The Long Road

Chapter 73: Janemba

Saike Ogre:

Great.

It was another day cleaning the stupid stairs no one used. Why did he always get the lamest jobs? "Hey kid, clean the steps almost no one ever uses. They get dusty." "Hey kid, clean out the negative spirit pumps." "Hey kid, clean the bathroom." "Hey, who's watching the pit of unending darkness and despair?" It never seemed to end. Was this all existence would end up being? A constant bunch of garbage heaped on him? They didn't even let him listen to music anymore. Well, just because they told him not to, didn't mean that he didn't do it.

Right now, for instance, he had nothing but great sound playing in the background as far as he was concerned. While on duty in the tower today, he knew everything was going to be lax as far as enforcement went. So that meant there was never a better time to throw on his earphones and let the hard rock roll through his ears. There was nothing better to distract him from the repugnant job he'd been assigned. At least today he could indulge himself in it. He could already hear his supervisor in the back of his head barking at him to take his headphones off and get back to work. Well he was working, he just also happened to be listening to music. What was so hard to understand about that?

Admittedly, even he understood that a less than significant amount of work was being completed at this time. Still, what really mattered was putting his time in, not so much the effort. The only thing that seemed odd was that there wasn't a lot of traffic coming through the underground tower passage. No Ogres were coming off shift, it looked like. But that didn't make any sense. There were supposed to be some of the guys managing the disposal of all the negative energy to the lower levels of Hell at the bottom of the tower, a job he normally does when he wasn't apart of management on the stairwell. And there were supposed to be Ogres coming off shift from the wasteland that was Hell. There just wasn't anything.

Tentatively the Ogre pulled his headphones off as he started to listen what was happening around him for the first time. Through the dark stairwell below and above him, he heard shouting. It almost sounded like Ogres panicking and the thunder of battle beyond the mountain which surrounded the tower itself. Immediately he felt his stomach flip as sweat formed on the edge of his hairline. Maybe he should have been listening a bit better while he was sweeping the steps. There was almost a panic he could sense running up the stairs from below. Cries of confusion and fear echoed up the spire, a spire unfamiliar at any point in its history with such a sensation.

A wave of force blasted past him within seconds as a red energy scorched up the stairs. Falling onto his back, he heard the screams from below die as the light cut past him. The energy warped and distorted the air around him before his right arm was caught up in the heat and light. The unexpected pain sent a rush through him as he screamed out, his voice being the last one to echo through the hidden passageway. Looking over to where the limb had once been, his jacket had caught on fire at the shoulder as he desperately began reaching out for it, his entire body feeling weakened from the experience as shock started to settle in. The mind which had been so focused on enjoying his music only minutes ago, had even forgotten the panic, and almost forgot the very thing which left this cursed energy in its wake. It was all coming down to just watching his arm smoulder into a stump. His breathing became erratic and desperate before his fingers passed through the flames, feeling the warped flesh which had once been connected to his arm.

Wh… what's happening?

Almost passing out from the experience, his head started to sway, the only thing giving him any alertness at all being the rumbling around him. The rumbling turned into a quake, before it turned into pure physical chaos. The Stone wall around him cracked violently and began to crumble all around him. A huge slab of stone dislodged itself, falling straight down and crushing his leg. The ogre screamed out in a new pain as the world flashed to blackness and light in rapid succession as he began to lose consciousness. The walls themselves breached open, holding themselves in place suspended in the air as something lightning hot poured through. A blue wave of energy, tainted by a dark purple behind the light, made the air catch fire. His eyes almost boiled in his head as all he could see was the light. He couldn't even scream as the air around him was swept away, washed away in the wave of heat and force. The very stones which made up the staircase caught fire and some melted, though their remnants shielded him from the heat just enough that his body was blackened, but not vaporized.

The tortured, cooked meat of his form then felt weightless. Was this what death felt like? Was this when he would join the lineup leading into his very place of work, before King Yemma judged him and passed his essence into a new vessel, with a new life and new memories? Ogres became new Ogres almost indefinitely. As he drifted and the light finally started to fade from his eyes, chips of rock bounced off him as he plunged towards the ground. Everything was falling at the same speed now; a great tower of molten stone and fragmented debris fell with him as the very steps beneath him had evaporated into dust and broken rock. It was strange, despite all the pain his wracked and ruined body felt, the fall was almost peaceful. All the panic and fear washed away from him as he felt life slipping out of his form.

It was almost impossible to alter the course of his fall before he felt himself plunge into a liquid beneath him. It was almost a mixture of gas and ooze. Time seemed to slow down all around him as the world began to freeze in place. This was the opening to the lower levels of Hell, where they fed all the negative energy. All around him he could sense it, it was like being in an ocean of despair, hatred, grief, and violence. Falling like he had weights around him, the swirling vortex above him let the light die in his eyes. Unlike a vengeful spirit, he was alive… at least for the moment. No Ogre had ever had the distinction in the history of the afterlife of being sent plunging into the negative energy of almost an eternity. The waste of the galaxy's living now flowed around him…

And it started to flow through him. His dying body began to bubble as he felt his eyes peer around himself in a fear born of confusion and an unfeeling pain in his soul and very body. His body began to fatten as it boiled. The mind within his frame beginning to warp further and further as the negative energy around him infused itself into his form, a form born to the afterlife itself. The arm he'd lost burst out of his frame, its new warped, yellow flesh bulging out of place as his legs began to crack back into place.

Apathy swarmed over him as despite the violence of his body's transformations began to overwhelm what was left of the frantic mind within. Soon, the very thoughts that once dwelt within were further and further buried as all the worst of the living began to find its home in his body. The surface above seemed to come closer and closer, as his conscious thoughts began to shift, as one word in all the madness around him kept coming to the fore of his mind.

JANEMBA!

The sound rocked his very soul as it was repeated over, and over, and over again. Finally, his consciousness was locked away, feeling the blackened chains of what had taken him lock him into place, into a slumber within himself. The last shred of his consciousness only noted he'd hit the bottom of Hell…

But the ocean of negative energy, the vortex above him and he was sure the vortexes beyond, drained down and into him…

JANEMBA!

The bulging, overwhelming fat form of a monster rose in his place, clapping its hands together excitedly as from the deepest depths of Hell, the negative energy of a million lifetimes took form in a new personality, a new visage, finally able to give form to its existence… finally coalescing into one new form…

"JANEMBA!"

Gohan:

The booming voice rolled over him as Gohan stared in near disbelief at the gigantic, fat creature. Really, this was what was causing the Ogre to panic? Panic about Cell, Taro, Frieza, or any other number of monsters? Nope! Panic about some fat child giggling as it started dancing around the afterlife? Sure, why not? The only thing that gave him pause was the look of horror on Garlic's face as he rested in a giant jellybean next to him. It was so strange. Even when Garlic had been cast into the abyss before it'd not impacted him because he was alive. Instead, now, whatever this was had completely paralysed him. The same thing was true for a dozen other warriors his eyes cast over as he looked to different power sources inside each of the strange objects. He saw a fair number of familiar faces in it all.

The strange new world he found himself standing in was unlike what he'd ever expected Hell to look like. The only thing it shared in common was the yellow ceiling hanging over it all. Hell didn't even sound the same, the distance wasn't filled with the regret filled screamed he was used to, or the whirling noise of burning destruction.

It was almost serene. Outside of the thud of the monster's feet, and the drifting noise the beans in the air seemed to make… it was quiet. Turning his attention away from the monster as it laughed and 'played' with several beans in the air, Gohan looked towards the vortex once again, seeing it shrinking further and further. It was a pit. Where once the strange, clouded, black water had been, it was now… empty. The darkness it seemed to go down towards was endless. This was the biggest fundamental change of his surrounding yet. In some ways before they could sense the powers inside this thing, trapped forever… but now he couldn't. It was truly empty.

What the Hell is going on?

Turning his gaze towards the monster, Gohan felt his eyes widen as the air above them filled with a sea of the strange objects in the sky in a myriad of colours. They overcast above them in such depth they seemingly became the clouds themselves. It took him only a second to notice as well, beyond the frozen figured trapped within the beans in the sky, there was an… ocean… of rigid sculptures that looked almost like jagged pieces of glass sticking out of the ground. The only issue was that they were shaped in the form of bodies, vaguely. No energy was coming from them, but there was a sinking feeling in Gohan's stomach that they were the remains of thousands… hundreds of thousands.

Only when his eyes continued towards the endless distance beyond, he noticed the sea was unending.

Millions.Billions.

What. The. Fuck. Was. Going. On.

Turning to look in the direction the Ogre had fled to, Gohan saw no sign of him and sensed nothing as well. All he could see were the frozen statues and strange crystal globe-beans. Never in his life had he felt so small…

"JANEMBA!"

The voice boomed out again before playful laughter erupted over the landscape. It was enough to give Gohan pause this time instead of being derisive of what he was seeing. If this thing was what caused all of this? What the fuck was he supposed to do about it? Walking between the glass cutout statues, Gohan cautiously approached the massive beast as he felt himself close his fists nervously. He couldn't even sense what power was coming from this thing right now. It looked like it'd been fighting the people trapped in the beans, and he sure as Hell didn't want to get stuck in that.

He's going to destroy the afterlife?

Looking around, Gohan could see it, before his eyes turned upwards… for the first time in his life, his heart stopped as he saw a break in the clouds above. The barriers between the levels were eroding away. Freedom was within his grasp.

Unless he destroys everything. But how? Look at him? This is ridiculous!

"Janemba?"

There was a silence on his own part for a moment as the giant's head had turned towards him, staring down at him questioningly before a massive grin appeared across it's yellow face. The two goofy eyes just stared at him with an amusement which Gohan couldn't fully read, but it made him uncomfortable.

"Janemba!" It laughed while turning its whole body to face him.

Thousands of statues shattered around him from the force of the motion, and glass cut past him as projectiles. A few rips appeared across his already ruined jeans and shirt. When it started to clap excitedly, he was left unaware as to what to do at this point. Was now the time to attack? He didn't even know what he was attacking. Right now, his mind could barely be wrapped around what was happening around him, let alone dealing with… what the fuck this thing was.

Around him the chattering of a sea of glass broke up the silence around him. Now was as good a time as any.

"Alright fatty," Gohan finally unchecked his mute feature. "I've had a really bad day, and apparently your causing all of this trouble down here. Let me make this very clear, I'm not happy about that. Now if you put everything back to the way it was before, I won't have to kill you. Got it? I'm not in the mood for kidding around."

The giant's head quirked to one side as it stared down at him, as if trying to understand him. Or it was feigning trying to understand him. The ground started to rumble beneath him within a second as a massive stone hand formed from the ground beneath him, pushing beneath him to elevate him to the monster's eye level. It seemed to be contemplating what to do with him as they looked at each other on an even level.

Its chubby hands moved up and crossed its arms while staring at him, its head stilled quirked.

"Janemba, Janemba, Janemba…" it spoke, before it seemingly had a burst of excitement, an idea "… JANEMBA!"

"Okay…" Gohan breathed evenly. "I've had enough of this Janemba garbage. What's your name? I know you can talk. Stop pretending to be incompetent, you're clearly the one doing all of this."

It stopped playing 'cute' if only for a second before its huge mouth grinned again, this time, despite its 'goofy' nature, Gohan felt uneasy about it. Something was being concocted in that fat thing's head, and it clearly wasn't going to stop playing stupid. Looking down at the gigantic stone hand which had been manifested out of the ground, Gohan looked back towards the monster as it contemplated what it was doing. Yea, he didn't win any fights by standing around and letting his opponent make plans, and this just went from a 'friendly' confrontation with the Demon of down syndrome, to a violent confrontation.

The fruit from the tree he'd eaten had definitely recovered his body and strength, so he wasn't exactly hyper concerned. In a blur of motion, Gohan blasted forward, intent on punching the fat thing in the face, only to find himself passing through something. What he didn't know, but the world seemed to warp around him for a split second. When it all stopped twisting and warping around him, Gohan found himself floating in the opposite direction of where he'd been. His fist was extended forward, having passed through the air into an empty space. Turning around rapidly, Gohan almost snarled like an animal as he saw the giant thing sitting there laughing, clapping its hands in delight and amusement.

Right, not being taken serious right now. Really not interested in being this fucking thing's toy. So, options Gohan, what're we doing?

