"And we'll be right back after these messages!"
"Cut!" An off stage man says to the crew and the cameras go offline. Just in front of them was the talk show host and actress Melody Cattington. Melody sighed once the cameras went offline.
"Tired, hon?" The host asked. "Why don't you grab some refreshments? They're just by the equipment over that way."
"Oh thank you very much." Melody said and got off the chair. She walked past the busybodies working to ready the show for the next segment. Her segment was done and over with. Finally…
Melody reached the table and saw a lovely assortment of pastries and healthy snacks along with cups of water. There was even a coffee pot. She rubbed her hands together, eager to grab something when a telephone rings. Melody looks confused for a minute, but then realizes her dress was buzzing. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a cellphone.
"Oh dear…" Melody says seeing the caller ID. She hangs up the call.
"Oh!" Melody exclaims when the phone begins to ring again. She sighs and answers it.
"Memlo…what a surprise." Melody's tail begins to twitch back and forth.
"Cattington." Memlo says on the other line. "I sure hope it isn't that big of a surprise. After all, I caught your big segment on tv!"
"O-oh you did, did you?" Melody's voice catches in her throat. She notices some workers of the show eyeing her and she turns away. "Well, I sure hope there's no hard feelings-"
"Melody." Memlo says, cutting her off. "Forget the segment. That's not what I'm here to talk about."
Melody folds her arms, a frown settling on her face. "Then what?"
"...It's about our little friend."
Melody stood straight up and looked around to check if anyone was watching. No one was. She returns to the call. "Mr. Memlo, no. I refuse."
"I've kept your secret this long, you owe me." Memlo hissed.
Melody growls. "I owe you nothing!"
"Melody-"
"Good day, Mr. Memlo." Melody firmly says into the phone. "I do hope you enjoyed the segment!"
The feline hangs up the phone before the director could get another word out. She leans against the refreshment table, putting her face in her hands.
Suddenly, she felt the floor vibrate. With a gasp, Melody draws away from the table and looks to the source of the vibration. Everyone around had begun clinging to walls or anything sturdy to avoid falling. Right in the middle of the cement floor, the floor begins to break apart and crumble as a drill machine shoots up and out of the ground. Melody shields her face from the falling dirt and then looks back up.
"Drills!" Yakko says, driving the machine and pushing as many buttons on the machine as he deemed fit. "Who knew they just left these things untended?"
Wakko and Dot sat on either side of him, bobbing their heads. Wakko bites the remaining slice of pizza in his hands and looks at the workers around him. He noticed the bewildered state they were in. Wakko swallows and looks at his older brother.
"Yakko, I think you forgot something." Wakko points out.
Yakko taps his chin. Then he snaps his fingers. "Oh right!"
Yakko looks around the front of the engine's controls and grabs a hold of the keys, turning the drill off. Each of the Warners jumps off the drill. Yakko hands the keys to one of the workers. "Make sure this thing makes it to the parking lot would ya?"
"Um…okay?" The worker says, quite confused.
"Thanks!" Yakko says and catches the eye of a giggling feline.
Melody was watching them from afar and giggling at the scene they had just made. Yakko grins. He toon speeds over to the cat and is right in her face with a jolly smile.
"Oh!" Melody squeaks.
"Helloooo Melody!" Yakko shouts and jumps into the cat's arms. He wiggles his brows. "What a pleasure to finally meet you!"
Wakko joins his brother, jumping into the arms of Melody. "Aren't you happy to see us?"
"Why wouldn't she be?" Dot said, appearing from behind Melody, happily hanging off her back. "We're great people to meet!"
"Why I-" Melody shook her head from the sudden surprise of all of this. "Did you all come to see me?"
"Of course!" The Warners say with big smiles.
Melody laughs, dropping the brothers to clap her hands together. "Why, I'm so delighted! The Warner Brothers here to see me, and come by in a drill no doubt."
"It's no trouble." Yakko said, getting to his feet. He bows. "Allow us to introduce ourselves."
