this story goes!
Btw I do have a online now and will be going over it the next few days to double check it.
Please reread the last chapter in case you have forgotten what happened.
Inukimi's Story
Part Two
"You are certain of this?" Toga asked in shock.
"Yes, I saw it. It was images but it was enough to knowā¦..our kindā¦.all of us will die within the next few hundred years." Inukimi said in sadness.
Toga stood clearly at a loss.
"Butā¦.I don't knowā¦.how we can stop something like from happening? What can we doā¦..we are only youkai."
Inukimi hardened her face at her husband's words, "Are you not Inu No Tashio, the most feared beast king of the west?"
"Of course I am!" Toga said with his amber eyes blazing.
"My husband has never come across a situation he could not best. You will think of something. You have to." Inukimi said, crossing her arms.
Toga sighed and come back to kneel next to his mate.
"Kimiā¦it's not that I don't want to but this is beyond meā¦..beyond either of us. If what you saw is true, then how can I stop it? We've always known that the humans were capable of driving us to extinction. Their lives short, yes, but they breed so quickly. One day they will outnumber us. Tell me my mateā¦..what am I to do?"
Inukimi looked towards the window, noting how sunny it was. It was fall, the leaves changing from dark greens to light oranges and reds. Fall was always her favorite season. It wasn't too hot but not to cold. Fall was the perfect balance of two seasons.
When it came down to it, everything would always find balance, find harmony.
Nature had a way of balancing the actions of humans and yƓkai.
Balanceā¦.
Except this time yƓkai would not find balance.
Their world stood on a precipice, tittering towards oblivion.
Everything would burnā¦.
This balanceā¦
This would be the time that balance would not win.
Balance that yƓkai and humans could not find.
Two species both fighting for survival.
Yet somehow the weaker of the species would survive.
It all came down to balanceā¦.
Kimi knew if she desired to go on the path that was necessary, she could no longer be weak. Her soft heart would need to be hardened, a soft heart would only be an obstacle. Closing her eyes, the lady of the west steadied her resolved and opened her eyes in determination. She would squash down the kindness that warmed her heart. For what was to come, kindness was not needed.
Turning towards her husband, Inukimi pointed towards her vanity, "Bring me the small lacquer black box."
Toga stood and retrieved the small box, handing it over.
Running her smooth well-manicured hands over the shiny surface, the lady of west carefully open the box and pulled out a necklace. Dangling from the necklace was a small pink sphere.
"Toga, this is the Shikon No Tama. If you take this to the Bones Eater's Well, it will allow you cross through time." Inukimi said, handing over the necklace.
Toga looked to Inukimi with wide eyes and then to his hands.
"How?..." Toga asked.
"I do not know how it works, it's passed through my family for generations."
Toga fingered the small sphere, "The Shikon No Tamaā¦.I know this nameā¦"
"Yes, it's the jewel that all demons have been looking for." Inukimi said in even tone.
"They said the jewel was lost ages ago. Shot down by a priestessā¦.Your family has been the silent guardian to this jewel all theseā¦.years?"
"Yes, we have never said a word to anyone outside our family. We knew how much power this jewel held over demons. Well before I was born, an ancestor of mine came across the jewel when traveling across the lands. She took it not knowing what it was and forget about it. It was only later when whispers reached out lands about demons looking for this that we realized what it was. Since then, we kept it hidden."
"If your family has kept it hidden then how do you know it can cross time at the Bone Eater's Well?" Toga asked, his eyes in complete wonder staring at his mate.
Inukimi sighed, "Because my ancestor was traveling in that part of the land when she stumbled across two fighting bear yƓkai. To escape, she jumped into the well and when she opened her eyes she was in a different place, a different era. She didn't know what to do so at first, she merely stayed by well waiting. When she finally gathered her courage, she stood to leave but was stopped. Someone came to help her. They told her where she was. This person told her she needed to go back home. The person gave her water and food and helped her back into the well and she was home. That's how we know the jewel and well work together in crossing time."
Inukimi watched Toga's expression as she told her tale. He had to believe herā¦because if he didn't then the next part was going to be completely unfathomable by him.
"You believe this tale from your ancestor?" Toga asked.
"Yes, she had no reason to lie or fabricate the story. She stayed true to what happened even as her time ended. It was only on her deathbed that she revealed this person gave her message. This person had actually given her a scroll to keep. She kept it hidden away her entire life. After she passed, we found the scroll and knew everything was true." Inukimi stated, now looking at her hands.
Inukimi swallowed the lump in her throat, squeezing her eyes shut. It was now or neverā¦.
"Kimiā¦what did the scroll say? Who was the person that gave her this scroll?"
Kimi blinked back the tears in her eyes knowing that once she spoke her next statement, she was sealing the entire fate of the world. Thousands of her kind dying, the land soon to be ravaged by the humans.
Once the scroll was in Toga's hands there was no going backā¦..
Suddenly everything turned black and froze, a voice calling out, "You can still stop this."
"No I've already opened pandora's box. I will see it through to the end." Inukimi answered, not fearing who was speaking.
"A price will be paidā¦."
"So be it." Inukimi answered.
All light returned to the room and looking at Toga, he repeated his question, "Who was the person that met her?"
"She met you Toga."

Notes:
Ohhhhhh! Who is the voice that is talking?! Sesshomaru and Rin will be coming back but for now we're finding out how everyone had a part to play in how Sesshomaru's family came to hold such power and why everyone is so loyal to them.
For now, the chapters will be short as I get back into this story. Please be patient with me! Updates will most likely be once a month for now as I work on my other fics. I still have planned out to do my CEO Sessh and high schooler Rin fic as well. That will most likely be coming out next month or in Feb.
Thanks for your support and don't forget to leave a review!