"Janemba?" the thing voiced again, its inflection almost as a question, its huge body clearly looking for yet more amusement. "Janemba!"

So, it transported me backwards. Its clearly got weird powers. It locked other people in those stupid looking gems and seems to manipulate reality. Why does it need to look so retarded? It's clearly dangerous, but I don't think its that powerful. There is too much weirdness happening with this thing. So, how do I get around that?

Taking a step forward, the huge thing made a strange noise as reality started to… tunnel. The sky turned down and the ground turned up. The sides of the world seemingly started to fold inward as Gohan felt time seemingly slowing down. For the first time in his time down in this nightmare, this year which felt like an eternity, Gohan could see past the heavens above as they inverted around him. The ground became the ceiling as the ceiling became the ground, and the sides of the world vanished from view as the ground and ceiling became one. Grey and yellow swirled together in a union of colours all around him before there was nothing but darkness.

And it was a darkness which he became lost in. Entropy seemed to lock in around him… just like when he'd fell in the vortex before. Only things time things seemed to accelerate. He couldn't see anything around him, there was only darkness, but he could feel it. His hair started to blow around him violently as he felt himself spinning? Or something moving past him at such a high velocity that it was spinning. The forces which moved around his body was enough for the blood to almost pool out of his brain, even with the ki in him regulating it. Soon his limbs were almost helplessly splayed in all directions as he felt himself truly spin. If he could have vomited, he might have, and only by the blessing of being dead did he not. Disoriented, and the motion picking up more and more, Gohan's mind almost entirely forgot about the yellow blob he'd been fighting and his mind was locked in towards what was happening around him.

"Ah…. AHHHHHHHHH!"

His own screamed echoed through the eternity around him. For a brief second, he could swear he saw the walls of a great funnel of negative energy all around him, almost like he was drowning in a vortex of darkness. Reaching his hand out, it touched the edges of the wall. It was like being pelted by sand, thousands of grains brushing against his skin, only instead of dancing off, each pellet tried to break through his skin, cutting into him. And the funnel was shrinking. Pressure changed around him before the world seemed to implode, the blackened sand burying him as much as it chaotically flowed around him.

Gohan:

The world slowly came to life as seconds passed.

The sky was open and clear for the first time in longer than he could remember. A blue sky, nitrogen rich he was sure, lay above him. The warmth of the sun washed over his features as he breathed in and out… and it felt real… like real air was filling his lungs, and real sun was washing over his face. A genuine smile crossed his lips as he sat up, looking around him for any signs of… anything… And he found himself laying atop a shattered mountain, bathed in sand. Beyond that his view looked out to the ocean beyond as it crashed against the shoreline.

This was where it happened, this was where Garlic killed him. Reaching above his head, Gohan didn't touch a halo. Falling back on his back, he just let himself relax for a moment. Whatever the Hell that thing was back in Hell,it wasn't his problem at all.

Because he was alive. Alive and well.

His jeans, restored along with him, scraped against the sand for a moment before he pushed himself up to stand fully. The lack of tornados of fire and molten gas in the distance made him feel a sense of relief like one wouldn't believe. This world was gentle by virtue of it not being a nightmare. Even now he just wanted to spent hours listening to the waves crash against the shoreline. Carefully, his mind reached out into the network of living things around him as he began to draw on and sense the ki powers around the world. They were all there, Goku, Goten, Vegeta, Piccolo, and the host of lesser powers. Well, Goten wasn't much of a lesser power anymore, much to his own surprise. They weren't that dispersed at the moment except Piccolo. He was guessing that they'd just used the Eternal Dragon to revive him to life.

Mom.

Relief washed over him when he realized that people were going to be here who cared about him. Responsibilities were the last thing on his mind right now. Real food, real water, and not just imagined nightmares between his moments of living suffering and unconsciousness from his many fatalities in the next life, were things that came to the fore. Running to the edge of the now opened mine where he'd fought Garlic, Gohan leaped into the air, diving over the side towards the water below. The cliff behind him, battle scarred as it was, was brimming with outcroppings showing signs of new moss forming. The wind swept past him, bristling across his skin and causing his shirt to catch in the wind. When he hit the water, he felt a rush as the cold liquid drenched him immediately. It was relatively shallow where he'd landed, but he didn't care. The salt in the water assailed his senses as much as the liquid itself. Closing his eyes to himself, Gohan just waited where he floated, holding his breath for what seemed like an eternity as he experienced the ocean. It was an experience he'd not forget, this was the moment when he knew he was alive again.

And for all the consequences it'd have, all the changes he'd be involved in, right now was the best single second of his life. It was like being reborn… Reborn to a world he'd died to protect. His old life had just been there to lead to this moment, hadn't it? This was almost a reawakening of self beyond any kind of transformation, or anything he'd experienced up until this point. This was being alive again. All of the pain he carried with him felt like it'd been lifted off his shoulders.

Finally, in his moment of understanding, Gohan felt the air in his lungs beginning to need out, and felt the urge to breathe in. Reluctantly he stared around the ocean around him, the light breaching through from above. Silently there was a few moments wondering if this was anything like the heaven he'd never see. The sand of the floor and the gentle turquoise around him wasn't like the heaven he'd never see. It was the heaven he'd understand for the briefest moment of his life.

Emerging from the water finally, he took in a deep gulf of air while looking at the serene area surrounding him.

"Gohan!" his father's voice shouted from above, floating in the air with his typical dumb smile. "Hey! You've been missing out on a lot."

Honestly, Gohan was never the kind of person who enjoyed hugs, or really any kind of affectionate physical contact, but when his father swept down from above and almost tackled into him, Gohan returned his embrace immediately. After everything with Garlic, Taro, Hell, and fuck, just about everything else, this was just a huge relief. The burden on his shoulders felt lifted, at least for the moment. It was easy not to dwell on everything else.

"Oh? What've I been missing out on?" Gohan asked as he pulled back. "My little sister causing trouble? Or is Goten being an idiot. The latter I kind of expect."

"I thought you two were getting along better," Goku responded, looking almost bewildered.

"We are, but that doesn't mean I'm going to take it easy on him," Gohan responded, his smile only seemingly growing as he had a real conversation. "Besides, how's mom doing?"

"She's been worried about you," Goku answered honestly. "But I think it's going to be great once we get everyone back together. I can't wait to start training with you too! Man, it's going to be great to really have someone I can push myself against."

Training immediately found its way into the conversation. That took what? A half dozen sentences before they got there? Still, it didn't matter. The sound of the ocean surrounding them, Gohan felt himself at ease.

"Training? Dad, I've not slept properly in over a year. I'm going to get some sleep at the first chance I get. Once

"I don't think bathing in the ocean's a good idea if you want to impress your mom when you get back. Though I think we've got some new clothes for you ready, and I think your mom will insist you have a bath," Goku laughed, reaching out his hand. "C'mon, let's go."

There was a nagging thing in the back of his mind. It came to the fore of all the euphoria of being alive if only for a brief second. What were they going to do about that Janemba thing in the afterlife? The Ogre, Mez, had told him that he was going to eventually cause problems in real space.

"Hey," Gohan said, not taking his father's hand yet. "There is this problem with a thing in the afterlife-"

"Yea, Hell's pretty rough-"

"No, dad, I mean there is a monster that got unleashed apparently. It's going to start causing havoc in the real world unless we do something about it. It's really weird, it can do a lot of bizarre shit."

Goku winced before smiling, rubbing the back of his head.

"We've not really noticed anything here yet? But sure, I mean, we can totally go back there and deal with it. But can we first see your mom? Chi-Chi's going to kill me unless we get you to her in a few seconds. She knows about instant travel."

"You know, you really should have kept that from her. You've lost any excuse for being late for anything," Gohan smirked, grabbing his father's hand.

"I've never been good with the whole hindsight thing," Goku responded.

"Dad, Hindsight is looking into the past. You mean foresight, you're bad at personal foresight."

There was a moment where his dad just stared back at him dimly, trying to process what he'd told him.

"Uh, yea, well I wish I had the hindsight to see that one coming!" Goku laughed, whilst Gohan himself cringed as the world around them warped into the Capsule Corporation grounds.

As soon as he was left standing there, Gohan stared at everyone else staring back at him. Vegeta's ever critical eye wasn't overly noteworthy, nor was the look of relief on Bulma's face. Trunks looked happy, which was good, considering that Vegeta's spawn actually liked him. Before he could finish scanning the area, looking for his mom and little brother, he felt Chi-Chi collide with him at the same speed seemingly as his father.

The sobbing in his chest was immediately noteworthy.

It took only a second before she stopped, her could hear her sniffing him for a second, and seemingly realized how damp he was.

"Why do you smell like the ocean? Why're you wet?"

"I fell into the ocean," Gohan reasoned, smiling back at his moment, seeing the concern on her face turn to a harsh disciplinarian.

"So, you went swimming before coming to see your family and friends?"

"I'm not friends with Vegeta…"

"That's besides the point, Gohan! I've been worried sick about you! Well, we're all going home. Your getting cleaned up, and then we're going to get your life back together."

What the Hell is that supposed to mean?

"Look, I get it mom, we'll go, but I'm not a fucking child here or something," Gohan stressed, seeing his mother wince as he did. "Besides, I don't have much of a life to piece together anyway. This is a fresh start."

"Well, you can start that by swearing less, Gohan. That mouth of yours is unbelievable. I'm your mother, have some respect."

Well, isn't this going to be fun.

()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()

Gohan:

Food.

The shower had been great too, hot water moving over his skin for the first time in his memory. A fresh change of clothes adorned his skin, and everything seemed to just be in line with what he'd want. The food was great. Meat tore from bone as he dug into chicken leg and noodles and rice were sucked down his throat at an inhuman pace. His father always ate like this, but he'd tried to be reserved himself… a legacy of his time in the Planet Trade. With every mouthful he felt himself relaxing more, as if tension was able to slowly ebb away. Everything was going back to normal. Whatever… normal was. In this moment he left behind the scorched nightmare he came from. It almost made him reluctant to mention that dumb looking monster again, but it kinda of needed to be said.

"So," Gohan started, his mouth stuffed with food. "Dad, you gotta help me kill that thing in Hell. Maybe we should bring Vegeta too. Weird powers and stuff."

Looking up from his plate with a pair of stunned eyes, his father tried to smile, but there was too much food in his mouth. It took a few seconds of exaggerated chewing before he was able to get enough matter down his food tube before he spoke, still with a mouth half full.

"Yea, yea that's no problem. Is he strong?"

"Hard to tell, but he did in everyone else. So, yea, he's probably strong."

An air of excitement filled the room before Goku stood up.

"Well, what're we waiting for then!? Man! I'm already pumped! You said he beat everyone? What does he look like?"

"A giant yellow blob with a tail and googly eyes."

There was a long pause as Goku was left standing there, a sweat-drop could almost be seen on top of his head as he smiled nervously and closed his eyes.

"Oh. I guess you can't really judge a book by its cover…"

"Dad, it manipulates reality, and the Ogres down there warned that if it got out, it'd ruin everything."

Nodding intensely, Goku pressed his two fingers to his forehead as Gohan placed his fork down, swallowing the last of his food.

"Right, hold on, I'll grab Vegeta."

Disappearing a second later, Goku vanished with his instant transmission. Looking towards his mother, who was standing there with her arms crossed looking at him critically, Chi-Chi almost narrowed her gaze.

"You've been dead for over a year and you're already running off to get in more fights?"

"Well, not because I want to. Trust me, I hate fighting," Gohan admitted. "Chalk this one up as a necessary evil."

Her arms didn't uncross, and her features remained hard, but Chi-Chi seemed to be thinking of something else.

"When you get back, we have to talk."

The way those words came out were foreboding. Great, there was another big talk coming? There was more 'responsibility' on its way. That was perfect, that's what he wanted to see. That was why he came back to life, to get drowned by personal problems all around him. It was enough to deflate his entire mood. Admittedly, that mood was already getting soured by having to go back to his old stomping grounds… but this was definitely the final edge of his mood kiiler.

"Yea, sure," Gohan answered almost dismissively as the ever-sharper gaze of his mother bore down on him.

Standing up, a flash of motion appeared in front of him as Vegeta and Goku blinked into existence. His father looked excited and alert, and Vegeta looked… furious. Like, he looked like he was about to kill Goku. In fact, Vegeta looked only about half dressed.

"You look ready to go," Gohan almost laughed, but instead grabbed his father's shoulder.