Melody giggles as the three Warners line up. The brothers bow before her.
"We're the Warner brothers!" Yakko and Wakko said together.
"And the Warner sister!" Dot curtsies.
"I'm Yakko!" Yakko says.
"I'm Wakko!" Wakko says.
"And I'm Dot." Dot winks. "Call me Dottie and ya die."
"And your name, m'lady?" Yakko asks, taking Melody's hand and kissing it.
Melody hugs her arms, smiling warmly. "I'm Melody Cattington."
Dot elbows her older brother and whispers. "We already knew that."
"Just covering all the bases, sister sib." Yakko whispers back with a wink and looks to the feline. "We saw your segment and just had to come and see you for ourselves."
"You were gonna be our co-star?" Wakko says curiously.
Melody nods. "Yes, but unfortunately I never got to."
"And never had the chance to meet little old us." Yakko says gesturing to himself and his siblings. "A shame really. I think we would've really hit it off back then."
"You honestly think so?" Melody asks.
"Oh but of course!" Yakko smiles. He draws Melody close to him. "In fact we should make up for lost time!"
"We should?" Melody asks.
"Absolutely!" Yakko says, nose to nose with Melody. He grins. "What do you say?"
"Well I-" Melody was cut off from the ringing of her phone. "Oh excuse me."
Yakko backs off when Melody reaches for her phone and answers it. Dot grabs her brother's hand and pulls him next to her and Wakko.
"What is it, Dot?" Yakko asks.
"We are all going to hang out with Melody right?" Dot says. "This won't become some hard boiled scheme for you to date our co-star right?"
"Wait, can we date her?" Wakko asks, confused.
"Why Dot," Yakko exclaims. "You think I would do that to you two?"
Wakko and Dot make eye contact, then they nod.
Yakko dramatically swoons, arm over his eyes. "I'm hurt! Just hurt!" He then peeks at them. "You don't think she's caught on yet, do you?"
"No." The siblings say.
"Excellent!" Yakko grin, straightening up.
"NO!"
The sudden cry made all three Warners look at the co-star. She had their back to them and was trembling on the spot. Judging by the way her fist was clenched, this was from pure rage. The Warners look at one another and shrug. Yakko tip toes over to Melody.
"You can say whatever you want." Yakko heard Melody hiss into her phone. "But you keep them out of this!"
Yakko raised a brow, but not wanting to eavesdrop, he tapped her shoulder. Melody gasps and looks over her shoulder. Yakko notices right away the wide eyes on the feline. She looked scared.
"Sorry to disrupt, but ehh are you okay?" Yakko asks, concerned.
Melody clears her throat, covering the phone with her hand. She gives him a small smile. "I'm okay, I just need one more minute."
Yakko nods. He had questions now, but he kept his lips shut. Much harder than he thought it would be. He turns to leave, but a hand on his shoulder stops him.
"Actually." Melody says. Yakko turns back to her. "Can we reschedule our outing? I'm going to be busy today. I'm sorry to disappoint you."
Yakko shakes his head. "It's no trouble, really." He says, grabbing her hand with a smile. Seeing her wide eyes soften with happiness made him grin. "We can reschedule. How about tomorrow?"
Melody bit her lip. "The day after?"
Yakko raised a brow, but his smile never left. "It's a date!"
Melody giggles and Yakko lets her go. He turns to his siblings. "Come on siblings, we have the whole day ahead of us!"
They run off and exit the building, leaving Melody where she stood. She swallows and returns to the phone.
"I'll talk to him, Mr. Memlo." Melody says with a sigh. "But this is the last time I'll ever do this."
"You've said that before Cattington." Memlo says through the phone.
Melody bites her lip, looking the way where the Warners left. "I must ask…those Warner Brothers. They know nothing, right?"
"Of course. Why?"
"No reason." Melody says firmly. Her tail twitches. "You have yourself a deal, Mr. Memlo."
Melody closes her eyes, taking a deep breath in. She opens them.
"I'll be there tomorrow afternoon."
