A Bird Myth

One day Sun Shang Xiang, the goddess of war, over heard Guan Yu, the god of war, saying that he was the greatest fighter in the land. Sun Shang Xiang disagreed. She walked up to Guan Yu and said "So you think that you're the best?"

"Of course I am, after all I am the god of war." He replied.

"Well did you know that I am the goddess of war?" she asked.

"Really? So…?" He said.

"So, I want to challenge you if you think that you're the best." She told him.

"Fine then. I accept your challenge." Guan Yu said. "That will surely decide who's better." Sun Shang Xiang left and went to find her top general and also her strategist.

"Bird (A/N: Yes, her general is called Bird!), there you are. We are going to war against Guan Yu, the so called god of war." Sun Shang Xiang explained. "I would like you to devise a strategy for the up coming battle."

"I will begin right away." He assured her.

"Good, do not fail me. If you do there will be great consequences." She said darkly. Sun Shang Xiang left Bird to get to work. She told all of her officers and begun to prepare for battle. The next day Bird presented his strategy to Sun Shang Xiang and she strongly agreed. Sun Shang Xiang's army began to march towards Guan Yu's. Guan Yu had also prepared and was marching towards Sun Shang Xiang. The two armies met at Chang An. The soldiers engaged in battle.

"To prove ourselves worthy!" Sun Shang Xiang cried.

"To show who the better leader is!" Guan Yu cried. The fight lasted for hours…

"We're being pushed back!" a soldier informed Sun Shang Xiang.

"WHAT!" she shouted.

"They are killing us fast! If we don't pull back then…" he cut off.

"Give the order to retreat and tell Bird to come straight to me." She ordered. Sun Shang Xiang's army pulled back. She had been beaten, she couldn't win and she had lost to Guan Yu… She could hear his voice in the distance… "I won; the god beat the goddess…"

Once they had returned back to their home in Luo Yang she met with Bird. Bird had a bad feeling about this. It was because of him that they had lost…

"Bird! What happened, why did we lose? Explain." Sun Shang Xiang ordered.

"Well they were too strong. I hadn't thought of their strength…" he said.

"Well you knew that there would be great consequences if we lost." Sun Shang Xiang said.

"I know, and I shall face the consequences." Bird said bravely. Sun Shang Xiang gathered her army and spoke to them. "We have lost to Guan Yu; I have warned you that you would have to face the consequences if we lost." Sun Shang Xiang said. Through the army ran fear. The soldiers felt their skin growing feathers and their arms turning into wings. They were slowly shrinking into small creatures. They grew beaks and their eyes turned beady. Their feet grew three long claws and their legs thinned. Soon enough they were birds.

"You creatures will be named birds after the strategist Bird, you can thank him for this and Bird shall be the god of the birds." She informed her new army of birds. The birds flew away; Sun Shang Xiang would then find a new army.

One day a sorceress appeared before Sun Shang Xiang.

"Who are you?" asked Sun Shang Xiang.

"I am Himiko, the sorceress," she said. "I have come to deliver a prophecy to you."

"Tell me it then." Sun Shang Xiang said.

"You have turned your army into birds, they are not happy. One day, in the future they shall get their revenge. They will give a terrible disease, known as Bird Flu to humans." She explained. Sun Shang Xiang was annoyed. But before she had time to ask anything Himiko had disappeared.

To this day we still have birds. And that is how birds were created (And also why Bird Flu is in some countries).