"Ready?" Vegeta snapped. "Do I look ready? Why am I even here Kakarot?! Do you not understand what Bulma and I were-"

"No time for that right now, Vegeta. We've got a big fight! Gohan promised. Demons and stuff apparently."

The Saiyan Prince glared at Goku, and then at him, before scowling and crossing his arms, letting Goku grab his shoulder again.

"This had better be worth it."

"Well, at the very least it's going to be a complete shit-show," Gohan promised. The Saiyan prince gave him a tick of irritation and Goku looked nervous.

"Yea sure, alright, let's go!"

In a blur of motion once more, Gohan felt the world bleed away before in a flash he was standing in an all too familiar place. Or rather, a strange rendition of his former residence. The strange ground and open sky of Hell, warped and malformed by this Janemba creature was laid bare to the three of them. Vegeta took several steps as he examined the area first.

"Is this Hell? It's so… different."

Clearly, the Saiyan Prince had been here before.

"The creature's the one doing it," Gohan explained. "All of those floating gems? Half of them have souls or bodies trapped in them. I'm not even sure how they got there."

It took only a few seconds of being back down here for Gohan to feel his skin itching from it. This was his eternity, according to those who were his betters in the afterlife. Being back here, so soon, was almost like having his fingertails smashed and pulled out. Actually, it was probably worse if he thought about it, because that pain was temporary, and the pain of being here would be an eternity. The thoughts he found himself locked in were disrupted by the thudding sounds of massive feet in the distance.

"He can manipulate reality," Gohan warned.

"What the Hell is that thing?" Vegeta whispered before Goku seemed to just psyche himself up without saying a word.

"JANEMBA!"

"I think that's the answer you were looking for," Gohan remarked.

The fat yellow blob started to waddle its way towards them, almost hopping with excitement of its own. Its gelatinous mass giggled with every motion, which was absolutely disgusting. They could overwhelm it, that much he was sure of. It wasn't terribly bright; the creature itself was almost childlike, but the negativity could be almost tasted in the air. It's ki was foul, even by the standards of the beings he'd sent to Hell before. Garlic and Taro had nothing on whatever the Hell this thing was. It's power however, was extremely finite, at least as far as Gohan could tell. It wouldn't take much once it was overwhelmed to finish it off.

"You were worried about that thing?" Vegeta scoffed. "It's pathetic. I'm stronger than it by far."

"Yea Gohan, that's kinda lame," Goku followed up. "Man, I was really hoping for a big challenge too. I don't even think I'd break a sweat against this guy-"

The huge, bloated monster stared at them, knowing they were talking about it. It looked irritated by virtue of the fact they were kind of talking shit about him. It wasn't unreasonable to assume that despite how simple this thing was, it wasn't particular happy about being shit-talked. Reaching down, its fat hands grabbed the surface of the ground. Resonating energies seemed to push into the ground beneath them.

Instinct kicked in and Gohan grabbed both Goku and Vegeta's arms, yanking them back along with himself as a thousand spears tore free from the ground, all of them tethered to the ground as they started to cut into the air before they grew a thousand-fold before their eyes. Spines shot out of the side of every tendril as they grew further and further, winding together before a seemingly endless wall of bladed and spiked matter flowed towards them. Space around them seemed to shrink as the tendrils made their way towards them. Jumping back again, bracing his power, Gohan found himself jumping through a portal back to where he'd started.

"Shit!" he shouted.

Everything jerked for a brief second before he felt Goku grab his shoulder along with Vegeta. In a blink of travel, they were thousands of feet above where they were as the living ground pounced on where they're been. The roots of blackened earth and glass crashed against the ground like a tidal wave, before the sound of grinding could be heard between the hard ground and the mutated, sentient appendages. As the scraping finally subsided, the broken and shattered puppets began to mould back into the ground before the entire surface of Hell seemed to become a churning mass of matter, all save where Janemba was standing.

The fat creature looked up towards them, looking as 'serious' as he'd seen it so far.

"That freak," Vegeta spat, his voice mixed with fury and honest disbelief. "What is it doing?"

"I get the feeling it doesn't rely on raw power," Goku noticed… very obviously.

"Thanks dad. We really needed that insight," Gohan remarked, rolling his eyes before his golden aura burst around him and his hair arched upwards.

Two more golden torches appeared in the air next to him as Vegeta and Goku both shifted over next. They could take this seriously now, at least. He was relatively certain that his dad would listen to his plan, though Vegeta was going to be hopeless, that much he was almost certain of. Despite things being better between the two of them since Garlic, or at least he hoped that was the case, trusting in Vegeta to follow someone else's plan? That was pretty mad.

"He's not got the power to take on the two of you, but its about closing. I'm going to make the opening. I'll deal with…" looking at the swirling mass of reality that the surface of Hell had become, Gohan almost felt nauseous.

What the Hell is this thing?

With a burst of speed however, Vegeta had already taken off towards the fat beast below. Swearing to himself internally, Gohan blasted past him, glaring at Vegeta as he did. The enormous thing below just started to smile and laugh while looking up at them. The world shimmered in front of them as Gohan felt himself tense. It was warping reality again. Without a second thought he stopped, before shoving Vegeta to the side as he came towards him. There was a tense and confused look on the Saiyan's face before Gohan felt himself pass through the shimmer.

Reality broke apart. Bright and strange colours surrounded him as the building blocks of reality cut apart in a thousand directions, before recompiling themselves in an assortment of ways, each one making less sense, each configuration appearing more maddened before finally reality reassembled itself.

As it did, Gohan was left standing atop a mountain of blackened glass, and he could sense the fight in the distance several worlds away. Instinctively he checked over himself, patting himself down with his hands to make sure everything was there and feeling his own heartrate for pick up. It was an odd sensation, having a beating heart in his chest. But it was not nearly as odd as what this was.

"JANEMBA!" The terrible bellow echoed past him from the distance as reality itself seemed to quake.

This thing was more unsettling than he realized. Even if he had an inkling of it before, after it broke the world down around him and rebuilt it, he had a feeling that was only a taste of what it could do. It could create whole worlds if it wanted, couldn't it? Reality was but a plaything to it. To fight something like that… No wonder every other denizen of Hell, including Taro and Garlic, couldn't put an end to this thing. Even though its power level was deceptively low.

An explosion rumbled out over the landscape as Gohan sensed his father's power rising.

Shit. No more time to think on this.

Blurring forward, Gohan shot past the strange jellybeans that hovered in the air around him. Looking down, he could see the blackened glass which made up the world starting to crack as he felt Goku and Vegeta's powers rising and falling rapidly. Vegeta's power briefly disappeared before it reappeared as far away as he'd been, before his father's energy disappeared and then appeared next to Vegeta's, before the pair reemerged back at the monster.

Instant transmission. Thanks dad, I appreciate being thought of. I get to walk back but you give Vegeta a ride? Not exactly fair.

It took only a few moments more before Gohan appeared on the scene, seeing Vegeta and Goku floating there with their chests heaving. The fat creature at the core of what he could only describe as madness just seemed to be laughing, clapping its hands together.

"Yea, it's a fucking trip, isn't it?" Gohan asked.

Goku and Vegeta tensed before looking back at him, but nodded.

"It's almost impossible to get in close to him with his damn powers, or whatever he's doing!" Vegeta snarled.

"Yea, I noticed," Gohan bluntly responded. "Dad, you're the one whose got the best chance of winning this. Instant transmission around what he's doing and hit him. Vegeta and I won't charge headlong into him to distract him this time. We'll draw his attention; you finish him off."

"Do we really need to finish him right away, I mean, this is pre tty interesting…"

"Dad? Are you being serious right now?"

"Alright, alright," Goku answered, raising his hands defensively as Gohan cast a glare at his old man.

I swear, it's like dealing with a kid sometimes.

Blurring with pure speed back down to the surface of Hell, Gohan stared back at the huge, fat creature as it just raised his head to acknowledge him, grinning as it did.

"Janemba? JANEMBA!"

It sat down on its fat ass, not making another move, but Gohan saw reality shimmer around it. Any energy attack would be reflected back towards him, and plunging himself into it would yield the same result. This things defense was almost impossible to get through, from the front. Did that reality shimmer still exist everywhere? Well, they were about to find out. Tapping his foot on the blackened glass of the bottom of reality, Gohan's eye ticked for a moment with how hard it felt. This was going to be a real pain in the ass to get through.

"Vegeta," Gohan called as the Saiyan Prince landed next to him. "We're about to do something really stupid, okay?"

Goku's power was spiking above them as his father transformed.

"I thought stupid was what you and that idiot father of yours always did."

Glaring at the Saiyan Prince, Gohan turned his gaze forward a moment later.

"We need to keep his attention off my old man. I need you to attack from the front, just avoid his portals with your body, please. I'm going to try and pull his attention enough to get the opening from an alternative route."

Giving a huff of disinterest, Vegeta just rolled his eyes.

"Fine."

Well, at least Vegeta was acting like a team player, for once.

Immediately, Gohan pointed his hands down as energy coursed through his arms, two darkened bolts of ki shot into the glass surface of Hell, shattering the outer layer of glass before he dove straight down, sending hundreds of tons of debris upwards. Shards of glass cut his arms several times as he dug down. Turning his direction beneath the surface towards where he could sense fatty.

Above, there was a series of explosions as the world's flow of ki was disrupted by Vegeta's energy. Dozens of energy waves were crashing against the blackened surface above, thankfully none of them were that concentrated.

Fire burst around him as he finally cut beneath the behemoth. Energy sparked around reality as his bolts cut into the ground beneath the fat one. His hands burned from his own power reflecting on him. So, the bubble of weirdness did go beneath him. But there was a backup plan. Focusing his energy, letting it spike well past where he'd kept it, Gohan threw both his arms out in the darkness around him, sending waves in all directions around him on the horizontal plane. Miles of ground around him was blasted back and condensed, creating a cavity beneath Janemba that was immense, and definitely unable to support the weight of the world above. Multiplying his own speed, Gohan blasted out of the hole he'd originally made in the ground as he heard the cracks in the glass coming from above.

The fat titan looked around with confusion as it played with Vegeta, opening holes in reality around him and throwing his own energy waves back at him. Gohan watched as the Saiyan dodged another round of energy, this time glaring at him.

"Did you actually manage to do anything other than cut and burn yourself?" Vegeta snarled as Janemba continued to laugh.

The laughter died as it looked around in confusion as the ground around it began to crack, before it imploded all around it. A gigantic wave of implosion rolled through the surface of Hell for countless kilometres as the fat thing landed flat on its ass, and the wave of reality flickered around it.

Pointing his hand down, Gohan immediately went for the execution. Decapitating this thing was necessary, immediately. He didn't need to say anything for Vegeta to do the same. A gigantic wave of purple and blue shot out, one from him, one from Vegeta, both beams twisting and arching towards the fat creature. It looked up at the last moment, gesturing its hand as the world flickered in front of them.

Oh shit!

Just as it did however, just as their beams seemed destined to hit the wall of reality that would reflect it back upon them, two golden bolts came down from above as Goku's body and energy waves plunged down into the core of the fat monster. Screams of agony immediately echoed across reality. It was like hearing a deep voiced child squeal in pain, and even Gohan found it unsettling to hear. When The fat mass of yellow squirming thing imploded in on itself as yellow fire burst out from its core. It squirmed and writhed, before the two energy waves colloded with it. Reality burned for a brief second as the fat mass caught fire, shifting colour to red for but a second, struggling against the beams somehow, before the waves simply washed it away.

Janemba's power vanished as the ground turned to dirt, and the sky turned to yellow. An eternity in this nightmare was all he could look forward to.

Home sweet fucking home, I guess.

The beans in the air started to vanish, releasing the captives within.

Time to go.

In a blur of motion, his father appeared in front of them, grabbing their shoulders before they vanished from the only home he'd eventually, ever know.

Gohan:

Wild, open space.

It'd been two weeks since he'd gotten back, and Gohan was grateful to be in a fresh change of clothes. Being in a t-shirt and jeans for the last year… the same t-shirt and pants, it was definitely a tired look. Admittedly, he was wearing a new pair of jeans, but unlike usual he'd chosen button up blue shirt. He wasn't dressing for style by any means, he was just trying to give himself something different while he left himself to the world. The humans had a term for what he was experiencing, according to his mother. She said something like "shell shock". The nightmares he had every night, his distance to everyone he met.

