Some days, trying to deal with a child and run a pet shop certainly tested D's patience. Other days it seemed even worse–attempting to manage a boy, a shop, and a bothersome detective put a very real dent in D's usually infinite patience.

Then there were moments where D couldn't ask for anything less than this tiny, dysfunctional family. Lately, he'd discovered he enjoyed reading to Chris while watching Leon read his paper across from them until Chris fell asleep and Leon carried him off to bed.

The quiet evenings with his humans made the hectic days easier to bear.