Honestly, just controlling himself felt impossible. Every moment of this new life felt tainted to him. Even now as he sat at the top of a ridge overlooking a calm, beautiful forest… All he'd wanted to be was alone now. It was ironic. He'd wanted to see his mother ever since he'd been trapped in Hell, and his father, and now he couldn't bring himself to be near them. He was afraid of checking in on Videl and Pan, knowing that it was much better if he wasn't involved with that… at all. How could they not be better off without him around, given everything he put them through?

When he looked up at the sky, even with its beautiful nitrogen blue staring back at him, he could only see himself staring back at him. The self that had destroyed countless lives, even his own. He couldn't even say he was staying at home right now, given that home had been destroyed by Taro's little battle. They were living at a new version of their home now. It wasn't even on the old mountain, it was just on the outskirts of Satan City. Which to say the least was awkward. But, whatever, it was a place to stay until he got things sorted out and struck out on his own again. It wasn't like he was limited to being there all day. He'd spent one day there, and it was nice. But that was the problem.

For all of his love of this being a fresh start… it really wasn't. It was a pause. It was a reprieve from being in that miserable place. It only took a few days for it to start to haunt him. Every time he looked in the mirror, he saw the real villain of his life. This fresh start came with all the baggage that'd dragged him down the first time. He didn't want to be around anyone right now, but that left him all alone with the person he wanted to be around the least. When he closed his eyes, he could still see himself back where he belonged.

Laying back on the grass a second later, Gohan just closed his eyes and breathed out.

What mattered now? What was the thing which this new life meant for him? Was it to dwell on his old life… and dwell on his fate? Or was it to find something new? Honestly, he didn't have an answer to that question yet, but it was seemingly being made for him. The gravity of what his fate was, caught hold of his life and was dragging it towards the centre… it was dragging it towards his own doom. For all the happiness he thought being alive again would bring him, it almost made him more miserable than being dead, just the fear of going back again was worse than being there.

It's like being close to something I wished I'd never known, all the time. It just gnaws at me in my quiet moments and it pulls at me when I'm around others.

All around him, he sensed the flow of ki become disrupted by another presence. When his eyes opened again, he looked over to see the all too familiar presence of his father standing there, a cheerful smile on his face as always.

"Hey Gohan!"

Oh no.

"I've not seen you in a couple days, man, you're not even sticking around for meals. You know your mom's getting worried."

Ah, this conversation.

"Don't worry, I'm just trying to get some time to myself," Gohan reasoned, which was true, but it felt like a lie in the same moment.

"Huh… Anyway, I'm looking to get some training in, and I think Vegeta's going to drive me crazy trying to transform. He kinda doesn't get it no matter how much I try to show him. I want a real challenge and your definitely stronger than me right now. Soooooo…"

"I'm really not digging the whole training thing right now, dad."

The disappointment on his father's face was real, and it was shameful to admit, but Gohan felt a bit better than someone was just as disappointed as he was. Admittedly, his dad was just disappointed that he wasn't going to get to train right now. He was disappointed that all he had to look forward to was an eternity of Hell.

Turning his head away, Gohan just breathed in an out again, waiting for his father to leave.

Several minutes passed and he opened one eye, turning it towards where his dad was still standing there with his arms crossed. Internally, Gohan groaned before sitting up properly and rising to his feet.

"You've really gotta get a hobby," Gohan urged before brushing some grass off his pants and walking towards his father. "You know I hate training."

"It's good for you."

"That's really not an argument you want to make right now," Gohan responded coolly before his dad grabbed his shoulder.

Looking into his eyes, Gohan saw something which he knew was deception. Lying had never been something his father had been good at, ever, but he knew there was a lie hidden behind those eyes. Something was amiss and Gohan didn't realize it until it was too late. For a brief second, he was going to say something until the world blurred away from him.

When he was left standing there, he found himself standing amongst his parents, and worse. Pan was standing there, she must have been a year older, and behind her Videl was standing with her hands-on Pan's shoulders. There was a mixture of fear and anxiety on her face, as well as the still off-standish, cold hatred she often displayed for him. Chi-Chi was standing next to them and it was enough to make his throat dry up almost immediately.

Ah, his efforts appeared to be dashed. What little belief anyone could have that he'd become a good person could be done away with now, couldn't it? What did they expect from him? Really? His job had been to kill people, and raze planets to the ground for his entire life before coming here. He didn't even see the local populace as anything but animals until Turles got to this rock. Maybe it was even a mistake finding the moral compass he tried to live by.

Because all that did was bring him pain. It didn't even save him from his fate, at all. Now here he was in a room with the people he least wanted to be in the room with him. Right now, he was trying to keep his words to himself more than anything. It felt like breaking the silence would set open a war he didn't want to wage. If Videl was here he was guessing his parents knew. How much they'd told Pan… well, he wasn't sure.

When is this going to stop chasing after me? When are any of the things I've done going to stop chasing me? When am I going to get anything even close to peace?

A small voice in the back of his mind whispered the truth he knew he never wanted to hear.

Never…

Hardening his heart, he kept his appearance as stoic as he could, though his eyes cast to Pan several times, trying to prevent himself from saying anything which might jeopardize where he was. This was already looking to be enough trouble, and there was a real fear of digging himself into a hole he couldn't come out of. Admittedly, for some reason he already felt like he was pretty deep, in said hole.

"You didn't tell me?" his mother asked, her tone hurt.

"I didn't know until a lot later," Gohan responded, not looking at her.

Videl's gaze seemed colder, staring straight through him, her grip clearly tightened on their… her daughter's shoulders.

"You knew," Chi-Chi responded back, her tone mixing with anger at his very short and weak response. "And worse than that. You knew what you did was wrong! You hid this from us for years!"

"Mister Gohan-" Pan's voice opened up before Videl leaned down, whispering something akin to 'be quiet' he was sure. The girl just got quiet, her head tipping down.

Ignoring his mother, Gohan couldn't help it, walking forward.

"Let her talk," Gohan responded.

Striding forward with a lethal determination, Chi-Chi walked in front of him, slapping him across the face. It actually stung, he was surprised to sense, but worse than that, it hurt beyond the pain on his cheek.

"You will look at me when I'm talking to you!" Chi-Chi demanded, causing him to turn his glare towards his mother.

He was angry. He was very angry, not just at her, but at himself. Even while he was alive, he couldn't get away from his past, could he?

"You will not hit me again," Gohan responded almost dangerously.

He'd definitely never gotten his potentially domineering attitude from his father when he'd been in command of people. He thought he'd gotten it from Turles in a lot of ways, but really, maybe Turles just nurtured the attitude his mother passed on to him.

It was immediate, another slap landed before Gohan felt his nostrils flare.

When his father stepped in, it was the exact moment he felt himself almost slip.

"Hey, we promised that we'd not let anything get out of hand, remember?" Goku's voice emerged. "We're just going to talk to Gohan."

She began storming away a moment later, Gohan knew he could hear the slow emergence of something painful coming from his mother. The final disappointment, he was sure. When he looked back at his father, Gohan knew just how bad this was going to be, before he looked back towards Videl and Pan. Pan looked more than mortified.

"Can I just have a moment alone with her?" Gohan asked, his tone very tight as he referred to Pan. "I've got some explaining to do."

"No," Videl answered immediately, and Gohan could see Pan tense more with the response. "Anything you have to say; you can say in front of me."

"Save your life, kind of at the expense of my own, and you still treat me like this? You know I died saving Pan. Really? I really get this treatment on my return tour?"

There was a hard pause from Videl, but she seemed unwavering. It was enough to cause Gohan to itch under his skin. Did they really need to find this out all on their own? Why couldn't this just stay buried. The idea that Pan was seeing any of this was even worse. No normal grandparents, no normal father, no normal mother. Nope, his kid got to have a complete fucking mess.

"You people are fucking unbelievable," Gohan snapped.

Everyone in the room winced as he spoke.

"Gohan, do you really need to use that kind of language-"

Turning violently to his father, Gohan almost snarled.

"Are you fucking kidding me? You drag me here to do fucking what? Listen to a bunch of bullshit in front of my fucking daughter, and you have the audacity to fucking claim that I need to watch my FUCKING language?! Are you for fucking real right now!?"

Each word he shouted seemed to cause the room to tremor. It was terrible to lash out like this when he was the one really in the wrong, but it didn't stop the anger from overwhelming him finally. The only problem was, with each swear… everyone seemed to recoil. The last shout, he saw something with his heightened sentence. A piece of his father's face almost seemed to disappear in a square segment, almost as a colourful block. It was something he'd never seen before.

Am I going crazy?

"You need to stop, right now," Videl warned as Chi-Chi turned around.

Looking towards his mother, she was cold and angry again, not displaying any of the emotion he'd sensed from her as she'd stalked away. The one thing you could never argue was that his mother wasn't emotional.

"Stop what, Videl?" Gohan asked. "Stop saying fuck?"

Everyone winced again, his mother appeared almost enraged as Gohan felt himself looking around the room.

"That's enough. Gohan!" Goku demanded, grabbing his shoulder.

Staring back at his father, Gohan shoved the hand aside. Was… was this real? Looking at Videl and Pan, before looking at his parents, he couldn't help but notice something. This was one of his worst fears. And every moment he'd been back on Earth after defeating Janemba… had been miserable. In many respects, it'd been a nightmare, even if it was surrounded by the familiar. He had everything he wanted, yet he had nothing he wanted. It was all surrounded by such negativity. Everyone seemed to respond the way he thought they would… to everything.

This wasn't real, was it? It was some perversion of everything he hoped for, mixing with everything he feared.

"Piss up a rope, dad," the word was almost poisonous out of his lips.

And his father winced, as soon as he'd said the swear. Why he didn't know or understand. Behind him, Pan looked like she was going to cry… but it wasn't Pan, and this wasn't his father, was it?

"Gohan!" his mother shouted. "We just wanted to talk, and now your-"

"Talk about what?" Gohan asked in turn. "About how I'm a bad son, just like I was always afraid of? Why would Videl drag Pan into this room too? Why's she here? Adult conversations in front of little kids? Either you people are completely fucking nuts, or this is just a fantasy playing out in front of my eyes."

As the next swear landed, the world seemed to tremble slightly. A crack of glass seemed to seep down his father's hairline, leaving even Gohan surprised at what he was seeing.

What the Hell is all this?

What had the last two weeks been? Had it been two weeks? Had it been but a moment in his mind's eye?

Videl let go of Pan's shoulders and seemed to be almost a demon staring back at him. When he looked to the left, seeing his reflection in the glass window of the Son's new home, for a brief second, he saw a red-faced monster staring back at him with black eyes on a yellow background. When he looked back, he said the first thing that came to mind.

"Shit, piss, fuck, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker," Gohan listed the words out casually, staring at all of them as the world around him seemed to continue to crack and fragment. "Tits."

With each world it seemed to break a little more, before his father struck out at him. Batting away his fist rapidly, Gohan punched his old man through the wall of the house before starting to back away as Videl, Pan, and Chi-Chi all began to encroach on his position. Each one of them had nothing but hatred in their eyes as they lurked towards him.

"Back up," he warned. "Fuck, fuckity, fuck fuck."

The world seemed to have cracks open up all around it, and for a brief second Gohan didn't see them, but saw another world before his eyes, with a purple hue. A pair of black eyes reflected back at him for a brief moment, panicked and ragged in their appearance. Dull noise whispered through his head as he almost felt his world tremble for a moment, hearing the bellowing laugh of a strange creature.

What?

In a flash he was back where he stood, the cracked delusion around him coming back to life as his mother, Videl, and his daughter all charged him at high speed. Instinct kicked in as he raised his block, feeling a rapid hit strike his forearm. If this hadn't been a delusion before, it certainly felt like one now. The very idea that his mother could kick him hard enough to hurt his forearm was ridiculous.

It was awkward to have to fight them of all people.

When Videl's hands formed into knives, things immediately became worse. Stepping back as she cut at him, his chest opened up as blood oozed out of the wound immediately. The shrieking noise she made made him wince before his old man appeared behind them, charging towards him with a Super Saiyan glow.

None of this is real.

Gohan had to remind himself through the pain. He didn't even know if he was physically somewhere. As he tried to raise his own power, it stalled, something holding him back his father's kick came in, cracking him across the side of the face, sending him sprawling out of the side of the building. Wood cracked open and debris spilled out over the landscape around him. Raising his head, Gohan briefly expected to see the world as it'd been… only to see a slowly turning, spinning mass of reality. The world was curving upward as if it was a glass funnel. Up eventually became down, and the very world seemed to curve up towards a dome around him, leaving no room for a sky. Trees warped into monstrosity and buildings curved into almost glass structures, built into jagged spires.

When Videl tore through the building, he raised his guard, side stepping her before striking an elbow into the side of her face. It was hard. His elbow hit with enough force to crack open her head. The sound of shattering glass echoed around him as she stumbled to one side, half of her face disappearing into a jagged piece of blackened glass.

What… the… Hell…

"Fuck," Gohan swore, not even trying to use it as a weapon this time.

The world groaned around him, a long growl reverberating through the world itself as it waxed and waned. The monster with knives for its hands flexed backwards, her half-face twisting in pain. Whatever swearing was doing, it was doing something. Even as the golden hair of his father emerged from the building, bringing Chi-Chi and Pan in tow, Gohan felt himself brace for what was to come.

I think I've gotta go all in.

"Come on your cocksucker," he hurled at Goku as another crack formed down the double's body. "Fucking come at me. I'm not scared of you, you shit! I can't transform right now, but that's more than enough to deal with your fucking shit. Motherfucker."

A fissure opened up in the sky? Well, in the ground curved above him. The world's deep noise emerged again all around them. It was like deep, scraping glass. It was enough to make Gohan himself wince this time as the dopplegangers all cringed.

When his mother shot towards him, despite her obvious pain, Gohan steadied himself as she and Videl attacked. Striking his own mother had been something he'd thought to do in another lifetime, years ago when cornered and still in shock from his transition from one life to another. Striking her now, even as she struck at him with vicious blows was almost unthinkable.

"You fucking bitch," he shot, not just trying to attack her, but trying to rally himself enough to do more than just dodge.

When Videl slashed his thigh, and his mother punched him in the cheek, he staggered back before doubling back, swinging his leg out in a huge round house kick. The edge of his foot swept past Videl as she ducked under it, before the heel of his foot cracked into Chi-Chi's side. The sound of a thousand tons of glass shattering rung out through his ears as his mother fragmented, her lower half just broke away before the torso hit the ground, staring back up at him with glassy, dead eyes. The heartbeat in his chest stopped as he realized what he'd done, feeling his breath catch as she stared at him. Even if this was just some copy… its lifeless eyes burned an image in his own.

For a brief second, he almost wanted to move to grasp the body, but jumped back as its arms started to move. Two glass spider legs tore from its severed body as it started to pull itself up. Molten glass poured from its shattered ribs as new arms sprouted from it, arms leading to terrifying glass blades.

Looking between the two before his father shot past them, Gohan tensed before ducking under the copy's punch.

"My father," he said before driving his fist into the creature's guts, cracking it further. "Wouldn't be so fucking sloppy!"

Ripping his arm upwards, the body shattered, entirely. In the hail of colourless glass, Videl charged into him, slashing him across his shoulder before sweeping in to cut him again. Moving with her motion, Gohan shifted past the blade before cutting its arm off with one fell chop, grabbing the glass appendage and throwing it like a spear through the monstrous reborn Chi-Chi's chest, sending the other beast back, her body cracking further before he formed a deep purple blast in his hand, shoving it into Videl's chest.

"Even Videl's not this big of a cunt," he remarked as another glass fissure appeared on the doll's face, before the wave erupted from his hand.

Purple light refracted through the vessel in front of him as the energy expanded inside of the glass puppet. It was launched backwards before the chassis exploded while it curved up towards the ceiling. The blast itself sending more rumbled through the already tenuous structure around them. The deep sound of scraping glass continued around him as the Chi-Chi monster hissed at him, more legs sprouting from the body as it started to stalk towards him, its face twisted with terrible intent.

Fire breathed out of its mouth, and Gohan raised his ki as a barrier. Fire washed past him. The smell of burning glass filled his nostrils as it grinned back at him, pacing to one side as it slowly circled him, looking for its next avenue of attack.

"Piss off," Gohan commented, seeing another line appear on the creature's face. "I'm so done with this shit. Let me out."

It gave him a snarl in turn.

"Fuck you, I said let me out!" Gohan shouted. "Of whatever this fucking nightmare is. I don't belong here, let me out!"

It recoiled again at the words for a moment, before its four sharpened legs stamped on the ground, its body poising itself to charge. Energy started to crackle off of its form as a strange, long screech left its lungs, molten glass beginning to form down its mouth and body as any vestiges of his mother disappeared, leaving a strange translucent creature in its place. Any passing resemblance to Chi-Chi was gone, save for her general outline. Its clothes melted back into its body as the strange centauroid thing started to move towards him, a deathly energy trickling out of its body as the world itself started to seemingly shrink. The ceiling shorted towards them as the world spun ever faster around him. The resolution of the world seemingly increased. More detail could be seen in every fibre of existence, as existence itself seemingly compressed.

When the monster came upon him, it stabbed towards him with its front legs and four arms. Kicking the two legs aside, Gohan reached up, engaging the four arms with his hands, knocking the scythes off the body as the creature shrieked, before grabbing the incoming arms with lightning speed. Cracks moved through the beast's entire frame as its eyeless face peered down at him, hissing as a molten core in its chest seemed to intensify.

"Fuck. OFF."

Shoving its arms back, the now fragile frame shattered from the final stress. Molten glass pooled where it once stood from its cracked chest cavity. Gohan knew better than to let it live. Or rather, he knew better than to leave it be. Pointing his hand out, the tiny world was awashed in purple light.

Colour bled out of his surroundings. Reflections appeared on every surface as his eyes traced past everything. Whatever this place was, it was breaking down. The fractures could be seen all around him as purple light bled in. In the distance, he could hear a deep laughter. Thousands of his own reflections peered back from him from every glass tree, home, and every surface around him. It was disorienting, he barely understood where he was. When he peered towards the house, there was a being standing there, pompously, its shoulders held up and back confidently. The red skin of its face and the strange purple of its chiton left him looking at a monster.

Another monster in this place?

It just grinned at him for a brief moment before its chest began to heave with chuckles.

"Who the fuck are you, another monster?" he asked openly.

A tree fell over in the distance, shattering against the glass base of the world. When he turned to look, he turned back to see nothing there, before a sharp pain pierced through his chest. Gagging, hot, red ruin burned through him as he gagged, falling to his knees. In front of him he saw only the small frame of his daughter, her hand formed into a spear which now resided in his almost vacant chest cavity. But it wasn't just blood he was looking at. The broken outer layer of his skin was… glass.

As fragile as this place was. There was a painful moment where he smiled in bewilderment before looking up at the one figure, he knew he couldn't bring himself to harm, even in her current form.

Pan.

"Everything they said about me was true," Gohan managed through his voice, confessing to this entity, rather than the real thing. "And if I could take it all back, I fucking would. If I could take back everything. I wish…"

Behind her, he could see the Saiyan Space Pod Raditz had tossed him in as a child. He could see himself, staring back at him, a perfect glass replica.

"I wish I'd had the strength to be a better person, when it mattered," he admitted. "Because I fucked up, Pan. I can never admit it to you, but I've ruined everything, for everyone."

The words were the truest thing he'd ever said, it flowed out of him as he the world reflected on him, as much as he reflected on it. The splinters and cracks now appeared down his own body as what made him up started to come undone. Whatever was happening, the world itself came closing in. Pan's body showed cracks and fissures all through it as well. The world was growing darker and darker as the world screwed inward further and further. It was accelerating as it shrank at a rapid rate. Bits of glass blasted past them like sand as her body started to chip away. There was no heartbeat in his chest, his lungs never worked. Instinctively he reached out, grabbing the small body and holding it against him to protect it. Bits and pieces of his own form started to fragment away as a storm of noise overtook him as the light vanished. Every fragment of his being was chipped away, cast into the hailstorm of glass that was what the world became.

The last thing he felt, was his hands lose their grip, before he fell back into the darkness.

Junia:

The world had gone to a bright purple prior. It'd turned black for her afterwards, leaving her in an oblivion of nothingness before she'd come back to the world of light and noise. This hadn't been death, or at least not the false deaths they'd suffered again and again in this nightmare of a world. It'd been survival, a survival against the odds as Turles's energy wave had enveloped her. As she'd spied the world from her wounded position, her body half covered in burns… Her right arm was barely usable at the moment as well.

But the world she woke up to was nothing like the one she'd been in. For all the agony that had been Hell before, the new landscape was somehow yet more perverse and maddened. It was like an even more Hellish reflection of a nightmare. She'd never seen anything like this across the hundreds of worlds she'd journeyed to. What was more concerning however, had been the strange, fat creature roaming the world seemingly without concern. The Ogres fled for their lives before they were turned into statues of blackened glass. The world itself warped, shifted, and changed on the whims of this joke of a thing that could only call out its name.

Any thoughts of her own intervention were limited by injury. Keeping her head down for the moment and examining that thing was the best she could hope for. Turles had been the first to confront it, and it amazed her in only minutes he'd been turned into a strange, floating bean, along with millions of other lesser denizens of Hell. Blackened sand had wrapped around him, forming into a strange prison she hadn't gotten close to as of yet. Garlic, Taro, and a host of others were all next, all taking variable amounts of time before they met the same fate. The fat creature danced and laughed with glee with every victim it ensnared as the very fabric of reality was changing around her and it.

When Gohan had confronted it, her shock was reborn as it discarded him as it had the others. A vortex of glass and reality had enveloped him, leaving only a purple prison behind. While she could, she'd made her way slowly towards the final prison as the fat monstrosity continued its jolly waltz around Hell itself, as more and more of the strange beans formed in the air.

Limping along, Junia watched the creature warily, keeping her power low as she hobbled along the surface of Hell. Her eyes peered at each of the prisons this thing had made. Energy waves didn't seem to have any impact on them, or any direct Kinect attacks. They were strange, terrible things... much like Hell had been, and still was. There was no irony here by any stretch.

The ground trembled with every step as she staggered her way towards the latest construct. Placing her hand on the side of the purple crystal, her eyes peered into it, seeing Gohan's face locked in one of outrage and fury. Her own visage reflected back at her, seeing the burns along her neck up to her jaw. In the reflection she could see someone who definitely wasn't in any condition to fight that thing at the moment, at least not realistically. Gohan, Garlic, and Taro had all been ensnared by it. The three most powerful beings in this nightmare realm, all quashed and simply imprisoned by this ridiculous creature's power.

Briefly, her blue eyes turned towards it again as it started to laugh again, reality beginning to bend and warp around it.

It's doing something.

Self preservation was high on her list of priorities. You didn't stick your neck out for people if there was a choice to the contrary. Hell, with Brass out of the picture right now, killed by Turles and having yet to respawn, or having already been imprisoned by this thing, she wasn't sure there was anyone worth sticking her neck out for. It might by the smart play to let herself die, to come back in a better fighting form to try her hand at this thing, only for her to potentially face imprisonment inside one of these beans.

I'd need to be at my best. One mistake, one mistake at all, and it has you. I don't even understand how it is using its ki to do all of this. What kind of creature could be so powerful to manipulate the whole of the afterlife?

Turning her glance back towards Gohan in his prison, she stared into the black eyes of the other Saiyan through the purple reflection of crystal.

Are you awake in there? Just left to watch everything around you? I wonder. All that power, and your still just another victim of this thing… oh? What's this?

A crack appeared on the crystal as she stared at it, breaking down the middle of the object. It was a small line at first, a small imperfection on a smooth, unapologetic face. It was something she almost thought nothing of, until she heard the next one, another small crack. It was like listening to a glass break off the ground, a recklessly discarded cup finding its way to a floor. Then a window broken. Carefully, she circled it several times, seeing canyons opening up across the surface of the crystal.

Is it transforming?

None of the others appeared to be doing the same. They all could float in unison, she noticed, almost all of them under control of the creature which kept shouting "Janemba".

"What the fuck is happening with this thing?"

Almost as soon as she spoke, the entire construct became a web of brittle splits. Thousands cascaded across the surface before the enormous noise of their blast outwards. She'd not even had time to raise her guard as several pieces cut past her, and another was imbedded in her armour. Staggering back, she just saw Gohan stumble forward.

He looked frantic, deranged.

"Where is she?" he managed to ask, and quite frankly Junia wasn't entirely sure he could see at the moment.

Several wild, frantic steps went forward as Gohan looked around in confusion, his features in a near panic. He reached out blindly, before almost falling several times as he moved past her, his senses clearly completely lost.

"Where is who? Stop acting like a fool," she demanded before her eyes warily moved towards Janemba. It's head and ears seemed to perk up in the distance as it detected the disturbance in its plans. "…"

"Janemba?"

Shit.

When Gohan landed on his ass a moment later, he scampered back, seemingly terrified as he just started to heave for air that she knew he wasn't breathing. His back hit the side of another bean while he was covered in a strange, cold sweat. Did this idiot even know where he was right now? The look on his face told her he didn't.

"I can't feel my heartbeat," he breathed, his empty eyes looking increasingly rabid. "I can't find Pan. I need to find her. I lost her in the storm and I can't lose track. Not now. I've made too many mistakes to make another like this."

His two hands came up to the side of his head as she sensed him almost breaking down entirely. Which meant this fool was going to be as userful as a sea sponge, even though he was probably the most powerful being on this layer on Hell. When her eyes moved to Janemba again, she saw the beast turning towards them in the distance as its huge mouth turned into a grin.

Fuck, it made us.

"Get up," she ordered, walking over and grabbing his hand from the side of his head. "Get up now, you useless idiot."

The lack of response didn't encourage her. Her own arm flexed, testing her strength against his. It didn't take long for it to not do a whole lot. His arm barely moved despite her power, before he snatched his hand away in a quick, unstable motion, his whole-body recoiling.

"Who are you? Where… where is…" he seemed to slowly go dark, his entire body going stiff for several seconds before he went limp.

Are you fucking kidding?

"JANEMBA!" an excited laugh bellowed out as the huge fat creature came firmly into her view, much closer than before.

Time was wasting and it was time to make decisions. Grabbing the other Saiyan's leg quickly, she threw him like a javelin into the air, before her own aura burst around her, taking off after him. The world warped around her several times as her trajectory was controlled by the monster manipulating the world around, guiding her path through the air. This thing was forcing her to fight him. Golden fire emerged from her body before she landed on the ground, trying to ignore the pain in over half her body having done so. Standing guard in front of him, she just heard the thing chuckling as it took another step towards her, its massive form towering over her more and more with every step as it raised its fatty hand twisting reality around her.

"Janemba? Janemba. Janemba. Janemba."

"I don't know what that fucking means," she spat back at it.

As soon as she did, any signs of its cheerful attitude disappeared as it focused on her, its smile almost disappearing for a moment before it grinned again. The floating crystal cages hovered above them ominously, having followed the fat thing here. Focusing her energies, she knew this was about to be a pitched battle she doubted she had any chance of winning.

Janemba pointed one of his hands down, as thousands of the floating bobbles came crashing down towards her. Flipping backwards, alternating between her hands and feet, a trail of the crystal boulders crashed in her path, trailing after her. It took her only a second to notice the haze of reality behind her. When she passed through it, she didn't even find herself in that different of a place, just a few feet behind where she'd been, flipping in the wrong direction. Her hands went up immediately and instinctively before a huge blue gem crashed into her hands. Her knees bent and her arms almost buckled with the velocity of the bobble. Inside she could see the frozen form of a creature, which she didn't know. It was when like rapid fire projectiles, the others came crashing in around her. One from the front swept in, mashing into her body. Being stuck between two rocks, her body was crushed by the next one to sweep in behind her. Bones buckled inside her body as she felt fractures open up. Blood ejected from her mouth, finding nowhere else to escape from her body as she started to bruise internally.

As the two gems separated from the force of the impact, another five came crashing down around her, each one colliding with her like a small orbital impact, before the last one came in from above her, crashing into her back and planting her body into the glass surface of the world. Hundreds of others followed, burying her beneath the mountain. Laying at the bottom of a mountain of trapped souls, Junia just wheezed, before she remaindered herself, she didn't need to breathe. But even with that being the case, her body was ruined.

Turles's energy blast had left lasting damage to this form, and now her body was utterly pulverized. On command, the mountain started to levitate above her, leaving her in the crushed glass crater of where she'd been. The huge body of Janemba came ominously over her, seeing her broken and frail body below it.

It laughed with a kind of joy she'd never be able to emulate, but there was one thing that might bring her close.

Focusing her energy, she pointed both her hands up at him, letting ki flow through her in an unreserved fashion. Dark energies coiled around her arms before she let loose with the Star Cannon. Dark blue energy saturated the area in its light. Janemba's face turned down towards her as its laugh was cut short. In a desperate motion, it made a gesture its arm down to bring the gems to defend it, but the blast had already found its home. The beam expanded as soon as it met yellow flesh. A warped rift of energy expanded as the energy pooled on the surface of the target, before the light from the blast expanded outwards, condensing first before a wall of destruction rolled out.

"JANEMBA!" howled through the intensity of the blast.

The force of the wave picked up around her, lifting her broken body off the ground before sending her dancing helplessly through the air. Fragments of the broken glass below cut through her body, puncturing through her lower back and slashing through her sides, one even coming through her chest and exiting through the top of her neck. Another two grazed past her cheek before the violent spin of her body at high velocity came to an end with a massive impact on the ground.

Even if she'd never admit it, she was almost crying in pain. Her entire body could barely move as she felt her golden Super Saiyan aura bleed away. The sky itself changed colour to black for but a moment, as if reflecting the mood of the creature. It was enough to bring a smile to her lips, even if it was laced with all the agony her current form had been forced to suffer.

Still able to turn her head, she could see the fat creature laying on its back, writhing in agony as it repeatedly screamed its name. The howling only got worse before it sat up.

Half of the yellow blob's 'face' had been burned away, melted into its chubby form. Red ichor bled out of several openings, but it didn't look like blood. The wounds were seemingly slowly starting to heal as it cried out like a fat child. Her resentment of the fact it'd totally destroyed her body left her with a bile in her mouth, before she felt someone grab the top of her armour, dragging her back as the creature continued to shriek.

Slowly, she felt herself sliding back further and further with every moment before the shadow of a mountain of spikes came into view. Her eyes had already looked up, to see a frightened looking Gohan dragging her back.

Just in time to not make a difference. You really are the worst Gohan.

Gohan:

That thing was still outside. Gohan's eyes looked out towards it as it continued to sob about the one significant injury he'd seen it sustain.

Everything still felt empty. How long had he been inside that world of his imagination? It'd felt so real. The second he felt his hands disappear from his daughter's shoulders felt like he'd abandoned her. Even now he'd relived it a dozen times in his head, feeling his strength fail him. It was ironic, his strength always failed him when it came to Pan. Hell, he could argue that his strength only ever really worked for him, whether it be personal strength or physical strength was against Turles, and Broly. Every other instance of his life he failed, or he fucked it up.

That was what this place had made him realized. That was what being condemned was bringing him to. That fat creature out there had turned his dreams and nightmares into one thing. Even now, apart of him was still looking for the copy of his daughter which had stabbed him through the heart. It was nagging him at the back of his mind at almost every point. It whispered "you have to find her", as if he could somehow protect her. That was another monumental failure. She wasn't even in her mother's care, like he'd tried to make happen. Part of him had just wanted him to believe that for the warped world he'd found himself in.

Still, he sat back in the spiked mountain which he was now taking refuge in, looking at the latest person he'd failed to really help. Burned, cut open, punctured, and crushed, all together best described Junia's current condition. Oh, and profusely bleeding. Her head was hanging back, resting against the side of one of the spiked balls. Sitting across from her, Gohan just tried to keep himself together.

Working with the two least crazy members of the Trio had been an eye-opening experience, but in truth, they didn't exactly get along…

"You really couldn't beat that fat blob?" she wheezed. "Your more pathetic than I thought. Of anyone I've ever seen with any strength, you have to be the most useless."

Staring back at her, Gohan gave a half smirk before he sat back as well.

"It's probably true," he admitted freely.

"Aren't you supposed to be the hardened one? The Gohan who actually killed people for a living like a proper Saiyan?" she almost spat. "And there you were out there, frantically looking what? Some girl? A lover? Let me guess, it was Videl? You always end up being a joke in every reality we went to. The only one of you I ever respected was the one who stood up to Turles, and died for it."

Any trace of Gohan's smile disappeared as she spoke, telling him things he didn't know about himself. The fact she knew who Videl was, was chilling. What was more chilling is she was acting like she was supposed to be important to him? How was that possible? He'd met Videl by chance in Orange Star City when he'd been abusing his power for fun with things he thought of as local wild life.

"I killed Turles, here," he corrected.

"Well, at least you could do one thing right," she coughed, her head almost seemingly falling off her shoulders before she stared back at him.

He hated pity. Even if he knew that was something Junia would almost be incapable of giving him, he could see a hint of pity in her eyes.

"You're also the only one of you that could ever end up here," she said, sounding as cruel as she was amused. "And your more pathetic than any of the others."

"Are you trying to get me to kill you?" Gohan asked directly and honestly, his voice unexpectedly filled with a rage he'd tried to keep under control.

"Of course, you fucking idiot. If that thing gets to me, it's going to turn me into a fucking misshaped marble. It's going to do the same thing to you, because your pathetic. I can only hope Kakarot finds a way down here to stop it, because your about as useless as Garlic."

The truth was a valuable tool to get what you wanted, he supposed.

"I don't really want to fight anymore, even that thing," Gohan admitted a moment later, as if excusing his uselessness. "I'm so… tired… All I've done my whole life is kill people. Even when I've tried to change, all that's happened is I've been stuck fighting for my life in frantic battles. I don't even know how I won most of them. I've been hurt. I've taken on so much pain. I've killed people I've cared about and watch people I care about die."

"I don't want to fight that thing out there," he concluded, casting a warry glance out towards it. "I'd leave it here and forget about it, if I could."

Admitting the truth actually felt like a weight was being lifted from his shoulders. He never really told anyone how he felt about all of this violence. He'd never really admitted that if he could just run away from it all, he would. Perhaps some people knew that about him, but he didn't bring it to voice. Down here he couldn't run from anything. Embodiments of all his past mistakes haunted him around every corner, from Turles to Babidi.

"So, you're a coward as well," she rasped. "You not only have your own bad qualities, you have the worst quality from most other Gohan's as well. How proud you must feel."

Looking towards her, Gohan felt his nostrils flare with anger as the ground started to rumble nearby with the footsteps of the bloated beast that lay in wait.

"You don't know me," he said coolly, standing up and staring at her with a cold gaze. "You don't have a right to say that about me."

"You already admitted it to me," she responded back hotly, her voice almost burning with fire, rather than blood. "You just want to run anyway and not do this. Well, good for you. You're not much of a Saiyan, and you're not much of a man. Now kill me, before that thing out there comes here and finishes us off."

For a few moments, his instinct was to kill her. Not to put her out of her misery, or out of a misguided sense of obligation to her request. He wanted to kill her to satisfy her callous nature towards him. This murderer from abroad, someone who'd killed far more people than he ever had, who was drenched in blood up to her neck in the blood of her own family, and his family, deserved a death as cruel as he could imagine. Even now, even as he tried to distance himself from what he'd been, it still picked at his mind.

"You're even more dense than Vegeta," Gohan remarked coolly.

The cruel streak he'd earned throughout his early life however tempered, was not yet extinguished. Because killing her would be too good for her. When he lost to this thing, and he was certain that defeat was a likely outcome, he'd get trapped in that nightmare again. And she could be trapped as well.

Regarding her from where he now stood, Gohan feigned as if he was going to unleash an energy blast at her. She stared at him for a brief second, before turning away, hoping it'd be quick.

Who's the coward now.

Pulling his hand away, Gohan walked towards the entrance. There wasn't another word between them, but he could taste the venom in the air and feel holes being burned in his back from the stare he was receiving.

()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()()

Gohan:

Emerging into the light, Gohan's eyes looked towards the fat creature as it stalked through the wasteland, its blubbery mass seeking the pair of them for its revenge? Or whatever amusement it could find. There was a blotch of red skin, now smooth like the rest of its form, where Junia had hit it with the Star Cannon. This was about to be his second outing against this thing. As soon as it saw him, it seemed to grow excited again as the red flesh slowly turned yellow once more.

"Janemba! Janemba! Janemba! Janemba!"

The deep voice boomed over the open air of the lost world around him. Left standing opposite its gleeful charge, Gohan was left only wondering how did you fight something that treated reality as its plaything? It could rebuild and remake the world as it saw fit. In fact, that appeared to be what was happening, even now. Its huge fat body stopped, before plopping itself down on the ground, thudding as it did. Reaching down with its now outstretched arms, it began to touch the ground once more, this time flashes of pinkish energy emerged as dozens… dozens of smaller Janembas began emerging from the earth itself, all of them starting to waddle towards him at a surprising burst of speed.

Is this for real?

When the first of the chubby creatures slapped him across the face with enough force to peel concrete off of rebar, Gohan's face twisted to one side as the army of creatures leaped and charged into him. Guarding as much as he could, he blocked a series of blows which were all slow moving. Even in this form, barring his Super Saiyan transformation, it wasn't enough to overwhelm him. Beyond the army of Janembas attack him, he could see the fat-king of them all celebrating with his hands clapping and a broad green.

"Janemba, Janemba!"

In the pandemic of fast-moving fat creatures, Gohan started to lash out. His fists tore through the bloated blobs, bursting them like balloons as their ichor spilled out, splattering against one another and onto the ground before he expelled enough power from his core to sent out a wave of destruction from every angle. In a flash of brilliant light, each one of the chubby creatures evaporated from his view as their ashes were simply washed away by the force of the wave.

Left in front of him, the king of obesity was left sitting there, his clapping having stopped as Janemba stared back at him, blinking several times in surprised and almost a disbelief. Admittedly, their previous bought had ended prematurely, as far as Gohan was concerned. But really, how the Hell was he supposed to stop this thing when

"Janemba?"

It rose from its sitting position, hopping up to its feet with excitement as it flexed its obscene form. The world began to darken again as he felt it beginning to twist into a cylinder around him. This was what happened last time, even with the ground beginning to flake into pieces of blackened sand, stirring in the air all around him.

"Are you fucking kidding me? Again?" Gohan shot back harshly.

The word carried through the air as the pieces of blackened sand stopped in the air. The vortex of reality slowly came to a halt as the giant thing just paused, looking confused as its entrapment attack seemed to stop on its own. The chubby beast itself almost seemed to recoil at the word, stepping back with not alarm, but with revulsion. It was as if it'd rebuked him somehow.

No fucking way. That works on this thing too?

"Shit, that didn't work out for you?" Gohan asked, stressing the first word in the sentence as he started to step forward.

The mass of monster in front of him took several huge steps back, its fat body sliding against the surface of this new Hell it'd created. It didn't crack like the glass and crystal fixtures in his prison, but it clearly didn't enjoy the sensation. Maybe this would allow him to get close enough to engage? Hell, this was a great surprise. If this worked to disrupt everything it did, he basically had a ticket to victory.

In a blur of motion, Gohan blasted towards Janemba, the fat creature seemed to shake itself out of whatever stupor it was in, swinging it fattened hand towards him. Hurling himself upwards in his trajectory, Gohan managed to pull above the swing before colliding with his first into the pudgy creature's face. It moved like hot putty to the blow, warping and congealing in one direction from the hit. It was enough to leave him stunned before its other arm came flailing up, slapping him with its open palm. The hand was large enough to be the same size as his own whole entire body. The force of the blow sent him sprawling back through the air, his body spinning several times before he forced himself to a stop with an expulsion of ki behind him.

Reaching back Janemba punched sideways, his hand disappearing through a wall of warped reality. It took Gohan too long to realize what was happening as a gigantic fist came through, crashing into his body directly. The concussive wave caused by the impact blasted through his body, his organs rumbling and vibrating from the power of the attack. Falling back through the air, he was left in shock by how hard this thing had hit him. Pain suddenly emerged from behind as another fist crashed into him as Janemba punched in another direction, this time attacking from behind. It hit him hard enough that he shot forward, flying towards the beast who was giggling at this point, before it kicked its chubby, oddly shaped foot at him. Not teleporting at all, this time his face slapped into the surprisingly stiff flesh and mass of the creature.

Perfect.

The force of the hit almost sent him sprawling back, but Gohan threw all of his ki behind himself, locking himself in place, keeping him at the base of the giant's foot. Everything had been wanting to close the gap, and finally get within arm's reach of this thing. Blurring out of motion from beneath it's foot, Gohan focused his ki behind his fist before striking the fat monstrosity in the belly. The gelatinous abdomen sucked inwards from the force of the blow as great waves rolled through the fat. A howl of surprise and pain exited from the childish monster above him, and in that moment Gohan began to realize he could win against this thing. Appearing in front of its face, another punch landed, this time changing the shape of its face as one side of its head sucked in, and the other inflated as the matter in the body was violently sent from one side of its body to another.

"Janem-!" it shrieked before its huge body was sent sailing back through the air, crashing against the surface of Hell itself like it'd fallen from the heavens.

The weight and force of impact was such that veins had opened up across the glassy surface, sending cracks down the glass that stretched for dozens of kilometres. The sound of pained gasps was the other thing in the air as soon as the sound of a thousand breaking windows died around him. Left to float in the air, Gohan just breathed in and out as the vile thing started trying to pull itself up, its face slowly returning to its original shape.

All around them, Gohan realized that Hell had turned into somehow a greater, more desolate nightmare than he'd imagined before. Would killing this thing even change that? Or was this the newest incarnation of the unending nightmare he'd be subjected to for an eternity? Hell, this thing had even made a prison for him within this already terrible prison. He wasn't beyond being spiteful, or vengeful, but would this thing even understand suffering if he forced him to go through it?

This thing's too dangerous to let go for long. Alright, let's finish this up.

Focusing his power into both of his hands, purple energies began to lick off of his forearms before Gohan thrust both hands forward, revealing a single bolt of purple energy as the Calamity Blaster was unleashed. Reality manipulation could only get you so far it looked like. Getting out from his prison had been the biggest stroke of luck in his eyes.

The purple orb pulsed as it shot towards the downed monster. Reality shimmered in front of Janemba as Gohan realized immediately what that meant. Behind him, and just above, the universe shimmered as well as he honed himself in. Moving back immediately, his attack shot through the moment it appeared in front of Janemba, shoving both hands forward, he projected the attack forward again as it shot down from above. The attack the demon had redirected back at him, again bolted towards the fat creature. This time it was only left with a confused look on its face, clearly having anticipated an alternative outcome. It appeared to be in the process of standing up just as the purple blast found its home.

Immediately a fireball of purple power formed as the universe itself seemed to rumble all around him. The fantastic flash of bright energy discharging was enough for Gohan to raise his arms to protect himself. The wave that was carried through the blast wooshed past him, taking him along with it for several dozen metres before he regained control over his own flight. The air filled with the noise of millions of shards of glass raining down from above, all of them clattering against the now shattered surface of dark glass. The mushroom cloud forming at the heart of the blast now rose into the heavens, far above where the ceiling of Hell had once been as it towered into the skies above, seemingly climibing towards infinity as the mass of the smoke pulled itself up from the gaping pit the blast had made.

Despite the noises still slowly dying in front and around him, Gohan's senses were still keen, keeping focused on the area. He'd been burned before thinking he'd won battles that might not be over yet. Ironically, the last time he had was when Garlic had killed him. It was what brought him here in the first place.

The strange, almost negative ki he'd sensed early was still there. It was everywhere around him, even. Even as the smoke cleared, Gohan expected to see a half cooked, or totally destroyed corpse. Instead, the thundering boom of a fat footstep was all he'd heard.

That much power didn't do it? This thing's power is being concealed. That should have finished the job.

"Janemba!"

Smoke finally faded from view once a great swirl of power shoved it aside. Reality itself seemed to vibrate as Gohan felt himself swallow while Janemba's chubby arms stretched out, his fattened chest thrust up against the air as it seemed to inflate with anger? Or something akin to determination? It was impossible to tell, given that this thing was ridiculous in its appearance. Thousands of the strange jelly beans in the air started to vibrate around the air. On the endless expand in the distance, Gohan saw thousands more of them all beginning to collect.

It was like watching gravity drag matter together. Each gem was like an atom smashing into another as the multi-coloured orb grew seemingly into a small moon hovering above the giant below. Reality shimmered around it like a reflective shield, as if to warn Gohan himself that it had yet to exhaust itself.

It flipped both its outstretched arms down, and thrust them towards him, and Gohan knew exactly what kind of indicator that meant. Looking up at the almost astral body of trapped souls, Gohan felt the weight of matter shifting around him as the huge thing started to barrel towards him. Hundreds of the oblong shaped missiles poured out of the greater hole, all aiming straight at him.

You've got to be kidding.

Each shape veered towards him at intense velocity, and he knew any hopes of conserving his energy was about to go out the window. He'd been taking things seriously, but he'd been very tactical about it, and that meant not transforming without good cause. Well, this was as good a cause as any. His aura emerged for only a brief moment in the dark purple which had come to characterize it, only for it to turn to gold. For a brief moment, all of the objects stopped in their flight, no longer under Janemba's control, but for the briefest of seconds, his power stopped it in their place simply by being what it was. Even in his first Super Saiyan form, the earliest evolution of the power he'd unlocked after coming to the Earth, his speed seemed to be faster than light itself as he pushed himself.

Each of the strangely shaped crystals shot past where he was long after he'd left the space. Even the gigantic collection of them, seemingly carrying a gravitational movement of its own, just trailed after his movements. Now it was just a matter of determining his attack in response. His body drifted through the air with speed and grace, tumbling and turning through each of the thousand of objects attacking him, sometimes his feet simply gliding off the surface of each one. The objects slammed together near him as they tried to intercept him at the same time, his clacks rumbling through the world around him as they collided.

Seeing Janemba still standing in the crater, Gohan paid attention to the rocks before he prepared to strike, intending to move with his full speed towards the giant.

It was then, reality shimmered in front of him as he prepared to launch himself. Aborting his attack immediately, Gohan swerved around the disturbance in front of him, almost being struck by one of the jelly-beans as he did, his eyes flashing with surprise as he was caught unaware. The world shimmered again and he bolted to one side, avoiding it before it shimmered again and at faster succession. One of the orbs passed through it and appeared near the most chaotic and hazardous point in the sky, right in the centre of the cluster nearby. The monster was trying to force him into his attack.

"Janemba!" another shout came from below as the world started to curve almost there was so much manipulation happening to the face of reality as the entire world itself seemed to shimmer. As the prisons came towards him, they themselves teleported to random spots of reality around him. It was like being in a hall of doorways leading to nowhere, every direction he could move seemingly lead to a disorientating trip. Halting in the air for the first time since transforming, Gohan took his pathways to account, charting his path through the maze around him before there was another shimmer nearby. By the time he'd turned his head, Janemba' fist shot through, colliding with his body. Sending him flying back towards another portal as a huge gem came through it, crashing into his back.

Gagging, Gohan turned, grabbing the capsule and peering inside, seeing the look on Cell's face inside of it before surrounding the object with his ki, trying to take control of its movement as it flew into him, pushing against him to try and pull him into towards the others. The shimmer fields disappeared one by one as the deadly projectiles made their way back towards him. The collision which followed made his body contort between the two objects before the rest began slamming into him from above. Each one was like being struck by an asteroid before his body was sent into the glass below, still clutching the one bean he was using as a 'shield'.

Countless thousands of tons then came crashing down from above, the weight being dispersed around him, but the pressure still being intense as the glass beneath him shattered, each one of the gems resonating with power and Janemba's will. A mountain of corpses, covered in minerals, was now upon him, pushing down with the force of a mountain. The noise of all the grinding was enough to make his teeth ache. For almost a full minute he clutched onto the last piece of his sanity. The ground beneath him cracked further as the matter around him began to almost liquify, glass turning into a fine sand. He could almost feel a hand reaching through it, grabbing at his shoulders and trying to pull him down.

Right. I'm not going back into this thing's cage.

Energy flared off his body as the sand was blasted behind him. Energy crackled off his skin before his aura exploded outwards. Once forming an interlocked mass above him, the marbles suddenly, and violently separated. He couldn't see anything but these cages above him, and even ahead of him the path was littered with the frozen, drifting faces of the damned, sealed behind their multi coloured gems. It was a brief realization on his part, that the colour of the gems often corelated with the colour of the aura they generated.

"JANEMBA!" Gohan shouted as the demon looked at him, its mouth wide once again with surprise before it smiled back.

"JANEMBA!" it bellowed before laughing. The world began to warp next to the obese beast.

In all honest, the lion's share of his immense aura was being spent holding the bullets Janemba had made out of the others into striking him. This was going to have to end, and end soon. The consequence for losing? Being trapped in a nightmare in his own mind and perhaps not even knowing how to get out. Right now, he could see his victory as the cheerful and sadistic thing just started clapping, clearly amused more than threatened at that moment. His arms trembled around the golden gem he now held in his hands.

"I'm going to make you fucking EAT this you fat bastard!" he shouted, before breaking into a run, holding the pod above his head as he sprinted forward, dodging and weaving around the other beans being held in the air. Each one trembled as he walked past, his power keeping them in place only as they tried to return to him, wanting to crush him once again into the ground.

The world shimmered in front of him several times, but by not moving as fast, Gohan saw each of the weakened fields of reality and appropriately dodged around them, getting ever closer to Janemba as it just grinned at him, further enraging him.

"Janemba! Janemba!" it laughed.

The laughing stopped when Gohan slipped past another three disruption fields. Instead, it got up and looked irritated, Gohan saw the fluctuation in reality in front of him, and beside Janemba as it reached back, preparing to punch.

Got you.

With all his might, Gohan beamed the oblong diamond into the wormhole in front of him. It blurred with pure motion. It entered as if it was splashing into water, only as it warped through reality, he could see it emerging on the other side, shooting out at hyper speeds as it collided with Janemba's face. The force of the hit sent a clapping noise through the air as if it was a boom. The entire front of the creature's face seemingly caved in for a moment as the familiar wail of pain. It was like hearing a child scream, and sadly that was something Gohan for the most part had become desensitized to. Launching himself forward in a blur of motion, the mountain of gems formed behind him as they fell straight to the ground as Janemba's hands reached up to his badly concaved face.

Appearing next to the huge form, Gohan thrust his fist into the belly of the beast. This time the entire thing collapsed under the strength of the hit as Janemba's body was sent rolling back violently, it's squeals already becoming distant before Gohan vanished with speed, appearing behind it and kicking it into the air. Rapidly following, it took only a split second for him to catch up to the creature in the air. Several kicks followed in rapid succession, each one knocking the blob in several directions in the sky before Gohan appeared above him, driving both his hands into its "head". The entire mass warped before it went straight to the bottom. Forming a bolt of pure energy in his right hand, Gohan made the dive towards the creature, looking for the killing blow.

It was when he saw the belly of the creature push back out, glowing from the inside with an intense orange, and a sense of an immense amount of ki, Gohan realized too late that he'd become over ambitious. In rapid succession, hundreds of energy bolts fired up towards him, knocking the first ones aside, he felt his arm numb from the effort before he bounced back, as several hit him directly, sending him sprawling back. The damage was minimal, but all together it'd be devastating. Instead of the bolts following him however, they just seemed to spew out into the afterlife without any regard. Dodging several other bolts, the endless sky itself seemed to fill with orange light. Looking down in the brief moments he had between the frantic assault, Gohan could just see Janemba rolling around, an endless stream of energy seemingly coming out of him.

God damn it. I've gotta put an end to this.

Weaving through several shots, Gohan tried to get closer, the intensity of the blasts delaying him. When Janemba's body lost its ability to roll, with tens of thousands of blasts hovering in the air around them, Gohan saw his body fall inwards in towards the gloss, as orange fire appeared beneath him.

OH FUCK!

The world around him turned white as Gohan felt himself beginning to burn, the very air around him catching fire.

Junia:

Managing to stand again was her great triumph. Managing to stagger towards the edge of the spiked mountain she found herself embedded in prior, Junia had watched the battle from a distance, sensing the powers exchanged. Whatever this thing was, she could see how it'd defeated Taro, Garlic, Turles, and the others. It wasn't normal, its powers didn't seem to rely on almost anything she could say she knew. Worse, the only thing she could sense that it wanted was chaos and destruction. Even the waystation above them was entrapped by the strange gem-like substance. It was remaking the afterlife itself with the nature of its power. Everything in this world of glass and agony felt like it was born of something negative. It was as if all of this was fed on by the evil that had been trapped here for an eternity.

And having people built on hatred or vengeance fighting it, couldn't possibly lead to anything but defeat. There was a real question however… how did Gohan get out of the gem? Even now in the distance, he'd seemed to have the most success fighting this thing. Realistically, Garlic and Taro should have put up the same kind of fight, but they were entrapped far too quickly. It didn't matter, of course, because even after their defeat of Taro on the Earth, as dramatically unlikely as that was, they weren't going to pull this one off.

Even if Kakarot and Vegeta were here, she very much doubted this would make the difference. Hell always brought with it a sense of despair, but this was born of what she was seeing, versus where she was. Ironic, that she, Taro, Brass, and Gohan had awakened this thing through their being here in the afterlife. When Gohan destroyed the mountain concealing the secret passage to their escape, this thing had formed. Now the afterlife itself was poisoned. Before, they would have killed any fighters of any note, and typically the Supreme Kai. Perhaps she destroyed the Earth itself several times out of spite and malice.

But to destroy an entire afterlife, and potentially doom creation? That was a new box to check off her list of things she'd probably have not participated in.

The marbles in the distance had formed into a mountain, falling like dead weights. But it was what happened over the next minute or two as the battle became yet more distant that was the most horrifying things she'd seen in her death so far. A world's distance away, perhaps more, there was a fireball in the distance made of orange fire. The blinding flash behind it saturated everything, burning her eyes almost as she stared directly into it. The sky turned into a sea of fire, and the centre of the destruction which had started to become unleashed was growing. It grew higher and higher into the air above until she was worried it would expand forever.

Then the wave came. The shockwave was enough to rip half the mountain apart behind her. Pre-emptively, she threw her ki up as a shield. The power in front of her flickered a hundred times as pieces of debris bounced off of it. But the real wave which was coming was made up of the floor of Hell itself. A wall of matter, burning with heat rose into the air following the fireball, billowing further and further upward as the solids of this world seemingly became liquid fire. It rolled out like a great tidal wave. Lightning crackled off of it from the static generated by its simple existence. It rose higher and higher in the distance as it began to close with her.

Focusing her power, Junia shot straight up, flying higher and higher into the heavens above, well past where she knew the ceiling to Hell once was. When she looked down, the molten wave finally crashed, even that created such heat it reignited the pain in her burns and cuts. Her entire body trembled as she sought higher space, trying to get away from the burning hot materials of what had once been the floor of the afterlife.

The entirety of Hell, as far as she could see, was a great ember, burning at the base of the afterlife. It was the Hell her mother had described to her in old human stories, a lake of fire. From this distance she couldn't see it, but she knew below it was a bubbling, burning, boiling mass of ash and rock.

That thing had just changed the face of Hell once again, and this time not even through manipulating reality… but one attack. Both powers had yet to fade. The titans were still there to do battle, and there was a nervous sensation running through her. What kind of monsters could survive something like that? Their powers might not have faded yet, but they could be fading. Sometimes great kis could feel like they existed for hours under the right circumstances.

Against her better judgement, she took off towards where the centre of the blast had been. Below, endless kilometres of cooling surface left a black surface to look down upon, gently glowing from beneath its surface. If she actually breathed real air, even from this height the world would likely be toxic. Gliding down towards the source, she almost froze at the size of it.

A crater seemingly the size of the Earth itself was burrowed into the floor of existence. A near endless void of darkness lay ahead of her. Gently gliding towards it, she almost wondered… where had the next level of Hell gone? The endless tides of entropy seemingly were just gone… The descent into the darkness left her paranoid, her eyes scanning in every direction. Even now, her body was next to useless in a true battle, puncture wounds perforated her entire form. If she were alive, she'd have died from these injuries within minutes of taking them.

There didn't seem to be a floor.

The further down she went, the cooler things became. The darker things became.

Finally, she reached near the bottom. Her aura lit the area, where she saw the slowly inflating body of Janemba. It was enough to make her entire form almost quiver. This thing's outward appearance seemed goofy at times… but it was a nightmare. It stared up at her in surprise, it's fattened body slowly coming back together. It'd body was puffing back out, but it clearly looked exhausted, its form trying to pull itself together.

Her own aura turned to gold as Junia took her one good arm, thrusting it towards the blob, unleashing her ki. The blue energy rocketed towards the surprised Janemba. When it hit from above, blue energy penetrated through the still recovering Janemba, burrowing into its body from above. Desperate arms wiggled to the sides as the most putrid sound she'd ever heard screamed out from its squirming mass. The blue energy burrowing into its body turned from a violent blue, to a strange green as it seemed to catch fire from within.

"JANEMBA! JAAANEMBA! Ja! JA! JAAAA!... JAANEM… Jaane…mb.. m."

Its death throws were enough to leave her in surprise as its entire body stopped moving. It died on the ground in front of her as Junia slowly landed.

"I do all the work and you steal my kill," Gohan remarked.

Turning sharply, she looked up to see the golden-haired figure floating there. His attire had been annihilated. There were light burns across his form as he slowly landed on the ground next to her.

"And here I thought you were dead," she commented dryly.

This fucking bastard left me to live just to make me suffer.

Even now her entire body was wracked with pain, her sneer couldn't come off her face as Gohan took several steps towards her, looking at Janemba's fallen mass off and on before turning his attention back to her.

"We're both dead."

"You know what I mean," she snapped. "And where were you during all this? Hiding from the big bad fat creature?"

"No, I was busy riding a wave of flaming molten debris trying to not get killed."

"Well, congratulations."

"You know, I liked you more when Brass was around," Gohan observed. "Your really good at testing my patience."

"Good," she spat back immediately. "You left me to live back there just out of being a petty piece of garbage."

"Yea, I did," he admitted brazenly. "I also then proceeded to beat this thing."

"Beat it? I hit it by surprise while it was reforming, you idiot! By the time you got here it would…"

Junia paused as she looked towards the fat body as she heard a squirming sound. The body had turned into an almost liquid clay, as red as gore filled blood as it started to wrap and mould itself inwards. The huge mass seemed to be shrinking deeper and deeper into itself and in seconds, it was no bigger than a large person.

Slowly, a new body emerged from beneath the receding mass, as piece by piece sucked into this new horrifying form. The devil itself was standing in front of them as Junia sensed something far darker than their surroundings standing in front of them. A pair of black eyes on a yellow background stared through her as its cold, unfeeling face reflected back at her.

Author's Notes:

I've opted to post this without completing the whole scene (I've got another 20 pages written so far for what is now Chapter 74), just to give you guys something while I beat my head against a wall for you, lol. I look forward to getting past the last sequence in Hell, just because after this it'll be shorter chapters… for a looong time. *Sits back with relief*

My life's been extremely busy otherwise. Work is difficult yet rewarding. I run several tabletop RPG's and help run events for tabletop wargaming. I've also had some upheaval in my personal life. I had a medical scare earlier in the year which didn't help (An undiagnosed Sinus infection screwed me up for months, which had been mistaken for allergies), and of course, I'm tinkering with starting an original work on the writing end, though that's just tinkering, I'd be over a year away from even beginning to write anything close to such a venture.

Also, Game of Thrones Season 8 was a total dumpster fire. 😐 Real glad they ruined that entire series for me.

Also: I do tend to get a lot of messages and reviews kind of pointing out that Gohan's sexual crimes are really just appalling, and unbearable. The first thing I want to point out, is Gohan didn't really see the people of Earth as people. He misused and abused multiple organisms throughout his life for a whole host of reasons, labour exploitation, murder and exploitation, butchering people to cause fear. That's before you take into account his billions of murders, and the fact he destroyed whole worlds and committed acts of wanton genocide. Despite Videl being personally impacted by Gohan's crime, its actually far from his worst crime. Gohan wasn't sentence to an eternity in Hell because he assaulted one girl on Earth. He was sentenced there because he was an ominous devil, untrusted by all save his superiors, who murdered and butchered his way to his own survival. Gohan could have filled the Planet Earth's oceans with the blood he'd spilled for his own gain and survival.

I really didn't think I needed to address this; it just comes up a lot. I just want to make it clear, who is worse? Someone who abuses and rapes another human being (which is an abhorrent crime, I might add, but I really need to give perspective), or someone who runs a deathcamp that kills several hundred thousand people? To me the answer is always clearly the latter.
